vice presidential candidate mike pence slid off the runway. happened about an hour ago, it was pouring rain at the time. the plane came to a stop at the fence. cnn producer elizabeth handiers tweeted this video showing how ripped up it is. in a tweet just minutes ago, pence said thankful everyone on the plane is safe grateful for our first responders and concern and prayers of many. back on the trail tomorrow. in the east bay, people in the normally quiet city are on edge after a string of home robberies. some were home invasions. eric we spoke with one of the victims. >> i did. police say some of the information about these has been a bit misleading.

they say many happened on the city's periphery, some may be gang related and three, officers pulling down overtime looking for leads. you're seeing more signs where people are having home security systems installed or putting in their own surveillance cameras like this one at josie's home. josie doesn't want her face shown. >> i said what do you want? he said i rang the wrong bell. >> neighbors say the man jumped into a car and drove off. they and police believe the vehicle and men are linked to a rash of robberys. >> we're doing everything to catch the people responsible. >> there have been 14 robberies in piedmont this year. often, they involve guns. three were home invasions. the chief says they've solved one of the home invasion robberys. >> just a great arrest by one

rain drops dot the lens of our camera and we're going to -- before we get to that let's go to new york. we have breaking news. a plane carrying donald trump's running mate mike pence slid off the runway when it landed. no one was hurt you can see pence walking off the plane. that is in queens la guardia airport. 37 people on board, two officials from the port authority told abc news the plane would have slid onto the highway if the crushed conclean barrier had not been there. but add that is where why it's there. >> take a look at the rain outside. from a storm going to bring heavy and steady rain to the bay area. >> abc7 news was downtown earlier today. north bay gets the most rain when storms come through.
