ask. >> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, october 30th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, carolyn. good morning to you. hi, everyone. rain is on the way. we have a 1 on the storm impact scale this morning. rain and gusty winds will bring down some pretty good downpours and even a chance of thunderstorms. you see the rain continues to fill in to the north bay. just around sonoma county we are getting wet. this is is a quick mover so you see all the cloudiness offshore. the front pushes through. then we will see gusty winds behind it, scattered showers. it's cooler. upper 50s to 60 in oakland. look at the wind blowing from

the sutro tower camera. in the 50s this morning with rain and wind developing through the 9:00 hour. then we will see scattered showers afternoon time. still showers throughout the forecast today and into halloween. i'll time it out for you coming up. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. one city is training its residents to prevent flooding by taking matters into their own hands. the san francisco public utilities commission is teaching neighbors safe techniques in their adopt a drain program. 500 storm drains in the city have been adopted so far. the people help sweep and rake away debris to keep the drains flowing smoothly. >> we have 2800 storm drains and that's a lot to maintain so we are asking for the public's help. >> it kind of creeps up to the front yard so i'm a natural

happening today, a race to honor kate steinle, the woman killed last year on the embarcadero. downtown will host their first-ever 5k race to honor her. proceeds from the run will be donated to students rising above and the challenged athletes foundation. it all starts at 8:30 this morning on main street. abc7 news has learned that four richmond police officers will be fired for a sex scandal. jasmine abusilan claims she had under age sex with law enforcement leading to an internal investigation in richmond involving 11 officers. original recommendation was to fire just one. now the mayor and the police chief both confirm the city

manager has decided to fire three more officers and reprimand five others. the remaining two officers left their jobs for unrelated reasons. tomorrow the oakland police department the will welcome their newest class of recruits, but with recent sex scandals and arrests there, the group will be smaller than previous academies. according to our media partner, the department is taking time to change how they hire and train officers. in the last year many have been arrested ford a variety of crimes. they are promising to investigate the department's hiring process. tonight on abc7 news at 11:00 p.m., jasmine abusilan's case has rocked local law enforcement agencies. she may not be the only one. we spent a friday night on international avenue in oakland talking to some identified

prostitutes saying having sex for money with cops is nothing new in the bay area. a boy skateboarding was hit by an s.u.v. it happened at 22nd avenue and loyola street in the sunset district. the 14-year-old was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. the driver of the s.u.v. stayed and cooperated with authorities. now to the race for the white house a new poll shows a slim point separating hillary clinton and donald trump. the abc washington post poll clinton has a 1-point lead over trump on, 46 to 45%. clinton is demanding the fbi release newly discovered e-mails that may or may not be connected to a home server investigation. she took the stage with singer-actress jennifer lopez in miami last night urging people

to vote. as for the e-mails, clinton said it was strange timing to bring new life to the controversy days before the election. >> voters deserve to get full and complete facts. so we've called on director comey to explain everything right away, put it all out on the table. >> the l.a. times reports the e-mails were not sent to clinton or even sent from clinton. they involve one of her top aids and appear to be more about what agents already know. four democratic senators, including dianne feinstein, are calling on the fbi to release all of its information. donald trump says it's the biggest political scandal since watergate. >> very, very serious things must be happening and must have been found. very, very serious things. >> and last night in phoenix trump continued to push the idea that the election is rigged and

the message is coming across. one of his supporters, this lady in minnesota, was arrest thed for voting twice. she told a radio station she did it because the polls are rigged. donald trump says he gives a lot of money to charity, but a new report finds he often claimed other people's giving as his own or took credit for donations he has not given. the washington post called 420 it charities connected to trump going back to 2008. they found he gave to just one of them. the report says he crashed an a.i.d.s. benefit back in '96 and sat next to major donors when he had not given any money at the time. 70% they found donations going back to the 1980's went to his own trump foundation. he issued a statement saying trump personally donated tens of millions of dollars to charitable causes but there's no

way to know exactly how much he has given without the releasing his tax returns. tim kaine will respond to the fbi examining new messages related to the clinton foundation. and they will weigh in on the state of the race. you can watch the full interviews on "this week" with george stephanopoulos at 8:00 this morning right here at abc7. and here in the bay area early vogting centers have been extremely cities. abc7 news was at the county recorder's office in redwood city yesterday where we saw a steady flow of voters. this is one of three early voting centers in that county. people with mail-in ballots can drop them off at a special ballot box. the biggest rain for voting now rather than november 8th, it's more convenient. >> who knows what's going to happen on that tuesday.

thanks for joining us. this is a look at the live doppler 7. green represents rain. lisa will be along shortly with a full accuweather forecast. a south bay haunted house, already hit hard by thieves, was almost hit again. we first told you about bernell scream in san jose on friday. it's a family-run haunted house that increased security after a break-in on wednesday. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the story. >> this is the place to come in south san jose to get your scream on. the bernnel haunted house is the brainchild of these guys. they invested their life savings, $100,000, into this scary halloween haunt but the

bad luck keeps coming. >> there are clipped location on the side and they came in and took all of it off. >> thieves broke in and stole enterers, ruined the sound system and is ruined property. they came back but security guards scared them away. >> we have thousands of dollars in the show and it's sad somebody is coming to take that from us. we are scared since there had a second be attempt. hopefully there won't be a third. >> they are upping security, but things still aren't looking good. ticket sales were already down and now recovering financially after the burglary may be too much. the family isn't sure if they can afford to do it again next year. >> how sad. you know, they are doing it for the kids, and it's fun. there's just not very many haunt end houses around. >> it's really disappointing. it's unfortunate. >> the goat fund me page is here to help and the community is also rallying. > the i have two, four, six, eight, nine.

this year. haunted mine is open again tomorrow night. we think of candy and trick-or-treating when we talk about halloween. but for some east bay kids the holidays is all about staying fit and healthy. abc7 news was in berkeley for the pumpkin patch dash. kids in pre-k through eighth grade raced around the middle school track yesterday to see who is the fastest. organizers say the run is about celebrating the season and having fun. >> every single child that participants gets a participation certificate so known walks away empty-handed. they also get a t-shirt and a goodie bag. first, second, third-place winner in each heat win a metal. >> the city created the pumpkin patch dash to give younger kids the chance to run a track race

happening today, levi stadium is hosting their third annual 49ers rush with a 4.9k run and challenge course. it gives kids a chance to do the challenges nfl players do every week. it included hundreds of stairs, ramp, tires and sprints. they want to encourage people to get in shape. tere's also a junior rush for kids. it starts at 8:00 this morning at levi stadium. >> now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. >> good morning, everybody. >> we are looking at rain just knocking on the door here. here's live doneler 7. it's beginning to fill in the last couple of hours. light rain up to the northbound bay. and this system will be affecting us throughout the morning and early afternoon hours. so we put it in motion and you will notice that it continues to push up to the north, but it will march across the bay. it is associated with a pretty vigorous area of low pressure

that could trigger an afternoon thunderstorm here. we get into the cold sector. so temperatures are cooler. a live look outside. brief, gusty winds at times. san jose at 59. looks calm here from our roof camera with numbers ranging from the mid-50s in napa, 58 livermore. concord is at 55 degrees. so the dewpoints have dropped and you are waking up to cooler conditions. anywhere from a degree to about 9 degrees cooler all around the bay. we are getting back to where we should be. yesterday we set a minimum low record for san francisco. the overnight low is 60. that's how mild it has been. so a look at the gusty winds from novato to half moon bay. nothing going on yet, but the upper elevations, check it out. winds gusting to 20 miles an hour. as we get in through the early morning hours, the next two hours, the winds could gust

anywhere from 20 to 40 miles an hour. so this is a quick mover. rain will fill in quickly and we will look for the wind to accompany it. by noontime most of it has pushed through except for the south bay. then scattered showers throughout the afternoon. another system on it's heels. hour by hour as we go to about 8:00 in the morning you see a piece of rain shower activity across the bay. but here's the line of showers. and the heavy rain, brief heavy rain pushes through. then by the afternoon we are into the showers. and with that we could even see a thunderstorm. here we are tonight. still showery out there. we aren't out of the woods yet. and another impulse comes through nor halloween. winter weather advisory along with a warning for the west slopes and lake tahoe area. they scaled back on the snowfall amount. 18 inches above 7,000 feet. at lake level and the resorts, just a couple inches there. looking at halloween, it's dry to start out. by 3:00 in the afternoon, you are getting the kids ready, getting the candy out, and we will see the showers right on through the evening hours.

we will add up the two systems. the first one today anywhere from a tenth to a half-inch. and then we will add in halloween's. and san francisco could see over an in. but look at mountain view and san jose. just barely a quarter inch. the rest of the day today will feature the cloudy skies, scattered showers. temperatures mainly in the low to mid-60s. so this is the afternoon after we get through the brief heavy downpours, the gusty winds. accuweather seven-day forecast, 1 on the storm impact scale today with the rain and wind affecting us throughout the first half of the day, the morning hours. then the rain, another little piece of energy just in time for the ghosts and goblins. then question clear it up and see more typical weather. >> put some plastic over your costumes tomorrow night. >> too bad, i know. >> thanks, lisa. just ahead, smashing pumpkins

showing us where the vinyl siding began buckling on her belmont home. >> it was kind of poking out like an eyelid. >> she contacted home depot, where she bought the siding. >> i heard nothing from home depot. no one called me. >> patricia forgot about it until she said the problem got worse. >> it was getting definitely worse. and the insulation, the styrofoam was poking out. >> these pictures show the loose planks curling out from the wall. >> i kept calling home depot and they said they are still trying to find the papers. >> home depot said they had no record she and her husband bought the siding back in 2005 so patricia brought her contract to the store along with the lifetime warranty and photos of the damage. >> never heard a word so i called back. >> they sent an inspect store, but the inspector denied her claim. >> they said it was painted. and i said no, it wasn't. >> patricia contacted "7 on your side." we asked home depot about her

claim. the company sent us this photo of the siding, which seems to indicate it was painted. now, that is important because paint on the siding voids that lifetime warranty. however, home depot tells us it had already decided to overlook the paint job and honor the warranty, telling us although we no longer sell this product and the warranty was void, we thought it was best to simply replace ms. laura chella's siding in this situation, and it did. just in time to beat the rain. >> so "7 on your side" is truly, did it has been a blessing to me. and i'm sure, from what i hear, to a lot of others. >> home depot said it already decided to honor that warranty right after the inspection but apologized for delayed response. our thanks to home depot for stepping up. i'm michael finney, "7 on your side." >> three astronauts are safely back on earth after nearly four

months in space. napa native kate rubins along with russian and japanese astronauts descended from the space station yesterday afternoon. their vessel reached 514 miles an hour before parachutes and rockets slowed them down. rubins is a stanford grad who game the first person of to sequence dna in space. everyone is getting in the halloween spirit this weekend, including elephants at the oregon zoo. young lilly and her family had fun smashes these 1,000 pounds pumpkins. look at lilly getting into it there rolling around in the gourd's mushy remains. companies like mars and necessarily have agreed not to use palm oil which is harvested in biologically diverse areas. still to come on abc7 mornings, what neighbors say they saw and

new this is abc7 mornings. >> welcome back. we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, carolyn. we bring in the storm impact scale. this is a 1, which will bring some brief, heavy downpours with gusty winds throughout the morning hours. just a couple hours away. we could even see a thunderstorm as it pushes through. the winds could gust to about 4. so here's a look at live doppler 7. you can see it is off the northern california coast. in fact, it's raining around crescent city. but it's about 40 to 50 miles from san francisco, and we will

be looking at the rain and wind right on through the early morning hours. so it's a pretty decent system. we will see some moderate rain. temperatures are in the low 50s from los gatos to the upper 50s in fremont and the city. you see the gusty winds here. we will look for a rainy and windy morning with scattered rain showers throughout the afternoon. showers will be with us, in fact, they will be more isolated throughout the evening. then a system behind it will add to the totals for the trick-or-treaters tomorrow. we will time it out in a couple minutes. carolyn. >> all right, lisa. recent rain caused flooding in parts of central california. the first big rainstorm of the evening hit modesto friday. they said during a three hour period the city received about 1.2 inches of rain, which was just too much for the drains. several streets and parking lots were flooded >> it really overwhelmed the

drainage infrastructure. there's fall, there's leaves and debris in the streets and it can puck up the trains, it's caused a real problem. >> crews were forced to close at least one street in downtown modesto yesterday where water rose to nearly three feet. neighbors of a prominent bay area attorney murdered on the front porch of his el~cerrito home are talking about when they herbed the fatal gunshots he returned home from a social engagement just before 9:00. abc7 news reporter serge quinn has the details. >> a bouquet of flowers sits near the front door of james gill land's he will cerrito home. many are trying to understand why the celebrated attorney was so brutally killed on his porch. down the hill, the residents who share a back fence, say they are still shocked about what happened. >> we heard at first two shots and then three.

tips or information to find anyone connected to this crime. sergio quintana, abc7 news. >> the sheriff of the county said he was supposed to take the call that killed one. his deputies. deputy jack hopkins was shot to death earlier this month, responding to a disturbance that happened in elturis near the oregon border. deputy hopkins was working in the courthouse when he volunteered to take the call. the sheriff said he went back to work the next day, but it's been tough without one of his best deputies. >> how are you doing? >> that's a good question. i'm hanging in there. i'm struggling through this. got a lot of people that really care. >> the sheriff arrested the suspect after a shotout. deputy hopkins is just the

second county law enforcement officer there to die in the line of duty since 1901. the. 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick hosted a camp for bay area youth to expand his focus on social and racial injusted. about 100 kids attended. they learned about their rights with the police and understanding their community. kaepernick said the goal of the cam subpoena to empower young people and to give them resource toss deal with difficult issues. he says he appreciates the support he's received since announcing his protest of the national anthem. >> par of the system is you will have the backlash trying to fight for people. that was something i was fully prepared for, fully aware of. so when those things came, it was expected. it wasn't an issue for me. the support is really what, you

know, to me was huge. and really gave me excitement, gave me life as far as people are seeing this the same way i am and now we can help create change. kaepernick said he does not feel any extra pressure to perform well on the field because football is his job and is separate from his personal beliefs an extraordinary moment in san francisco yesterday as veterans from the vietnam war met with a former opponent and shook be hands in peace. abc7 news was at the fairmont hotel for a special celebration of continued peace. this man is a veteran who fought in the battlefield during the vietnam war. he's now a top member of the vietnamese government. u.s. secretary john kerry helped set up the meeting. it's part a of a program to mend

bay area coast, about 40 to 50 miles. around the a rain shower activity in an area of low pressure. this will push in as well, bringing this the chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. a live look outside. 60 in san francisco. 59 half moon bay and san jose. from our roof camera, numbers are cooler in the north bay. 54 napa. 58 in livermore. so far this morning anywhere from a degree to almost ten degrees cooler. dewpoints are lowering as the system gets closer and the winds have been gusting to 20, 25 miles an hour along the coast. higher elevations in excess of 30 miles an hour. we are looking at not only the breezy conditions here from the sutro tower camera, but still good visibility in the city. that will change. with the rain developing this morning, the winds pick up. this will take us right on through noontime for most of us. but throughout the south bay it's going tooling area little longer. then question will see the scattered showers. doesn't mean the rainfall amounts will be that impressive
