was a clayton police officer's vehicle. let us show you the map now. the man was found dead on kirker pass road near kirkwood road in concord. vic lee is live at the concord police station and you just smoke with concord police? >> reporter: well, kiss trend, concord police just held a rally and let's go to sky 7 when they talk about what happened early this morning. they responded to kicker pass road and kirkwood drive after a driver called 911 to say he hit something in the road. the body of a man on the road had injuries that suggested he was hit by a vehicle. fast forward to the concord corporation yard. you'll see the civilian's van which lass significant damage to

the hood and a clayton police officer who also drove that car will the hit the man and here's what most likely happened. >> at this early stage of the investigation it appears a male was walking outside kirker pass road and was struck by a civilian driver who then called chp via 911 to report the collision. as that was coming no the dispatch center, a clayton officer was heading into this area and spoke of the same maem lying in the roadway. >> reporter: cooperating with the investigation, of course, the civilian, we're told the driver of the van was -- was administered a blood test to see if he had any alcohol or drugs. presumably the same test is being given to a police officer but they would not say. all they could day is that they are protocol which is involves a

police officer and a. >> that's the very latest. back to you. >> fremont police have arrested five suspects accuses of several robberies at the b.a.r.t. station. a 20-year-old man and 18-year-old man both from fremont would point handguns from their victims and demand cash. police heightened patrols and spotted the two and linked evidence that connected them to all five robberies, they say. a shooting across the street from a san francisco police station left a man injured. it happened on fillmore street and the victim is recovered. police have not made anywhere arrests. two investigations are under way and up by muni and other by the sfpd after a confrontation with

take a look at the intense flames that lit up the dark early morning in oakland. amazing fire. the fire destroyed a large building under construction and it broke out around 5:00 a.m. and spread quickly. firefighters are still monitoring that scene for hot spots. of course there will be in a fire that size. this is all happening at actor place and lester avenue. laura anthony is there live with the latest information. laura? >> reporter: hi, dan. let's show you what this looks like right now behind me. this is all that remains of this building. as you can see, pretty much a total loss. oakland fifthsers are here on the scene and will be here through the night making sure this fire does not flare up again. the atf is helping with the investigation and in a case like this it's a fire so big, more than who years, and in a building still under construction. >> it was pretty terrifying. >> reporter: mike eckstein lives right next to the unfinished apartment building that went up

in flames early this morning. >> i heard some kind of loud explosion and i looked out my front window and i could see every house on the street was illuminated from the flames. another neighbor shot this video and says she first saw the fire from her apartment window and then ran when things got too high. >> i was in disbelief. is that real, a real snir and it was huge >> reporter: security guard at the construction site and his girlfriend were inside when the fire started and her car was impaled by falling debris. it went to five alarms and took 100 firefighters to extinguish the flames and protect the many surrounding homes. >> put the right diameter fire hose to put the right amount of water. >> worst fears were true.

new research suggests oil drilling may have trigger a devastating earthquake decades ago. scientists combed through records and examined several quakes in the 1930s that were potentially caused by drilling including the 1933 magnitude 6.4 jolt centered in long beach that. quake killed more than 100 people and caused more than $50 million in damage. if confirmed, it would be the first time oil operations have been linked to a deadly crake in the united states. nasa says its new system to track asteroids is showing some promise. the computer program named stout is being tested at the jet propulsion lab in pasadena and it's successfully tracked an asteroid that zoomed past the earth at a distance of just over 300,000 miles.

nasa officials say by spotting these kinds of threats earl el they hope some day they will have enough time to stop them and prevent catastrophic damage to our planet. >> the result of the new study are being called the strongest evidence yet of a link between bedtime use of electronic devices and sleepy kids. researchers reviewed 20 previous studies involving children and teens and found those with access to tablets at night don't get enough sleep and are sleepier during the day and whether or not they used the devices. researchers found that two-thirds of the teen leave a device on while sleeping in bad at night. >> a new study says people who think they have a lot of friends tend to live longer. 12 million facebook profiles were examined and they found the death rate was lower among the users who had a higher number of accepted friendship requests. the association between health and active social life had appeared in a number of studies over the last few decades.
