this time two murdered in the line of duty. >> possible rifle rounds. there is an officer down. >> reporter: this morning, a statewide manhunt under way for this man, 46-year-old michael green, accused of executing two officers killed in cold blood. >> black male, orange shorts, was in the vehicle got out to make the shots and then jumped back in the vehicle and traveling eastbound. >> there is somebody out there shooting police officers. we hope we find him before anybody else gets hurt. >> reporter: according to police the ambush-style attacks occurred about 20 minute as part beginning at 1:06 a.m. the first officer shot sitting in his car on patrol alone. >> we have another officer hit over there. >> reporter: the second officer killed while responding. he was also found shot in his car. these shootings come as officers killed by guns in the line of duty is up dramatically this year by 48%. des moines police say, if you see green, do not approach. dial 911. robin? >> incredibly tragic. all right, pierre, thank you. now to the race for the white house just six days to go, and hillary clinton is calling

[ crowd chanting "usa" ] >> reporter: staying on message over those e-mails. and telling early voters in some states they can still change their vote. >> this is a message for any democratic voter who have already cast their ballots for hillary clinton, and who are having a bad case of buyer's remorse. wisconsin is one of several states where you can change your early ballot, if you think you

have made a mistake. a lot of stuff has come out since you voted. >> reporter: and there are actually a handful of states where you can change your vote after the fact. wisconsin, pennsylvania and michigan among them. the deadline in minnesota has already passed, but it is hard to see how this is a big impact. george, nearly 28 million people have already cast their ballots in this race. >> yeah, we're heading up to 40% of the vote. jon karl, matt dowd join us now. makes a lot of sense for hillary clinton to be in florida, and carpet bomb florida because if they wins there -- >> it's over. >> but we're also seeing both campaigns branch out to these blue states in the upper midwest. >> you see real nervousness on the part of the clinton team on states that they thought were solidly in their camp. hillary clinton is going to be in the state of michigan the friday before the election. in michigan, this is a state that they thought they had wrapped up a long time ago, priorities usa which is the hillary clinton super pac is now advertising in michigan, in

wisconsin, they're back in colorado which is a state that they had pulled out of weeks ago and in pennsylvania. so they are concerned. >> putting up that fire wall. >> okay, matt, we have less than a week to go but what can we expect from both of these camps in the final days? >> wyep. well, in honor of game seven of the world series, baseball. so i think what happened in the last week is that donald trump put a few runs on the board in the eighth inning and cut hillary's lead from five to about three, so we're headed into the ninth inning now, and hillary got out of it without giving up the total lead. it is by two or three-point hillary advantage and she has still a frayed wall but wall in the electoral college, so ninth inning, and she is still slightly ahead, but anything could happen. >> should have brought andrew miller in. >> she made a few errors. >> but in the ninth inning can anything be done to sway voters at this point? >> well, it's interesting. i think because we just talked about early votes. there's already almost 30

million votes cast, and those are in the bank. it's like runs she has already scored at this point. you have to prevent error, not commit errors in the final inning and not give up the long ball. i think that's what each side has to do. donald trump still has to put some singles and doubles in to score some runs in this, but just not commit errors. >> jon karl, one thing that hillary clinton has had to give up, she was looking at when those polls were wide, she was hoping to end on a real positive note, not taking that tact right now. >> not at all. if you look at why she's closing out alicia machado, going after donald trump on the miss universe case, and look it her closing advertising. it's a combination of he is somebody who is sexually harassing women, and who will blow up the world in a nuclear holocaust. it is a very negative taking the low road for both sides. this campaign is ending on the lowest note that i've ever seen. >> and it's going to end with the two candidates ending with historic unfavorable ratings in this. it's like the boston red sox playing the new york yankees when the fans love them, but most of america doesn't like

them and that's how this is ending. >> you know your baseball, huh? >> we can go anywhere. we can do hockey, football. >> okay, thank you both. just six days away from the election our full live coverage starts tuesday night at 7:00 eastern. i will be anchoring with our entire political team here on abc. >> going to be a long, long night. now to that deadly explosion at a major gas pipeline in alabama. fears are growing that the blast could send prices skyrocketing at the pump as we head into the thanksgiving busy travel season. abc's phillip mena is in alabama, and the ripple effects being felt all around the country. good morning, phillip. >> reporter: hi, robin, good morning. yeah, drivers in this region could start seeing those ripple effects in the next day or two. i spoke with some gas station managers around here who say that customers are already bracing themselves for a shortage. they are hitting the pumps to top off tanks before prices go up. the smoke from that deadly alabama pipeline explosion could be seen for miles. this morning, concerns the impact from it will be felt by millions.

drivers looking to fill their tanks may soon be facing a price hike in the wake of the blast. >> this situation if not immediately alleviated could pose a real risk for gas price increases going into thanksgiving. >> reporter: the severed pipeline stretches from houston, texas, to new jersey. supplying gasoline to about 50 million people in 13 states, that's nearly half of the region's fuel. news of the explosion and subsequent shutdown triggering a state of emergency in alabama. >> it affects not only alabama but states all up and down the eastern seaboard. >> reporter: gas futures skyrocketing as much as 15% tuesday before easing off. just two months ago, a leak on that same pipeline led to days of dry prumps and price hikes in half a dozen states. 17 cents in tennessee and 28-sent hikes in georgia and the fear is this shutdown could be even worse. just how long and how severe

the shortage is, well, that depends on how quickly they can repair that pipeline. officials are hoping it'll be done by saturday but, george, that's no sure thing. >> not at all. okay, phillip. thanks very much. the latest now on bill cosby heading back to court today as he tries to convince a judge to throw out those sexual assault charges, prevent his accusers from testifying. abc's linsey davis is here with more on the pretrial hearing. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, george. the biggest item on the docket of this now day two, is if testimony from 13 other accusers will be permitted in the trial. pennsylvania law only allows such testimony if it demonstrates a pattern of behavior, but the defense says the testimony is old and irrelevant. another face-off this morning for the second day in a row as bill cosby heads back to court where his lawyers are fighting to keep potentially damning evidence out of his trial. the current case stems from an alleged assault back in 2004 with former temple university employee, andrea constand. prosecutors argue testimony from

13 of his more than 50 accusers is relevant to this case. the prosecution says the other women should be allowed to testify to show cosby had a signature pattern of behavior that spanned decades where he allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted dozens of women. >> the prosecution must think that this is important to their case, or they wouldn't have filed the prosecution motion seeking to have 13 potential witnesses testify. >> reporter: but cosby's lawyers argue the women's memories are tainted by time and prejudiced by media coverage. >> here we are now 12 years later asked to defend a case where witnesses have died. memories have faded. >> reporter: cosby has pleaded not guilty, and his lawyers are not only calling for the judge to make the alleged victims take memory and competency tests, but want them to let go. >> what do you say to the people to the people who say, oh, come on.

we're talking about 60 people would make this up? >> we've seen it so many times in our criminal justice system where there are a multitude of accusers, and yet, it was determined that there was no case. >> reporter: the prosecution is also hoping to get cosby's 2005 deposition included in the trial where he answered questions in constand's civil suit after he was assured by the then district attorney that he would never be prosecuted. cosby and his legal team have always maintained his encounter with constand was consensual. george? >> okay, linsey, thanks. we have amy here knew with the rest of this morning's headli s headlines, starting with an earthquake in oklahoma? >> parts of oklahoma were shaken by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake overnight not far from tulsa. this was the fifth quake to hit that state in one day and was felt as far away as kansas city. recent quake activity raised concerns about fracking and the disposal of waste water from energy production. there are new details now in the mystery surrounding malaysia

airlines flight 370. investigators now believe no one was controlling that plane when it plunged into the indian ocean in 2014. they believe it ran out of fuel and spiraled into the water killing all 239 people on board. the circumstances and the location of that plane, though, remain a mystery. syrian dictator, bashar al assad, said he has no regreatre about the civil war in his country, blamed for 500,000 deaths. in a rare interview, he told reporters the social fabric of syria is better now. he blames terrorists and the u.s. government for the bloodshed and says he plans to stay in office until 2021. well, pope francis is making it clear there will never be women priests in the catholic church. while flying home from sweden the pope reaffirmed the position laid out by john paul ii who said ordaining women was not possible because jesus chose only men as his apostles. and finally, well, sometimes they are changing. this thanksgiving for the first time, you'll be able to do more than just call the butterball hot line for tips. you'll be able to text your question, as well.

o'leary joins us now and, kevin, so tell us what's going on here. >> it's chaos out there. markets like certainty. your 401(k) likes certainty. people like to know what's going to happen. only ten days ago it looked like a shoo-in for clinton. that's no longer the case. today, it's a complete unknown, and the fear index, just moments ago, the national federation of independent business put it out there. it's the highest ever. total chaos. that's why the markets are going all over the place. >> well, speaking of certainty in six days, we'll certainly have a new president. how do you think the markets will react to a president clinton or president trump? >> that's what the whole world is trying to figure out. we look it a trump, an outsider who never ran government but half the population thinks government isn't working anyways. very much like when reagan got in and said what is this cowboy actor doing in the white house. we'll have to wait and see what happens. on the clinton side, this incredible uncertainty. back in the '90s it was always special investigations and it was very, very challenging and

so for hillary, if any of these e-mails end up being bad news, the concern for investors is she'll be president, but she'll immediately be indicted, and then the worst case is, another impeachme impeachment, that's bad for markets, too. that's why it's so uncertain. both paths have a lot of chaos in them. >> yeah, but we will know by next week. yeah. all right. thanks, kevin. >> time will tell. >> that's true. >> thank you, kevin. let's move on to a new warning about energy drinks. a brand-new report reveals serious health issues that could come from drinking too many and dr. ashton joins us live. doctor, this comes from a guy who was drinking a few of these a day or so, and what happened? >> so we're talking about acute liver failure here, you guys. which is a big deal. really, really serious. this is a case report of a construction worker who was allegedly son coupling four or five energy drinks a day.

for a period of time of three weeks. and the theory is that the culprit in those energy drinks an ingredient called niacin, also known as vitamin b3 which is known to cause things like flushing, low blood pressure, stomach issues, liver damage, now here come the caveats. this gentleman did have hepatitis c pre-existing and the american beverage association really quick to point out this one case report does not show cause and effect. in my book, you have heard me say it before. moderation is key. these energy drinks are not meant to be drank like water. >> and how about being mixed with alcohol? there was another study that looked into that, jen. >> exactly. >> and this is out of purdue university, robin. this was a study done in mice because we can't do this type of study in human beings who are teenagers. but it looked at young mice combined energy drinks with alcohol, found that it produced structural and functional changes in the brain that may persist into adulthood greater than either of those things alone so we need more research. >> wow. >> but a reminder, these are not for kids or teens, and do not mix them with alcohol.

thought. well, i have that and have a doctor's appointment today. i've had narcolepsy since my early 20s. when i was diagnosed the first thing i knew was really wrong, excessive tiredness, and i was having sleep paralysis. i thought it was bad nightmares at first. i thought i couldn't -- then your whole body -- you can't move and your brain is going nuts. it's thinking, what is happening? is this a nightmare jo so i kept associating it with that, then i had the other narcoleptic things. i got diagnosed. >> but you're doing -- >> i'm doing much better. i still get it once in a while. now because i know what it is there is -- still frightening. >> people are waking up this morning and going, what are we talking about here? and it is about reducing your stress. we all need to do that. to be able to get some rest -- >> so many people when they heard we were doing this story said that happened to me. that happened to me, and while stress and lack of sleep are the main causes, things like narcolepsy can be there as well but there are things that we can do in terms of improving our sleep and reducing stress that can actually help. >> we have to have a shooting environment.

>> yeah, we talked about the importance of routine but there are things you can do to try to make your environment more soothing for you. >> such as? >> well, we know that one of the ways that our body tells itself it's time to go to sleep is there's a rise in a hormone called melatonin. but bright light and blue light can inhibit our body's release of that hormone, so there are things we can do. one is just dimming the lights but a couple of cool things. i've got these orange glasses and when i put those on, take a look, this is what it looks like, the environment changes. >> wow. >> okay, and what that does it allows her body to release more melatonin. so if you put those on for a couple of hours before bed, small studies show it may make you sleepier. on our electronic devices, you can hit something on the app of the devices called night shift, and it turns your screen from blues to oranges. other devices you can download that as well. these are little things that you can do that may help you get a better night's sleep. turning off your electronics an hour before bed is a good thing too. >> do you do things like that? >> i do.

well, the routine is supposed to be number one, which i'm not so great at, especially with our schedule, but i keep the phone away at night. a big one for me. >> and out of the room. >> out of the room. i can tell a big difference and out of the room and then what i also do is that calming, i've been using lavender, some of those things. >> i do that too. >> important. >> bless your heart. >> well -- >> funny when you do stories like that and we're talking and she comes out and goes, hey. >> 1 in 2,000 people have narcolepsy. if you have this get it checked out. >> if you're having a good night's sleep, and you are having this, don't ignore it. coming up, what's being called the anti-helicopter parenting style. ♪ anti-helicopter parenting style.

lanza, a silicon valley father of three boys who says this is the antidote to the modern problems of childhood. too many screens and lives overscheduled by extracurricular activities. >> we like to think of our yard and the streets around where we live as our playberhood. >> reporter: his idea to create a space where kids can play without many rules and feel empowered. radically unstructured play. >> we get to do whatever we want. >> reporter: lanza has installed in his yard all the things many parents avoid, a mini skate park, a trampoline, playhouse climbing structure, and kids love it. they come from all over the neighborhood with their parents' consent, of course. >> what he's countering is children don't get a lot of opportunity to try things for themselves, to take risks, to take on challenges and to decide what they want to do. >> reporter: as i watched these kids playing in the street, mostly making good choices, policing themselves, it reminds me of how we grew up.

[ applause ] >> this movie is a love story but it's all about brotherhood as well. how was the shooting with all these guys. >> it was great. we got down there and such an important story. i think everyone knew how lucky we were to be a part of this story and so everyone was just

on board straightaway and it's really, really true. the brotherhood we had on this. everyone came together and was really, really felt fortunate to be telling this story. it was all very organic and it's true. we saw each other a couple of weeks ago and it was like we hadn't left each other, as well. nice to be -- have that connection to some people now forever. >> you were telling me you were in new orleans for a premiere and drew brees' grandfather actually fought -- >> on hacksaw ridge. >> he was there 92 years old and ready to go. they were really moved by the movie but then afterward they were standing up out of their wheelchairs telling you how mean of a son of a gun they were back in the day. >> shows you did a phenomenal job. we all appreciate it. the movie is "hacksaw ridge" in select theaters opening nationwide on friday. make sure you check it out and coming up, performing live on "gma," dierks bentley. don't go anywhere.

i've never liked marijuana. but i'm voting yes on prop 64 to legalize marijuana for adults 21 and over. it has important safeguards for families, like strict product labeling and child-proof packaging of all marijuana products. and banning edibles that would appeal to a child. raising a teenager, that regulated system makes a lot more sense than what we have now. plus, 64 taxes marijuana to fund priorities like after-school programs. personally, marijuana's not for me. but my mind's made up. i'm voting yes on 64.
