it's time to vote yes on proposition 55. get up and get going. >> this is abc 7 mornings. good morning, everyone. it is saturday, november 5th. here's lisa tracking the conditions where you live. >> hey, chris, good morning to you from the sutro tower camera, you can see some fog creating some problems around the coast. it is a chilly 49 degrees in mountain view. san jose, sfo, no delays, mostly sunny skies, low 40s, with 44 in the east bay. looking at the golden gate bridge, looks clear now, but increasing clouds in the north bay, fog along the coast, low 60s to 70s and we're tracking this, a weather system, a one on the storm impact scale.

that means a light system. i'll detail where the rain will fall and when in just a few minutes. >> lisa, thank you. east bay this morning, police are investigating a shooting that left ten people injured in downtown oakland. it happened around 12:15 outside the vinyl nightclub near 14th and broadway. police say as many as three gunmen were involved. media partner, east bay times reports the shooting was a result of the dispute at the club and that the victims ages range from 17 to 28 years old. police say several people were taken to the hospital. many are in stable condition. no arrests have been made. a man and a woman are under arrest in connection to the death of a woman who was found dead in a park on thursday. the body of 21-year-old karla ramona was found. >> reporter: friends and family gathered at her home all evening, a friend who used to

work with her at a local fast food restaurant, came to pay his respects. he says he also knows one of the suspects. >> i know the girl actually. she used to work with us at kfc. it shocks me because how can a coworker do that to another coworker. >> named laura rogers, although the d.a. has not released the name of the suspect, abc 7 has learned laura roger was booked on murder charges. karla's body was found around noon in oakland. investigators say karla had been badly beaten, stabbed and burned. her family has been distraught since she disappeared earlier this week. >> karla's sister says this has been awful for all of them, especially watching her parents in pain. she was in the sheriff's explorer program, and has known her for three years. >> it is difficult, probably one of the hardest things i've had

cornell bernard, abc 7 news. donald trump visits florida, north carolina, nevada and colorado today. and superstar lebron jame also appear at an event in cleveland for hillary clinton tomorrow. in las vegas, so many people wanted to vote last night, the county had to extend early voting hours. jorge silva tweeted these photos from a packed super market. he said it looked like that the entire night. there are reports that the fbi and homeland security are looking into threats of a possible al qaeda attack on the day before election day. the threat mentions new york, virginia, and texas, but doesn't give any specific information on the targets. the feds are also concerned about potential cyber attacks on election day that could take down the machines that have the results. we have a tool to help you prepare. click on the icon, "your vote

your voice." you'll get a comprehensive resources on the candidates and measures on your local ballot. 8:05 is our time, university of san francisco and former camp counselor has been arrested, accused of uploading child porn from his dorm room. he had 600 images and videos, many of them showing children as young as three yars old. he worked at camp winthra. abc 7 news was in oakland, as hundreds of people marched in solidarity with a protest in north dakota last night. that's where a $3.7 billion pipeline project is being built. members of the standing rock sioux nation, and protesters wanted to bring attention to it. >> this is a case of environmental racism. to the degree. people around the country are

posing this on all levels of society. >> this week, the president suggested rerouting the pipeline. the army corps of engineers will make the final decision. a san francisco police officer who was nearly killed after being shot in the head is back home this morning. a mentally ill man shot kevin downs three weeks ago. yesterday, he visited the terville police station. tweeting this picture with him and his fellow officer. earlier yesterday, the sheriff and deputies from santa clara county visited him at valley medical center in san jose. >> he is an amazing spirits, and he is working hard to get back to 100%. so he could return to the san francisco police department. that's his intention. >> downs is still partially paralyzed in his right leg, and continue with daily physical therapy at home. days to go until election day, south bay mayor says he is

worried about voter fraud. katie marzullo has the story. >> reporter: former mayor got unexpected mail ahead of the election in june. >> i received a ballot for my mother, who had passed away about a year before, and also from my son, who moved away about a year before as well. >> reporter: he says the register voter office said to write "deceased" and send them back in. he got them again, making him wonder about voter fraud. >> i'm nervous if hy been so increased, i could have voted three times this year. >> impossible says the register for voters. >> 100% are hand checked. it is not computer checked. we check them by hand. what we're doing is verifying the person's signature on their registration form, there is no registration form against the signature on the vote by mail envelope. if it doesn't match, it doesn't get counted. >> reporter: he says questionable signature res viewed by three employees, one

a former ucf surgeon is charged with illegal narcotic prescriptions. police arrested christopher owens on thursday, after a five month investigation. was a faculty member at the university's san francisco va medical center. the university fired him this week and released this statement. ucf stakes this incident seriously and urges its entire clinical staff to be alert for opioid misuse and to report any

such suspicions. prosecutors say they'll only charge one person in connection with the sex scandal that has affected law enforcement in the bay area the charge is now just a misdemeanor. the d.a.'s office has investigated this case for seven months. in other departments, officers face charging, including seven in al media county. some of them are felonies. the d.a. said that's not the case in this case. >> based on ms. abusalin's own words, she was over 18, those sexual interactions were consensu consensual. >> the misdemeanor charges for a retired oakland police captain now in his 80s, prosecutors say he paid for sex and will be charged with soliciting a prostitute. a skimmer device was found at a gas station in uncorporated mill valley. a gas station employee noticed it on thursday, sheriff's

officials say it was put there sometime during the night. skimmer devices are used to steal credit card numbers and personal information. some use bluetooth technology so they can access it remotely. there are so many great schools in the san francisco bay area. but not everyone, every school is acknowledged by the u.s. department of education. on tuesday, sun valley elementary in san rafael will be honored. leann melendez tells us what makes them great. >> reporter: you know when a school is located on happy lane, there is a good chance things are probably going well for students and teachers. >> we never want to stop learning and growing. that makes it an exciting place to be. >> reporter: in the case of sun valley elementary, school life is going so well, they'll soon receive a blue ribbon. the blue ribbon is the highest achievement for any school. this year, the u.s. department of education will award blue

ribbons to 279 public schools nationwide. the school hasn't reinvented the wheel. it just knows what works for all kids, teachers and parents know not all kids learn the same way. >> make sure we throw really broad net of academic achievement, so that if a child cannot access the content in one way, they're provided many opportunities to be able to access the content in a variety of ways. >> reporter: teachers communicate professionally with each other to discuss how each child can excel. volunteers put in 100 hours a week to help students with their work. in some cases, students want someone to read with. but perhaps one of the things that sets sun valley apart is their mindfulness program, to reduce stress and learn how to relax. >> they use their mindfulness strategy to help them be calm and make good choices. >> i think it is really cool. because it helps people feel to

take breaths so they can be calm and so they'll have that for their whole life. >> reporter: the award they'll receive shows the little school that could finally did. in san rafel, abc 7 news. abc 7 was in san leandro as dozens helped fix up a park at grover cleveland park. the previous playground was 25 years old. it is based on a design created by children and have creative thinking. it is a nonprofit that has opened more than 16,000 playgrounds nationwide. stiet wildliate wildlife ofe putting a dungeness crab today, and commercial crab begins on november 15th. it should hit local stars not long after that. a toxin last year delayed the

the north bay. mid 40s in livermore, chilly for everyone. by this afternoon, sunny and mild. east bay, south bay, north bay, increasing clouds along the coast, we'll see fog, as much as 10 degrees cooler. everyone will cool down through the second half of the weekend and maybe add in a few rain drops. lisa, thank you. in south carolina, new information revealed in the case of a rescued woman. she was held captive phon months, chained inside a storage container. police returned to the scene yesterday and discovered human remains. the suspect, a realtor was in court. authorities say this may not be the end. >> reporter: the grizzly find in the south carolina woods, an unidentified body and the search for more victims. convicted sex offender, todd kohlhepp appearing in court. >> kidnapping. >> reporter: charged in the kidnapping of kala brown, held captive for two months, just rescued from a shipping

container on his property. >> she witnessed the defendant shoot charles david carver. >> reporter: brown telling police her boyfriend, who disappeared with her in late august, was killed at the hand of the suspect. police zeroed in after chasing brown's cell phone pings to a nearby tower. they heard banging during a search of kohlhepp's property. she was found inside a second metal crown, chained by the neck and ankle. she recently cleaned homes for the real estate agent. the suspect's mother said just shoot me, that's all i can say. i'm so, so sorry. i just can't believe this. >> he has not entered a plea in this case, but the sol is tore said he was convicted as a teenager of kidnapping and raid. abc 7, woodruff, south carolina. new this morning, republican presidential candidate, donald trump, is talking about his plan to move our country in a new

direction. in the weekly republican address, trump discussed what he'll do in his first 100 days as president if elected. that includes creating millions of new jobs and rebuilding the military. trump says this isn't just a campaign, but a movement to return the power to the american people. >> i'm asking for your vote. your help in electing a republican majority in congress. so that we can finally change this broken system and make america great again, and when i say great, i mean great for everyone. >> trump says as president, he wants to bring real change the american people deserve. on the democratic side, president obama discusses open enrollment for health insurance. in his weekly addresses, he said the uninsured rate is the lowest it has been and health care prices have been going up slowly. he credits the affordable care act for bringing 20 million adults to have health insurance. >> it was to make sure more

rebate for a new washer. in the south bay there are new details regarding a san jose woman who was busted for selling fake makeup to unsuspecting customers. a story you'll only see on abc 7 news. >> reporter: piece by piece, these counterfeit cosmetics was a portion of what was confiscated on halloween. >> shameful and too bad that somebody has to resort to something like that. >> reporter: special agents with u.s. immigration and custom enforcement investigations team said the woman, who has not been identified, had been selling fake makeup and hairstyling products for several months, coming from an exporter in asia. >> we target those organizations that are involved in the global trafficking of counterfeit goods, because of the threat that it poses, both to the u.s. consumer and to u.s. industries. >> reporter: abc 7 news spoke exclusively to special agent in

injured, including two suspects, who have been arrested in connection to the shooting. both suspects are men, ages 17 and 21. we've been told that they are in stable condition. the other six victims are four women and two men, they range in age from 17 to 28. of those victims, five are in stable condition. one is in critical. our media partner, the east bay times, reports the shooting was a result of a dispute at the club. in sports, both cal and stanford are at home today against pac-12 rivals, the cardinals face oregon state at the farm kickoff. 12:30 p.m. tonight, washington battles cal at memorial stadium. if you're not going that game, you can watch it on our sister network, espn. as for basketball, the warriors wouldn't be back in action until monday, and yesterday they were hoping extend their winning streak. here's larry beil with more in this morning's sports report. good morning, everybody.
