death of a man hit by a car at market and delores streets. it happened last night just before 11:00. witnesses say the victim was on an island, not in the crosswalk, when he was hit. he had a cane and roller bag with him. he died at the scene, despite efforts by bystanders to survive him. the driver is cooperating with police. and developing news out of walnut creek. police have arrested a man believed to be involved in a possible shooting on 680. our media partner at the east bay times reports the man was surrounded in walnut creek bart station after leading police on a chase through pleasanton, san ramon and danville. traffic was at a standstill in the area for hours. officers were investigating a report of a freeway shooting when they spotted the alleged gunman. on the campaign trail, donald trump was rushed offstage in reno last night. the secret service claims

someone shouted "gun" at the rally. they arrested a man, found no weapon. the man was released and not charged. the man later told an abc affiliate in las vegas that he had a "republican against trump" sign and people started attacking him before trump was led off. it was a chaotic end to a very long day for both candidates. abc news reporter jonathan betts has the latest on the campaign trail. >> donald trump was speaking in reno, nevada when he took note of an apparent protester in the audience. >> we have one of those guys from the hillary clinton campaign. >> and suddenly -- his secret service detail sprang to his side and rushed the candidate off the stage. there was a commotion in the crowd in front of the podium. security took a man into custody and escorted him out of the hall. minutes later trump returned unhurt. >> nobody said it was going to be easy for us. >> as their campaigns wind down --

the latest abc news poll released last night shows hillary clinton five points ahead of donald trump. it's her largest lead since trump made a late october push. the election will be the focus of "this week." guests include john podesta, charm of the campaign. for the democrats and john riebus, campaign chair for the run cans. "this week" with george stephanopoulos airs at 8:00 this morning. the lines were long for early voting yesterday. abc7 news was at the registrar of voters office in san jose where people waited up to 30 minutes just to get a ballot. it's one of six early voting centers in santa clara county. bay area election officials are telling he voters not to worry when they cast their ballots. california is one of the few states immuned to cyber attempts to create confusion on election day.

abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian explains. >> in san francisco's department of elections, ballots are being sorted and the time-consuming process of manually organizing ballots is underway. the paper trail is long and purposeful in this elections office. >> we take any questions or concerns about voting integrity very seriously. >> a gallop survey in august showed 36% of americans felt voter fraud would most likely be a major problem this election and just 43% had a, quote, great deal of confidence that their vote would be counted correctly. the reality is just two states recently had their voting systems hacked. not in california where paper ballots are used. >> there's no possible way for our results to be hacked. >> nothing in the voting booth is attached to the internet. but some fear state websites or

almeda county officers remembered one of their own last night. sheriff's officer explorer carle rack session was found dead thursday at a park in oakland. it is the first time the explorers program has lost someone. abc7 news reporter sergio quinn taken no lost someone. >> reporter: for the family, this was an emotional event. it was put together by her fellow sheriff's department explorers, many of them still trying to understand what happened. >> we are still all in shock. we wouldn't expect this to happen to carla. karla was one of the best squared-away people i knew. >> the group lined up to offer their condolences to karla's parents. after a couple difficult days, her family welcomed the event. >> we appreciate the outpouring and we thank you for being here for us. thank you very much.

temperatures in the 70s. lisa will be here shortly with a full accuweather forecast. a woman who drown friday in the russian river is a long-time former berkeley teacher. 69-year-old heidi boley was canoeing with two friends when her boat overturned. she disappeared. her friends swam to shore. rescuers found her a short time later but they could not revive her. she taught math and science for more than two decades and recently worked part-time for the district. a shocking find just outside fresno. the couple found multiple burned animal remains dumped on the side of the road. reporter corey james from our sister station found out this is not the first time they have made this type of disturbing discovery. >> it's heartbreaking to see in person. >> reporter: the photo is too graphic to show you without blurring out part of the picture.

she shows you the picture of a dog she found friday on the side of the road. >> you could still see the face, the broken structures. it was obviously a small dog, but it had been badly burned. [train whistle] >> it was found feet away from the train tracks at avenue 15 and be santa fe drive saturday. and evidence of what was likely used to scorch it was left behind. >> there were several, maybe about five or six butane cans just spread out over the entire scene. you know right away that, okay, this wasn't an accident. you don't do that. it's not an accident. butane cans just don't show up in the area. >> yvonne and her husband, casey, said it was not just one dog they found. there were multiple burnt animal skeleton remains all stretched out over the half-mile stretch of dogs. >> the other ones were unrecognizable flied. you could see some bones, heads, paws, sculls.

>> last year they took photos of a similar scene. for them seeing it again raises questions and concerns. >> literally they are being tortured and harmed in such a way that's brutal and that it needs justice. yeah, it's very disheartening to see the same thing a year later, identical. >> corey james, abc7 news. dramatic video from the chp shows firefighters rescuing two people and a dog dropped 80 feet down the side of a cliff. it happened at rodeo beach yesterday afternoon. it was in the marin he head lands. the dog fell off the cliff first. the owner and a good samaritan then went after him, but got stuck. firefighters hoisted them up one by one into a chp helicopter. the dog's owner is thankful everything turned out okay. >> i am just incredibly grateful and so glad that i got out of it and that everybody got out of it. >> the dog, named pancake, went to the vet with some minor scrapes and bruises.

happening today some raider fans plan to send a message to team owner mark davis during today's game. that message, stay in oakland, don't go to vegas. davis has made it clear that he is moving to nevada unless he finds a better deal. fans will be handing out 10,000 signs that say "stay in oakland." and flying a banner over the coliseum, as well. sponsors of the event include the group "save oakland and"stay in oakland" and the raiders booster club. last had year they enacted money to build a stadium for the raiders. also happening today, the 49ers "salute to service" game. three-star marine corps general rex mcmillan will be among the military personnel honored. he grew up in clear lake, a diehard 49ers fans. today's game against the new orleans saints will also feature a flyover by two osprey jets from the marine corps air face at mirmar. november is military appreciation month.

where all of that cloud cover has capped parts of marin and sonoma and underneath we have the moisture. so some isolated showers, 59 by the delta with five-mile visibility. 56 in livermore, 62 in concord. so half-mile visibility santa rosa. just over a mile at the coast. and with that cloud cover and the southerly winds, we are much, much warm he were. as much as 17 degrees warmer up in the north bay and here's all the clouds along the coast. 6:41 the sunrise. 50s and 60s until noontime. the clouds thin out. and the sun sets at 5:05. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. police in oakland continue to investigate a ferocious gun battle that left eight people wounded, including one in critical condition. it happened just after midnight on saturday at 14th street near broadway. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard has the details. >> i was listening to music and it was bullets like everywhere.

>> reporter: angela was inside a bar and heard the gunshots coming from the street. she ran for cover. >> people who were downstairs ran upstairs. it scared everyone, because then everyone else started running. i ran and hid in the ladies room until the shooting stopped. >> they say is came from the street. two men exchanged gunfire,, wounding six people caught in the gunfire. >> when i came outside, there was blood everywhere. >> victims, 17 to 28 years old, were rushed to the hospital and two men were arrested. they were also wounded. >> instances like this are heartbreaking. >> oakland mayor libby schaaf reacting to the crime. she said police are working to reduce gun violence. >> we are putting so much energy into reducing violence into every find in the city. we do to the play favorites with neighborhoods, this is about human rights. >> last year musicians emiliano nevarez was killed by a stray bullet leaving a bar also on 14th street in oakland.

millions of floridians have already cast their ballots. a boisterous group of donald trump supporters rallied in the south bay yesterday. [chanting] >> abc7 news was there as the santa clara county trump campaign and the group young millennials for trump held a get out the vote event. it was at the corner of stevens street and winchester boulevard. they aren't shy about why they prefer the republican nominee. >> well, he's obviously the best choice. i think that he will, in fact, do something to make america great again, get the government out of our lives except where we can use some help like at the border. everything he says fits with what i believe. >> supporters say even in california where democrats hold the majority, there is a large contingent backing trump. of the 17 propositions on tuesday's state ballot, one is opposed by both the republican

and democratic parties. supporters say it's common sense. prop 60 would require condoms for performers in adult films. right now california and new hampshire are the only states that allow adult films to be made and both have regulations. now voters are being asked to decide whether more restrictions are needed. >> she is among those fight ing proposition 60. she's among those fighting proposition 60. it would require performers to wear condoms, producers to pay for more medical exams, and allow people who watch porn to sue if they don't see condoms being used. >> when i'm on set and my performers ask to use a condom, i'm totally fine with it and it has nothing to do with that. i don't like the forced messaging by the government.

>> she and others say the industry already has strict measures in place to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. in fact, cal-osha recently had more guidelines. but prop 60 backers say the industry is defying current law. >> as a result, thousands of young men and women are illegally and routinely exposed to sexually transmitted diseases, including hiv. >> but many medical professionals say prop 60 is ill-conceived. >> this is not a public health measure, it's some kind. punitive, strange law. >> and those in the industry say lawsuits would expose their names and addresses, putting them at physical risk. something backers don't buy. >> there are all sorts of laws that allow for private citizens to sue to enforce the laws. >> if prop 60 becomes the law, performers say it will drive their industry underground where there would be fewer worker protections. no matter what happens in california with the vote to

warmer. some fog right here along the golden gate. so keep that this mind if you are headed out. a few showers this morning. afternoon sunshine with mild temperatures. it will be getting even milder tomorrow right on through thursday. then some changes into next weekend. the high surf advisory continues with the current wave heights up to 18 feet around monterey bay. so until 9:00 still pretty dangerous out there. so taking you through your day, hour by hour, and you will notice all the cloud cover. but a few showers continue to pop up. vallejo, into southern marin county, san francisco, mist and drizzle at the coast. but afternoon it is looking partly cloudy. pretty mild out there. we will enjoy that with numbers once again in the low to mid-60s from the coast, san francisco. 69 in oakland with mid-60s, a little cooler this the north bay where the clouds hang on a bit longer. 730 -- 70 in concord. if you are headed to santa

>> yeah. november is not following in october's footsteps. it's still early, though. >> it is. lisa, this is a story that you will be interested in. in ten more days n.a.s.a. plans to launch a new weather satellite that may enable earlier warnings for severe weather. the technology was developed at a lockheed martin research lap in palo alto. in a story you will see only on abc7 news. reporter david louie gives us a look at it's life-saving potential. >> by the time we see lightning, severe weather is at our doorstep. but out in space there are light things in clouds 5 to 13 miles high. this 200-pound instrument will measure each volt and send data to the ground. we are dressed in bunny suits to maintain a dust-free environment. >> the camera operates at 500 frames per second. it looks for a certain wave long of atomic oxygen that's created by lightning so it can look and

penetrate through clouds and see lightning. >> lightning at that altitude, especially cloud-to-cloud turns out to be a good predictor of severe weather, especially tornadoes on earth and it could empower meteorologists to provide earlier warnings. lockheed martin researchers have been working on this lightning mapper for ten years. it will be joined by another instrument to monitor solar flares. >> solar flares affect things like radio propagation and they can affect things like power grids on the ground. >> the data from that n.a.s.a. managed satellite will be available free to forecasters to help people know of fast-changing conditions. >> we will be saving lives by better predicting weather on the ground and helping people get to safety when severe weather is approaching. >> the 200-pound instrument will be joined by five others aboard this satellite, which will be launched on november 16th from cape canaveral and going up into space 22,000 miles. from lockheed martin in palo alto, david louie, abc7 news. >> coming up, the latest
