sunday, november 6th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist, lisa argen. >> good morning to you. also a lot of cloud cover we're looking at from live doppler 7 and there has been some showers, some mist, some drizzle and pretty low visibility. we're taking you down to santa cruz where it is 56 degrees, going for a high today in the upper 60s with a little more sunshine in the south and also the central coast. 59 in the city, it's 57 in gilroy with 60 in mountain view. and from emeryville it's a gray start. you've had some mist and drizzle in your neighborhood around emeryville and el cerrito. 64 by the delta and 59 in livermore. with the fog visibility just over a mile at the coast. also oakland has been an issue. your forecast then calls for temperatures to be in the 50s and 60s the next few hours. we'll get to partly to mostly cloudy conditions by noon time. more sunshine for you in the east bay valleys. the south bay climbing to near 70, but we'll talk about that earlier sunset, 5:05, and when

and how much it's going to warm up throughout the week ahead coming up. carolyn. lisa, thank you. we begin with developing news out of san francisco. police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a car at market and dolores streets. it happened last night just before 11:00. witnesses say the victim was on an island, not on the crosswalk when he was hit and had a cane and roller bag with him. he died at the scene despite efforts bye-b bystanders to rev him. the driver is cooperating with police. we have developing news out of walnut creek. police have arrested a man believed to be involved in a possible shooting on 680 near sunol. our media partner, "the east bay times" reports the man was surrounded in the walnut creek b.a.r.t. station after leading police on a chase through pleasanton, san ramon and danville. traffic was at a standstill in the area for hours. officers were investigating the report of the freeway shooting when they spotted the adding gunman. on the campaign trail,

donald trump was rushed offstage in reno last night. the secret service claimed someone shouted "gun" at the rally. they arrested a man but found no weapon. he was released and not charged. he later told an abc affiliate in las vegas that he had a republicans against trump sign and people started attacking him before trump was led off. it was a chaotic end to a very long day for both candidates. abc news reporter jonathan betts has the latest from the campaign trail. >> reporter: donald trump was speaking in reno, nevada, when he took note of an apparent protester in the audience. >> we have one of those guys from the hillary clinton campaign. >> reporter: then suddenly -- his secret service detail sprang to his side and rushed the candidate off the stage. there was a commotion in the crowd in front of the podium. security took a man into custody and escorted him out of the hall.

minutes later, trump returned unhurt. >> nobody said it was going to be easy for us. >> reporter: as their campaigns wind down -- >> i want to be the president for everybody. everybody who agrees with me, people who don't agree with me, people who vote for me, people who don't vote for me. >> reporter: the candidates trying to wind up voters. >> hillary and her special interests would rob our country blind. >> reporter: donald trump stealing a kiss from wife, melania, as she campaigned with him. there was massive turnout in nevada. nearly 37 million votes have already been cast in 39 states. >> know the power of your own voice, it can change the world. >> reporter: for hillary clinton, after friday's performance with jay z and beyonce, katy perry was singing her song at this concert in philadelphia. ♪ hoping to end the campaign on a

high note. jonathan betts, abc news, new york. the protester at the trump rally is austin crites. he insists that he was not a plant, that his actions were his own. he spoke exclusively this morning from abc news. >> are you supporting hillary clinton? do you have any association with the clinton campaign? >> no. i have no association whatsoever with them. i was a republican supporter through the primaries, and i have donated money to the hillary clinton campaign recently because i think that trump is a disaster for the country. >> he says he has already voted and he voted for hillary clinton. the latest abc news poll released last night shows hillary clinton now five points ahead of donald trump. it's her largest lead since trump made a late october surge. the lines were long for early voting yesterday. abc 7 news was at the registrar

of voters office in san jose where people waited up to a half an hour just to get a ballot. this is one of six early voting centers in santa clara county. bay area election officials are telling voters not to worry when they cast their ballots. california is one of the few states immune to cyber attempts to create confusion on election day. abc 7 news reporter lisa galesian explains. >> reporter: in san francisco's department of elections, ballots are being sorted and the time-consuming process of manually organizing ballots is under way. the paper trail is long and purposeful in this elections office. >> we take any questions or concerns about voting integrity very seriously. >> reporter: a gallup survey in august showed 36% of americans felt voter fraud would most likely be a major problem this election, and just 43% had a,

election guide and just enter your address. we'll get you a comprehensive resource with information on the candidates and measures on your local ballot. more news now, new details on a man who was killed and buried in a shallow grave at sonoma state university. the sonoma county sheriff's office says 18-year-old kirk kimberly had been stabbed multiple times. a landscaper found his body last wednesday buried next to a parking lot. detectives don't believe this was a random act of violence. they also say it had nothing to do with the university or its students. alameda county officers remembered one of their own last night. sheriff's office explorer carla ramirez-segoviano was found dead thursday at a royal viejo park in oakland. it's the first time the explorers program has lost someone.

>> reporter: for carla ramirez-segoviano's family, this was an emotional event. it was put together by her fellow sheriff's department explorers. many of them trying to understand what happened. >> we are all still in shock. karla is one of the more squared away people i knew. >> reporter: the group lined up to offer their condolences to karla's parents. after such a difficult couple of days, her family welcomed the event. >> we appreciate the support and we just thank you for being here for us. thank you very much. >> reporter: the 21-year-old went missing wednesday night. her body was found at a royal viejo park thursday in oakland. on friday, oakland police investigators announced they had detained two people in connection to her brutal murder. she had been beaten, stabbed and burned. investigators wouldn't give details about a motive behind the crime. >> from what i can tell right now, this is a personal matter. >> reporter: the alameda county

district attorney's office has not released the names of the two suspects in this case, but we talked with a guy who used to work with karla at an oakland fast food restaurant. he also knows one of the accused. >> i know the girl actually. she used to work with us at kfc. it kind of shocks me because how can a co-worker do that to another co-worker. >> reporter: he tells us the woman is named laura rogers. according to the sheriff's department, she's been booked into the santa rita jail charged with murder. happening now, lots of runners are racing right now in the golden gate half marathon. the 13.3 mile race began at the muni pier near aquatic park. runners are winding their way over the golden gate bridge to the marin headlands, then they will come back over the bridge to return to aquatic park. let's take a live look right now from our golden gate bridge camera. last year over 3700 runners took part in the race. it started at 7:00 this morning

and the course is open until 10:00. you see a few people there. i don't know, maybe most of them have started to finish up, lisa. >> yeah, maybe. the weather, they like it, it's probably cool. it is cool there, but it's a little more muggy across the golden gate bridge. they have had more moisture. you picked up a couple one-hundredths but right now we're looking at low 60s in hayward and oakland. it's foggy. there's even some mist and drizzle, but things will begin to turn around later on today. slow clearing. i'll detail it for you coming up. also ahead, a dog found burned to death. now police may be looking for a serial dog killer. and the raiders play one of their biggest games in years at the coliseum this afternoon. the message fans hope to send to the team's owner.

a woman who drowned friday in the russian river is a long-time former perki lberkele teacher. skype-year-old heidi boley was canoeing with two friends when her boat overturned. she disappeared as her friends swam to shore. rescuers found her a short time later, but they were unable to revive her. she taught math decades and recently worked part-time for the district. now to a shocking find just

outside of fresno. a couple saw multiple burned animal remains dumped on the side of the road. reporter cory james from our sister station found out this is not the first time they have made this type of disturbing discovery. >> it's heart-breaking to see in person. >> reporter: the photos too graphic to show you without blurring part of the picture, but yvonne wilson is looking at a dog she found friday burned on the side of the road. >> you could>> you could still , you could still see the bone structures. it was obviously a small dog, but it had been badly burned. >> reporter: it was found feet away from the train tracks near avenue 15 and santa fe drive saturday. even evidence of what was likely used to scorch it was left behind. >> in fact there was several, maybe about five or six butane cans just spread out over the entire scene. you know right away that, okay, this wasn't an accident. you don't do that. it's not an accident. butane cans don't just show up in an area.

>> reporter: yvonne and her husband, casey, say it was not just one dog they found. there were multiple burned animal skeleton remains, all stretched out along this half mile stretch of road. >> the other ones were unrecognizable. they were just bones. you could see like some paws, like some heads, like goat skulls. >> reporter: last year the couple took these photos of a very similar scene. so for them seeing it again raises questions and concerns. >> literally they are being tortured, they are being harmed in such a way that's brutal and that needs justice for. it's very disheartening to see the same thing a year later identical. dramatic video from the chp shows firefighters rescuing two people and a dog trapped 80 feet down the side of a cliff. it happened at rodeo beach in the marin headlands yesterday afternoon. the dog fell off the cliff first and then the owner and a good samaritan went after him but got stuck. firefighters hoisted them up one

by one into a chp helicopter. >> i am just incredibly grateful and so glad that i got out of it and that everybody got out of it. >> the dog named pancake went to the vet with some minor scrapes and bumps. happening today, some raiders fans plan to send a message to team owner mark davis during tonight's game. the message "stay in oakland, don't go to las vegas." davis has made it clear he's moving to nevada unless he finds a better deal. fans will be handing out 10,000 signs that say "stay in oakland" and flying a banner over the coliseum as well. sponsors of the event include the group save oakland sports, stay in oakland and the raiders booster club. last month nevada enacted a law to raise money to build a stadium for the raiders. also happening today, the 49ers salute to service game.

three-star marine corps lieutenant general rex mcmillan will be among the military personnel honored. he crew up in clear lake, a long-time 49ers fan. today's game against the new orleans saints will also feature a flyover by two osprey jets from the marine corps air station at miramar. this month is military appreciation month. and happening today, the 20th annual tri-valley veterans parade in pleasanton. abc 7 news was there last year as the parade moved along main street. organizers hold it about a week before veterans day so local vets can take part in other tributes. this friday's federal holiday honors all americans who have served in the military. good morning to you. waking up to a lot of cloud cover. while you were sleeping, live doppler 7 picked up just a little bit of moisture in the north bay. some raindrops.

you probably missed it but we are still looking at the effects of the cloud cover, the fog and the drizzle with a mile and a half visibility in oakland, half moon bay is improving but a live look outside, sfo delays of over an hour here. so you're definitely going to want to check in with your air carrier. 58 in gilroy. the drier air has been in the south bay, the moister air, san francisco, points north. oakland in between with 61 degrees so it almost feels muggy out there. check out mt. tam and it is gray and misty there. 63 in napa, 59 in santa rosa, 59 in livermore. with the cloud cover that weak frontal band really allows for temperatures to stay up. in fact we are much warmer than we were yesterday. 7 to 9 degrees warmer for concord and fairfield. a final look at -- this is san jose where it was sunnier this morning, but we'll get into some sunshine this afternoon. so this morning pretty gray. the clouds will be slow to clear. we'll get some sun in the east

bay, the south bay, but tomorrow much, much sunnier. high pressure builds in from the southwest and it's going to be a dry pretty good-looking week ahead. until 2:00 p.m. the national weather service has extended their high surf advisory. here's why. 12 to 17-foot waves here, so still very dangerous. hour by hour, check it out, maybe an isolated shower. here we are noon time and the clouds really don't want to go anywhere. we'll get a few breaks here and there, but that sun setting tonight at 5:05. it will be partly to mostly cloudy. with temperatures held down a bit due to the clouds, we'll see low 60s at the coast, 70 today for you in concord and san jose, 65 san francisco, richmond and santa rosa. if you're headed down to santa clara, a chance you'll see some sun but also cloud cover with 70 there. 68 by about 4:00 in the afternoon. over in oakland, 5:30 starts out mild at 63. remember that sun setting right after 5:00 and dropping to 60 degrees by 8:30. so the accuweather seven-day forecast, check it out.

the absence of raindrops, we only have one day out of the next seven where we can see a few sprinkles in the far north bay on friday. between now and then, we'll warm up and brighten up beginning tomorrow with mid-70s inland, low 70s around the bay, 60s at the coast. that is above average. and unfortunately november a big about-face from what happened in october. so it's still early. it was a nice start. but we'll have to take what we have. the string of sunny days coming up. >> maybe some rain near the end of the week. >> maybe. >> all right, thank you, lisa. just ahead, take a look at these jeans. they're vintage like nothing you've ever worn before. how they're still in pristine condition more than a century later.

there are complaints about a horrible odor in sacramento, many people have noticed it in the downtown area. it's coming from mexican free tail bats. they like to live in small crevices about an inch wide between the older buildings. a bat expert says the smell comes from their waste and also the males trying to attract female bats. >> the fall when the males are starting to think about the females for the winter, that gets even a little stronger. so right now we might be noticing some of that in addition to their normal odors. >> experts say sacramento has a

very large number of bats living under bridges as well. they say they're good to have around because they come out at night and eat all the mosquitos in the area. a 123-year-old pair of blue jeans produced right here in san francisco by levi strauss and company will soon go up for auction in maine. a technical glitch kept them from being auctioned off yesterday. the pair was only worn a few times by the owner, quite a big guy. the pants have a waist size of 44 and a 36-inch inseam. unlike modern day jeans, they don't have belt loops. back in 1897 you wore suspenders to keep your pants up. those jeans could fetch upwards of $80,000. still to come here on abc 7 mornings, the search for a missing mom in shasta county who disappeared without a trace while jogging. and on the state ballot,

bay, except right at the coast. so 50s and 60s for much of the morning and then by noon time a few peeks of sun in the north bay. we'll see 70 in the east bay and south bay with a mostly to partly cloudy today and sunset at 5:05. in developing news and in just a few moments, another search for a missing woman will get under way in redding. five days ago she vanished while jogging leaving behind her cell phone. >> reporter: this morning search team its scouring these rural roads and trails trying to piece together what happened to sherri pipinni. the mother of two vanishing without a trace while jogging near her home. >> she's such a great mom. we call her super mom. >> reporter: her family suspecting something went terribly wrong after she failed to pick up her two young kids

from child care. >> she wouldn't leave her babies. >> there's no way she would do anything to disrupt her children's routine. >> reporter: the only discovery so far, her abandoned cell phone. it was traced by her husband using the find my phone app. >> he found her phone close to the road. he called the authorities immediately. >> the fact that her phone was left there, that is a key piece of evidence that would indicate somebody may have taken her. >> she wouldn't just drop her phone if she was running away. >> reporter: according to police, papini was last seen wearing a pink jogging top. investigators and volunteers fanning out hoping to find any clues. >> we're branching out to contact businesses to see perhaps what they may have on their surveillance systems. >> reporter: friends, classmates and supporters coming from across california to help in the search. >> she is considered at risk due to the suspicious circumstances. >> she has a family that loves her. please just bring her home. with just two more days

until election day, we're seeing record-breaking in numbers of voters casting their ballots early. this is clark county, nevada, where elections officials say over 57,000 voted early on friday. long lines stretched through this grocery store in las vegas that was also a polling place. the market was just one of several early voting sites in the country -- or in the county, rather, that stayed open until 10:00 at night to accommodate the long lines. >> i've been working so this is like the day that i've had available to come do it so i'm just like -- >> it's her first time voting and she wanted me to come with her. >> reporter: in miami yesterday, trump and clinton supporters competed for attention outside early voting sites. that battleground state is also reporting record numbers of early voters. more than 5.7 million floridians have already cast their ballots. a boisterous group of donald trump supporters rallied in the

south bay yesterday. >> what do we want? trump. >> abc 7 news was there as the santa clara trump campaign and the group young millenials for trump held a get out the vote event at the corner of stevens creek and winchester boulevards. they aren't shy about why they prefer the republican nominee. >> well, he's obviously the best choice. i think that he will in fact do something to make america great again. get the government out of our lives, except where we can use some help like at the border. everything he says fits with what i believe. >> supporters say even in california where democrats hold the majority, there is a large contingent backing trump. of the 17 propositions on tuesday's state ballot, one is opposed by both the republican and democratic parties. but supporters say it's a common sense measure. prop 60 would require condoms for performers in adult films.

california and new hampshire are the only states that allow adult films to be made and have regulations, but now voters are being asked to decide whether more restrictions are needed. ariel works for san francisco-based kink.com as a producer and performer in adult films. she's among those fighting proposition 60. it would require performers to wear condoms, producers to pay for more medical exams and allow people who watch porn to sue if they don't see condoms being used. >> when i'm on set and my performers ask to use a condom, i'm totally fine with it. it has nothing to do with that. i don't like the force messag g messaging. >> she and others say the industry already has strict measures in place to prevent the spread of sexual low transmitted diseases. in fact cal osha recently decided against implementing more dpiguys lines. but prop 60 backers claim the

industry is defying current law. >> as a result, thousands of young men and women are illegally and routinely exposed to sexually transmitted diseases, including hiv. >> but many medical professionals say proposition 60 is ill-conceived. >> this is not a public health measure, this is some kind of punitive, strange law. >> and those in the industry say lawsuits would expose their names and addresses, putting them at physical risk. something backers don't buy. >> there are all sorts of laws that allow for private citizens to sue to enforce the laws. >> if prop 60 becomes the law, performers say it will drive the industry underground where there would be fewer worker protection. no matter what happens here in california with the vote to legalize recreational marijuana, law enforcement sources tell the i-team foreign drug cartels will continue to be a huge problem. dan noyes has obtained dramatic

welcome back, everyone. 9:40 on this first sunday in november. this is a live look from our santa cruz camera. you see a couple of people there on the rocks by the lighthouse and the waves are pretty strong. lisa says it's going to be about 67 degrees there today. what about where you live? she'll be along shortly with a full accuweather forecast. samsung is trying a new tactic to get those who still have their recalled note 7s to turn in those phones. the company will be releasing a software update that will limit the phone's ability to charge beyond 60%. it will also issue a reminder pop-up notification every time someone charges, reboots or turns on the screen of their

coast even inland. so fog and mist still for some of you but some afternoon sun here and there in the north bay as that cloud begins to -- that front begins to dissipate that cloud cover and sunny and warmer as high pressure builds in from the southwest tomorrow. so looking at the high surf until 2:00. so the national weather service keeps extending this beach hazard statement because the waves are just still so high and dangerous out there. so keep that in mind. as you go through the next couple of hours on your sunday, notice the clouds not really going anywhere any time soon. it's in the afternoon and we'll get a few peeks here and there, but for the game down in santa clara, it looks like we'll have a mild afternoon at 70 but a good deal of cloud cover. look for 69 in oakland, 64 in san rafael and right on through the afternoon. it's going to stay mild, in the upper 60s there with more clouds than sun. so over in oakland, that sun setting after 5:00 and temperatures could be a little bit muggy. 63 dropping to about 60. so starting out with the gray

our doorstep, but out in space there is lightning in clouds 5 to 13 miles high. this instrument will be capturing each bolt on what's essentially a giant digital camera and sending data to the grounds. we're dressed in bunny suits to maintain a dust-free environment. >> the camera operates at 500 frames per second and looks for a certain wavelength of atomic oxygen that's created by lightning so it can look and penetrate through clouds and see lightning. >> reporter: lightning at that altitude, especially cloud to cloud, turns out to be a good predictor of weather, especially tornados on earth, and could provide meteorologists to provide earlier warnings. they have been worked on this for ten years. it will be joins by another instrument to monitor solar flares. >> they affect things like radio propagation and things like power grids on the ground. >> reporter: the data from this nasa-managed satellite will be available free to forecasters to help people know of
