clinton's private e-mail server revealed nothing consequential. >> we were glad obviously this was resolved. >> reporter: the battle for the white house tense and close with clinton leading trump 47% to 43% in the latest abc news/"washington post" poll. and in just a short time the obamas will join clinton along with bon jovi and bruce springsteen in a rally in philadelphia. lyclinton slated to deliver a two-minute closing argument in a national tv ad. trump, meanwhile, will hold his final rally tonight in michigan joined by his running mate mike pence. live on capitol hill, i'm lauren lister, abc news. >> if early voting is an indication there could be a record turnout. carolyn tyler joins us live outside city hall. carolyn, you can just drive up and drop off tour ballot there. >> reporter: what could be more simple than that? and you've got about an hour or so to drive by and drop off that

ballot tonight. it's like being at the dmv only faster and less chaotic. the voting center in the basement of san francisco's city hall is humming. there were more early voters saturday and sunday than ever for the weekend before an election. 3,500. and another 2,000 or so are expected today. >> i was really quite impressed. i felt it was pretty much organized and moving in a timely manner. >> reporter: with such a surge of early voters the election's director believes the city is well on its way to a blockbuster turnout this year. >> i think we're going to have probably the second highest number of people voting in the city's history for this election. november 2008 was the highest number. >> reporter: that year the city saw an 81% voter turnout ushering in the barack obama presidency with huge numbers expected again this time around, the voting center has tripled

its capacity, 150 voting booths and extra personnel. there are 513,000 registered voters in san francisco. nearly half vote by mail. many others choose to vote in person like natasha holmes who was especially pleased to cast her ballot today. >> i will be real honest with you, i was not able to vote for several years because i was a convicted felon. once you're off parole and you change your life around and you're committed to doing the right things in life that you're able to come out and support your country. >> reporter: for all of these folks their civic duty is over. now if the election will hurry up already. >> it will be done tomorrow. there's either going to be a bottle of champagne or a bowl of xanax. either one. >> reporter: yeah, i hear you, man. we will all be glad when this is over.

8:00 because once 8:00 arrives the polls will close. i'll give you a closer look at the week ahead in a few minutes. ama and christian? >> new details about the murder of an east bay sheriff's volunteer. >> the body of karla ramirez-segoviano was found. now we're learning about the two people accused of killing her. >> sergio quintana has the latest. >> reporter: the alameda county district's attorney's office has released the charging documents against the two accused in the case. they say one of the accused used to work with the victim. they say, the investigators say, she actually planned this attack for days and her boyfriend helped. april cording to the alameda county sheriff's office 23-year-old laura rodgers has been in jail since this weekend held on murder charges. she used to work with the victim karla ramirez-segoviano at the

kfc restaurant in oakland. the manager says her whole crew has been shaken up by this. >> yeah, they were friends. friends with her and that's why i'm thinking a friend is going to do that to you. >> reporter: she says rodgers and the victim got along well according to rodgers' facebook page she's a 2011 graduate. rodgers' personality changed when she started seeing a new boyfriend, curtis taylor. he's also been held in the county jail since this weekend on murder charges. >> i can believe -- she didn't deserve this. she was a really nice person. >> reporter: this weekend the family attended a special vigil put together by her fellow sheriff's county explorers. everyone described her as a great person with dreams of becoming a sheriff's deputy. >> karla was a very vibrant person. she had a very open personality, you know, throughout the

explorer program. you could tell she was coming out of herschel. >> reporter: the 21-year-old was reported missing, her body found thursday in oakland. she had been beaten he, stabbed and burned. i talked with karla ramirez's family today. they didn't want to speak on camera. they said they're trying to make funeral arrangements. in oakland, sergio quintana, abc 7 news. hayward police are searching for the motive and person behind a double homicide. two people were shot and killed near the intersection of manon avenue and ranker place. it appears the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between the victims and the shooter. the victims' names have not been released. well, coming up on abc 7 news at 4:00, a bizarre story out of contra costa county. a woman found dead shortly after she allegedly hit her estranged husband and two other people with her car. plus -- >> she was definitely taken against her will. >> the desperate search for a

thank you all very much. police believe a woman threw herself off the benicia bridge after running down her stranged husband. police say following a family court hearing in martinez she hit her ex and two friends in a cross walk. she then backed up and ran over her ex again. this is witness video from the scene. all three moderate injuries. the same car hit a vehicle on the benicia martinez bridge. the woman got out and jumped over the side. her body was found in the water. sky 7 shows the abandoned car there. investigators have not identified the woman. sherri papini hasn't been seen since she went jogging last

wednesday afternoon. family members knew something was wrong when papini didn't pick up her two young children from child care. >> she was definitely taken. she could drop a phone but she would never in a million years not pick up our children. >> the only sign so far has been papini's missing cell phone. police say her husband triesed it using the find my phone app. he found her phone close to the road and called authorities immediately. the nation's first female attorney general janet reno has died. she was a key figure during the clinton administration and faced criticism for her handling of the deadly raid on the compound in waco, texas, and seizure of a cuban boy elian gonzalez. >> reporter: janet reno was the first woman to serve as u.s. attorney general. she famously told reporters i don't do spin. appointed by president bill clinton she served as attorney general for nearly eight years.

governor in 2002 losing in a democratic primary. the campaign brought her public career to an end. >> i prefer not to think of what i have accomplished that is most satisfying to me. i prefer to think of what i have yet to do in whatever time i have. >> reporter: she died from complications of parkinson's disease having spent her final days at home surrounded by family and friends. janet reno was 78. sherry preston, abc news, new york. a woman's shoe jammed an escalator triggering a chain of events that caused long delays for riders this morning. the shoe put the escalator out of service when passengers piled on to another escalator the added weight broke the second one. the two out of service escalators caused major crowding at the station. it was so bad some trains had to bypass the embarcadero entirely. the escalator damage d by the shoe has been fixed. the other one, though, is still out of service.

you may notice more police on san jose streets. our media partner the mercury news reports the police department received a $300,000 state grant to reduce serious traffic accidents. the money will go towards staffing dui checkpoints, saturation patrols and getting more officers out enforcing traffic laws. the paper reports last year there were 60 traffic deaths in san jose. the highest number in more than 20 years. tesla motors says cars ordered after the start of the new year will get roughly 1,000 miles worth of credits each year at the supercharging stations, but after your credits are used, owners will have to pay for it. cars ordered on or sold on or before january 1st will still get free charging. all right. time to check on our weather as we start out the workweek this pre-election day. >> how about a little mid-november warmth. don't you love this? temperatures are well above average and will climb later in

planner, day planner, 7:00 tomorrow morning the polls open inc california. it will be nice and bright. bright, sunny skies over most of the bay area with temperatures generally in the 50s at that hour. during the middle part noon to 4:00 it will be mild. still under mainly sunny skies. temperatures in the 70s near the bay and inland. we'll see mid-60s on the coast. as the polls close it will still be clear and relatively mild but you'll want to get to your polling place before 8:00. otherwise you may not get your vote to count. or you may not get to vote. if you vote, it will count. upper 60s at the coast to low to mid-70s around the bay. mid to upper 70s may develop in our inland areas and here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. we have lovely weather ahead, mild for mid-november. highs will reach upper 70s inlapped tomorrow, mid-70s around the bay and mid to upper 60s on the coast. veterans day is friday.

and here's what's making headlines at 4:30, it's your voice, your vote on this election eve. the final campaign blitz is on in battleground states. donald trump is making stops in four states and hillary clinton's final rally tonight will be a star-studded affair in battleground north carolina featuring lady gaga and jon bon jovi. and on election night both clinton and trump will be in new york city. abc world news tweeted the city is ramping up security for election day. city officials say officer deployment will be similar to that on new year's eve.

and many of us aren't going to the polls but we're votinging. laura anthony tweeted more than 60% of contra kocosta vouters a expected to vote by mail with 200,000 ballots already received. and we've already seen long lines of early voters. part of that spurred by phone banks and grassroots campaigns to get immigrant and minority voters to the polls. abc 7 news reporter david louie is live in san jose with a look at the latino vote. david? >> reporter: there is a slight lull -- that's just changed. there is a line of cars as people drop off their vote by mail ballot here at the registrar of voters. an estimated two out of three latinos are democrats so the presidential race is bound to cause many of them to want to come out and vote. however, many local and state issues as well in which they have strong economic interests. this phone bank is representative of efforts to get latinos to turn out and vote sponsored by the immigrant rights group called siren and

state and local political heavyweights are making their final push today for transportation measure rr. bay area voters are being asked to pass a bond to improve b. b.a.r.t.'s infrastructure. amy holyfield has the details. >> reporter: a who's who's list came together for measure rr. the b.a.r.t. $3.5 billion measure. >> we do not have the luxury not to pass measure rr. too many hundreds of thousands of working people depend upon its safety and its viability every day. >> reporter: but one politician wasn't there, state senator steve glazer who has nine b.a.r.t. stations in his district. he says voters should hold out for a better measures that guarantees it would go to
