you can see a silver car on the shoulder of the span and first responders it at the scene. the driver apparently jumped to her death after a really strange string of events. >> i'm ama daetz in. >> and a story outside a cou courthouse that ended at benicia bridge. one person dead and three hurt. vic lee joins us outside police headquarters. >> reporter: well, it is a strange story and sad. police here are still trying to put all of the pieces together but it appears to be a bad divorce which turned into attempted murder which turned into suicide. the three victims, the husband, possibly his female friend and a witness he had called for his defense in the divorce case. >> cars crashing into each other

and people yelling to stop. >> reporter: juanita brand was coming out of the courthouse at about 10:30 this morning when she saw this scene. her iphone camera captured the moments immediately after a driver struck three people at the cross walk. >> i saw the people laying on the ground, the ambulance and the sheriffs or deputies that were around. >> reporter: police say the female driver struck the three just after they left the family law courthouse. one was her estranged husband as she possibly saw the other party was coming out of court at the same time. at which time from multiple witness statements accelerated towards a group of people that were in court with her as well. >> reporter: police say she intentionally ran him over, then reversed the car and hit him again. james works in the martinez harbor master's office this is what he was told from a source that's reliable. >> a woman was at a divorce court earlier this morning. she got angry apparently after

the proceedings, used her car to run over her husband. >> reporter: police say she then drove at high speeds to the benicia martinez bridge where she crashed her car. sky 7 was there immediately after the collision. >> tried to jump over in the car over a center divider. the divider stopped her. she got out of the vehicle and jumped into the water. >> reporter: a coast guard boat retrieved her body and brought it to the marina. police have yet to identify her or the hit-and-run victims. they say the victims' injuries are moderate. vic lee, abc 7 news. the story definitely seems to have struck a nerve. a lot of people are talking about it online. you can see the responses on our facebook page. that's facebook.com/abc 7 news. in 14 hours election day begins in california as thousands of polling precincts open up around the state. >> but many have already voted and they're doing so in record numbers in san francisco. 3,500 people cast early ballots

this weekend, the most ever on the weekend before a presidential election. another 2,000 are expected to vote early today. >> big crowds are turning out in santa clara county. check out these lines, more than 300,000 ballots have been cast there. that's more than a third of all registered voters. they've already started counting those votes with workers on 24-hour shifts. and abc 7 news was in front of berkeley city hall as voters made steady use of this ballot drop box. by noon the drop box was already stuffed to the top. ballots even start ed to stick out of the slot. >> we don't know what to expect tomorrow. we don't know whether there will be lines but we're prepared. we have extra staff onboard. >> the contra costa county election chief expects a big turnout tomorrow. the election office received more than 1,000 calls before noon today. >> and 75% to 80% of the registered voters are expected to vote by the time polls close at 8:00 tomorrow night. well, it is almost over.

after tomorrow night the country should have a new president elect. >> one of the most contentious races in u.s. history. abc 7 news report er with how both candidates made one final push. lyanne? >> clinton talked about healing a divided nation, acknowledging there is much work to do. trump vowed to end alleged corruption in washington, d.c., and once again promised to drain the swamp which has become his latest catch phrase. >> one day -- >> reporter: republican candidate donald trump voicing what most americans are thinking today, both presidential hopefuls were winding down their campaigns focusing on those battleground states where the race is a virtual tie. democratic candidate hillary clinton had three states on her agenda -- michigan, north carolina, and pennsylvania, including a concert by bruce springsteen and bon jovi in philadelphia. >> we're just going to work until the last vote is counted.

>> reporter: trump had stops in florida, north carolina, pennsylvania, new hampshire, and michigan. once again trump blasted fbi director james comey after comey announced clinton could not face criminal charges for the mishandling of e-mails. on sunday comey said based on our review we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in july. >> hillary clinton is guilty. she knows it. the fbi knows it. the people know it. >> reporter: her campaign focused instead on pushing voter turnout. >> the choice in this election could not be clearer. it really is between division or unity. >> think about where we were eight years ago. >> reporter: president obama campaigning for clinton made the case to young voters while trump had some help from former alaska governor sarah palin. >> we can get there with donald trump. >> reporter: the nation awaits as one of these candidates will hopefully be a president for all americans. lyanne melendez, abc 7 news.

the colorful and contentious election is wearing on some. >> if it seems like it's been going on forever, you're pretty close. hillary clinton first announced her candidacy in a web video 575 days ago. >> every day americans need a champion, and i want to be that champion. >> i am officially running for president of the united states. >> donald trump made his presidential intentions known about two months later. laura anthony is live in martinez with a look at the current mood of voters. laura? >> reporter: this is actually a drive-through ballot drop-off location. we've seen a steady stream of people here all day. many voters we talked with very anxious to finally be crossing this finish line. >> i want to be the president for all americans. >> we are going to do something so special. >> reporter: the final speeches and rallies are nearly done.

and the early ballots are already being counted. but now that election day is upon us, how are the voters feeling? >> i'm a little worried. >> reporter: how are you feeling? >> okay. i'm not really happy with either candidate. >> i'm relieved. >> reporter: after one of the longest, most contentious, many just want it to be over. others worry about what might come after the votes are counted t. >> especially as an african-american man feels like it could turn back the clock in terms of civil rights or move us forward. >> reporter: what few expect, not after this vitriolic race is all of those who supported the loser will graciously accept the winner. >> i think this was so divisive and so nasty that i think it will take a long time. >> as far as uniting the nation in the aftermath as we're thinking about that, it's going to be a tough one.

ar argene. they will have to bring in power washers to remove the message. the campaign manager doesn't know who is responsible. san francisco police are looking for suspects in two separate attacks. the victims had their cameras stolen. this first happened on friday in golden gate park. a suspect grabbed the camera away from a 64-year-old man knocking him to the ground with help from two others. the second incident happened yesterday on marcus street. a 19-year-old man confronted by a man and woman with a nail file. they grabbed the camera and took off. >> a messy accident cause d a lt of damage to a homeowner's property. over saratoga street near 580 in alameda county. the palm tree broke the truck's fall.

we have new details about a sonoma state student found dead and buried in a shallow grave. investigators are looking for a bicycle. the 18-year-old was found

stabbed to death on campus grounds last wednesday. his bicycle is unique. detectives believe finding it could help with the investigation. it's a white men's 2011 mountain bike with recently installed reflective road tires. a playground confrontation sent a teenager to the hospital in san francisco. it happened friday night in the area of silver and san bruno avenues. the 15-year-old was playing on a basketball court when he was confronted by an older man. the boy walked away but three the ground. >> the victim lost consciousness upon impact of the ground. he woke up and the suspects were punching and hitting him. >> the teenager's home recovering from his injuries. police are looking for three men between 25 and 35 years old. we've just learned new details in the murder of an alameda county sheriff's department explorer. the charging documents state both suspects have admitted to the crime.

21-year-old karla ramirez-segoviano was found dead on thursday. abc 7 reporter sergio quintana with details on the man and woman. >> reporter: at least one of the suspects has been arraigned today in downtown oakland. those charging documents mentioned have some pretty disturbing details about the alleged crimes. the alameda county district attorney's office has charged laura rodgers and her boyfriend with murder. investigators say they lured 21-year-old karla ramirez to a park in oakland for an attack rodgers allegedly planned for days. she used to work with the victim here it at this kfc restaurant in oakland. the manager says her whole crew has been shaken up by this. >> yeah, they were friends. laura was friends with everybody here. she was friends and that's why i'm thinking a friend is going

to do that to you. >> reporter: she says rodgers and the victim got along well according to rodgers' facebook page she's a 2011 graduate of holy high school. rodgers' personality changed when she started seeing a new boyfriend curtys taylor. he admitted to helping rodgers with the murder by purchasing a gas can and gasoline waiting for the victim to arrive at the park and dousing her with gasoline when the attack began. >> she didn't deserve this. she was really, really a nice person. >> reporter: this weekend her famili family attended a special vigil put together by her fellow sheriff's explorers. everyone there described her as a great person with dreams of becoming a sheriff's deputy. >> karla was a vibrant person. she had a very open personality. you could really tell she was coming out of herschel. >> reporter: i talked with karla ramirez's family today. in oakland, sergio quintana, abc

7 news. the volkswagen emissions scandal has spread to its sister automaker audi. >> michael finney is here with that. michael? yeah this could get much bigger again. a german publication reports regulators found evidence audi vehicles were tampered with. the vehicles reportedly involved in this latest findings are the audi a-6, a-8 and q-5. those devices only work during testing. when testing is not involved the cars consume more fuel this is the same charge volkswagen just settled for $15 billion. now we reached out to the california air resource board but did not hear back by deadline. nearly 2 million california homeowners insured by state farm will receive refund checks. state farm was ordered to refund

$104 million and lower rates going forward. the consumer federation of california and watchdog challenged a rate hike suggested by the company last year. the commissioner ruled not only was the request unwarranted but said state farm had been overcharging all along. the law judge agreed. no word yet on the average amount of refunds. relatively new holiday tradition will be carried on another year by toys 'r' us. the store will open at 5:00 p.m. on thanksgiving night and stay open until 11:00 p.m. on friday. great news for workers who want the overtime and holiday pay. not such great news for those who prefer to be home with families. toys 'r' us says response from shoppers for the special hours has been positive since the tradition began in 2013. we've been at the toys 'r' us during these times, packed. people love it.

you the skies are turning dark. high clouds overnight. mild days through thursday and it is going to get cooler by week's end. so when you get going tomorrow here is your hour-by-hour forecast for election day. polls open at 7:00 a.m. you look at temperatures in the 50s so quite comfortable. it will be mild between noon and 4:00 p.m. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. high clouds will be passing through mid-50s to the low 60s so no excuses for tomorrow for election day and for voting. the weather looks nice. temperatures first thing in the morning with the clouds around insulating us. not going to be very cold. low to upper 50s and then for the afternoon south bay readings well above normal. 77 in it gilroy. occasional clouds passing through the bay area on the peninsula. 68 in half moon bay. downtown san francisco 70 degrees. in the authority bay low to mid-70s for most of you. 74 in santa rosa and the east bay you're looking at mild sunshine. 72 oakland.

i've never liked marijuana. but i'm voting yes on prop 64 to legalize marijuana for adults 21 and over. it has important safeguards for families, like strict product labeling and child-proof packaging of all marijuana products. and banning edibles that would appeal to a child. raising a teenager, that regulated system makes a lot more sense than what we have now. plus, 64 taxes marijuana to fund priorities like after-school programs. personally, marijuana's not for me. but my mind's made up. i'm voting yes on 64.
