more it is a great number when you multiply that with 300 or 400 people across the nation. >> volunteers will be back at it starting with the calls and texts to east coast voters. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> abc7 news was at san francisco city hall as workers counted thousands of ballots. they estimated 2,000 people cast early votes and on saturday and sunday 3500 people voted early. that's a record for the weekend before super tuesday. overall a third of those eligible in san francisco have voted which is also a record. abc7 news was in san jose as workers processed votes. they will work 24 hours a day until all votes are counted. election officials mailed out 700,000 vote by mail ballots and this year half are back. it is all about the results tomorrow and we will have an early edition at 3:00

grizzly details about a woman from san leandro. carla was an alameda county sheriff department explorer. she was found beaten, stabbed and burned on thursday. prosecutors say her friend laura rogers admitted to planning the murder and luring her to the park. the d.a. says roger's boyfriend curtis taylor admitted to dousing her with gasoline. both suspects are being held without bail. developing news tonight. we are learning more about what made a woman strike a person outside the courthouse and then that same woman jumped off a bridge. katie is live for us. >> reporter: it appears to be a divorce proceeding gone terribly wrong. we reached out to the family tonight, but as you can imagine they did not want to comment. this story is strange all-around, and as one witness puts it, it is sad all-around.

breed, cancer. >> and here is morning anchor natasha. >> you know the drill. >> reporter: for jerry life is not complete without a golden retriever. through 25 years and eight dogs he also knows what it is like to lose them. >> i mean i always cry. and it takes weeks to get over it. >> reporter: pam kennedy has experienced the same pain. three of her golden retrievers died from three different types of cancer. >> all i can think of is god needs more angels. >> reporter: and now they are taking action. >> when the breeder said get him into this morris study for his entire life. and i said sign me up. >> reporter: researchers at the foundation in colorado are trying to get answers with a ground breaking 32 million-dollar national study. it will track 3,000 purebred golden retrievers. they track every aspect of their dog's lives from where they live to what they eat and where they exercise.

meanwhile they collect blood x fur and other samples during the visit. the most important clues will likely be inside the dog's bodies. brennan mackenzie is a veterinarian in los altos jievment we suspect in breeds disposable to cancers there are genetic risk factors. one of the goals is to identify those in this breed. >> if researchers can identify genetic markers it could provide a breakthrough for the entire breed. john is the ceo of the morris animal foundation. >> maybe we will find a genetic link that unlike the human population you can breed those out of the population. >> it is so important to me that maybe the 3,000 of us participants can help find a cure. >> that's the breakthrough pam kennedy and pam are hoping for so they can eliminate a hidden killer from the breed they love so much. abc7 news.
