of our times. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm ama discriminates in for kristen sze. >> since presidential election there's been tense moments involving people who voted against president-elect donald trump and those who voted against him. >> a iranian woman was insulted while traveling on b.a.r.t. and lyanne melendez spoke to her. >> reporter: the young woman we're talking about arrived in the san francisco bay area about nine years ago. she is a u.s. citizen. last night she left san francisco on b.a.r.t. she was headed home when she was verbally attacked. afraid of being harassed again this young woman requested we not show her face. we'll refer to her only as yvette. >> i was terrified. when i was talking to her, i -- i tried to keep like be calm. >> reporter: yvette had been on the phone with her father and had asked him in asyrian, her native language to pick her up

from the b.a.r.t. station. that's when the insults began and yvette used her cell phone to record them. >> you are really breaking the law right now over what you're doing. >> yvette tried to reason with her. >> i'm not doing anything. i'm the even saying anything to you. you just need to stop. >> this woman is a stalker from the middle east. she's got middle eastern terrorists and is terrorizing citizens like me and she will probably get deported. >> hat that point other passengers came to her defense and called police. yvette isn't sure if any of that rage was sparked by the results of the election. >> to be honest i don't know. i can't say that i don't know where she's coming grmpt i don't know what was going hon in her mind. maybe she was having a rough day. >> a similar incident happened to this "new york times" reporter who was based in phoenix. she tweeted about it and so did "the times." she was talk on the phone in spanish when an older man approached santos. we skyped with her.

>> when i hung up the phone he looked at me and he said very angrily speak english. i speak four languages which is true, and then he -- he cursed at me. >> with all the anti-immigration rhetoric santos told us she knew it was only a matter of time before this would happen to her. lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. police at san jose state university are looking for the man who told a student to, quote, go back to his own country before trying to kick him. it happened today inside the engineering building. police describe the man as a transient. tonight law enforcement is getting ready just in case there is a fourth night of election protests in oakland. the last three nights have seen thousands of protesters take to the streets, as you know. dozens of people have been arrested, including 30 wednesday night. the protesters left behind just a trail of destruction. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is live in oakland with a look at the damage and, laura,

the cleanup. >> well, hi, dan, what a difference a day makes. last night at this time we saw protesters and police officers gathering by the dozens here near the plaza. tonight maybe a dozen protesters here at corner of 14th and broadway and perhaps a sign that this movement is evolving. >> reporter: though not nearly as the night before. thursday's protests in downtown oakland still left their mark. this shop had its front doors and cameras shattered. >> we have footage at 10:31, a lone vandal with a sharp hammer-type instrument that hit the windows. >> reporter: auto row was also hard hit. windows smashed at the mercedes and audi dealerships where bricks were the weapon of choice. >> nobody got hurt. we're happy about that, and we wish people would have a more

peaceful way to demonstrate here in oakland. >> reporter: the mayor says her police department is doing what they can to prevent vandalism without increasing tensions. >> it is so infuriating that a small group of cowardly vandals are using peaceful protests to shield their acts of destruction. >> you cannot blame the people that called for the action for people that did after the action was over. >> reporter: the protest organizer told us her group plans to move away from demonstrations like these in the coming days. >> our energy now is focused on funneling people's passion into more strategic targeted organizing. we're planning a town hall. >> hi. >> reporter: standing in front of city hall, sarah decided this is the kind of action that's needed. >> just trying to spread positivity and trying to bring people together instead of creating a deeper divide. >> laura anthony, abc 7 news. some students in san francisco gathered at city hall

today for a protest. abc 7 news was there as about 100 teenagers gathered. they marched here from the mission district. the crowd chanted sang and talked in what was a peaceful demonstration. >> in san jose one person is dead and another hurt after a car crushed into a credit unions. abc 1 news reporter elissa harrington is live where this accident happened. >> reporter: dan, for the second day in a rosanne jose police responded to a deadly car crash that killed a person who was not even in a vehicle. in this case it was a painter inside this credit unions who was hired to do work on this building. a tow truck pulls an suv out of the alliance credit unions on san jose's kirtner avenue. the driver collided with another car and slammed into the front doors of the building. the entire vehicle ended up inside surrounded by broken glass. >> the entire vehicle entered into the building, so the entire thing is inside and struck a

wall on the inside of the bank itself. and that's it. it appears to have broken through a glass entryway. >> there were no customers inside but some painters were hired to do some work on the billing. police say an suv and prius collided and the suv veered off the road and hit two of those painters. one of the men died and the other was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. co-workers and credit unions employees comforted each other. >> they worked together for a while and all knew each other very well and they are having a tough time. >> video from sky 7 shows investigators at the scene and police say one car was traveling westbound on kirtner avenue and approaching little orchard street and the other driver was making a right from little orchard on to kirtner when they crashed. drivers are cooperating. a credit unions employee says the crash wants captured on surveillance vam race and that has been handed over to police.

elissa harrington, abc 7 news. two people in vallejo are looking for a new place to live after a three-alarm fire. the flames gutted the three-story victorian on sutter street just after 11:00 this morning. the cause and or gin of the fire have not been determined. this is a composite sketch of a man who exposed himself. he asked her for directions as she walked down morse avenue and when she approached the car he exposed himself. the man was driving a dark or metallic newer model suv. san jose councilman ashe kalra has become the first indian and opponent madison nguyen conceded defeat. >> this is the community in which i've grown up and to have the opportunity to represent it is beyond an honor.

it's really hard to describe in words >> santa clara county election results posted this morning show kalra with a five percentage point lead over nguyen with 68% of the ballots counted. two californians have been named to president-elect trump's transition team. congressman devon nunez and silicon valley venture capitalist peter thiel who will vet presidential appointments and help decide which campaign proposals get priority. he spoke at the republican convention in july. he hasn't ruled out a formal position in the incoming administration. vice president-elect mike pence is leading the transition team taking over for new jersey governor chris christie. president-elect donald trump will be the focus of abc's "20/20" tonight. former "apprentice" omarosa says being close to trump has affected her relationships. >> and i will never forget the people who turned their backs on me when all i was trying to do

>> on this veterans day the south bay started honoring its veterans early in milipitas and in san jose today it became an early thanksgiving for more than 500 veterans. abc 7 news reporter david louie introduces you to one grateful vet. >> july 23rd i was homeless and today i'm housed. >> reporter: nothing more symbolic than veterans day to see this 12-year army vet holding keys to a unit at this apartment building. he heel move in next week. >> this is just the beginning because now the real journey begins. staying focused and going to school and continue working. >> reporter: he's the 510th homeless vet in santa clara county to get housing one year after san jose and the county launched a program called all the way home. some of the landlords renting to vets are vets themselves. >> i'm doing this because i am my brother's keep ker and i'm a member of the armed forces and i think it's something that i had the opportunity and i've been blessed so why not share that blessing. >> reporter: this is the studio apartment watts has rented to a

vet. while the number 510 is an impressive figure you have to put things in perspective. there's still more than 6,000 part-time who are homeless who are not veterans living in santa clara county. >> reporter: mayor sim lick yardo believes this will lead to a wider program. the vets' challenge after placement still isn't over. >> every month there's more veterans being pushed out on the street because of high housing costs so this will be an effort that we'll have to continue to pursue. >> reporter: even the president of the board of supervisors has rented out a room. >> not entirely magnanimous. you rent to a vet and you get rent. there's so many people who have four or five bedroom houses here in the suburbs and san jose and silicon valley that could easily rent one of their rooms to a veteran. >> in san jose, abc 7 news. santa clara's ministry held a ceremony including a

wreath-laying. it honored armistice days for all who served their country in peace and war. the movies at the veterans film festivals are made by veterans and deal with post-traumatic distress and families. it runs through thursday at the main library. in petaluma it seemed like everyone was celebrating veterans day. abc 1 news reporter wayne freedman shows us petaluma's beloved dev figures. >> definitely an old school demonstration of taking to the streets and for that matter respecting your elders. >> 91 next month. >> 91. >> i'll 93. >> i'm 94 in january. >> i'm 100 years old. >> the guests of honor for a community to turned out with tears in their eyes. >> they sacrificed so much to have our freedom and they are just never recognized enough. >> reporter: yes, it's veterans

day once again in petaluma where 32 miles north of san francisco and 42 north of oakland and after weeks of angst about the country's future petaluma honored those who served the country in the past. it may have been a better world there. you didn't have the internet. >> i hope no. you've got that right. i used to stand up on the hill and yodel. >> reporter: this year the parade has grown to 200 different entries. 1,700 people writing, walking, marching, being cheered through theet? . among them. sonoma county. last known living survivor. his nephewses love and honor him as they would his since passed father. larry doesn't talk much about it. >> no, because he has too many bad memories.

importance of volunteers and i mentioned that earlier from morgan stanley wealth management and joining me now is one of the volunteers and the branch manager. you've been doing this for how long now? >> we've been doing this now for 15 years, giving money and our time and it's really building. we really would like to stop childhood hung irin steal. we think it's so important. >> easy for to us forget we live in this very affluent area, that there's such a need to be met and you and your group have been meeting that need for a long, long time. >> that's correct. >> i think there's one in three children in this area that go to bed hungry, and, you know, we're just want to, you know, give back. >> want to put an end to that. >> yes. >> you can help us put an end to hunger here in the bay area by texting the word feed to 80077. that means a $10 donation and that will help hey lot. back to the studio.

here's a spectacular view. the sun habs set from our east bay hills camera. seeing a little bit of sliver of color there as we look across the bay. low to mid-60s from san jose to oakland. gilroy 164 degrees from our mt. tam cam. clouds stacked up and the breeze is in. it's in the 60s from santa rosa to livermore and the cloud cover continues to increase. sports in the north bay and a chance of rain middle of next week. tomorrow morning if you have an early engagement you do expect some slick roadways in the north bay but you notice a little bit of green that does show up. it's right around the north bay and the rest you in the east bay, san francisco south bay and dry. 50s to start off the morning. hour by hour look at 11:00 and could see a little bit of drizzle or sprinkle activity and notice at 4:00 a.m. just some spotty areas of dampness and then that's it. the rest you looking at cloud cover and by later in the

afternoon you'll be seeing quite a bit of sunniness. temperatures -- closer to today but a little bit cooler. we have a super moon at 3 t. 22 to be precise on monday. the clowest point to earth since 1942 and will appear bright and bigger. the next time you get this opportunity, believe it or not, will be 2034. the next time it's this close so you'll want to check out the super moon and you can send us your pictures #abc7now. storm impact scale, a 1, light rain expected about .1 to .4 offin inch and breezy in spots. there's a possibility that there could be a slight chance of thunder on sunday. a 1 on the storm impact scale and tuesday night north of the bay area until late and going into the wee hours of wednesday morning the rain spreads. the time line will change but this is just in a quick preview

of what's to come. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast and you'll notice the morning drizzle in the north bay and the rest of you are dry for a saturday. temperatures in the afternoon low 60s to low 70s and slight bumpup in the numbers sunday. it is a little bit sunnier and that carries over into monday before we bring in some rain late hat night tuesday night into wednesday. it's a 1. biggest change you'll notice besides the rain is when you go from 72 it on tuesday to have 60 degrees for your warmest spot. it's going to be chill. mid-50s hey long the coastline so it's a cooler system. colder system and it will switch up our pattern. i know a lot of people on social media, dan and ama, are saying i'm ready for the cooler air. >> yes, thanks.
