creek fenway park perkily where two people were wounded in a shooting. it happened just after 3:00 this afternoon at the park's basketball court. >> a witness says about 20 teenagers got into a fight. three gunshots were fired and everyone scattered. police are now searching for evidence and a suspect. and an east bay high school principal is speaking out tonight against allegations from a police chief that the principal was an active participant, and even incited a dis-richt student protest last week. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is live in pittsburgh with more this. all stems from last night's walkout. >> reporter: there's a school board meeting set here at 6:30 and the police chief from neighboring antioch says he does plan to be here and give an earful to the board members here about what he thinks was inappropriate behavior by a high school principal. meantime the district here is standing behind that principal. >> one of our officers actually observed the school principal. witmire actually involved in the protest. >> reporter: did you participate in the protest?

>> i did not. >> reporter: the police chief says it's one thing to have hundreds of students marching. it's another when it appears the school principal is right there with them and in cantando eviews crossing the line. >> mouthing with the students what they were saying, expletives towards president-elect trump. >> reporter: but this high school principal said he was there when a couple hundred students turned a lunchtime rally into a walkout last thursday but only to keep them safe. >> and if i'm expecting them to act a certain way then i need to act that way as well and absolutely not use of profanity and the use of any type of language or any type of emotions that would encourage them. >> reporter: students marched four miles from pittsburgh to apt yok high school. along the way the win codoe was shattered and garbage cans were thrown over and one student threw an orange at an antioch police officer. >> i believe the actions of this principal can be easily construed as he condoned their behavior and condoned the

truancy. >> reporter: from everything that we've looked at i support the principal and all the staff's actions that they did to really step in and mitigate that situation. >> reporter: three students were arrested and dozens more are being arrested by the school district, including suspensions. in pittsburgh, laura anthony, abc 7 news. tonight the berkeley school district is facing a class action lawsuit claiming the district is guilty of racial discrimination. the lawsuit says middle school students were interrogated by their activities without their parent's knowledge. the schools said we've not had ample opportunity to review the suit and cannot comment comment on it at this time. the stewart will be presented to the school board at a meeting tonight. >> was "ks" at a church in the south bay, a hateful note left on a windshield near a hiking trail. immigrants say they are feeling backlash from political tension. abc 7 news reporter leslie

brinkley is live in san jose. >> reporter: immigrants go home seems to be message of several recent incidents including swastikas showing up on the windows at this taiwanese church. two days before the election swaz kaz were etched in glass at this taiwanese community center. police checked out surveillance video but no arrests. >> whoever put that on i cannot fat yom what the thought going through that, but, of course, that sign over there indicates some of the hate. >> reporter: church members have been told go home we don't want you here while out in public and it's also happening at this islamic school next door where women wearing head scarves are said they aren't welcome when out at local grocery stores or the mall. >> it's scary, you know, to the behavior because you're wearing a head scarf. >> the election has divided

people into two poles and given courage on both sides the abilitying to a little more violent. >> reporter: at the trail peak on mission head on monday, a woman who went hiking wearing a bandana returned to find her car window smashed and a profan-laced note on the windshield saying this is our country now. get out. she actually covers her head to protect her scalp due to a health condition. her friend tweeted about if. >> shocking to see someone american born, grew up in the community wearing a bandana be mistaken forks you know, a hijab, which is kind of ignorant and also, you know, get out of our country, you know. whose country is it, right? i mean, this is all of our country. this is what is makes america great. >> i forgive whoever did this. it's okay, but i do not -- i do not condone it. >> in fremont, i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >> tonight officers have arrested a man accused of trying to set a san francisco police car on fire earlier this week. authorities say the man walked

up to a police car tuesday afternoon on market street near the westfield mall and lit the back seat on fire. the officers were on foo patrol and left car unattended. the fire did not significantly damage the police car. berkeley students are being given the option of leaving the class tout by a professor accused of sexually harassing a graduate student. university officials announced today anyone who does not want to remain in the history city planning course today by nazar alsayyad who is accused of harassing eva fisher for five years rp he's barred from teaching next messer is. >> university of california students may be looking at a tiegs hike, the first jump since 2011, all depending, of course, on what regents decide. lieian melendez say why some say it's time to raise fees.

♪ >> reporter: cal football plays stanford this weekend. the last thing on the mind of students is a possible tuition hike, but discussions have begun on next year's budget for the entire uc system prompting talks about maybe increasing tuition, something this student came to oppose. >> getting asked the state to fund high education and the reality is state support has declined in recent years. in 2000. the state funded the cost of funding an in state student and last year it was 41% and following the recession governor jerry brown and uc president janet napolitano agreed there would be no tuition hikes. in the meantime, brown asked that uc reduced spending, accept more out-of-state students and consider implementing more online courses and look into three-year degrees. all with the intention of

cutting down costs. after years of telling the ucs to live within your mean, governor brown is now saying it would be reasonable to ask for a tuition hike next year. >> if needed there could be a very minimal tuition increase that would be roughly paid pegged to the rate of inflation and in the case of uc that would be about $300. >> reporter: for the uc to maintain the same level of service they kind of need to increase the tuition. >> so expensive, especially for off campus housing. >> reporter: uc says for most students financial aid will absorb that increase. >> even if there were to be a fee increase, 65% of our students would be covered. >> reporter: today the basic tuition and fees is a little more than $12,a year. autoc berkly, lieian melendez, abc 7 news. >> the university of california is preparing to help undocumented students who could be deported once donald trump becomes president. at today's uc regents meeting, uc president janet napolitano said she will convene a special

task force to offer legal aid to d.r.e.a.m.ers, students brought illegally into the u.s. as mino minors. >> we take this very seriously and we want to make sure we do everything we can to make sure their stay at the university is not disrupted. >> students want schools to become sanctuary campusesch the university of california is taking a wait and see approach. senator dianne feinstein will be front and center over the upcoming fight over president-elect donald trump's supreme court nominee. the california law enforcement becomes the highest ranking democrat on the senate judiciary committee in the new congress. confirming a new attorney general and a new supreme court justice will be at the top of the committee's agenda. it's the end of the line for the senate intelligence committee where feinstein has been the top democrat since 2009. she will move on from that post. house minority leader nancy

pelosi has launched her bid to lead the democrats in the next congress. in a letter to all house democrats, she says she has the support of more than two-thirds of the caucus. pelosi pushed back the leadership vote until after thanksgiving break following an outcry from younger members who are pushing for some change now. she will meet with vice president-elect mike pence in washington tomorrow. >> massachusetts senator elizabeth warren tweeted out this picture of her and california's newest senator kamala hafrmts warren says she, quote, brought a longtime friend and my new colleague by the office today. san francisco district attorney senate majoritior george gascon has been named as a possible successor to kamala harris as attorney general. gascon is also a former police chief. in a letter today the police officer's unions in san francisco and los angeles urged governor brown not to appoint george gascon to the position. they call him a failed prosecutor who has a terrible relationship with law enforcement. gascon's office says they have no comment on the letter.

a lower court in july upheld had the environmental impact report clearing the way for construction of the massive venue. it was an important victory not only for the warriors organization but for the city, the mayor and supervisor and ucsf have already endorsed the project. the alliance had filed a lawsuit claiming the arena would have a devastating impact on traffic and the environment. lawyer susan brand represents alliance. >> there's no analysis of any kind of how this gridlock traffic will affect the development of mission bay south. there are statements that say in a number of places here don't worry there's no problem. >> attorneys from the arena project defensed the environmental impact report saying the development would not increase the risk to the environment or impede traffic. >> they would not have any kind of unsafe access and would not block emergency access to the

hospital and as a result ucsf supported the project. >> the justices have 90 days to provide their opinion. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> two victims of identity theft were mistakenly named as suspects in a case. this all began sunday with the report of a suspicious position on torwood lane in los altos. police accused two people of stealing mail and then yesterday they released a press release including the suspect's name and included a photograph which we aired. police say the two were misidentified and are actually the victims with no involved in the stolen mail case. con artists are ramping up efforts as winter approaches scaring victims into thinking their heat will be cut off. here's how it works. scammers call victims and threaten to cut off their service immediately claiming they owe back payments on their utility bills. the callers demand payment by credit, debit or gift cards.

pg&e says they give at least 48 hours notice to delinquent customers. >> we would never do something like this. if you ever get a call of that kind. know it's a scam and know you can call pg&e to verify. >> remember, pg&e never demands payment by gift card and if you do get such a demand the fcc wants to you report it. yet, another automobile recall tonight. this time mazza is bringing back 70,000 cars for potential fuel leaks. 2004 to 2008, a seal can leak and maybe cause a fire. the company has known the reported any injuries due to the defect. dealers will replace the problem free of charge. we've heard of exploding hover boards and smartphones but the potential dangers don't stop there. >> you're basically playing russian roulette.

>> meantime, meteorologist sandhya patel is here with your accuweather forecast. a little achilier today, sandhya. >> i can feel it. >> absolutely, dan and kristen. it's definitely going to be even achilier tomorrow morning than it was today. today's temperatures upper 50s to the mid-60s around the bay area. live doppler 7 right now tracking clear skies except for a couple of clouds around. in the sierra it's the snow. no chain restrictions at this hour, but it's certainly a cold enough system to produce the snow showers. look at the winds gusting to 29 at sfo. this will hold temperatures up briefly. by morning those numbers are going to tank, especially in the north bay where a frost advisory is starting at 3:00 a.m. and it's the first frost of the season. we're expecting temperatures to dip down near freezing and make sure you protect your pets and plants. a lovely cue and here's a look at the temperatures. already cool outside from san francisco to mountianview, a live look from our emeriville

sunday so it's going to be wet and windy on saturday. here's the storm impact scale. a 2, a moderate strength storm coming in for saturday. heaviest rain and strongest winds in the morning and then the rain will spread as we head into the afternoon. hour by hour forecast friday night, rain still north of us and north bay is getting wet. 10:00 a.m., it's spreading across the rest of the bay area and it's pretty much a sewing saturday afternoon. by evening the rain switches to showers. another batch of rain coming through here on sunday and then it eases up and turns into scattered shower activity. the winds will be going strong at times ahead of the storm, so we're talking close 40-mile-per-hour winds at 9:00 a.m. saturday along the coastline and then the winds will ease up but this could take down some trees isolated in future. download the abc 7 news a to help track the storm. rainfall totals to an inch to half han inch in the south bay. it's a gold morning ahead. frost is expected in spots.

oxford dictionary editors have chosen their word of the year, post-truth, a term sometimes used to describe the current political climate. oxford editors say use of the term jumped 2000% in the last
