choices. school officials and students in danville are vowing to fight racism after a message of hate was discovered in a high school bathroom. this picture shows the graffiti scrawled above two urinals. >> reporter: the adults at the student assembly were pretty upset about the racist grafitti found in one of the boy's bathrooms. >> this is danville, california, 21st century. this is not the old south, 1950s. >> reporter: it was the students spontaneously deciding to speak who turned this talking to into an emotional peer to peer discussion. >> i don't have the words to describe my feelings. i do agree we need to prove we're better than this. >> reporter: here is a picture. someone wrote whites in the bathroom and an offensive word for african-americans with an arrow pointing to the white. >> oh, my god.

really. >> reporter: reshwe showed the picture to some parents. >> i'm really surprised. >> that's unacceptable. >> reporter: the principal called all 2400 students together to talk about it first thing this morning. teachers provided stories of the segregated south and inspiring words about doing better and the students took over and demanded this never happened again. >> with everything that's happening in the world together, i think it's important that we're kind to each other. that we realize we're all humans. >> reporter: about 100 students ended up speaking. the assembly lasted an hour and a half when the principal finally had to cut it off. he called the morning very powerful. racially motivated attacks appear to be on the rise in the days following the election. the question is what should you do? how experts say you can help

deflect the harassment. that's coming up. today's question is was it cold enough for you this morning. let's take a look at some out of our colder locations in the bay area. we had a low this morning of 33 degrees in napa. san jose temperature dropped to 42. 46 was the low in san francisco and 41 in mountain view. it's going to be cold again tonight overnight with the frost advisory for much of the north bay area. look for lows ranging from 32 to 36 degrees. the coldest time will be between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. looking area wide lows will be mainly in the mid to upper 30s. overnight in inland valleys. we'll have milder weather tomorrow afternoon and a weekend storm is coming in. it's going to be a pretty vigorous one. that's how it looks right now. we're ranking it two on the storm impact scale. i'll give you a closer look at the storm and its components, coming up.

thank you smouo much. two innocent people were injured when a car escaping from a shoot out crashed head on. police say the nissan was involved in a shooting. it went the wrong way on on dowling kbldowl ing boulevard and slammed into a prius. police found the gunshot victim in the nissan fp driver didn't appear to be shot. abc 7 news has learned a 20-year-old gang member has been arrested for shooting at two son jose police officers last night. the two officers weren't hurt. the police officers association called it an assassination attempt. police arrested a 40-year-old man who is accused of having sex with a girl younger than 14. now they are worried there may be more victims. authorities say ian teager posed as a 14-year-old boy online and

arranged to meet the girl on november 4th. he met her at her home and drove her to a motel. he was arrested that night. a fire burned two apartments in san jose. >> it may have started when somebody threw something into the window. >> abc 7 news reporter is live in san jose with the latest. >> reporter: the fire gutted two bottom units and a third apartment upstairs was also damaged. you can see fencing has been put up. there are restoration crews here. boarding up doors and windows and we have seen one family walk in and out of their home grabbing furniture, clothing, whatever they can save. firefighters are investigating the possibility this fire was set intentionally. it was an emotional morning at the pardon apartments. a fire tore threw ten units.

the firefighter started in this man's downstairs apartment inside a bedroom. he live there had with children. they all got out. neighbor raced home from work to save her dog. >> he was in the bathroom shaking. all scared. >> reporter: firefighters were called to the complex on seven trees boulevard around 7:30. cell phone video shows flames bursting out of the doors and windows. a boy told abc 7 news someone threw a fire ball. >> i have heard those same rumors. i can't confirm anything. all i can tell you is the investigators are working on it. >> reporter: the idea that someone would target family has neighbors concerned. >> who did it and why would they do it. what's their motive. >> reporter: ricky lives in one of the damages units. firefighters had to rescue him and their brother. they found themselves trapped on the upper balcony. >> you see all the smoke. the flames were coming out. my brother woke me up. he said the fire was so high he

couldn't go out the door. >> reporter: one firefighter had to be hospitalized. the red cross and the apartment management are making arrangements to get housing for those families that can't go home. a power outage make for a tough morning. pg&e emergency response team worked to fix a sagging power line. the lights went out at 7:30. 26,000 customers were left without power. power was restored just before 10:00 a.m. a big move today with major implications for both the as and the raiders. athletics own is stepping aside after years of frustration. i remember seeing lou back in 20 2005. he first took over in the 60s. had so much hope on the horizon. he failed to get new stadiums

people say they knew this would happen to them someday but when it does they say they weren't prepared. now, some are taking a different approach. freemont is home to the largest population of afghan americans. the overwhelming majority are muslims. yelp has a page that ranks the best ten mosques in fremont. there's no denies that the election of donald trump has sent a wave of concern here. >> everyone, i'm a little bit scared. >> reporter: because not everyone is the same, she's a bit scared. this week a hiker in fremont wearing a scarf to protect her from the sun had her car window broken into. they mistook her for muslim and left a hate note. the police say since the election there's been no other hate crimes related. the council on american islamic relations fears people are just not coming forward. >> a lot of people are encounter

these hate incidents but not reporting it. you see it on social media but they haven't been reported to police. whatever reported cases we're getting, the assumption is there's far more things that are happening. >> reporter: some of the these nonprofits are now telling people to take a different approach when confronted by someone who is hostile. this cartoon by a french illustrator has gone viral. it shows someone being harassed on train and another passenger to come talk to her. >> start a conversation with them. >> reporter: it means doing the unexpected. the california corrections department is standing by its decision to send home an employee for wearing a t-shirt supporting donald trump. leo sanchez says he was sent home from the california medical facility for wearing this trump is my president t-shirt. he's worked as librarian at the facility which is a medical and

psychiatrist state prison for men. he's worked there for nine years. >> i just expressed an opinion. he won, fair and square. it's time to get everyone to get back. >> corrections officials say the policy is very clear issuing a statement saying quote, an employee's political views is no place in a prison setting. decision to restrict such displays is reasonable, consistent with policy and protection of institutional security. the number of new accounts at wells fargo is plunging. bank officials say they were down 44% in october compared to last year. among those leaving the bay area air quality management district. the bank has faced serious backlash over revelations it opened two million unauthorized accounts. the attorney general's office has launched a criminal investigation. tesla won the backing of

create lots of well paying jobs for people without a college degree. >> it's not about protectionism. it's about let's see what we have here and remove the barriers and drive resources to help grow what's home grown. >> one company making home grown products is circa. they have been in san francisco for nearly 50 years. san francisco has some 700 manufacturing companies opinion a new report says manufacturing in this region has added six years jobs running. every year they get more than that. there's 108,000 people working in this industry in the pay area. something a lot of people didn't know. >> all right. thank you. the annual battle against sand has begun in san francisco. yes, abc 7 news was at ocean beach as dump trucks began transporting sand from the north end to the south end. crews will excavate tomsome 70, cubic yards to try to combat

erosion. the wind is going to be picking up, i think. >> it wasn't too bad today but yesterday was pretty breezy. >> it was. the breezes were gentler today. we'll get rainy and windy conditions in san francisco. >> oh. >> let's take a look live doppler. we have mainly sunny skies over the bay area right now. it's cool to mild. here is the view from our roof top camera looks out over the bay. we'll see chilly conditions once again overnight with chance of frost in the north bay valleys. it will be milder tomorrow afternoon. we have a moderate tomorrow storm coming in this weekend. uniform temperatures now. a degree or two below 60. overnight, it will be chilly once again to cold.

look for low temperatures dropping into the mid-30s up in north bay valleys. we'll see mid to upper 30s. most other inland locations even down south. we'll see mid-40s mainly right around the bay and out to the coast. high temperatures tomorrow afternoon. will range from around 60 at the coast to mid and upper 60s around the bay and inland. a bit milder than today. we got a sudden change over the weekend as moderate storm comes in. here is the storm impact scale. saturday storm ranks two on the impact scale. it will bring us heavy morning downpours, accompanied by winds gusting 20 to 30 miles an hour and we'll have afternoon showers afterthe first wave of rain. let's take a look at the wind gust animation. we'll have the strongest gusts in the early morning hours. over 30 miles an hour in some coast tallal coast talla locations.

look for the winds to tapering off to just breezy conditions. here is the rain forecast animation. starting at 9:00 tomorrow night. by midnight we'll see the first wave of rain pushing in. by 4:00 saturday morning it will be moderate. it will expand by 7:00 saturday morning. all areas will be wet by the mid-morning hours. we'll see the rain tapering off to showers or breaking up into showers for saturday night and sunday. it's going to continue to be wet right on through the weekend into early next week. rainfall totals will be mainly under an inch in most locations but up to about two and a quarter. here is the break down. saturday storm ranks two on the impact scale. a little bit weaker on sunday. we'll rank that one on the impact scale. we may have lingering showers on monday. after that mainly dry for the remainder of next week going into thursday, which is thanksgiving. if you download the nbc 7 news

opting to move to a different section with a different professor. for the second time this week uc berkeley students are protesting the policy when it comes to sexual harassment. graduate students staged a walk out during the class. >> this isn't for us so much about him in particular. it's about the larger policy that is not designed to put people on add miministrative le. >> reporter: earlier in the week students became of what has been confidential investigation. his former advisee broke her silence publicly. she says it happened from 2010 to 2014. she says she reported it to the university in march of 2016. >> four years of escalating isolation, intimidation. as the report showed a hostile work environment which then turned into sexual harassment.

>> reporter: students say they want greater transparency. >> we understand where the students are coming from but once someone name is associated with sexual harassment, their reputation is damaged for ever. there may be limits in terms of what we can see, we have to flexibility to do what we must to protect our students and that's exactly what we do. >> reporter: it's an option students say they are taking. >> we don't feel comfortable or safe in that classroom and with that professor. >> reporter: uc berkeley said the professor is not scheduled to teach next semester though that's not a punishment. a spokesperson said the university can take steps to avoid the possibility of classroom disruptions. president obama is urging donald trump to stand up to russia when it deviates from u.s. values and international norms.

bag outside the building. charged with murder are lawrence and james rackover. the son of wealthy and prominent new york city jeweler jeffrey rackover. additional charges include tampering and hindering prosecution charges. police say he was stabbed 15 times and his body was found buried in a shallow grave in this wooded area in new jersey on wednesday. >> we're taking statements from other people, collecting a lot of evidence as we go around the city speaking to different people who were there that night in the club. people who were in the apartment prior. >> reporter: police say a motive for the murder is unknown at this time. we're still waiting for more details on what exactly unfolded that night. authorities near boston are searching for two people who walked away from a violent collision between their car and commuter train. the accident happened around 10:30 last night. surveillance video shows the car going around the lowered barriers and being sheered in

half by the train. the two people inside got out. none of the passengers aboard the train was hurt. the ntsb has joined the investigation into a national gas explosion that destroyed buildings in downtown canton, illinois yesterday. the blast killed a utility worker and injured 11 others. in pennsylvania, a group of cross country runners had some unexpected competition during a race, the four legged competit r competitor. a deer sprinted right through the race and knocked over a runner. wait for it. wait for it and right there. down he goes. seconds before it happened somebody yelled watch out for the deer. that was not helpful. teammate helped the down runner to his feet. he was able to finish the race. he's bruised but otherwise okay. oh, deer. >> thanks, spencer. all right.
