shots fired. that's where it started. it ended about 100 yards from where we're standing with three people injured. when the smoke cleared, this was the scene, a smashed, bulled riddled nissan altima on one side of the street. on the other, this prius resting on top of another car. >> i heard two noise like a bang, bang. >> reporter: it was more likely the sound of two cars crashing. >> the nissan altima has multiple bullet holes and there's one adult male who is suffering from what appears to be a nonh-life threatening injury. when the firefighters got here they had to use the jaws of life. >> reporter: police don't know the make or model of the other

car involved. they hope to track down surveillance video or witnesses to help with that. meantime across the street at washington elementary school, staff immediately locked the building down. >> we put the kids in the cafeteria. >> reporter: none of the students rr staff were hurt. search for additional suspects continues while residents try to get back to normal. >> you don't want something like this to happen in your neighborhood, but it happens. also, police believe a 40-year-old man who posed as a teen to have sex with a girl committed similar crimes. investigators say ian teager contacted the girl under the age of 14 online. he drove her to an east oakland mo tell where he had sex with her. he dropped her off at school.

police arrested him at his home in patterson. police believe teager has victimized other girls in the bay area in the central valley. abc 7 news has learned the san francisco public defender is asking the city to fund a multimillion dollar initiative to protect the immigrants. >> jeff is taking a chapter from new york city's plan to protect immigrants. it's the same idea that new york implemented two years ago. he says all he's talking about is ever one's right to due proce process. president-elect trump says he will deport mms of undocumented immigrants. he will start with those who have criminal records. that could mean the lowest level offenders. >> this could be people arrested for traffic violations and minor offenses. they could very well end up in

deportation proceedings. >> reporter: he says an estimated 30,000 immigrants reside in san francisco illegally. many may become targets and he wants to be ready to defend them. abc 7 news has learned that mayor head lee met yesterday in his office with large group of immigrant service providers. that's where he presented his plan, plan to prepare for the worst. >> we're asking the city to fund about 30 to 40 attorneys, both in the public defenders office as well as in non-profit law firms. >> reporter: on monday the mayor pledged the city will protect all immigrant families here. mayor lee said the city is already funding community based lawyers helping immigrants understand their rights to become citizens. he didn't comment directly on the plan but did say there's

always the possibility of increasing raised by the federal agency i.c.e. in the coming years. >> we don't think that's going to happen, but we have to be cognizant that things of that nature might be under discussion. >> reporter: there's currently about 15,000 immigrant cases in san francisco's courts. lieutenant governor is urging leaders of california's higher education students to confirm the sanctuary status of their campuses. he said we have a moral and economic imperative to protect our student, the future work force and families california from mr. trump's stated intentions. other house democrats are calling on president obama to make a bold move on the immigration issue. they want the president to pardon about 750,000 young un undocumented immigrants known as

dreamers. >> we have an obligation to protect these young people who we ask to come forward, who did come forward, who have been vetted and who are now known to us and who are heavily traumatized. >> the lawmakers fear it would be easy to round up the deemers if mr. trump fulfills the campaign promise to do so since they provided their finger prints and relatives home addresses when they applied for protection in 2012. in san jose two families are homeless tonight. investigators are looking into reports that someone threw something into one of those apartments. >> reporter: dan, it must have been a very scary morning for the families inside their apartment when this fire broke out. restoration crews have arrived. they are boarding up windows and doors. they put up fencing. fire investigators are trying to nail down the cause.

the early morning fire destroyed two units and damaged a third leaving ten people, including children without a place to live. a boy told abc 7 news someone threw a fire ball. the idea that someone would target a family has neighbors worried. >> i don't know what's going on especially with all the hate. >> i have heard the same rumors. i can't confirm anything. all i can tell you is the investigators are working on the cause of the fire. >> reporter: the fire started in a downstairs bedroom around 7:30 in the morning. cell phone video shows flames shooting out doors and windows. neighbor raced home tr work froo save her dog. >> he was in the bathroom shaking, all scared. >> reporter: ricky lives in one of the damaged units. firefighters had to rescue him and his brother. they found themselves trapped on the upper balcony. >> we see all the shoek right there, all the flames were coming out. my brother woke me up.

he said the fire was so high he couldn't go out the door. >> reporter: one firefighter had to be hospitalized. the red cross and the apartment managementworking together to get housing for the families that can't go home. san jose police arrested gang member who is accused of shooting at two officers sunday night. the officers were not hurt. abc 7 news has learned 20-year-old luis was arrested during a car stop in the last 24 hours. he is on parole. san jose mayor says he's relieved that an arrest has been made. >> we know someone is willing to take a shot at police officers. doubly dangerous to the rest of the community. it's critically important that we made this arrest. i'm glad we got them. >> the police officers association called the shooting an assassination attempt. we have a lot more coming up as we continue the big shake up for the a's. lou wolf is out and hopes for a new stadium are in.

just in, an update on a breaking news in hayward. the alemeda sheriff's office says the suspect by a deputy has minor injuries. the suspect has been released from the hospital and is now headed to jail. our crews just arriving there now. we'll have a live report for you coming up at 6:00. a big shake up for oakland tonight. the co-owner of the a's is stepping down. that's creating a sense of optimism for the chances of a new ballpark. the team has been trying to

build one for over a decade. even abc 7 news sports director tweeted there's new hope for athletics fans. lou wolf says he thinks a new ballpark site will be announced in a few months. let's go to laura anthony with the story tonight. >> reporter: lou wolf is out of one job. dave is taking over another job. he's young. he is built a stadium with private financing and he's saying all the right things if you are an oakland a's fan. embattled a's owner lou wolf is out as managing partner amid a complete reshuffle at the top. >> i wish him well. >> reporter: chris is president of the fan group save oakland sports. >> i think a lot of a's fans are excited. he's been the focal point, a lot of frustration and anger has been focused on him. >> reporter: lew said it's been an northehonor and i thank our

francisco mayors for over four decades. getting affordable tickets to concerts can seem impossible. 7 on your side michael finney partnered with consumer reports with how to get great seats for a great price. >> reporter: she bought a ticket online to see her favorite band for hundreds of dollars. then she realized that she overpaid. >> i saw the cost was in the 50 something dollars. i was mortified. i was so angry. >> reporter: software called bot allows brokers to scoop up tickets at lightning speed and resell them online at a huge mark up. how do you avoid getting gouged? >> one thing you can do is go through the official ticket seller like ticket master and create an account. that way you won't have to log on and enter payment details during which time a bot can go in and grab your seats. >> reporter: take advantage of pre-sells through sites like

ticket crusader and look for credit card promotions which offer card holders first dibs in discounts. >> we also found that if you visit the resale sites closer to the event, ticket prices can plum et. >> reporter: consumer reports tracked prices for los angeles dodgers baseball game through sites like score big, fan xchange and seat geek. they found more than a $50 difference compared to box office price. on the day of the event, the price went down almost $80 to about $23. forget going to a concert in a group. buying fewer tickets ups your chance for success. as for sherry, she learned from her high priced mistake and plans to change how she'll buy tickets. >> i felt foolish, absolutely ridiculous for spending that much money. i'm not going to do it again. >> some good ideas there.

scientists are confirming monday's earthquake caused the seabed to rise as much as six feet. the change in landscape is causing problems for ships in the area. the 7.8 magnitude quake ruptured along six different faults. take a look at these pictures. there's three new species of the world smallest salamander. the discovery was made in the remote mountains of southern mexico. all three are considered endangered. scientists say this brings the total number of species to 29. there could be more. look at this. a siamese fighting fish has set a record. it sold for more than $1500 making it the most expensive fish of its kind. why you ask? it is pretty. the fish is blue, red and white stripes mimic thailand's flag. the fish's breeder put this video on her facebook page. the reach soared and so did the price.
