this bobbing sea of white foam is just flowing through the air, covering cars. that foam was several feet deep in some spots. it was a bizarre scene near mineta san jose international airport. wow. good afternoon. thanks for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm larry beil. that's ill advised. a massive blob of fire retardant was oozing out of aron airport hangar that started around 11:00 east of martin avenue. it came from a malfunctioning fire alarm system. look at how thick this is, how deep it is. the foam filled the entire building before spilling out on to surrounding streets. >> abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom tweeted this video of the foam earlier today and he joins us live from the scene with a

closer look. is. >> you know, we drove up on the scene and it looked like we just arrived at a giant snow storm that covered exactly one city block. in fact, fifthsers say that it's chemically similar to what would be the biggest bubble bath you've ever seen. to show you how big, here's a live look from sky 7. you can see they are cleaning up that foam that covered an entire block and in the process swallowed up some cars. >> the newest one only about a year old, it was a mechanical malfunction of the fire fighting system that's designed to filth entire system with foam to keep fire from spreading and the fire captain we spoke to says in all his years dealing with the systems he's never seen one go off accidentally. the foam reached up to ten feept high in places swallows up cars and trucks and xleechtly blocking the roadway except for a dare cyclist who say he asked police for permission before he

charged right on through. the noam is not toxic to humans but firefighters say they would not recommend this because it can irritate your eyes. it's also a hazard to fish and other delicate marine life that live in the bay and they are working very hard to get it cleaned up before the rain is washed into the bay and damaged the fragile ecosystem. >> jonathan bloom, abc news. >> how are they cleaning this all up? >> reporter: in a couple of different way tsz. the folks behind me are actually use detergent to mop up those bubbles that a lot of them have sort of blown away. they were blowing out on to the airport apron a while ago and use detergent to mop that up and the storm drains are being cleaned out by a vacuum truck crew that's actually suck the foam out of storm drains, and that crew we understand has been hired and paid for by the folks that own and operate the hangar right behind us. >> john thanks, thank you very much. you saw that foam blowing around in that video. it's a good thing it wasn't anymore windy today. >> though it was a real chilly

start to the day. we got changes in store with weather as we head into a weekend that figures to be pretty rainy. >> a live look outside at our emoryville camera and here's drew tuma with a look at our first forecast. >> reporter: am,a and dan, tracking another storm arriving late last night and first half of saturday. live doppler 7 showing it's quiet right over the immediate bay area and you notice just off the coast the next storm is gaining strength and approaching at this hour. still ranking a 2, a moderate storm on the storm impact scale. overnight tonight here's the call. we'll have the clouds arrive first and then the rain will arrive from a north to south fashion. lets talk about when that rain will arrive when you live. first in the north bay from novato, napa, fairfield, tonight between 9:00 and midnight and then arriving in the central part of the day, berkeley, redwood city, san francisco,

bu burli burlingame. you'll get wet weather from morgan hill and san joerks expecting the first drops from 4:00 to 8:00 saturday morning. we're tracking downpours with this system and very strong winds. we'll go hour by hour and plan out the weekend with the full accuweather forecast coming up. >> see you in a few minutes. federal investigators are at the site of a fatal plane crash near the half moon bay airport. >> a seng will cessna crashed into a home in moss beach around 11:20. melanie woodrow is live on airport boulevard with the late. melanie? >> reporter: ama and larry, take a look at this plane that has crashed into this house. a really scary scene. you may be able to make out the faa investigators that have now arrived on the scene. one person on this plane was killed and another we're told was airlifted to a hospital and luckily the people that live at

that house were not inside at the time. witnesses say the single-engine cessna 172 appeared to be flying low. >> we were both looking and we were like, oh, my gosh, this is going to crash and shortly after that it went straight behind the trees, landed. it was a big puff of smoke or dust and first thing we did was pull over, call 911. >> reporter: the plane crashed into a home on park avenue on the moss beach area. >> horrifying. >> reporter: abc 7 news was told the owners of the home were not at home at the time. a sheriff's office spokesperson says there were two passengers on board the plane. one was killed in the crash and the other airlifted to a hospital. >> we do not know how old they were injured and we don't know what caused the crash. >> we were shocked because we normally we see planes flying here and nothing happened like

that. >> clearly there's a risk when you live this close to a small airport. >> reporter: the sheriff's office is securing the scene for faa investigators. >> you want -- you want things to go right when you're in an airplane, for sure. >> reporter: ntsb says it's also investigating the crash. in half moon bay, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. >> good old-fashioned police work that helped nail a suspect shooting at two motorists on patrol in san jose on sunday night. politician arrested suspected gang member 20-year-old louise enrique soriano at his home in san jose. such a close call for the officers. they had no time to return fire. today police chief eddie garcia praised his officers describing soriano as a dangerous individual who should not be out in the community. >> the san jose police department is extremely confident that we have the person responsible for this

becoming a district judge over racially charged comments. the aclu and the naacp have already criticized the pick. flynn is questioned by some for his relationship on russia and as well as comments from his book "field of fight" where he wrote i don't believe all cultures are morally equivalent. >> this is a guy that's unfiltered and very much in the mold of donald trump, shoot from the hip. >> reporter: another name being tossed around former rival mitt romney. the two have been meeting this weekend in an attempt to mend fences after sharing some heated words in the past. >> you have these stiffs like had a mitt romney, the guy is a total stiff. did he let us down? this guy is a loser. >> donald trump is a phony, a fraud. his promises are as worthless as a degree from trump university. >> reporter: and trump university is back in the headlines with a settlement alleging the university was a fraud from beginning to end. under the settlement he'll be paying $25 million to more than 6,000 students of his

university. abc news, washington. >> fans are demanding refunds after kanye west went on a long political rant at a concert in san jose. west said he didn't vote and if he had he would have voted for donald trump. >> reporter: kanye west took the stage at the s.a.p. center is that right night and his music appeared to be secondary. he had something to say. >> specifically to black people, stop focusing on racism. this world is racist, okay? let's stop being distracted to focus on that as much. >> reporter: fans paid up to $160 a ticket to see kanye perform and while they did get music there were also witnesses to his opinions on the political world post-election. many people posted videos on social media. >> you're an amazing man, burks

a little tougher to find. dick's sporting goods is gearing up for a busy holiday gift season, and that means bring on more staff. >> right now we are hiring about 150 employees across five different stores here in the bay. >> reporter: dick's says it takes about a week to fully train an associate so that's cutting it close with black friday looming. across the bay at emoryville darion is a new higher at this best buy electronics store, and they want several more. >> we always want to plan for a big crowd and make sure we can provide the best service out there and there's no other experience. >> reporter: bureau of labor statistics says the bay's area unemployment rate has dipped below 4%. temp hiring agency manpower says that's making it tough to find seasonal help. >> it seems like this year the talent pool is pretty tight so we're having to pretty much do double the work right now to find the candidates that we had to last year. >> reporter: manpower says it's trying to fill more than 260

7,000 foot more than a foot. giving us the wintry feel. here locally rain saturday and sunday. quiet across the bay area, but you do notice in the corner of the screen off the coast of ukiah, that's the uptizer and the cold front sweeping through here the next 24 hours. outside to the south bay. hello, san jose. you're looking beautiful on this early evening, a live look showing we're sin, and if you do have plans in the south bay you will be dry. there will be no wet weather in the south bay at least through midnight tonight. out there right now, you can feel it was mild compared to the couple of afternoons you've had yesterday and wednesday. 64 in oakland and 36 in san francisco. we're at 68 in san jose and earlier this afternoon we were in the 70s so it felt warmer. 46 in oakland and 26 that current number in concord and all attention goes into the week. tracking two storms. the first one on saturday. still maintaining its category 2 status, a moderate storm on the storm impact scale. we're anticipating moderate to

the heavy rain really in the morning hours tapering to scattered afternoon showers but also winds will be gusting close to 50 miles per hour. so it is for that fact that we do have a wind advisory first going into effect on the coast in the north bay tonight at 10:00 in the evening and then will go into effect for the rest of the region from san francisco, oakland into san jose and fremont and palo alto and early saturday morning, 3:00 in the morning where winds could gust as high as 50 mean, i so let's go hour by hour in future weather. watch the time stamp up in the corner of the screen as the rain vansz. do have activities in the north bay this evening do take the umbrella. the rain will be with us through the evening hours. it's not until the early morning on saturday at 5:00. you do notice that the rain begins to spread south of the golden gate through san francisco, oakland and approaching san jose. it's probably not closer to 7:00, 8:00 that we do see the rain moving into the south bay and then that solid line will move out of here and into the afternoon and evening on saturday we taper to scattered showers. we'll be dodging drops for the second half of our saturday and

here's what's making headlines at 4:30. fire fighting foam poured out of an airport at mineta international airport and spilled on nearby martin avenue in santa clara this morning. investigators say a fire alarm malfunction caused this mess. it happened in a new hangar owned by signature flight support. it's not toxic but can irritate the skin and is known to cause cancer. the noam is hazardous to the environment. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow tweeted this picture from sky 7 showing a small plane that crashed into a home in half moon bay. a man and woman were inside the plane. the woman was killed. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is reporting on a new incident of racist graffiti found at a high school in the east bay. coming up what changes students at cal high school in sam ramon

are seeing in response. the mexican government is working with consuls in american city to help mexicans in this country in case president-elect trump goes forward with plans for mass deportations. lyanne melendez is live at san francisco city hall with the story. lyanne. >> reporter: you had a lot going on and first the district attorney reminding everyone that there is a hate crime hotline and the mexican government gave out a telephone number for those people concerned about what the trump presidentially will mean. all those phone numbers are on our website, abc7news.com. israel following the presidential election, mexico's secretary of foreign affairs sat down with all the consuls working in u.s. cities. these pictures were posted five days after president-elect donald trump won. >> we want to be proactive and have our people ready, considering their difference. >> reporter: mexican government is using social media along with

with a long record of practicing law without a license has been arrested again. james lopez is accused of providing improper immigration advice to as many as 1,000 people. lopez had had a business office in cambell where he would meet with clients. the sheriff's office says lopez resigned from the state bar back in 2002 and lacked clearance from the secretary of state's office. in 2008 lopez was charged with similar felonies of practicing law without a license. >> a new celebrity is joining the battle against sexual assault on college campuses. >> actress sharon stone delivered a powerful message at a symposium and kristen sze is here with more. >> reporter: larry and ama, sharon stone moved the audience today reading not from a movie script but a sexual assault survivor's letter to her attacker. >> i want to show people that one night of drinking can ruin two lives, you and me. you are the cause.

i am the effect. >> reporter: stone passionately read the letter written and read in court by the woman who was attacked as stanford last year. on monday actress amber heard did the same while accepting an award on behalf of the woman known at emily dough. former stanford swimmer was convicted and released after serving three months of a six-month jail sentence. many consider his punishment a slap on the wrist. santa clara university held this summit today to work as a community to prevent sexual assault on college campuses. >> show there are many emily doughs, many women who have not been heard, and we need to change the culture and the law. >> reporter: the law has changed in california. in september governor brown signed a bill expanding the definition of rape and imposing mandatory prison sentences. larry and ama? >> kristen, thank you. >> isis is threatening the macy's thanksgiving day parade.

new york city police have adj t adjusted security in response to the threat. that includes additional restrictions for vehicles and extra police officers on roof tops on the parade route. more information will be released tomorrow. travelers going through o'hare international airport may be in for a rough ride. hundreds of baggage handlers, cleaners and security officers employed by private contractors have voted to strike in the coming days. they are demanding better wages and working conditions. chicago's department of aviation says it does not expect travelers to be disrupted if the workers strike. well, it is a big night coming up for raiders fans. >> we'll be meeting up with oakland raider fans worldwide. >> yeah. >> and we'll have no weather issues in mexico city on monday, but here locally over the weekend, got a couple of games and they will be dodging some drops if you're attending. live doppler 7 showing you it's quiet across the immediate bay area. the next storm gathering strength. just initially approaching the coast. we still have several hours before the drops move in. let's time it out for you hour by hour on future weather. 6:00 in the evening. the rain tour north. first drops into the north bay. by 10:00 we'll see the light rain beginning to approach santa rosa. while many of us are sleeping the rain becomes wide spread. 5:00 saturday morning. that's when it begins to sink south. we're seeing downpours indicated by the yellow, vallejo and redwood city. probably not until 7:00, 8:00 in the morning we see the rain approach the south bay and as we go into the afternoon solid line of rain begins to move out. behind that line we just taper to scattered showers saturday afternoon, but if you are headed to the big game in berkly, you do want to bring the poncho.

for the last 25 years abc 7 has highlighted the efforts of our bay area food banks. >> abc 7's spengser christian is live in concord at the food bank of contra costa and solano. spencer? >> yes, larry and ama as you can see we've got lots of volunteers who are quite busy right now sorting and packing food. there's music in the background provided by dennan and doile who also provided some of the volunteers that you see working here along with the refinery of martinez and volunteers from liberty gymnastics in concord. without these volunteers we couldn't do -- they couldn't do the work at the food bank that they do. this food bank distributes 20 million plus pounds of food more than half of which is fresh produce. 97 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to food programs and this food bank provides 35,000 households with groceries to provide holiday meals. it's because of the efforts of
