covered california. it's more than jt health care. it's life care. good afternoon, everybody. thanks for joining us. i'm larry beil. >> and i'm ama daetz. we begin with another storm moving into the bay area. tonight let's take a live look in the north bay from the mt. tam camera. you can see the clouds just starting to move in. >> south to our east bay hills camera. that's a beautiful sunset. >> nice. >> early sunset, i guess. spencer christian here now with a look at when the rain is expected to start where you live. spencer? >> all right, larry. the clouds are here now and the storm will be here shortly. here's live doppler 7. you can see we have bright skies and the clouds are thickening, and here's our storm. it will be our storm. it's eureka's storm as it's moving into the northwestern corner of the state. this state will rank 1 on the storm impact scale. it will have moderate rain at times, breezy in spots and we

expect .1 of an inch of rainfall total across the bay area. rainfall starts at 6:00 and by 8:00 p.m. the storm push knees sonoma county. by 10:00 p.m. it will be moving down to virtually all of the north bay and into san francisco and on to the peninsula, and by midnight it will be slicing directly through the central part of the bay area, but by 5:00 tomorrow morning be as the rush gets under way there will certainly be wet spots on the pavement so exercise caution as you're driving at that hour, but most of the rain will have ended by then. it will be tapering off to just scattered showers. i'll give you a look at our thanksgiving day forecast in just a few minutes. ama? >> sounds good. spencer, thank you. the storm could make for hazardous travel if you're headed into the sierra for thanksgiving holiday, and this is a live look from our lake tahoe camera where you can see there is some snow there. several more inches are expected to fall starting tonight and into tomorrow. now, to get your own personal forecast where you live, download the abc 7 news app. be sure to ten able push alerts to get breaking news and weather

alerts. wall street rallied today pushing the dow above 19,000 for the first time in its 120-year history. [ applause ] stocks have done pretty well since the election two weeks ago today. all three major stock indices closed at record highs. the dow reaching 19,023 points. the nasdaq at 53868 and the s&p 500 reached 2200 points for the very first time. police have busted what they say was a brothel operating in a quiet residential neighborhood in san mateo. >> this was all going on right across the street from a high school. abc 7 news first broke the story last night. here's abc 7 news reporter vic lee with the very latest live from the scene. vic? >> reporter: well, we've actually known about this for some time, but we held the story for fear of jeopardizing the police investigation. the raid happened last night. this is the house, and right across the street you can see

serra high school. during the nighttime raid, two people were arrested inside the house here on the 400 block of 20th avenue just across the street from serra high school. one charged with operating a house of ill fame, a legal term for brothel and the other for narcotics possession. no women were in the house at the time. police say their photos and the address were posted in online ads. >> there's no family photo, no clothing belonging to anybody. just a couple of mattresses on the ground and evidence consistent with prostitution, condoms, lubricants, lingerie, things like that. undercover police had been surveilling the house for weeks before the raid and there were tips that something suspicious was happening inside. that's when abc 7 news first learned about the possibility that the rented house was a brothel. neighbors telling us as well about the suspicious activity. we saw this red light shining inside a window when there were people inside, presumably to alert johns that the house was

operating. on those nights cars would bring young women inside the home. men would come and go throughout the evening and neighbors say as many as 15 on any given day. neighbor sue loffler. >> something wasn't right. they would be texting and move down the street and parked around the corner and foot traffic again. >> reporter: police say this is a new m.o. for brothel operators. renting places in nice neighborhoods. >> we do see a trend. a lot of times they are within apartment complexes. we do occasionally see residential brothel. >> reporter: like this one, police say, which was shut down because neighbors decided not in our backyard and certainly not next to a school. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> one person's dead and another in jail, the result of a robbery and a high speed chase that started at this san francisco intersection. it all began when a muni rider was robbed getting off a bus in visitation valley, and it ended

in a horrific crash in sunnyvale. abc 7 news reporter matt keller has the details. >> reporter: lights and sirens were on as the chp chased two armed robbery suspects from san francisco down 101 just after 12:30 this morning. stop the video. that's their car, a four-door while honda civic. all right. go ahead. that's the last time you'll see it moving. here's why. it crashed and overturned at fremont avenue and el camino in sunnyvale after hitting five parked cars and a pole. before it reached here it was clocked doing more than 100 miles per hour on the highways and 70 to 80 miles per hour on the city streets. >> due to the nature of the crime, we knew we had to stop these guys before they hurt somebody, so, unfortunately, he was the one ended up getting hurt but luckily nobody else was injured in the case. >> reporter: the pass jerks an 18-year-old from san francisco, died at the scene. the driver here on the ground in handcuffs had minor injuries. the chp identified him as

19-year-old zane dotabah, also from san francisco and he was booked on several charges, including vehicular manslaughter. >> so they can't make the turn so he goes straight through here? becca jones owns the patio. the bar was still open at the time of the crash. the five damaged cars belonged to her customers and workers. jones is relieved this didn't happen an hour later at closing sglim would have been terrible probably. people would have been in their cars. >> reporter: jones says the yellow poles were put in 20 years ago who a car crashed into the bar. it looks like it worked this morning as well. in sunnyvale, matt keller, abc 7 news. happening right now, a deadly train accident in san mateo. a commuter train hit and killed a man that officials are calling a trespasser on the caltrain tracks near bellview avenue. trains are single tracking in that area while the investigation continues. san jose police a teenage girl brought pepper spray to a middle school and it caused a dozen students to feel sick. they complained of breathing problems. the firefighters happened to be

at the school at the same time for a routine safety inspection. 11 of the student returned to class after being treated at the scene. paramedics took one student to the hospital. possible cited a 13-year-old girl. she's been released to her parents. turning now to the trump transition. the president-elect says he's strongly considering a cabinet position for dr. ben carson and is now said to be backing off of his campaign pledge to go after hillary clinton. this as he tweets about finding people to run our government for the next eight years. abc news reporter lana zack hass more. >> reporter: dr. ben carson who last week said he didn't want to be considered for a cabinet position is now back in consideration. after a meeting at trump tower, the president-elect tweeted i am seriously considering dr. ben carson as the head of h.u.d. while another visitor to trump towers, rudy giuliani, declined to weigh in on his desire to be a part of the administration. >> i'm not going to discuss what i'm interested in nor what the

president-elect is thinking and mulling over. >> reporter: he did weigh in on reports that the president-elect may be backing down from his pledge to call for a criminal investigation into hillary clinton. >> there's a tradition in american politics that after you win an election you sort of put things behind you. i'd also be supportive of continuing the investigation. >> reporter: the president in this country does not have the power to decide who is under criminal investigation, one of the many topics mr. trump discussed with the "new york times" during his sit-down interview, the president-elect reportedly saying it's not something that he feels very strongly about. "the times" live tweeted their meeting with the president-elect and among the other top thanks were discussed, climate change which mr. trump says is connected to humans. the alt-right which he says to have disavowed and his many business dealings. on a related note in an irs filing, the trump charitable foundation admitted to wrongdoing in a practice called self-dealing. it is not yet clear how the irs will deal with that disclosure. abc news, washington.

a texas judge will no longer oversee citizenship swearing-in ceremonies after he told a crowd they could leave if they didn't like the new president-elect. >> he is your president, and he will be your president, and if you do not like that, you need to go to another country. >> reporter: the judge said his words were meant to be unifying and respectful of the president's office and not political. he says he didn't vote for mr. trump. thanksgiving was transformed into a less sob on in american culture. abc 7 news was at the chinese education center as these recent immigrants showed off their english. they only started learning the language a few months ago. their thanksgiving lesson included the first taste of a typical thanksgiving meal. >> one of the things that they either love or hate are our school lunches because the school lunches are very different from what they have grown up with. you can see how the kids do with

a san mateo count i couple has fouled a lawsuit against a pet smart chain. >> over the tragic death of their dog during grooming service. kristen sze is here with the details. >> ama and larry, this was henry, a 1-year-old daschund who went in for a simple nail clipping and died minutes later. today his owners filed this lawsuit asking for a jury trial

to determine punitive and other damages. this is new video released today by henry's owners. you can see henry playing with his litter mates, healthy and happy as can be. on may 15th the san mateo couple brought the three dogs to the san mateo pet smart to have their nails trimmed. when the unthinkable happened to henry. >> last image that i have of him was him in the groomer's arm and, unfortunately, bleeding profusely from his mouth. >> reporter: the groomer 38-year-old juan zarate of heyward was arrested and it was shown he was strangled and suffered two broken ribs and a punctured lung. san mateo prosecutor said the man became frustrated with henry when he was uncooperative during the service. >> who would anticipate that you would go in for a pedicure and you would die. >> reporter: henry's owners who now just have his litter mates

want to hold pet smart responsible for his death. their attorney says the lawsuit will also shed light on the chain's history of negligence. >> there were numerous consumers complaining that their pets were either seriously injured or killed while being killed at pet smart and despite having that knowledge pet smart didn't take action to correct the problem. >> reporter: in the past pet smart says it was heartbroken over the loss of henry, but today in response to the lawsuit the chain issued only one statement saying it does not comment on pending litigation. larry and ama? >> kristen, thank you. a day after the raiders played and won in mexico city, oakland mayor announced a framework is in place to build a new stadium for the raiders in her city. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony live at raiders headquarters in alameda with more. laura? >> hi, larry. well, raiders head coach jack del rio just finished up a press conference. he didn't have much to say about the stadium issue but the mayor did earlier today.

meantime, sources tell us that ronnie lott's group has between $400 million and $600 million to commit to this project. >> this is a milestone because we have reached an agreed upon framework. >> reporter: after weeks of closed-door meetings, the oakland mayor announced her city and the count reclosing in on a deal to build a new stadium for the raiders in oakland. it involves an investment group called fortress led by former raider and 49er ronnie lott. >> what's different about this is we now have a partner who has the capacity to write a check, to actually put in the private dollars necessary to make a new stadium happen. >> reporter: at the heart of the framework, how to handle the land that is home to the existing coliseum, property owned jointly by the city and alameda county. estimated value at least $150 million. >> we cannot give away public land, but we can structure deals that look at the redevelopment of it and that look at the

timing of payment. that's something that's going to be discussed >> reporter: while mayor is talking about a potential stadium deal, county supervisors are not, although several attended a closed session on the issue this morning. the oakland city council will have its closed session next tuesday with a possible vote at the council's public meeting december 13th. >> man, this is a christmas present that i've never dreamed would come true. ronnie lott, he's going to make this happen. >> reporter: in the meantime, raider owner mark davis has publicly shunned oakland's efforts, insisting he's intent on moving to las vegas which is offering $750 million in public money. in oakland, laura anthony, abc 7 news. >> as laura mentioned the looming situation over the effort to keep the raiders in oakland is owner mark davis and his willingness to move the team to vegas. the nfl will have a say in this as well. the nevada state legislature

approved $750 million in public money to help finance what would be a $2 billion domed stadium, but it's far, far from a done deal. can you see the raiders have yet to reach a deal with casino magnate sheldon adelson who will be putting up a reported $650 million and they don't even have a site picked out for a possible vegas stadium yet so still a long way to go. during the warriors road trip this week, point guard sean livingston made a stop in his hometown of peoria, illinois, an it was for a great cause. he posted this picture on twitter at his old elementary school where he donated $1 million. >> wow. >> to help build an expansion at the school. livingston considers it a passion project and said he wanted to use his influence and his resources to help people. >> well, winter walk sf is coming back to downtown san francisco for a third straight year. on friday a two-block section on stockton street between geary and ellis streets will be transformed into an area with food trucks, a gear barden and

carollers. the area of stockton street is currently closed because of construction of the central subway project. good walking weather today. >> yeah. >> but tomorrow, spencer christian, might not be as favorable. >> well, maybe by this time tomorrow, but in the early morning hours and certainly overnight tonight it will be wet outside. if you go walking tame an umbrella. clouds are thickening right now and clouds are still mainly bright across the bay area. you can see the edge of the storm that's up to our northwest at the moment and right now though this is the view from our rooftop camera looking out across the embarcadero where it's partly cloudy. rain arrives and it will be ended before the morning commute but it will be wet because there will be wet pavement lingering. showering end by mid-morning tomorrow, by mid-day, and the we'll bright and dry conditions on thanksgiving day so that's pretty good news for folks who like to get out and enjoy the holiday. here's a forecast animation starting at 6:00 this evening.

by midnight most of the rain will have swept through the north bay also, and it will be wet in the east bay and down through the peninsula and into the south bay and here in san francisco still range, and notice how quickly the rain sweeps out of here, by 6:00 tomorrow mornings after the morning commute has begun, again, we'll be left with some wet spots in the roadways but the bulk of the rain will have ended and by mid d.a. we'll be looking at mostly sunny skies. the rainfall totals will range generally from about .1 to.4 of an inch and there may be other locations that will receive a little bit more than that up in the north bay, and in the sierra, it will be snowing. winter weather advisories in effect in the sierra from 6:00 this evening noon to tomorrow and we'll see generally three to six inches of snow and slippery roads are likely and central artery delays as well. overnight tonight into the early morning hours as the rain is tapering off to showers, low temperatures will generally be in the mid to upper 40s and tomorrow's highs will range from upper 50s at the coast to low 60s just about everywhere else around the bay and inland. looking farther ead to friday,

so you'll be ready next time life happens. because it's more than just health care. it's life care. and here's what's make headlines at 4:30, a man is in jail accused of leading police on a 100-mile-an-hour chase that ended in a crash that killed his passenger. that crash happened around 12:30 this morning in sunnyvale right outside of a bar. the chp says the 19-year-old hit five parked cars and a pole before his car flipped over. his 18-year-old passenger was ejected and killed. both men were wanted for armed robbery in san francisco. come up at 5:00, the coroner identified a 4-year-old girl who was murdered in healdsberg.

wayne freedman has more information on her father accused of drowning her in a baptismal pool. on wall streete the dow crossed the 19,000 mark for the first time ever. at 5:30, a closer look at why president-elect donald trump has been good for the market so far. and the oakland unified school district is looking for a new leader. today the district announced that superintendent antoine wilson has resigned to head up the school system in washington, d.c. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez live from treasure island and this leaves both oakland and san francisco schools without superintendents. >> reporter: that's right. well, listen to this, larry. the california firm used to hire wilson two and a half years ago is now being used by the san francisco unified school district in its search for a superintendent. now oakland may or may not use the same firm called leadership associates or may hire from within. antoine wilson will now head one of the most challenging school

districts in the country, one that continues to battle with its high dropout rate. >> the tremendous opportunity to make a difference for the young people here and have a tremendous impact on young people across the country. >> reporter: past washington, d.c. chancellors include arlene ackerman who served two years before coming to san francisco unified and michelle rhee being looked at as a possible secretary for education. >> the good news is that progress is not going away. >> reporter: mayor and oakland's school boards say wilson brought his own ideas to improve schools while supporting the positive work left by other superintendents. >> we are in a very good place, perhaps the best place we've been in two decades as a district. >> reporter: as superintendent wilson worked two and a half years of his three-year contract. the teachers union says there is no legacy here. >> there have been a lot of initiatives but to the end we haven't really seen. we're going have to grade them as incomplete. >> reporter: according to a 2014 survey down by the council of

great city schools, the average urban schooluperintendent tenure is 3.1 years. now two major urban districts, oakland and san francisco, are in the market for a superintendent offering $300,000 plus salaries. >> we've got a lot to offer whoever is going to come in and take over our school district and as does oakland so i know we'll find two great people. both hope to have their leaders in place by the beginning of next school year n.oakland, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. we have developing news out of los gatos. right now 911 service is out for some customers. police say 1,700 customers who use los gatos's frontier land line services can't make a call, including to 911. everyone affected is in the blossom hill area. technicians are working to fix the problem and cellular service should work fine. if you have an emergency use your cell phone to call for help. now to the late on the devastating school bus crash in tennessee that killed five students. we're learning more about the

driver now under arrest suspected of speeding and charged with vehicular homicide. abc news reporter elizabeth hur has the details. >> reporter: new details outlined in court documents allege the driver of this mangled school bus was speeding, causing 24-year-old johnthany walker to swerve to the left and then to the right eventually crashing into a telephone poll and tree and killing five children at the scene, the youngest in kindergarten. >> just a horror story. just totally tragic scene and we saw the children, some of them, escaping through the roof hatch. >> reporter: according to school officials, 37 children from this chattanooga elementary school were on the bus. the school opened today with counselors on hand for so many still in disbelief. >> it's so sad, you know. there's no words. i have no words. >> how do you explain something like this? >> you can't.

you can't explain nothing like this. >> i actually thought about that all morning. do i want to take them to school or not? do i want them to go to school or not? and the i got them here because i felt like maybe they can explain it to it differently than i can. >> reporter: ntsb investigators from d.c. are now in tennessee to get to the bottom of this. police in the meantime revealing so far a warrant has been issued to remove the black box and video cameras from the bus for clues, and they are also awaiting blood test results from the driver. and with the investigation continuing, we are told more charges against the driver are likely. now, as for the 12 children still here at the hospital, at last check six of them remain in the intensive care unit. elizabeth hur, abc news, chattanooga, tennessee. in florida a suspected drunk driver was run over by his own truck outside a strip bar. watch the white pickup truck pull out. the driver falls out and gets run over by the truck's rear

wheempts the man somehow managed to run off the inning pickup kept going and crashed into a house across the street injuring a woman inside. that driver turned himself in a few days later. >> wow. today dozens of federal inmates found out about an early holiday gift. president obama prison sentences for some who were convicted of nonviolent drug offenses. keeping them in jail for decades is not in the best interest of taxpayers or public safety. mr. obama has commuted the sentences of 1,000 inmates, more than the last 11 presidents combined. arguably the most popular democrat in the country, aside from president obama. >> we love joe! >> reporter: that's the vice president joe biden accepting the cheers of a group of well wishers today in washington, d.c. two days after he turned 74. biden told the crowd that even

can you see it well to our northwest at the moment and at the moment we have only partly cloudy skies here over the bay area. now tomorrow morning early there will still be showers left over from the overnight rain, but by midday tomorrow we'll be looking at least at partly sunny skies and high temperatures ranging from upper 50s to low 60s. statewide conditions tomorrow and if you're thinking about traveling. fairly calm after some morning snow in the sierra and other mountainous regions and nationwide, at least across the 48 contiguous states we see no storms tomorrow that should present any significant problems for travelers, a little bit of rain reaching across the great lakes down to the mississippi valley and gulf coast. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. we'll have rain tonight and overnight with spotty morning showers and maybe wet spots for the morning commute. a dry day shaping up for thursday, thanksgiving day and we'll have periods of rain through the weekend and early next week things will start drying off again. >> all right. >> thank you so much, spencer. >> happy turkey day.

house minority leader nancy pelosi is working behind the scenes to keep her post. the san francisco democrat is proposing a greater role for junior lawmakers in congressional committees and within her leadership team. pelosi has been the chamber's top democrat since 2002 but is now being challenged in the aftermath of the election two weeks ago today. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield caught up with pelosi at an interfaith breakfast in san francisco this morning. >> reporter: house minority leader nancy pelosi was quick this morning to dismiss the attempt by representative tim ryan to take over her role. >> i have, you know, such overwhelming support. god bless him for his enthusiasm, but we're ready to move on. >> reporter: we caught up with her after this morning's interfaith thanksgiving

services group went on strike this morning. they were on 35 daily flights for amazon and 35 daily flights for shipping company dhl. the pilots are striking because they have been forced to work emergency assignmnts during contractually obligated time off. moving on to today's wellness report. despite fears to the contrary, dementia rates are actually dropping. >> and can cheese help you live longer? here's jane king. >> reporter: despite fears that dementia rates are going to explode as the population grew older, a large nationally representative survey has found the reverse. dementia is actually on the decline, and when people do get dementia, they get it at older ages. now the study in "jama" medicine theorized increased education about the disease may be one reason why. how parents relate to their children impacts both the kids' physical and mental health. in a recent study researchers compared five separate parenting styles, one in particular called poor monitoring and supervision was associated with higher levels of inflammation and overactive immune system response in the children.

the study published in the journal "brain behavior and immunity" found when parents exhibit higher levels of anger and coercive behavior that children have a weaker immune response to the meningitis vaccine. a recent study report that had eating cheese, specifically the aged kind that's in blue cheese was linked to a longer life in mammals when they tested this on mice. an austrian university study observed 800 italians and found those who ate more cheese had low pressure blood pressure, a reduced risk of cardio vascular disease and a 40% risk of heart failure. from the nasdaq, i'm jane king. here's to your health. his 1-year-old daughter in a baptismal tub made his first appearance in court today. >> abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman has the story. >> reporter: when the man appeared in court this afternoon he did so in a wheelchair shackled and confined, appearing at one point to turn towards family members and ask for forgiveness. the judge's only action was to suspend criminal proceedings pending examination by a doctor. after court only one member of family spoke with the reporters with the agreement we would nod show his face. >> i can't speak for him because i wasn't in his head. i wasn't present to witness what happened. it's a tragedy. >> reporter: neither police for the family has released a story of 4-year-old maria. today flowers surround the baptismal pool in which police say her father drowned her sunday night and all in the presence of an older brother. >> essentially charges of homicide. the second charge is related to the actions resulting in a child's death and the third count is related to the infliction of
