distraught husband reported her missing. that triggered a search, which turned up very little until yesterday when papini was found on the side of a country road. >> she was bound with restraints, but was able to summon help. from a passing motorist. >> reporter: investigators are now looking for two hispanic females who are armed with a handgun and a dark colored suv. no details yet on where papini was held or why she was abducted. family and friends in west virginia gathered to remember james means shot to death after he bumped into a man. they held marches and vigils for the 15-year-old teen. william pulliam is charged with first degree murder in means' death. his wife claimed he acted in self-defense. james was black. fbi is investigating if it was a hate crime. pulliam was not legally allowed to own a gun because of a

domestic discan turnance allegation. wildfires forcing thousands out of their homes. drought and arson being blamed for the fires. about 130 people treated for injuries caused by the flames. france is sending fire fighting planes to battle the wildfires, and crews from russia, turkey, and greece are already on the scene there. in the u.s., crews are still battling wildfires across the southeast. more than 16,000 acres have been scorched in eight states, north carolina, hardest hit. crews spent thanksgiving day trying to contain the flames, some of which have been caused by arson. investigators have arrested several people as a result of the fires. so dallas won, for a lot of my friends in dfw, they are really heiffey right now. >> heiffey. >> yeah, excited. we had a triple serving of nfl

she was just 18 years old. >> but she will always best be known for this role, carol brady, the perky mom on "the wrady bunch." >> several years ago, henderson described what she's best liked to be remembered for. >> i think probably as someone who survived for a long time in a very tough business and hopefully managed to retain a sense of humanity. that -- i think that's how i'd like to be remembered. >> by all accounts, that's how she was. >> look at her. >> most recently, henderson was on abc's "dancing with the stars" as a contestant back in 2010, and just appeared on the show's season finale just three days ago here on abc. her manager says henderson died last night surrounded by family and friends. she was 82 years old. what a beautiful lady.

>> yeah. >> she'll be missed. also from california, this story's one that i'll be following, a lot of us are watching. the mother two who went missing earlier this month is back with her family after a terrifying ordeal. >> family and friends of sherri papini had gathered for a thanksgiving day balloon release in her honor when they got word she had been released by her kidnappers. abc's kayna whitworth with what we are learning. >> reporter: a mother back with her family after a terrifying three-week abduction, and now a man hunt is underway. police say sherri was released by her captors on the side of the road 150 miles from her home. her captors still at large. >> we are very ecstatic to all right shah sherri papini has been located and has been reunited with her husband and family on this day can of thanksgiving. >> reporter: the 34-year-old found in restraints by a passing motorist. she was taken to an area hospital and treated for injuries.

>> she could drop a phone, but she'd never, in a million years, you know, not pick up her children on time that she normally would have. >> reporter: her husband, keith, reported her missing november 2 after sherri failed to pick up their children from day care, and using the find my iphone app, he found her phone on the side of the road with her hair tangled in the ear buds. a frantic search by police and friends picked up no trace of the mother of two. keith passed a polygraph test and believed his wife all along was abducted. friends and family called papini supermom and said before her abduction, she called dibs on cooking sweet potatoes, the way the kids like them, for thanksgiving. authorities working on a vague description saying they are looking for two hispanic women armed with an handgun in an suv. they're urging everyone in the area to use caution saying this investigation is far from over. kayna whitworth, abc news, los angeles. >> and i had a chance to interview the husband, mr. pini.

morning, of course, and "good morning america" will have the latest. from that shocking news to stunning developments in california where a family has a new reason to give thanks this weekend. >> it is a big surprise. mother of two vanishes without a trace while jogging three weeks ago. she's been found alive. >> we're talking about sherri papini, described as super mom who would never leave her children. >> she was kidnapped november 2, found yesterday on country roads miles from home bound with restraints. lauren lyster is in california with what we're learning now. >> reporter: kendis and adrienne, authorities revealing very few details surrounding 34-year-old sherri papini's time missing, but one thing is clear. on thanksgiving, & she and her family were reunited. after missing for 22 days, this california mother of two, sherri, turning up alive thursday morning, about 100

miles away from where she disappeared. >> she was released by her captor on a rural road. she was bound with restraints, but was able to summon help from a passing motorist. >> reporter: she was taken to the hospital for treatment and has been reunited with her husband, keith. >> you never think you'd be in a position like this. i would never wish this feeling upon anybody. >> reporter: that was 32-year-old keith papini more than a week after his wife went missing. police say he was at work november 2nd when she jogged on this rural road, a mile from their home. she was not seen again. when she didn't pick the children up from day care, keith reported her missing. he used the app find my phone to locate her cell phone, found on the side of the street, headphones attached and tangles of hair. now -- >> the investigation is far from over, and, in fact, it's a new chapter. we're confident with the

public's help, we'll make an arrest on the case. >> reporter: police say they are looking for a dark suv with two hispanic females with a handgun. the public should be cautious until a suspect is identified. kendis and adrienne. an annual family thanksgiving tradition turns deadly in kentucky. two killed, four injured as gunmen exchanged fire during a youth football event. gunshots can be heard in the video taken by a bystander. witnesses said dozens of adults and children ran for cover when the gunfire erupted. police are still searching for the suspects who fled the scene. the motive for the shooting is unclear. turning overseas, syria, a u.s. service member killed by an improvised explosive device. it's the first casualty of u.s. forces since being deployed last year. the pentagon has not revealed the name, and 300 special forces are in syria to organize an offensive against isis. yesterday was no holiday for

the pipeline protesters in north dakota. they shut down local streets thanksgiving morning, protesting the pipeline that will contaminate the water near a native american reservation there, but that the holiday symbolizing the infringement of native american rights. >> to many people, thanksgiving is a holiday to be thankful. but for many natives, especially for me, for us, you know, it's really a day of pain for a lot of natives. but we're here to pray. >> apparently jane fonda served dinner to 300 protesters. only a few arrests. protests broke up when the demonstrators learned their cars were towed. a magnitude 7.0 earthquake has rocked el salvador's pacific coast. it struck, shaking up areas across the capital city of san savlador. so far, authorities have received no reports of major injuries or damage. the quake's epicenter was about

92 miles off the southwest coast. an earlier tsunami alert lifted as you can see there. in neighboring nicaragua, it got a one-two punch. it was under alert because of hurricane otto which pounded the country with heavy rain, flooding, and landslides, and then the tremor from the strong earthquake raising concerns about tsunamis as well. we're learning new details about that suspect who ambushed an idaho police officer's car. this was caught on the officer's dash cam. we showed you yesterday the tense moments when that fugitive suddenly jumped out of the trunk and attacked the officer armed with what seemed to be a handgun. abc's eva pilgrim has the latest. >> reporter: caught on dash cam, a terrifying encounter as an idaho officer on a traffic stop fights off a fugitive hiding in the trunk of a car. >> we have to make split second difficult decisions that are life and death.

>> reporter: the video shows lewiston police officer woods stopping this car for not having a license plate. the car had just left home. jessie herald, a wanted fugitive with multiple arrest warrants was there. he asked the driver, his mother, if her son is there. >> she immediately responded with the words, to the effect of, it's a toy gun, don't shoot him. >> reporter: the officer called for backup. >> i need you here immediately. >> reporter: next, you see the trunk open. the officer springs into action. the two wrestling on the ground until backup arrives. police later determined that the firearm was, in fact, a toy gun. this video released after a particularly dangerous week for law enforcement around the country, five officers shot, two killed. herald was booked on those outstanding warrants as well as new charges for resisting arrest and aggravated assault. his mother facing charges for harboring a fugitive. eva pilgrim, abc news, new york. it was a working holiday for

the president-elect. mr. trump having thanksgiving dern at his mar-a-lago resort in florida with his family. on twitter, indicating that he is working to keep u.s. jobs that carrier corporation is planning to move to mexico. >> there is growing opposition among supporters to mitt romney as secretary of state saying mr. trump should pick someone more loyal to him personally. the current president had even lower key thanksgiving dinner with his family and friends, and he watched football, however, he did place nine phone calls to military service members who are deployed overseas. mr. obama has no public events scheduled for today as well. about 800 u.s. military personnel celebrated thanksgiving at a base just outside the iraqi city of mosul enjoying a traditional meal and took photos to send home, of course. the marines and soldiers there to assist and advice iraqi forces that are attempting to retake the country's second largest city from isis.

on a motion to help other couples seeking a dream of parenthood. >> reporter: after learning they couldn't have children, they decided to adopt, but it was a process full of hurdles and surprises and put becky on a mission to help other adoptive parents navigate the system and fulfill their dreams of having a family. >> my journey to become a mother was not what i expected it to be. i really didn't think i would have any problems getting pregnant the old-fashioned way and having a child. >> reporter: but becky can snyder-faucet and her husband, kip, did have trouble. emotionally and financially. after five rounds of ibf, three pregnancies and three miscarriages, they decided to try something else. >> we had just the amount left in the savings to cover an adoption. it just hit me how lucky i was to be making choices on my terms because an average adoption costs $40,000 in full and up front.

>> reporter: after going through the adoption of the first child, jake, becky knew she and kip wanted to help others adopt, too. >> we have to do something to help these other families become parents, and to help kids get homes because the trick of it all is if people can't afford to adopt children, what happens to these children? >> reporter: from her apartment, she launched, help us adopt, an organization in the ninth year giving financial assistance to other adoptive parents from all walks of life. >> we don't discriminate, period. family is family. you want to adopt a child? you have a valid home? come. >> reporter: and becky has a family of her own. she and kip adopted jake, who is now 10, and brook, who just turned 7.

sunshine across our nation's midsection today for black friday shoppers there, but still shopping in the northwest is dealing with snow and rain in northern california. and rain will be in the forecast across the northeast as well. dreary skies ahead nor this area and even in northern maine. we are looking at snow. as we head into the weekend, though, the eastern half of the country will be dealing with sunshine and dry conditions. it's out west where we see a potent storm system bringing in cooler temperatures as well as some welcomed rain, especially into california. from seattle down to san diego, rain this weekend and most of the rainfall right along the coastline and that rainfall is through sunday as well. back to you. >> all right, thank you, cam. get this, a california woman who disappeared earlier this month while out for a jog has been found alive and is now back home with family. sherri papini, described by friends as supermom and would never abandon their children, so when she failed to pick them up from day care november 2, her

distraught husband reported her missing. that triggered a search, which turned up very little until yesterday when papini was found on the side of a country road. >> she was bound with restraints, but was able to summon help from a passing motorist. >> reporter: investigators are now looking for two hispanic females who are armed with a handgun and a dark colored suv. no details yet on where papini was held or why she was abducted. family and friends in west virginia gathered to remember james means shot to death after he bumped into a man. they held marches and vigils for the 15-year-old teen. william pulliam is charged with first degree murder in means' death. his wife claimed he acted in self-defense. james was black. fbi is investigating if it was a hate crime. pulliam was not legally allowed to own a gun because of a domestic discan turnance allegation. wildfires forcing thousands out of their homes. drought and arson being blamed

for the fires. about 130 people treated for injuries caused by the flames. france is sending fire fighting planes to battle the wildfires, and crews from russia, turkey, and greece are already on the scene there. in the u.s., crews are still battling wildfires across the southeast. more than 16,000 acres have been scorched in eight states, north carolina, hardest hit. crews spent thanksgiving day trying to contain the flames, some of which have been caused by arson. investigators have arrested several people as a result of the fires. so dallas won, for a lot of my friends in dfw, they are really heiffey right now. >> heiffey. >> yeah, excited. we had a triple serving of nfl action on thanksgiving. detroit lions came from behind again to beat the vikings, but
