now, from abc 7, live breaking news. that breaking news is in the east bay. oakland police and firefighters are on the scene of a shooting on 39th and west streets thachlt is a block west of the macarthur bart station. you can see heavy police activity there. two men were shot and taken to the hospital. and we have just confirmed moments ago that at least one of them has died. the condition of the other has not been released. at one point officers were focused on a black acura. s and you can see the vehicle right there surrounded by several dozen evidence markers, probably for bullet casings. they're still looking for more bullet casings. 39th street is closed at this moment at west street.

you can follow us on twitter for this and other breaking stories as they happen. thank you for joining us. i'm kristen se. a truck ran off the road tumbling down the steep embankment rolling several times until it came to a stop with a mother and daughter inside. the crash happened on the transition ramp from eastbound state highway 4 to northbound highway 160 in antioch around 8:00 this morning. and sky 7 arrived on the scene shortly after emergency crews transported the mother and daughter to separate hospitals. we are told both suffered major injuries. the chp tells us a dog was also in that vehicle, but its whereabouts are unknown. n new this morning, roof of a burning building in antioch. he's expected to be okay.

this fire broke out at a complex near highway 4 shortly after 8:30 this morning. the fire also damaged a nearby apartment building. the search continues this morning for two inmates who escaped from the santa clara county jail on thanksgiving day. investigators believe they nearly captured one of them. chavez in a raid on a gilroy motel this morning. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live at the days inn with the very latest. matt. >> reporter: kristen, sheriff's investigators believe they were close, maybe minutes away from capturing this escaped inmate. but again, he slipped away. you wouldn't normally think of this days inn as a tourist spot, but for eddie ash visiting from germany, it may have been the most exciting place he's ever been. >> eight or ten police cars here and with bling, bling everywhere. they put their guns out. >> reporter: eddie witnessed a major law enforcement raid just

outside his window this morning. santa clara county sheriff's department along with gilroy police acting on several tips from the public thought they had one of the two escaped inmates trapped inside this room. three people were arrested, but chavez escaped again. nerves were rattled at the motel. >> i look out of the window and then i see all the police. i can't come here. and they see me. and i was very scared and run away into the bathroom. yeah. that was our night. >> reporter: after all the excitement died down at the days inn, another tip just before 7:00 this morning. a man in a hooded sweatshirt was driving in the area and was pulled over on monterey highway near san martin avenue, it was a false alarm, driver and passenger were let go. but tips continue to roll in after the sheriff's department offered up a $20,000 reward for the capture of rogelio chavez and campbell.

the room here at the days inn is still taped off. this is a place the sheriff's department could come back to to help in their search. right now two inmates have been on the run for almost five days. they don't want to make it six days. reporting live in gilroy, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. new at 11:00, bene sha police have arrested 33-year-old daniel lopez last night following a shooting at a bar yesterday morning. surveillance video shows the suspect pointing a gun at a bartender. at the bottom of the fifth sports bar. witnesses say he got upset when he was told they were not serving anymore. he pointed the gun at several other people on his way out and shot two men outside. at last check one of those men was in stable condition, the other has already been released from the hospital. ohio state university officials say the campus is now secure after a man went on a driving and stabbing rampage and injured nine people. the suspect has been shot dead by police. abc news reporter elizabeth herr

has the latest on this developing story. >> reporter: police and fire swarming the ohio state university campus responding to reports of an active shooter on the loose just before 10:00 a.m. the university alerting students and staff tweeting, active shooter on campus. run, hide, fight. >> there wre three gunshots. and it sounded like a handgun. >> students near the scene scrambling for cover and hiding. >> some people started running out. i was walking down 15th. people started running down 15th. people were like don't go to campus. there's an active shooter. kind of shaken up, i guess. it's like you never like think something like this is going to happen. just mind blowing. >> we are being asked to go even further. this is the second time that we've been asked to move. you can see it is a very tense situation right now. we've been told that an active shooter is possibly inside that garage. >> reporter: police set up a perimeter keeping everyone away from the building where the gunshots reportedly rang out. the s.w.a.t. team and the fbi

now on the ground as the situation unfolds. and during the incident law enforcement sources even warned parents and family members not to call students or employees on campus because a ringing phone could expose them if they were hiding. once again, shelter in place lifted at all classes on the campus have been canceled for the day. elizabeth hirr, abc news, new york. planning in wisconsin to lay out a timeline for a presidential recount. and the green party plans on filing for recount in pennsylvania as well today. former green party candidate jill stein raised more than $6 million to finance recounts in those states. they're also raising money for recount in michigan by its deadline wednesday. experts say it's very unlikely this will swing election results. a california group called the national association of voting officials sent a letter to at least four battleground states asking them to hold off on certifying election results. among them florida and north carolina. the group says it wants further

investigations after unprecedented discrepancies between exit polling and final vote counts. the future president is responding to calls for recounts on twitter. he's even throwing out accusations of voter fraud here in california. president-elect donald trump wrote, serious voter fraud in virginia, new hampshire and california, so why isn't the media reporting on this? serious bias, big problem. there's no confirmed evidence of fraud anywhere in the country. mr. trump also tweeted, millions of people voted illegally. oklahoma senator and republican james lankford responded to that. >> i have not seen any voter irregularity in the millions. there's always some on the edges, but i've not seen anything on the millions. i don't know what he was talking about on that one. >> the soon-to-be president tweeted out several messages blasting hillary clinton after her camp announced it was joining the recount efforts. well, you weren't imagining

if you felt the ground shake in san mateo county this morning. the usgs reports a magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck in pacifica along the coast at exactly 7:36. it was centered near sharp park road. we got several calls into the abc 7 newsroom about the quake, but no reports of any damage. the new workweek starts off on a soggy note in parts of the bay area. the overnight rain and drizzle has now given way to mostly clear skies of course as you can see in this beautiful live picture from our emeryville camera looking right back at the bay and san francisco and alcatraz. meteorologist mike nicco joins us with a look at the system that passed through overnight and whether we have anymore. mike. >> it's a good question. looks like it's just about over. check out live doppler 7. hard to find any radar returns outside of the mountains where we still have some snow showers there. the low clouds are fading away and so is the chance of wet weather. you can see some green there over in the mountains and over off the coast into the ocean.

to be, but deals are there so customers are responding. they like that term cyber monday. amazon expects this to be its busiest day. the amazon fulfillment center in tracy is humming right along this cyber monday, though executives say the high demand is no longer limited to a day. >> it's really become more of a deal season. so it's not just cyber monday, although cyber monday is still our busiest day of the year. there's also black friday, a lot of shopping on thanksgiving and really all through the holiday season. >> shoppers don't have to wait until monday anymore to return to their office computer and its fast internet service. they're more mobile than ever. and internet companies like amazon are responding. >> you don't have to be tied down to your computer. using the amazon app you can actually look at all of the upcoming deals for the next 24 hours and mark which ones you want to watch. >> reporter: they know you expect deliveries quicker, too. that's where these robots come in. they bring the product to an employee, not all amazon centers have them. the ones that rely on people

a california mom missing for three weeks was found alive thanksgiving morning. police are now looking for two women in connection with the mysterious case. but as abc 7's jessica castro explains, there's still a lot of

holes in that story, right, jessica? >> that's right, kristen. there's so little to go on at this point. but the shasta county sheriff told abc news they, quote, currently have no reason to disbelieve miss papini's story. 34-year-old sherri papini says she was snatched by two joggers near her california home. she was missing three weeks before she escaped. >> i saw a woman, a woman with long blonde hair by the side of the road kind of frantically waving what looked like a shirt. >> reporter: authorities say papini could only offer a vague description of her captors, telling police to look for two hispanic women armed with a handgun driving a dark suv. felony prosecutor and tv personality nancy grace on "good morning america" dismissed claims that this could be a hoax. >> but i can tell you this, i've

seen even stranger scenarios that are true. >> she's chained with a quarter inch heavy chain and -- on her wrists. >> reporter: investigators are now analyzing the restraints and papini's clothing for dna evidence. they're also investigating her past including a previous marriage and searching her online activity. they plan to interview papini again later this week hoping she can remember any clues. >> the real key is the small details she can remember. what was the room like? what did it smell like? >> authorities are also reviewing surveillance video from traffic cameras, homes and businesses between reading and woodland where papini was found. jessica castro, abc 7 news. >> jessica, thank you. a week-long good-bye to late-cuban dictator fidel castro is underway right now in the island nation. it's going to feel cooler than that. clear, calm and quite chilly tonight, temperatures up to 15 degrees cooler than they were this morning and warmer than average weekend is coming at us. now, if you're stepping out this very moment, temperatures mainly mid to upper 50s. fremont one of the cool spots in los gatos. we'll see where we end today by looking at high temperatures happen right around 1:30 to 2:00 we'll hit upper 50s to oakland even around 60 degrees. the fastest breezes will be over the ocean. as far as the lows tonight this is where it's going to get quite chilly. look at those inland temperatures. mid to upper 40s, even some upper 30s while the rest of the bay and coast is in the low to mid 40s. i mentioned that one rogue chance of some wet weather. they'll be a storm that passes us to the north and inside slider, which means it's going to hit the sierra with a couple inches of snow, but that's about it. it will leave us with a random chance of shower wednesday. so after being in the 30s and
