conference is going to begin. let's listen in from contra costa county health officials now as they tell us more about the situation. sfls what is your fame again, louise mcniett. >> we're ready for you. >> let me start by saying that we're saddened this incident occurred during what should be a festive time and our hearts go out to the families affected. on november 25th we received a concerning report from sutter delta hospital that a group of community members had become ill after attending a holiday event in antioch. right now it is unclear what the cause of the illness may be and whether it was related to the november 24th event or not. we are working with our environmental health division to determine whether this is an outbreak of food-borne illness.

environmental health followed up with the nonprofit that held the thanksgiving day event. 835 people attended on that day. sutter delta reports receiving eight patients related to this incident. all of the patients are associated with the same living facility. so it's unclear if the illness is related to the thanksgiving day event or to their living situation. we have not received reports from any other health care facilities related to this incident. at this point we do not believe that there's any risk to the general public. >> can you tell us the fame of this other living if a stilt? >> i can't give that information. it might compromise patient confidentiality. >> all right. we're going break away and bring you other news, but you can keep watching the health department's news conference on the deaths of several people who ate a thanksgiving meal at the american legion post in the east bay. you can continue to watch any more of that news conference at

abc 7 news -- on our abc 7 news app and switching out the speak their someone else is going to address the media, if you want to hear that, go to our news app. let's move on. now to today's scare in the skies over the bay area. a united plan was forced to return to sfo after mechanical problems. the plane was heading to narita, japan, when it had to turn back. abc 7 news reporter carolyn tyler is live now from san francisco international where people on the ground were the first to alert authorities that there was a problem here. carolyn. >> reporter: well, we talked to one passenger over the phone and he said it was five to ten seconds after departure that they heard loud bangs. it must have been unsettling for those aboard flight 597. the plane was forced to turn back just after takeoff around 11:30 this morning.

as you can see one of the boeing 747's engines was not working. witnesses say they saw flames shooting from it, and people who live in nearby san bruno were shaken by loud noise. >> i just heard had a plane coming over the house as i was walking out, and then i heard three booms of real loud booms. >> i was upstairs and i heard a loud -- a large boom. several times though. more than once >> reporter: plane carrying 202 passengers and 15 crew members was heading to tokyo when the mid-air mishap occurred. flight tracker indicates it circled off the coast of santa cruz for some time. devon durant, a passenger on the plane, and photographer with airline geeks shared this video of the 747. dumping fuel as it prepared to land. >> it's not too come of a thing in air travel so a lot of people were kind of concerned but the flight crude made sure to notify everyone on board. >> no comment from united officials, but we're told there

were no injuries. perhaps just anxious times in the sky. >> at sfo carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> oakland police arrested one of the city's most violent criminals after he allegedly shot at officers. police followed the man to this hayward home and the suspect barricaded himself for hours and then surrendered. minutes earlier he shot a woman in the leg and then shot at overs on route 238. investigators say the man is a known gang member who refused to participate in the cease-fire program to lead a life of crime. >> we each reached out to him on several occasions and invited him to offer resources and a way out. he refused to come to the meetings as well as continued to engage in violent crimes. >> police found this ak-47 assault-style rifle as well as this assault pistol in the house. they are checking to see if the weapons were used in other crimes. a man is accused of

molesting a 9-year-old girl on a b.a.r.t. train. it happened sunday on a train headed west towards the bay fair station. police say the man, 26-year-old marcus brown, touched the girl on her leg and buttocks. the family member stepped in and removed her from the train. police arrested the man at the coliseum station and he faces several molestation charges and is banned from b.a.r.t. for up to a year. now one. two inmates who escaped from the santa clara county jail apparently eluded authorities in gilroy. the two have been on the run since their daring escape last week and two others were caught after the jail break. they didn't get far. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live in the days inn in gilroy with the late on the story. >> reporter: rohelio chavez is the inmate police and sheriff's deputies thought was holed up here at days iron in gilroy. that was one of many, many tips the sheriff's office has received since a sheriff offered a reward.

>> and i had mention that had we had a $20,000 reward and that's generating a lot of tips. >> reporter: that's exactly what happened early this morning at the days inn just off 101 in gill roy. sheriff's deputies and gilroy police acting on tips from the public thought they cornered r ho helio chavez, one of the two escaped inmates inside the second floor room but he escaped the drag n.e.t. and just before 7 another tip. police pulled over a driver on monterrey highway south of gilroy and it was another false alarm, but at the days inn sheriff's deputies did arrest three people. they would not shay why. >> we look at csi miami, and then i heard the police. >> reporter: this german tourist and his girlfriend were watching tv when all of this went down. >> they put their guns out and go to this direction. we are very scared, and we go into the bathroom and wait.

>> this woman rented a room here because the plumbing in her home run toured. >> i was thinking oh, my gosh, i knew i should have picked the ramada. >> reporter: "good morning america" got the first look inside the cell where the four inmates escaped last week. this is where they were being housed, in an older section of the main jail south. they cut through this bar in the window and bent the surrounding bars and escaped by rappelling down bedsheets tied together. vic lee, abc 7 news. a man suspected of drowning his daughter in a baptismal pool screamed out loud in court today. the santa rosa press democrat reports gerardo mendoza ordaz was screaming in spanish why did i do it? why did i kill my daugheroubter? he drowned the girl a week ago sunday. court proceedings have been put on hold after a psychologist says ordaz was not mentally competent to stand trial. he'll undergo further

evaluation. look at this car. it completely split in two after the 18-year-old driver crashed into a tree in richmond. it happened on richmond parkway near parr boulevard around 8:30 a.m. tire marks show where the driver lost control and skidded off the roadway across the median and into the tree. he was the only one inside the car and believe it or not despite how it looks he's in serious condition tonight. >> incredible. >> richmond police blame speed and slick roads. a firefighter is expected to be okay after either falling off a roof or having some roofing materials fall on him while fighting this fire in ant yfnlgt the fire broke out in an apartment complex on san jose drive near highway 4 shortly after 8:30 this morning. flames torched two apartments and two others suffered some water damage. in the south bay, a large tree collapsed in los altos. this is a picture from the santa clara county fire department. the tree took down some power lines with it on hillview drive. it fell right after a man had gotten out of his vehicle. he was hurt but he's expected to

be okay. his truck though, a different story. it could be some time before the mess is cleaned up. hundreds of computer terminals at san francisco muni are still not working after a massive cyber attack. hackers demand thousands of dollars to unlock the computers. the transit agency has refuse and now federal investigators are involved. abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana is live at the embarcadero station. sergio. >> >> for most of the day saturday these turnstiles here were wide open and passengers could simply walk through for a free ride aboard muni trains. today the sfmta says they have managed to isolate the systems that are affected by this hack but they are trying to figure out exactly how much damage has been inflicted. the san francisco mta says they have contained this weekend's attacks and the most important systems like automated train controls were not affected. >> did not impact transit system

in richmond the city is standing on its threat to close stables that house hundred of horses. the deadline is the first week of december and the city is hoping to see progress. >> this is lover boy. >> it is a little corner of horse country in the midst of an urban area. two stables in richmond with roughly 110 horses between them and faced enclosure with nowhering to. >> it's like i'm lost for words, you know. >> brian gaither manages one of the stables and terry johns on-the-other and they say their operations ran smoothly here for 17 years until city inspectors found code violations and threatened to close these facilities december 3rd. >> they were here two years ago, code enforcement passed with flying colors. >> richmond mayor tom butt says he's tired of fielding

location somewhat familiar to her had. the style of interview is specially designed to uncover repressed memories. the sheriff says he absolutely believed her story in every way. lauren lyfter has more about the alleged abduction. >> reporter: today the hunt is on for alleged kidnappers after a missing northern california mother who law enforcement believed was held captive for three weeks was discovered along this road. >> heavily battered. >> reporter: and authorities say 34-year-old cherly papini was released by her captors early thanksgiving morning about 150 miles from home, bound with restraints and able to flag down a passion motorist. >> i saw a woman, a woman with long blond hair by the side of the road and kind of frantically waving what looked like a shirt. >> reporter: alison sutton spotting papini and calling police. >> i figured if a she was

live doppler 7 giving us the all clear. a live look from our east bay hills camera. i'll step out of the way. a gorgeous shot. we had early morning clouds giving way to late dey sunshine and the clouds continue to clear out setting the stage for a quite night on the way. the rainy season began october 1st and after this wet weekend we're in a rainfall surplus across the fwrord san jose to oakland and san francisco actually has its best start to the rainy season since 2010 and santa rosa and mountianview all above average for this time of the year. we look ahead and we're awaiting the wettest month, december, january and february typically bring you go the most rain across the region, but you take a look at the next seven days as we welcome december at the end of the week and not good news. the rain is going to move out and the storm door is going to close for the next seven days and it's all about cold mornings and sunny afternoons on the way. out there right now holding the 50s across the bore. 58 in san francisco and 55 right now in oakland and san jose is currently 56 degrees. 53 in antioch and san ramon.

the coolest spot we have on the map coming in at 48 degrees. here's the call. overnight, clouds clearing out and plenty of stars out there with light winds and that allows to us cool off rather rapidly, especially in the north bay valley. santa rosa dropping to 36 and 39 the overnight low and a chilly 46 in san francisco and 44 in both oakland and san jose and fairfield dropping to a very chilly 39 degrees. so you take a look at your day planner on your tuesday. we'll start off with clear skies. going to be a very chilly start. take a look inland in the mid-30s. in the mid-40s around the bay and the sunshine will warm us pretty quickly and by the afternoon it's a rather cool day under sunny skies with temperatures still above normal for this time of the year. take a look at highs on your tuesday. pretty similar to where we were this afternoon. you'll need that winter jacket first thing in the morning and a couple layers in the afternoon. a chilly high of 59 in san francisco and 61 for the high in oakland and 60 san jose and 59 in antioch and fairfield.
