criminal charges. other breaking news is in san francisco. that's where a 27-year-old employee with a department of public works was shot and hurt in the city's neighborhood at 7:30 a.m. at ver mobt and 25th streets. he was rushed to san francisco general hospital where he's now being treated. we have learned the victim is a father of two children. his condition is not known at this time. breaking updates on both of these stories. download the abc 7 app for free or follow us on twitter. we thank you for joining us. >> now to developing news, the santa clara sheriff just wrapped up a news conference explaining what led to the dramatic capture of the escapee from the county jail. matt keller is live in san jose with new information. >> we learned they received a tip monday that campbell was in antioch. they called the u.s. marshal's service. they surveilled the house and last night they went in and captured him. like many people in trouble, campbell turned to family for

help. the escaped inmate was captured by u.s. marshals at his sister's apartment in and ok late last night. neighbors witnessed the raid. >> kind of scary because you don't really expect that kind of stuff to happen and when you're just zuting outside and see a whole bunch of cop cars and officers in full gear. it's a little never wracking. >> reporter: campbell literally fell from the sky into the lands of law enforcement. >> upon entering the residents they determined that campbell was hiding in the attic. and campbell then crashed through the ceiling on to the floor where the marshall's service and antioch police took him into custody spout further incident. >> reporter: he was taken back and booked into the santa clara jail. his sister, 24-year-old alexander, was arrested for harboring a fugitive. campbell was not injured. he was taken back and booked into the santa clara county jail. this is his new booking photo. another woman was also arrested

earlier this week for accessory to a crime for helping the other escaped inmate chavez who is still on the loose. >> the sheriff's office will seek prosecution of anyone who harbors, aide, or assists in these escapees to the full extent of the law. >> the sheriff's office is not releasing details on the search for chavez but they do say all of these tips coming in from the public have been helpful. >> matt, thank you. happening now, hundreds of people are protesting the dakota pipeline in san francisco. it started with a prayer around 8:00 this morning and took off from there. abc 7 reporter amy holly field is live in california and montgomery. what's the latest, amy? >> well, they want you to make a statement with your banking. and that's they're here at wells fargo here in downtown. they've been visiting banks all over the downtown area this morning asking people to pull their money out as a protest against the dakota access

pipeline. they started with a prayer circle in san francisco's justin herman plaza, a long way from the pipeline they are protesting. >> because this is a way to be in solidarity with everyone out in standing rock. >> reporter: but even from here they think they can make a huge difference by hitting banks right where it counts. >> today our goal is to tell people to divest from the banks that are very incorporated and tied with the dakota access pipelines, specifically wells fargo and citi bank. >> reporter: the group convinced michael horse who is taking his money out of wells fargo today. >> trying to make people understand that if you divest you don't finance us anymore, maybe we can get on some cleaner, more sensible energy. >> where are you going to put your money? >> credit union. >> reporter: these about viss are against the dakota access pipeline because they say it treads on sacred ground and threatens the water supply. the company building the pipeline disputes those concerns. the protesters in san francisco

got their message across today in a quiet way with chanting, prayers, and a peaceful march. >> we're not trying to scare people or yell at people. we're trying to get people in a consciousness of what's going on. >> there have been no arrests. it's been a peaceful process. i just got a statement from wells fargo saying that wells fargo is one of 17 financial institutions involved in financing this pipeline and it's committed to environment a sustainability and hopes that all parties involved will work together to reach a peaceful resolution. so about a two-paragraph statement. i'll work getting it on our website if you like to see it. we're still waiting to hear back from other banks we've called. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. president-elect donald trump says he's stepping away from his billion dollar company. his stake in his business empire has raised questions over conflict of interests. mr. trump is filling up his

the national weather service is working to corn firm that tornados are to blame for killing five people in the south overnight. three people died in northern alabama, two people were killed in southern tennessee. reports are coming in that 23 tornadoes hit that region and you can see the devastation left behind. in mississippi, strong winds flipped over trucks and damaged barns. >> 18-wheeler beds and things that were actually tilted over or near tilted over. we're really lucky that nobody was hurt here tonight. you know, it could be the other way. >> with heavy rain flooding is also an issue. authorities say dozens of buildings are damaged or destroyed. now you're accuweather forecast with mike nicco. >> down in the south you can never turn your back on the weather as we transition into winter. they have another other second season.
