breaking news, a major san francisco street remains closed at this hour as police investigate a bad accident. police say a vehicle was heading downhill on divisadero when it crossed lombard and slammed into a car as it was heading westbound. the white prius suffered major damage. two people are in critical condition. >> lombard has remained closed for four hours which is a problem for commuters heading to golden gate bridge. good afternoon. thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm larry beil.

a burglary suspect tried to outrun the police. >> it happened a few hours ago near walnut avenue and guardino drive. eric thomas is live with the details. eric? >> reporter: police have done a good job of clearing and reopening this intersection which was shut down for 2 1/2 hours. debris from cars was spread all over. the suspect landed here after the violent collision. this is how the chase ended, with the suspect in handcuffs in that apartment complex where police say he tried to hide and neighbors are trying to figure out what happened. >> i was curious because i saw more and more coming and it was probably bigger than a crash. >> reporter: it was much bigger. police were chasing this toyota prius based on a 911 call. >> the resident informed our officers that they had just followed a suspect who had been in his apartment complex,

burglarizing it when he came home. >> reporter: police responded and tried to pull the car over. the driver took off and a little more than a mile away collided with this car, making a left turn at the corner of guardino and walnut. >> unfortunately, we have a victim in that vehicle who has been transported to a trauma center with major injuries. >> reporter: the debris shows the force of the impact. one wheel of the victim's car ripped away and thrown dozens of feet. the muffler went even farther. it's fortunate no one was killed. the car the suspect is driving was heavily damaged as the true owner will find out. >> this vehicle was taken last night. >> reporter: police recovered what appeared to be stolen property from the car. charges against the 21-year-old suspect are pending. in fremont, eric thomas, abc 7 news. san francisco police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a department of public works employee yesterday.

officers with the assistance of vallejo police located the man last night. they are not releasing his photo. he's accused of killing 27-year-old jermaine jackson jr. yesterday morning. smelly wo melanie woodrow will have more later. police say e sdplchzekial b entered a home and there were some people injured. a woman is being treated in san jose for exposure to hazardous materials. sky 7 spotted fire crews outside the hospital shortly after they

decontaminated and transported the woman to the hospital around 11:00. a fremont high school teacher is facing charges for alleged sexual misconduct for a male student. corine audiat has posted bail and has been released. matt keller has more. >> i've never heard of this happening. >> this is obviously a very unsettling, disturbing, emotional type of situation. it's a very difficult conversation to have. >> reporter: district officials sent a letter to all of the parents at washington high letting them know about the arrest. audiat has been a p.e. teacher here since 2012 and with the district since 2008. >> our job this morning is to bring a sense of calmness and normalcy here to the campus at washington. >> reporter: she started a relationship with male student

at the beginning of the year and escalated to a sexual relationship and was arrested on thanksgiving day on the two charges but the district attorney's office filed five more charges. >> it's bruising. it's a bruise that our community will take. we know this is an isolated event and we have amazing teachers in an amazing school district. >> reporter: audiat is on unpaid leave and will never teach at fremont or in the district again. california governor jerry brown has appointed xavi xavier becerra to be attorney general. kamala harris is the outgoing attorney general. the nomination still needs to be confirmed by state lawmakers. abc 7 news was in berkeley

canceled a show after someone was killed inside the circus' big tent. they have hired psychologists to help them deal with the tragedy. he was the father of four children and he lived in quebec, canada. and now to a coyote alert in san francisco. animals have been spotted in the neighborhood and the problem is people are treating it more like a pet than a wild animal. alyssa harrington is live with the story. alyssa? >> reporter: this coyote plays fetch and walks up to car windows looking for food. i'm told that on thanksgiving someone left a turkey dinner on this trail for the animal. this might sound nice, but people who work closely with coyotes say this behavior by humans is putting the animal at risk. she has become a neighborhood icon. the coyote regularly spotted at the park.

december tends to be a wet month with average rainfall totals ranging from just over two inches for san jose to over 4 1/2 inches in san francisco and over 7 inches in santa rosa. let's hope we hit some december norms in terms of rainfall. here's a view of the western sky from our east bay hills camera. that's stunning. love that sunset. it hasn't set yet. forecast is clear and chilly overnight. once against, mild afternoons through sunday and winter-like chill settles in. here's your friday planner. clear skies in the early morning hours. sunny through the daytime and temperatures rise into the mid-60s by the afternoon tomorrow. under sunny skies. they drop pretty sharply as our evening is under clear skies this time of year and tend to be pretty chilly. tomorrow's highs range from 60 or just above 60 at the coast to low to mid-60s across the remainder of the bay area. as we look at the three days ahead, friday and saturday, it will be pretty mild.

mid-60s near the bay and inland areas up to 60 or above on the coast. a little bit of a cool down on sunday by a couple of degrees but a much sharper cool down occurs after sunday. projected morning lows for next tuesday. temperatures are near freezing up in clear lake and cloverdale. lows in the upper 30s and other inland areas. even colder on wednesday morning as temperatures drop to almost freezing at antioch and livermore. lots of mid-30s early wednesday morning with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s right around the bay. chilly weather is on the way. accu-weather seven-day forecast. before that chilly weather arrives, december warmth and even sunday, highs -- sundays in the low 6 0s and temperatures o partly cloudy skies and a winter-like pattern in terms of sky conditions and temperatures on monday, tuesday and wednesday before we get a milder pattern developing late next week. >> if winter is in the 60s, i think we can handle it.

street after an accident hours ago, they injured four people and we've learned one of those four have died. >> let's get to cornell bernard. cornell? >> reporter: we can tell you that lombard reopened to traffic just a few minutes ago. it had been gridlocked for at least two to three hours following a terrible accident at lombard involving four cars. we have confirmed -- abc 7 has confirmed that one person died as a result of this crash. four others were injured. police say it began when a car was seen driving possibly at a high rate of speed down divisadero and crashed into cars. injuries ranging from moderate to severe. many were taken to san francisco general hospital tonight. it's unknown what kind of injuries the driver who prompted

draft. all adult men must register. a s.w.a.t. team in florida stormed a bank where an armed suspect was holding hostages this morning. jacksonville sheriff officials say the standoff lasted about two hours. they decided to send a s.w.a.t. team in after the suspect pointed his gun at the hostages. he was soon distracted when two people ran out of the bamnk and that's when they took the suspect into custody and freed the hostages and nobody was hurt. dolly parton is coming to the aid of the people affected by the tennessee wildfires. she will provide $1,000 a month to families who lost their homes in this week's fires. the singer was raised in the great smoky mountains and her dollywood theme park was threatened by the flames. >> now, we want to provide a hand up to all of those families that have lost everything in the fires and to recover we want to make sure that the dolly wood foundation provides $1,000 a month to all those families that have lost their homes in the

in facebook stock to charity. according to the website recode, the money will go to anti-poverty charities and groups focused on empowering money. she also recently renamed her foundation after her late husband, dave goldberg. a controversial substance is shown to help treat depression. >> and nestle has figured out how to cut the sugar in chocolate by as much as 40% so you can get the company an edge as food makers face consumer pressure to make their products healthier. they will start selling the products made that way in 2018. now, a panel of scientists say food labels should be rewritten. peanuts or eggs must be labeled so consumers of food allergy know to avoid them but to many people they are just confusing. it's time for regulators and the
