>> making news in america this morning, breaking overnight, security is stepped up on the los angeles transit system after a threat to a major train station. we have new details about the alleged target and phone call that kicked off the warning. searching for clues in that deadly oakland warehouse fire. a tearful vigil overnight as more victims are identified and the new pictures from inside the building before the fire. joe biden is leaving the door open for a future presidential run. hear what he told reporters about 2020. and caught on camera, a piece of ice becomes a highway hazard when it flies off a truck. good tuesday morning. i'm ryan smith in for kendis gibson. >> and i'm diane macedo. we begin with breaking news in los angeles as transit stations

there start the morning under a heightened security alert. >> the lapd and the fbi are investigating a threat against the universal city red line station, an area popular with tourists. now, officials say an anonymous tip was phoned in from overseas about some sort of detonation that was to happen today at that station. it's left many commuters shaken. >> it's scary. you never know like -- usually there's never a problem on the train. >> i know i won't be on the train tomorrow. i feel like it is a very dangerous situation and there's threats every day that aren't taken seriously and we hear about it after the fact. >> los angeles mayor eric garcetti says he does not believe the threat is credible and advises angelinos to go about their normal day and even plans to ride it today as a show of support. overnight we learned the names of ten more victims in that oakland warehouse fire all in their 20s and 30s and all from the bay area. >> just a few hours ago thousands gathered a few miles away for a vigil to remember the dead. that number is now up to 36 as

three more bodies were pulled from the debris. >> authorities don't think they'll find more victims, but they do say they can't be sure until the entire scene has been searched. meanwhile, there's talk of possible criminal charges in the case. abc's lauren lyster joins us now from oakland. lauren, what can you tell us? >> reporter: good morning, diane and ryan. you know, the efforts to try to recover any more of the missing are going on into day five in what is now the deadliest building fire in the last ten years in this country. now, dangerous conditions inside of that building have forced crews at times to stop their search, but as you can see from the heavy construction equipment behind me, they appear to be tearing down the front wall and their grim work continues. this morning investigators searching for the cause of the deadliest fire in oakland's history. the devastating blaze turning a friday night concert at this artist colony into an inferno. >> the fire went up really, really, really quickly. >> reporter: firefighters tell abc news they believe it started

on the first floor in the back of this warehouse, and new details continue to emerge about the treacherous conditions inside. these images showing the rickety staircase leading to the front door leaving virtually no way out. >> you couldn't have more than two people on that staircase before it would just fall down and it was not only dangerous, but it was disgusting. >> reporter: a building with a long history of violations, complaints about blight and people living there illegally. now a criminal probe into the tragedy. >> the range of charges could be murder all the way to involuntary manslaughter and until we know what the evidence shows us, there may be other charges if the evidence presents that. >> reporter: the community monday night mourning the dozens of victims killed. most of those identified in their 20s and 30s, one, though, just 17. other local teens grappling with the news. >> i was able to go with some friends to oakland to where it happened.

we left some candles. we wrote some messages, and i think that helped a lot. >> reporter: and this morning, even in the very early hours people have been stopping at a memorial just down the street leaving flowers standing in silence grieving those 22 victims who have been identified. diane and ryan. >> lauren lyster, live in oakland. lauren, thank you. president-elect donald trump meanwhile, is off to fayetteville, north carolina, today to personally thank thousands of supporters in a post-election rally. meanwhile, trump is expected to make more cabinet picks this week as he steps up his search for secretary of state. president-elect donald trump continues to indicate he might be open to changing his position on climate change meeting at trump tower monday with former vice president al gore. >> i've had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect. it was a sincere search for areas of common ground. >> reporter: gore also praised ivanka trump's commitment to a

climate policy that makes sense. the president-elect, who has sent mixed signals on the issue, once called it a hoax but later said he's keeping an open mind. >> i found it an extremely interesting conversation and to be continued. >> reporter: reports say trump's children are urging him to seize on the issue as a potentially defining issue for his administration. one of those children, ivanka, and husband jared kushner could be making the move to the nation's capital. sources tell abc news that the couple is exploring a possible move informally looking at homes in the area. kushner has been a top adviser to trump as the president-elect continues to work on the transition. and another one-time critic former utah governor and ambassador to china, jon huntsman has been added to the list for possible secretary of state. >> there is an expanded list. i'm on it. i'm thrilled to be on that list. >> reporter: the post is an important one as trump continues to cause controversy on the world stage upsetting china by talking to the president of taiwan, something no u.s.

president has done in more than four decades. trump is now taking calls from any foreign leaders but without any briefing from state department officials. >> i would certainly recommend it, but obviously that hasn't happened in a few cases. >> and ben carson has accepted trump's offer to be the next housing and urban development secretary. trump says he's passionate about strengthening communities but democrats are slamming carson as unqualified. an emotional moment on capitol hill for vice president joe biden. he was presiding over a sweeping medical research legislation and senators took another vote to rename the cancer funding portion of the bill after biden's son who died last year. now, biden was in good spirits after the session and played coy with reporters about another bid for the white house. >> i'm going to run in 2020. >> for what? >> for president. you know, so, what the hell, man. >> just to be clear were you kidding about running for president in 2020?

>> i'm not committing not to run. i'm not committing to anything. i learned a long time ago fate has a strange way of intervening. >> well, biden would be 78 in four years if he ran and won. that would make him the oldest president in u.s. history. syria's raging civil war is front and center at the united nations, but russia and china blocked a resolution that would have demanded a seven-day truce in hard hit aleppo. that resolution would have allowed the evacuation of sick and wounded and cleared a path for much needed food and medicine. abc's alex marquardt shows us the magnitude of the crisis. >> reporter: this is what greets you as soon as you enter aleppo, this scene of incredible devastation, plumes of thick smoke and the sound of heavy fighting. you can hear that small arms fire, the loud booms, this is just a few hundred yards away. >> alex is in a part of aleppo controlled by syrian troops. the part still controlled by the rebels came under fierce

bombardment yesterday. dozens of people have been killed in just the past few days and some say it's the worst fighting in the four-year battle for control over the city. here at home parts of the south are facing a severe weather threat. strong to severe thunderstorms will rumble through parts of the south clustered mostly along the gulf coast region packing damaging wind gusts, hail, possibly a few tornadoes. still ahead, a whole new shopping experience. we have details on the new store with no cashiers and more importantly no checkout lines. >> sounds good to me. and breaking overnight, a christmas parade comes to a frightening halt. people forced to run for cover as shots rang out. plus, see what happens when a chunk of ice flies off a truck aimed at the car behind it.

a sheriff's deputy has been identified as the victim in this sinkhole accident in san antonio, texas. her body was removed from 12 feet of water yesterday. the woman's family said she was driving to work when the massive sinkhole swallowed her car. th3e annual christmas parade in sanford, north carolina, was brought to a screeching halt last night by multiple gun shots. police say at least two were hurt. one reportedly hospitalized in serious condition. another with a nonlife-threatening injury after as many as eight shots were fired at a convenience store. one suspect in custody and investigation ongoing. an atlanta father was sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering his son by leaving him in a hot car. justin ross harris declined to speak on his own behalf when given the chance in court. he has, though, maintained his innocence throughout the trial but the judge gave him the maximum. >> callously walked away and left that child in a hot car in

june in georgia in the summer to swelter and die. >> harris' attorneys are planning to appeal his conviction. the standing rock suit chairman is calling for protesters to leave north dakota now that think won a victory in the pipeline fight. the army corps of engineers denied a permit for the pipeline to cross under a reservoir but some protesters are vowing to stay worried that the army corps decision could be overturned in federal court. amazon redefined how we shop online. now the company is looking to redefine how we shop in person by doing away with checkout lines. the online retail giant is testing out a brick and mortar grocery store in seattle called amazon go. the store's wireless network connects to customers' cell phones as they walk through the door then automatically detects and charges for items as they walk out the door. that store is expected to open to the public early next year. >> that would be fantastic. when we come back, mistrial. the south carolina cop who shot an unarmed black man walks away

prosecutors are promising a round two in south carolina after a mistrial was declared in a highly emotional murder case. >> a white former police officer was charged with killing an unarmed black man but the jury could not agree on a verdict and abc's steve osunsami has more. >> the court, therefore, must declare a mistrial in this case. >> reporter: the mistrial in this racially divisive case means that this former north charleston police officer will wake up in his own bed this morning but still under house arrest and wearing a gps device on his ankle. >> until my family can see justice, no, there's no forgiveness. >> reporter: as the black foreman of this nearly all white jury was telling the judge that they just couldn't agree on a decision, two of the white women on the jury cried. >> and that's the way our system works. >> reporter: in a statement this morning, the prosecutor says we will try michael slager again. >> i don't care how it looks, it's not over. y'all hear me. it is not over.

>> reporter: steve osunsami, abc news, charleston. new research this morning about the dangers of drowsy driving. a aaa report says missing one to two hours of sleep doubles a driver a risk of getting into a crash. the study also found in a 24-hour period the crash risk for sleep deprived drivers increases when compared to those who slept the recommended seven hours or more. but it was snow that led to this chain reaction accident in montreal. take a look. first a transit bus crashes into a group of cars then a truck smacks into the bus and then it gets even worse. another bus crashes into that truck. a police car, even a snow removal truck also end up slipping down the street, but luckily despite the mess, no one was hurt. a couple speeding along a slick highway in new brunswick, canada, got the frightening surprise just as drive kevin mcgraw tried to pass this truck. a piece of ice smashes the windshield.

live where you live, this is abc7 news. we now know the identities of ten more victims from the oakland warehouse fire and the number of dead could be climbing again. the coroner arrived at warehouse overnight. good morning, it is december 6. i am reggie aqui. >> i am natasha zouves. we will have the latest on the oakland warehouse fire in a minute but, first, the traffic and weather. here is meteorologist mike nicco. >> we have fog that will be an issue in the north bay tule fog moving into the east bay. here is a look from sutro tower. it is quiet. temperatures are colder in the 30s and 40s and low-to-mid 50s by noon. low 50s at 4:00 and back in the 40s by 7:00. we see in the fog is affecting the commute. it was patchy.
