coast and will sweep through the bay area over the next 24 hours. future weather as we go hour by hour, this evening just a fine miss. the light showers going to pick up in activity as we approach midnight hours and pre-dawn here comes that cold front. a moderate storm and two on the impact scale. let's see if we can find you dry times over the weekend in the accuweather forecast. >> thanks, drew, very much. a water main break that happened in the middle of the night is still causing big problems in san francisco. public works crews are doing what they can at fourth and howard streets and as you can see it's a big mess. the pipe dates back to the 1800s. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live from the very busy interaction with the story. lyanne? >> reporter: dan, i can tell you, it's a good thing there were no major conventions today at mosconi center. otherwise this could be much worse. the water main break did have an impact on several city streets

around here. crews are moving very quickly to try to get this intersection open again. this was the scene at 3:00 this morning when emergency cruise arrived. water from a broken water main quickly flooded nearby garages and loading docks. >> very little, if any, damage to some of the property and there was some flooding and spillage into a couple other garages. the new mosconi underground station is part of the central station project and it, too, good flooded and construction there is still going o.while there was a reduction in water pressure service to people who live and work there was never interrupted. the water from the 12-inch pipe was rerouted. still this restaurant decided to remain closed. a huge hole in the old pipe dating back to 1895 was discovered. crews worked quickly to replace that section. right above it is a much larger 30-inch distribution line. >> we do have aging infrastructure throughout the city and there's areas where

it's more significant because the city has been here longer. >> pg&e crews were also there to pump water out of free underground vaults. already the expansion project of the mosconi center is affecting traffic. today's event made things a lot worse for drivers. several city blocks were affected. drivers know to stay away from this area during a big event like the dream force conference, but today they were caught off sglard why is this all closed? >> they had a water main break. >> frustrating because i've been off work for a while and i'm stuck in traffic. >> the city has a program to replace the aging pipes. 15 miles every year. >> so they finished breaking up the street and what they are doing is basically gilg up the big hole with essentially dirt, and they will cover it then with large metal plates and, of course, that will all be temporary. if i were to guess maybe they will be finished by 6:00, probably a little later. they have done a very good job.

i'm live in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. >> i guess so. usually pretty good. lyanne thank you. a bay area man on the ten most wanted list as a child predator has been captured in alaska after four years on the run. 40-year-old kevin traffic of san francisco. he was first indicted in 2012 for possession and trafficking of child pornography. he was captured on tuesday and was turned over to state enforcement and customs. this man was released in connection with a string of sexual batteries on campus. 19-year-old david cong was taken into custody yesterday on suspicion of committing sexual battery on a female student in the student union on monday. police believe he may be responsible for multiple unreported batteries. no further information on cong was released. restructuring what happened in oakland. coming up.

the investigation of fires and explosions. >> there's a collapse of the roof. a lot of the three-dimensional objects because more or less two-dimension a. in the met afterwatt the investigation becomes more challenging. that's when atf and other investigators uses a tool like this up, a thermal imaging camera. >> it picks up signals of heat and can you use that to map out an area and see which areas are still warm as opposed to that gone comb. here's what regular imaction look like. the cup on the table is red because it's filled well hot

kevy. in a fire the -- you may know that you need to remove the sheetrock to look no that area with a camera like that. >> so anything that's warm or hot is emitting energy in the infrared spectrum? you can't see it with the naked eye, but you can with a thunderstormal imaging camera. vic lee, abc 7 news. well, the tragedy in oakland is prompting the fire departments across the country to look at similar buildings that could be dangerous n.baltimore, inspectors ender the bell foundry arts building this week to investigate a complaint about sub standard conditions there. in washville and -- and according to the "new york times" buildings are also being looked at in dubuque, iowa, dallas, texas, new haven, conneticut, philadelphia and indianapolis.

moving through the south bay and around 7:50 p.m. and gilroy around 8:25 and this light shower along salinas and this is all well to the north and bringing soaking rain to eureka and it will bring us some downpours and heavy rain of what we saw and early tomorrow morning and ahead of that front it feels kind of mild out there. a nice south wind and we're in the 60s. 64 in san jose and 61 in oakland and 690 current number in san francisco and a bit cooler in the north bay and 59 napa and concord checking in at 59 degrees and overnight with that cloudy cover holding overhead temperatures not too far and we're in store for a mild night. at holt and 53 from santa rosa and 58 in san jose and another line of rain. storm impact scale to bring it back and this is a bit of a strong storm that we saw the previous day. a moderate storm on the storm impact scale and the reason why, we'll likely see some downpours very early tomorrow morning and tapering to lighter showers and urban areas, we could see as

much as three inches of rain out of this system. so hour by hour we go. let's go through tonight. 7:00 into the midnight hour. you notice the light showers do increase in coverage as we approach midnight early saturday morning. we're going to watch the front move through. first into the north bay and 4:00 in the morning and yellows and orange you see on the screen and those are the downpours and move probably closer to sunvice and 7:00 in the morning and likely heavier rain in san francisco and oakland and approaching livermore by that hour. 9:00, 10:00 when the downpours move into the south bay and then behind that initial line of downpours it's really going to taper to widely scattered showers and by the evening 6:00, 7:00 we'll likely see the activity really wind down and we'll dry out as we approach the midnight hour. we'll show you where you likely see the downpour setup and not out of the question for anyone across the bay area to be fair game for as much of an inch of rain. be tracking where the downpours
