last friday three dozen people died. the names of all 36 victims have been released. the atf is using cameras to see what exactly caused the fire. they ruled out a refrigerator as a cause. katie spoke to the friends of the victims who made a passionate free. >> council member noel dires weekly peace a march game a memorial. she lost five friends. >> donna, she was a ray of light. one was peaceful and loving person, nick was jovial and he loved to travel. barrett was a loving individual too. >> she says the man who ran the artist collecive, derek, took advantage of people. >> and it really insults me every time he calls me his children. if they were his children he would have loved them enough to

fix the place up. >> the city needs to do their part enforcing fire code. >> i think the fire marshal is the most effective individual to enforce the codes. >> meanwhile atf investigators map the building. they now say a refrigerator was not the cause of the fire, but they are looking at electrical sources. >> just agers me because we have a lot of fellow artists who struggle, but live and work in better environments. >> she said she would like to see more evictions while the city pushes landlords to make safety improvements n oakland, abc7 news >> today there will be several benefits for the fire victims. there's a free event at the aggregate space gallery in oakland with an artist round table discussion. that starts at 11 zoo this morning a concert will be held at bottom of the hill in san francisco. all roads proceeds of the show

will be donated to the victims' families. that's at 89:30 tonight. and in san francisco on erie street there is an event that starts at 9:00 tonight. proceeds go to the families. and another concert is in san francisco, funds raised will go to the fire relief fund. that also starts at 9:00 tonight. there's a new party safety individual grow to make sure future parties in oakland don't turn into what happened at the ghost ship. the 4 1/2 minute long till many is hosted by a public safety expert who spent 18 years as an emergency planner for burning man. they said party goers needs to know what -- when to leave if it doesn't feel right. >> all the code requirements and all that can't replace your own individual problemsibility. >> they said there are five essentials, lighted exit signs, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms and a minimal amount of

challenge. but past the construction it was a breeze. >> cars are switching lanes sporadically. it's a little dangerous, but not significantly more than usual. >> i'm looking down howard -- >> and now there's nothing. it's great. >> the 124-year-old water main failed at 3:00 a.m. causing water to gush out of the street. >> very little damage to any of the properties. there was some spillage into a couple garages in the area. >> that includes the marriott hotel underground garage. and the central subway construction project got water. and the water was quickly rerouted. above ground some sources of the intersection continue to be ripped up. that's because water shifted to the soil below putting it at the risk of collapse. construction is expected to continue into the morning. sergio quinn taken thaw, abc7 news. >> a nevada family escaped

injury after lethal levels of could be ban monoxide filled their apartment thursday night. 55 parts per million, to be exact. 9 parts is considered the maximum allowable. a resident in the apartment said his kids got ill after he started a wall heater oftennity. the family was checked out at the hospital and will be okay. 20 residents total in the apartment complex were checked out as a precaution. this morning abc7 news just learned santa clara county will pay out millions of dollars to the family of a mentally ill inmate found dead in jail. three guards were found guilty of beating michael tyree to death early last year. we have information on the settlement. >> it's a resolution of just a very, sad, heart-wrenching situation. >> attorney paula speaking with us via facetime represented michael's two sisters. the women and is his 7-year-old

daughter have settled for $7.62 million. >>, they will much rather have their brother or father, you know, being here a than any amount of money but there's no amount of money that's ever going to fix this. >> the county released a statement releasing the details of the settlement but would not comment otherwise. three jail guards are awaiting trial, charged with killing tyree, who was mentally ill. they said the three beat him to death while he was in custody in august of 2015. legal antist steven clark say it is unusual for a civil case to be resolved before a criminal case. >> the county wanted to distance itself from these three guards and the conduct they are accused of, so what this settlement says to michael tyree's family, it's a statement of remorse, it's a statement of impact think. >> the attorney for guard matthew ferris said the murder trial was set to start on the

good morning. a lot more rain moving into the bay area right now. lisa argen is tracking the latest storm and she will have all the details coming up in just a few minutes. >> one week ago firefighters were putting out the ghost ship warehouse fire in oakland. into last week we were bringing you stories about the 36 victims, their lives, their friends and their families. this morning we pay tribute to the lives lost in the fire and the remembrances from those who knew them best. >> anytime we lose a community member, we feel it. >> there is a human side of this tragedy. >> what would with he have been if he would have survived? >> he always wanted to be

that's all on abc7news.com. for the next few months the stanford band won't be seen or heard. the university suspended all activities until the spring of 2017 quarter for violating the alcohol policy and violating an alcohol suspension and a travel ban imposed last spring. that investigation found alcohol abuse, hazing and sexual harassment among members. university leaders say the band will be restructured and there will also be a new band director. in a letter the advice provo for student affairs said he hopes the punishment will address the leadership deficits of that led to constant and repeated violations of policy and a total lack of accountability and responsibility. >> details now emerging on the land deal being put forward to try and keep the raiders in oakland. the term sheet offered by a group headed by nfl hall of famer ronny lott lays out the plan for a $1.3 billion stadium.

>> it is split up between infrastructure improvements, the raiders and sets aside land for an a's stadium if needed. larry reid said it's the best the city and county have ever put together to keep the raiders in oakland. an advisor agree. >> the nfl has wanted to see the city of oakland has the will and initiative to complete big projects, and that's what it's seeing. that is what is to be celebrated. and more important, to do it without placing a burden on the taxpayer. >> the city council and almeda county board of supervisors will vote on the term sheet tuesday. if approved it will be presented to nfl owners at their next meeting. or meeting the next day. the raiders had no comment on the matter. new this morning for the first time since collin kaepernick announced his protest

of the national anthem, his parents now breaking their silence on the stance. speaking to espn's the undefeated. kaepernick's parents say they absolutely support him. they say they wanted to release a statement because they kept seeing articles saying they do not support him. but they assure everyone that they are proud and they admire their son's courage in kneeling for the rights of others. their statement reads in part, quote, colin is carrying a heavy load and following a difficult path that he truly believes in. he is putting his entire future and possibly his life on the line for those beliefs. just released, secret cia report said russia tried to help president-elect donald trump win the white house. the cia believes individuals with connection was the russian government provided wikileaks with thousands of hacked e-mails from the democratic national committee in an effort to get trump elected. thursday night trump's team responded saying, quote, these

about a third of an inch to an inch of rain. coastal hills could see upwards of three inches. and we shall look at heavy downpours in the sierra they ha quarter mile visibility along the coast and not a lot of problems in terms of visibility but once the front begins to move through it could get a little messy. as we look at live doppler 7 you will notice around the radar sweep, hills berg look at pretty good rain, clear lake, cloverdale, highway 101 and off the coast looking at showers. the front still well to the north in the sierra nevada. we are looking at high snow levels. heavy rain in blow canyon. because of that, we have a flood watch. we are looking at flooding. the flood warning around the truckee river right on through tomorrow. right now the river stands at 1.4 feet and it should get to 4.5 feet tomorrow. minor flooding expected in truckee, and it should recede by tomorrow night. rainfall estimates you see pretty intense for the sierra nevada snow levels.

well above 8500 feet. so 3 to 6 inches of rain expected in the mountains. emeryville right now, a live look outside. look how mild it is. 61 mountain view and san jose looking at the low 60s. 65 half moon bay. southerly winds you see them blowing our camera out ahead of the system looks quiet now, the golden gate bridge. 7:00, 8:00, the rain will continue to push to the south and we will see it clear the north bay first. 59 napa and fairfield. 60 concord and livermore. finally from the exploratorium camera, rain increasing this morning. looking at showers tapering off this afternoon. so more likely in the east bay and south bay. and then we will look for sunny and cool conditions for your sunday. so let's track it for you hour by hour. so here we are 6:00, 7:00 in the morning. front is pushing through marin county. by 8:00 pushing over san francisco, the heart of the bay, emberyville, oakland and by 10:00, 11:00, it's in san mateo.

also around 580, dublin you are looking at some pretty good downpours and then by 1:00 in the afternoon still look be at rain from san jose and livermore. st. louis take until 3:00, 4:00, until we get rid of all the scattered showers. we will look for the heavier downpours within the next couple of hours. the biggest rainfall amounts will be in the north bay here with over an inch. rain expected in santa rosa. but really not too bad for elsewhere around the bay. anywhere from about .4 in oakland, san francisco .6 perhaps and mountain view, and we should get steady rain by the afternoon in san jose. so temperatures today still on the mild side. we will continue to cool things off later tonight as the front pushed through. 63 concord and san jose. act weather seven-day forecast. 2 on the storm impact scale. the rain increasing this morning and showers this afternoon. mild for today and then cooler tonight. partly cloudy skies tomorrow, increasing clouds and another dry day on monday.

yesterday that contains a space junk collector. n.a.s.a. animation shows 100 million pieces of old satellites and rockets going back to 1957 floating around the earth. they say it can pose a threat to future space exploration. they say it will enter the atmosphere and burn up harmlessly. no fear of it falling back to earth. this picture shows a giant at the time they are made of stainless steel and aluminum that looks like a giant fishing net, i guess. it will use electronic magnets to pull all the junk out of orbit. one of the trees at the state capitol has been to the moon and back. just to the left of the capitol's north entrance sits a tree that doesn't look much different than the other coastal redwoods around it. but in 1971 the men on apollo 14 mission took hundreds of seeds to the moon, then brought them

>> 9 bay area is in for another rainy day. this is what it looked like on the golden gate bridge this morning going into san francisco. how long will the rain last? here's meteorologist lisa argen with a look at the weekend weather. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, cornell. the rain is just going to increase. of the top edge of the screen and the leading edge of heavier rain and a cold front that will sweep through the bay area mainly throughout the morning hours in the north bay and the rest of the area in the afternoon. the cloud and visibility, quarter mile half moon bay as we get in closer. this is what you want top know about, the downpours from cobb mountain to calistoga, highway 101 and it's increasing along the coast from jenner to fort ross. and bodega and pretty soon into point reyes.

forecasts for where you live or work. and you can see live doppler radar for every in the bay area. >> one of the tools the atf used immediately after last week's tragic fire at the ghost ship warehouse is a thermal imaging camera to try to determie the origin of the fire and the cause. vic lee has that story. >> the ghost ship fire moved quickly, furiously. the flames so intense it wasn't long before the roof and second floor collapsed. dr. abid camell is a expert in fires and explosion. >> there was a collapse of the roof. a lot of it is three-dimensional objects become two dimensional. >> in the immediate aftermath the fire investigation becomes more challenging. >> the charring, melting of objects and electrical activity

or lack thereof. >> reporter: among the evidence, the most important clue. >> they are looking for indicators that tell you how intensified it was, which direction it was moving and it helped them find the origin. >> reporter: that's when atf and other investigators used tools hike this one. a thermal imaging camera. >> it picks up signals of heat and you can use that to map out an area and see which areas are still warm as opposed to areas of that gone cold. >> reporter: the mission of the investigators is to look for the origin of the fire. then you can look for the cause. here's what regular images look like. the cup on the table is red because it's filled with hot coffee. my face and hands are red because of the warm blood flow. in a fire the camera picks up heat in places you can't see. >> for instance, inside a wall and the wall is still warm you may know that you need to remove the sheetrock to look into that

area about a camera like that. >> reporter: so anything warm or hot is emitting energy in the infrared spectrum. you can't see it with the naked eye, but you can with a thermal imaging camera. vic lee, abc7 news >> friends. the youngest victim visited yesterday. the 17-year-old's death shocked his classmates at the school of art in san francisco. one friend first met mcgill about five years ago. >> he had such a humble and generous attributes within him. i still can't believe that someone as good as him just passed on >> clint also described him as being a talented singer who belonged to a boys choir. he lived in dublin. he took bart every day to attend classes in san francisco. many people want to help in some way to do something positive in the wake of the tragedy. you have a chance to do just

rebuilt months woodson after a fire gutted the center last month. the mayor will be at the event today where the community can share their center for the new center. it housed a commuter lab, dance studio and art studios. it was also home to an inclusion camp for children with disabilities. today's open forum starts at 12:30* at moss woodson par and a police shot and killed mario woods last december after they say he stabbed a stainger in the arm. police confronted him and fired beanbag rounds and then fatal shots. today at noon a group plans to restore the mario woods memorial at the site of the shooting today bikers will hop on their motorcycles to deliver thousands of gifts to children. ice part of of the 27th annual harley club toy run to give

. >> happening today the holidays will hit the south bay for the first-ever winter fest at the stadium. the san jose earthquakes will bring tendons of snow for children and families to play in. the stadium will be transformed into a winter oner land with a giant inflatable snow globe and snow bounce house. admission is free, so is parking. that but a new or gently used toy is suggested for a donation. it runs from noon to five, followed by a view you of the mls cup. i hope the rain doesn't felt all the snow. >> 61 there right now. forecasting a high of the low 60s. you can see about a quarter inch. rain today in san jose.

there will be about a third to inch of rain for santa cruz and big sur. between, a pretty good downpour but the coastal hills will also be looking at a couple of inches. withs -- you see the yellows right here along the coast. this is where the rain continues to be enhanced. around bodega guy and it will move east and south throughout the morning hours. it's been pretty steady for napa, sonoma, mendocino county. you see all the green here. there's the sweep on top of mount st. helena, and it is a warm atmosphere. as we go into the sierra nevada, it is rain. some heavy rain in blue canyon. low to mid-40s right now. that's why the national weather service has issued a flood watch for parts of reno and the truckee area where there's a flood warning for the truckee river. we are looking at the river right now almost at two feet. flood stage is 4.5 feet. looks like we will get near

6 feet by later on tonight with 3 to 6 inches of rain coming our way and maybe you are wondering when was the last time you have seen flooding there? back in 1981. almost 6.5 feet was the river stage. unusual conditions there but it shouldn't cause much of an impact. some minor flooding. but we are looking at temperatures very mild ahead of the system now. low 60s mountain view. good morning san francisco, 59 for you. you see a little mist out here in the city with upper 50s santa rosa. 60 concord. maybe a third of an inch or so for you in our inland valleys. you see some of the mist here getting into san francisco. you will need the wipers out there. rain increases this morning. showers taper off this afternoon from north to south. and looking at a sunny and cool day tomorrow and we will look at temperatures that that will allr the dryer air to mix in. let's go hour by hour. right now the front well to the north of us.

by 7:00, 8:00 it's pressing through marin, sonoma. and by 9:00 it's pushing over san francisco. 120:00 into the east bay, oakland, emeryville could get some pretty good downpours here. still yet to come for the peninsula and the south bay. that's going to be about 1:00, 2:00 in the afternoon for you in fremont, san leandro and hayward. and by the afternoon you still have some showers around san jose. but it will clear throughout the evening hours and we will be looking a the a dry saturday night. rainfall, we talked a little bit it earlier, over an inch in santa rosa, a third inch in concord. and this forecast model wants to bring in half inch on the peninsula. we will see if that verifies. you know between now and then it's the rainy midmorning and early afternoon for you on the peninsula and the south bay it's going to stay rainy throughout the 2:00, 3:00 hour. so keep that in mind if you head out today. you may want to postpone some of those outdoor activities for later on today or tomorrow. the accuweather seven-day
