new this morning, okay be land firefighters put out a fire at an abandoned building t started after 3:00 this morning on fairfax avenue and bancroft. it took about half-hour for the crews to put out the flames. of the building is less than two miles from the ghost ship hair warehouse. abc7 news was where her car slammed into a light pole. it happened just after 8:30 last night. police say the car was stolen, the woman was speeding and was ejected. police and firefighters gave her cpr but were not able to survive her. investigators say they were not pursuing the driver when she crashed. a seven-year veteran of the santa clara police department is in jail this morning, accused to domestic violence.

fellow officers arrested daniel bird yesterday morning. investigators say when they responded to the call just after midnight, a woman he had been dating had visible injuries. bird was off-duty at the time. he's now been placed on paid leave. of the entire bay area got a good soaking yesterday and that caused power out answer and downed trees. sergio quintana has the details. >> one of the biggest impacts the storm left was on this 200-foot tree that came down across both lanes of state highway 13 in oakland. highway patrol officers arrived to find the giant tree blocking all four lanes of the freeway and a driver trapped. >> the driver was still trapped. we broke branches out to get the driver out. the driver was uninjured. >> the chp officer said the

driver of the camaro saw the tree falling and didn't know if he should speed past it or put on the brakes. he decided to stop and got caught under the tree. lane soaked tree roots were a problem across the bay area. crews cut apart another one that fell on to the 880 freeway in highway. in san francisco drivers were. >> squeezed down to one lane because of flooding. there were other few other weather relate the issues but it didn't dampen the spirits of several dozen people dressed up as kris kringle. >> it's always like this. i love it! >> the santa event at union square had a good turnout. umbrellas just became a popular accessory to the santa suit. abc7 news. another fallen tree kept pg&e crews busy on maddox road. ten homes and businesses lost

power because that tree landed on top of powerlines very early yesterday morning. and you see here how drivers were encountering flooding when mark west creek overflowed near santa rosa. in the sierra search and rescue crews will be back out this morning looking for a skier who got caught in an avalanche. it happened on a closed ski run at ski tahoe which is on the nevada side. crews started searching the back country for the missing 60-year-old man yesterday afternoon. they had to pull back because of weather conditions. the skier was with another man who managed to get out of the avalanche. >> the skiers obviously made a decision they wanted to make a run there. and obviously this did not work out for the best. our function right now is to do everything we can to try to find this individual. officials say the skiers did not have a shovel or safety

so for the west slope of the sierra nevada, tuesday and wednesday, a winter storm watch. 48 inches above 5,000 feet above 5,000 feet. you can expect chain controls, slippery conditions and then we could see fluctuating snow levels into thursday. it will being the cement, the heavy snow and heavy value lit rain, as well. oakland 48 for you. and half moon bay at 45 degrees. looking at this vantage point from our sutro tower camera, numbers cropping in flap paw to 39 degrees. low 40s novato, fairfield and concord and livermore in the mid-40s. so everyone picked up a good deal of rain yesterday and finally it began to dry out. so with the wet ground, some patchy, dense fog. with high clouds today partly to mostly cloudy from time to time. a nice break in the action today. and tomorrow we see also a dry afternoon. clouds increase.

rain arrives on tuesday, wednesday, and thursday looks to be gusty winds and even heavier rain with each system getting progressively stronger. as we go throughout the day today notice we have high clouds streaming in. that will make for a partly cloudy afternoon, a quiet day. it will be cool, though. the atmosphere has allowed dewpoints to drop with highs just in the 50s today. as we get to tuesday we will light rain. tuesday afternoon still kind of late, light. by wednesday looking at more rain in the morning and then by wednesday night heavy rain into thursday. gusty winds. we could look at a couple inches of rain here. that's three days of wet weather. you add them up consecutively right in a row, that could bring two inches, inch and a half around the bay. very preliminary estimates. but with the gusty winds we could be looking at certainly saturated grounds and minor flooding around here. if you want to make a plans ahead, it will be an off youfully soggy week.
