unfounded, unprofessional, unqualified. but the fact is the russians did target both republicans and democrats during the election. that's according to u.s. and european intelligence officials, as well as members of congress from both sides of the aisle. the russians were much more successful, however, with the democrats than the republicans, which had a better cybersecurity operation. the russians got into two computers connected to the republicans, a consultant and a local party, but they did not get into the main computer at the rnc. >> the big question, motive. were the russians trying to help trump win? >> well, in this case, other intelligence agencies tell us they don't agree with the cia. they say, what they -- what they are analyzing is the russians thought hillary clinton was going to win, they sought to weaken her once she was elected. it wasn't so much about going after trump and getting him elected according to these officials. >> interesting. brian ross, as always. thank you very much. >> let's get more from kellyanne conway, donald trump's senior adviser. thanks for coming back again today. you've got senior u.s. intelligence officials responding to mr. trump's comments over the weekend. here's the written statement from the u.s. intelligence official saying, it is concerning that intelligence on russian actions related to the

u.s. election is being dismissed out of hand as false or politically partisan. the inclination to ignore such intelligence and impugn the integrity of u.s. intelligence officials is contrary to all the sacred to the intelligence officials who work day and night to protect the country. pretty stunning rebuttal. >> it is, but if you look at the "newsweek" article posted you see another cia official counterterrorism expert on the report, which is rare in this instance saying, listen, we can't rush to judgment that after that closed door house intelligence committee briefing last week somebody came out and said -- somebody from the fbi said they disagree, that it's, quote, fuzzy and ambiguous at best, and there is a direct nexus between any effort by the kremlin to hack into this, and the election result. and let's be fair. that's what it is. first it was jim comey's fault and let's have a recall. then it's russian interference then a bunch of people in a movement that we have disavowed many times. how about it just was hillary clinton and the message.

i think they're trying to conflate the two so we -- revisit the election results. >> nobody here is doing that and the president-elect isn't just questioning that cia assessment. he has also questioned the on the record assessment of 17 intelligence agencies that russia was trying to meddle in this election. he says he doesn't believe it. why? >> because these are all unsourced off the record comments. >> this is a public release in october. 17 intelligence official agencies all saying russia was part of this. >> but what he said yesterday is what he is calling laughable and ridiculous, yesterday, george, is the specific conclusion that what russia did led to his victory, and hillary clinton's defeat. that's where our beef is. he respects the intelligence community. he's going to be president of the united states. >> you keep saying he respects it, but he says he doesn't believe their conclusions. saying specifically he does not believe the conclusion of 17 agencies that russia was involved here. >> the conclusion that this helped him win and hillary clinton lose, that's what he said.

very clearly. >> but -- "time" magazine last week, he says, i do not believe the judgment of the intelligence community that russia was behind this. why not? >> behind this meaning the election result -- >> and meddling in our election? >> the other vn that's what investigations are for. if we have the closed door house intelligence committee meeting last week or so then that's what's happening. it's ongoing. i know senator mccain said they would go and i head and open up hearin hearings. fine. bipartisan hearings. the executive would never meddle in that. look, george. let me make clear, the president-elect does not want interference into our politics. but we also don't want politics into the interference of our intelligence and that's what's happening now. people are trying to politicize our intelligence because they don't like the election result. >> the president-elect's likely pick for deputy secretary of state, john bolden, says it was called a false flag. is that right? >> he allowed a wide berth of men and women for the top spot, secretary of state is the fourth highest ranking individual in

our nation's government. very important decision. a leading candidate, rex tillerson, has dealt with russia for many years. it's not like he is pounding down vodka with vladimir putin at a local bar, but he has dealt with him in a business context. we know we don't have a good relationship with a lot of countries including russia. if as secretary of state, mr. tillerson or whoever the president-elect selects can go ahead and improve relationships and advance u.s. interests, and the trump doctrine, we should welcome that. >> not worried about confirmation then? confidential news, senators mccain and rubio questioning tillerson's ties to putin. >> and they know -- i know that senators mccain and rubio will ultimately see mr. tillerson as somebody who is advancing u.s. interests which, of course, they share. at the same time, that's what confirmation hearings are for and incredibly impressive he employs 70,000 people and involved with a $320 billion

global corporation that, frankly, is in 50 countries including russia, yemen, china, the developing world and middle east. we need to stabilize the middle east, and we need somebody, the the fourth highest ranking person in our u.s. government to go around the world and to advance our u.s. interests. >> kellyanne conway, thanks very much. >> thanks sore having me. george, and now turning to that breaking news overnight. the suspect in that road rage trial, accused of killing former new orleans saints player, will smith, found guilty of manslaughter, and abc's ryan smith has the latest. >> reporter: this morning, the man who fatally shot former nfl star, will smith, is a convicted killer. the jury of eight women and four men, sequestered since monday, voting 10-2 to convict 29-year-old cardell hayes of manslaughter for gunning down the former super bowl champion in a deadly road rage incident and attempted manslaughter for shooting his wife. the decision stemmed from a traffic incident in april. this surveillance video shows hayes' red hummer bumped by a car matching smith's suv.

then driving off with the hummer in pursuit. and moments later, according to police, hazelwood allegedly slamming into smith's suv, the pair exchanging words then hayes opening fire. smith dead at the scene. his wife, racquel, shot in the leg. >> my baby! >> reporter: hayes' trial, attended by a bevy of teammates and former saints and coaches of the defensive end. hayes testifying in his own defense saturday claiming smith punched me three or our times saying smith then grabbed a gun from his mercedes. i didn't want to kill will smith. i didn't want to kill nobody. i knew for a fact that i was going to get shot, he testified. but prosecutors disputing that account, saying smith was killed while walking away. racquel smith's spokesperson telling us the smith family's main focus is to see hayes justly sentenced.

key video at the center of this case, and abc's linsey davis is here with all the details. good morning, linsey. >> reporter: good morning, amy. many may remember her as the woman who said she was 5,000% sure she wanted a hit man to kill her husband but dalia dippolito has said along she is innocent. that she was simply acting for a reality tv show hoax planned by her husband, something she may explain today if she ends up taking the witness stand. this morning, dalia dippolito will be back in the florida courtroom preparing to possibly take the stand in her defense in her murder for hire retrial. >> i'm positive like 5,000% sure. >> reporter: the 34-year-old is accused of paying an undercover officer posing as a hitman, to kill her husband of six months, michael. >> is your husband michael? i'm sorry to tell you, ma'am. he's been killed. >> reporter: in court dippolito's lawyers turned the spotlight on the police

department behind the videos arguing that the boynton beach police department staged this encounter and posted it online to impress the crew of the tv show "cops" and by doing so tainted and put their quest for fame ahead of the integrity of the investigation, something the police department disputes. >> post that on youtube for the whole world to see within six minutes. you don't think that's going to jeopardize -- you're laughing. >> well, because you keep changing the time. >> you think this is funny, ma'am? >> no, i don't, but now you're saying it's six minutes. >> reporter: this is the second time dippolito is being charged for the alleged crime after an appellate court reversed her conviction in 2014. in an interview with our amy robach last december, dippolito maintained her innocence. >> did you want your husband dead? >> no, absolutely not. >> did you hire a hitman to kill your husband? >> no. >> reporter: the judge says once the defense rests its case, he will decide if the jury will see that now infamous youtube video.

amy. >> let's bring in our chief legal analyst dan abrams and the big question whether she will take the stand. what are the risks and benefits? >> she was convicted in the first trial and didn't testify. so that in and of itself is a reason to say maybe she needs to do something different this time around. the problem is this time the theory of the defense has primarily been blame the cops. the cops were trying to impress the show "cops." they were engaged in all sorts of horrible activity and actions, et cetera. if she takes the stand, the focus then returns to, i thought i was on a reality show, and i was faking it all and i was acting. and it's hard to have both the defenses at the same time. so i think that's an argument to suggest she won't take the stand, and look. in case like this, the defense is going to say, look. we're deciding until the last minute, even if they knew from the beginning, she wouldn't testify. >> now, this tape of her reaction when police tell her her husband is dead, so far has been inadmissible. could that change given the

strategy of the defense? >> the prosecution agreed to not admit it into evidence. the judge said, o. we'll leave that out of evidence but now the prosecution is saying the defense has raised it as an issue meaning on cross-examination of the witness you saw there, they essentially brought it up, and they brought up the way the police handled this throughout this case. prosecuto prosecutors are saying, we have to be able to rebut that, and to respond. and so that tape is necessary prosecutors say to allow us to respond to the allegations they've made, the judge saying i'll wait till the end to make that decision, i think part of the decision is going to be connected to does dalia dippolito testify. >> we will find out later today. >> yes. everyone waiting to see. yes. >> dan, thank you. moving on to that scary moment for a family traveling in bad weather. they were relying on their gps, and ended up stranded on a snowy mountain for hours without cell phone service and gio benitez has their story. >> reporter: good morning. listen, this can happen at any moment driving through an unfamiliar area relying on gps like so many of us do when suddenly, you're lost or even

worse, stranded. and in this case, in the snow the. that happened to an oregon family, and this morning, they are definitely lucky to be alive. the sanquist family traveling from oregon to california relied on their gps to give them the quickest route. >> the next thing we know, we just started sliding and we got stuck. >> reporter: but the shortest route, took the family, mom, dad, their 9-year-old daughter and their family dog, straight through the page mountain snow park. where many roads don't get plowed this time of year. their car wouldn't move. the family didn't have a shovel or a cell phone service. the sanquists were stuck there with no help in sight. >> i'm not even sure if i had a shovel, what i could have dug out. >> reporter: they hunkered down till morning when ron hiked two miles to find help, and the family finally reaching 911. >> it was scary because to the left was a downgrade, quite a steep one. >> reporter: search and rescue getting them back on track and issuing this warning for all

mark zuckerberg related to a bunch of issues, but in the course of that, there were text messages between mark zuckerberg and another member of the board, basically trying to figure out if he could sell all of his stock and still retain some of the power if he decided to pursue something in politics, something in public service. so it all related to a release of text messages between those two. >> mark zuckerberg is a famously introverted individual. what would you think of him as a politician? >> well, i think there's been many introverts as we know it, even serving as the president of the united states. richard nixon was one. abraham lincoln was an introvert, dwight eisenhower. george stephanopoulos is a bit of an introvert, and he's in front of millions of people. so i think it's -- i think it's very -- he could do it. i think part of this is he probably was figuring out if he could serve in a clinton cabinet who he was close to members of her staff. i think that's probably more of what it was about but he could

run for office. >> we introverts do not like to be outed like that, matthew dowd. you saw the back and forth in the filings. there was some concern because zuckerberg is so closely tied to the brand. of facebook. what would happen if he were indeed to leave? >> as we all know, he started this company back in college, and he has built this company in this. my guess is they could find somebody. a perfect person i think would be sheryl sandberg, who served in the organization who serves on the disney board just to let everybody know, i think she would be the perfect person for this. but it is a question about the entirety of the facebook brand which has been so linked, as you say, george, to mark zuckerberg. >> all right. matt dowd. more to. co come on that one. thank you. up next today is something called green monday. i'd explain to george. it is one of the biggest online shopping days of the year but security experts are sending an alert warning millions about a holiday e-mail scam that could be in your in-box and looks like a package delivery notice.

so t.j., tell us what we can look for. >> it's essentially a trap they are sending in your in-box right now, and the crips are waiting to see if you take the bait. let's say, george, the introvert is buying my christmas gift this year. all right. he's probably going to do it online, so all our in-boxes are flooded with all these package, a delivery confirmation, shipping confirmation so the criminals sneak one in that looks like the real deal but they're a fake and what they're trying to do is bait you into opening it but opening an attachment and downloading something, and that ends up with the malware, the virus virus on your computer, or even this new thing that they call ransomware in which they can shut down your computer and then hold it hostage and make you send them payment to unlock your own computer. so that's what you got to look for. >> i've gotten so many. how can people avoid getting caught up in this? >> just a little diligence, take a moment and look at it. fedex, u.p.s., all these legitimate ones tell you we won't send you anything.

so listening. we're not going to ask you for personal information. we won't ask you for anything. that's a certainly a red flag and also the other thing here, just look at that e-mail address. some of them are @ups.com. that's legit, but some of them are @ups, underscore, it. don't download it. >> if you check the better business bureau's naughty list they warn you of ten different holiday scams. what is it about this time of year? >> there are literally, guys. billions of packages that will be shipped this season. all of us, one, are sending things to family and friends, but we are in that good mood, that giving mood. so even scams having to do with charities so people are preying on us being online right now. it is just -- for an opportunist, a criminal opportunist. the perfect time. >> t.j. holmes our resident extrovert. thank you voch. so much. >> when george and i go out we have a great time. >> yin and yang. coming up, first "star wars"

thank you. and this morning, china is expressing what it calls serious concern about donald trump's latest comments on taiwan. it comes after the president-elect said he feels he is not -- he does not feel bound by a one-china policy unless there is a new deal on other things like trade. the state run newspaper there called trump ignorant as a child when it comes to diplomacy. and russia is denying allegations that it interfered with the u.s. election. president-elect trump is also rejecting the cia findings saying claims that russia was trying to help him win are ridiculous. he blames democrats for leaking the information, and earlier on "gma" trump's senior adviser kellyanne conway insisted trump still respects the intelligence community. >> the president-elect does not want interference into our politics, but we also don't want politics into the interference of our intelligence, and that's what's happening now. people are trying to politicize our intelligence because they don't like the election result. >> a bipartisan group of senators is calling for an

wild, me and martin in miami, you know, in our 20s. >> you're doing it again, aren't you? >> it won't be like it was then. it'll be the 48-year-old knees. yeah, but -- >> what? >> yeah, "the bad men." but, yeah, we're going back there next year. >> in this role you had to dig pretty deep. >> yeah, yeah. >> so what did you reach for in our own personal experience? >> you know, what was so beautiful about this film, it's about a guy who, you know, suffers a loss, and then he starts putting his life back together, so, you know, what was beautiful for me was to have an opportunity, you know, my father was sick during the time. so i was able to share the preparation with my -- with my father, so it was that beautiful blending of life and art at the same time. so some of the experiences, the character was having, i was having in my own life so i think that people -- i hope people will see and feel the openness

that i was able to give and the honesty i was able to give to this character. >> in fact, let's take a look at the clip from "collateral beauty." >> you got a clip? >> we got a clip. we're ready. >> i'm having conversations. >> uh-huh. >> i mean conversations. >> okay. >> it's okay. never mind. >> howard, you want to have a conversation with me? >> yes. [ cheers and applause ] >> now, except the conversations that he's been having, you know, he gets angry after his loss and he writes three letters, and he just vents and rants to love, time and death.

and he gets so angry at love, time and kdeath, and he writes these letters and he mails them, and then love, time and death respond. he's like, whoa, whoa. so, you know, it has a little bit of that "it's a wonderful life" beautiful christmas vibe and it's set in new york, wand, you know, it's one of those movies that could only happen in new york because of the magical element of it. of it. >> you ride your bike all throughout this movie, don't you? >> that was fantastic. i got essentially for the scenes a police escort all the time riding my bike through the streets of new york and got to ride down the middle of fifth avenue full speed. >> people do that anyway. it happens all the time. >> mine was safe and had stunt drivers around me but it was so beautiful like that free to be able to ride through new york in that way and it was, you know, we were -- that's fake snow.

we had to make snow. you would see people come around the corner like what the hell. so, yeah, you know, big piles of snow. >> so many -- almost the whole cast, i had the great pleasure of sitting down with dame judi dench. >> and helen mirror. >> it's a selfie head. >> i know. your face is never really right for the picture. >> and just pass off the camera. >> i look the dumbest. >> no, but it was just a beautiful group of people coming together around the idea. i think that more than anything, that's what it was. it was, like, such powerful, helpful ideas around love, and time and death. you know, the things that it's so universally relatable, what you are dealing with, and i

think everybody bonded around the ideas, and some of the conversations we would have. it didn't hurt that, like, everybody in the cast is, like, the best in the world. >> and ed norton came by last week, and he said, when the cameras stopped rolling, you went into "hamilton" mode. >> i was in the middle. >> do you have a favorite song? [ singing ] love that. i didn't know if i could say those two words. i was, like, oh, morning television. morning television. yeah. but yeah. it was during that time. it was so -- such a beautiful energy onset. this is one of the most fun, the most emotional connection i have ever had working with a group of people onset.

>> and naomi harris told us you were a big practical jokesters and messing with her a little bit. >> when people are british, american jokes aren't funny, right? so that made it extra funny to me. >> like, i don't get it. >> oh, okay. so i'm going to say it again. just louder. >> question for up. your two kids. so stunning. both very fashion forward. where do they get that? >> i have no idea. it's, like, just poor parenting, right? no. it's, like -- >> i mean really chic. >> they are -- yeah. i think if there is one gift that jada and i were able to give them is the freedom to be who they are unapologetically. and as parents, jada and i struggle with wanting them to be what we want them to be. right? versus the fight that we have

with ourselves, is you know what? they were created as a thing, and we're going to get behind what they are, rather than demand that they be what we want them to be to make us feel a certain way. >> that's great. >> that's a big breakthrough. >> you know what? as the parent of a -- i have an almost 15-year-old son, and i'm listening to you, like, gosh. i got to do that. >> but no. it's terrifying, because you're, like, no. that's dumb. don't do that! >> you have to let them make mistakes, right? the ability to make mistakes is how you learn. >> unfortunately, that pain and that suffering that you gain around your own choices are -- >> comes right back. >> that's how you grow, and on top of it, jada and i had to be honest with ourselves. we don't know as much as we think we do. they know better about themselves than we do sometimes. it's just real, and you can know for yourself, but you can't know for somebody else what is right.

>> it's hard to do as a parent. >> i know. >> if this acting thing does not work out for you, you have a career in therapy. >> i have already had a career in therapy on the other side. >> very helpful, though. >> great to see you again. amy, everybody. let's head up to you. >> all right. it is time now for the golden globe nominations. they just came in, and we have a lot to talk about. abc's chris connelly is back with all the details. >> as you know the golden globes likes to split nominations into two separate categories on the movie side. we have nominations for best drama. best drama actor and actress. also best comedy musical. musical actress and comedy musical actor. >> sometimes it's a little gray. >> yeah, they're not really a lot of thigh slappers necessarily on the comedy musical side but "la la land" has done very well this morning, getting a nomination. for best musical comedy one for emma and ryan up against another ryan, ryan reynolds for "deadpool" in that. >> ryan reynolds. >> the track is pretty clear for "la la land." as for best drama, you know that's a really impressive group we have right here. we have "hacksaw ridge," that's

the mel gibson movie that stars andrew garfield, and also got a nomination this time for saving lives instead of slinging webs. "manchester by the sea," "moonlight" and "lion." >> casey affleck got a nomination and he's one of the favorites in that category. denzel washington up there also, i think the category that's loaded is actress drama. you have got amy adams, issa rae, and natalie portman as jackie alongside jessica chastain again so a lot of movies in great shape and have to say the movies the top contenders continue to be the top contenders. "la la land," you've got "moonlight" and you've got "manchester by the sea." these are deep, you know, powerful movies. they are not major wild, crazy audience pleasers except for "la la land." >> "la la land" is -- i was going to say it's got a beautiful message but really is also very magical and takes you along the way. >> sweeps you away and love love when you watch it. >> i love the movie. >> ryan gosling not too shabby.

in tv any surprises for you? >> well, always seems like there's something, you know, unusual being -- we have great performance for "black-ish" this morning. >> all right. a cologne named scorsese any day. so -- >> what do the globes tell you about the oscars? >> usually are the first -- they're the begin of the end, the last time they get to weigh in. next time we'll see the guild, the people that make the movies so i think of this as the first cut. you know, this is like the people who are likely to be around for the oscar nominations. again these seem to be the lead. >> no big surprises. >> not anything huge. this movie is so heartfelt and hits every emotion. what was it like for you to play this damaged character and this mother who loves her son so much? >> i have to say, it was a lot of hard work, and she is a very tricky, complex woman, but i was delighted to be able to, you know, give her the full humanity that she deserves. because, you know, she does love her son, but she has this terrible addiction which turns her into this kind of demon as well. >> you're no stranger to big hollywood movies like what? "skyfall" and "miami vice". what was it like to work on this set? >> it was great in a way to work with a small group of people and they were so passionate about the script, and it feels much

more collaborative when you work on a smaller budget movie. i like intimate films like
