an incredible crash in oakland. this car took out two utility poles before crashing into a lawn dro mat and crashing upside down. the driver left behind a passenger trapped inside. thanks for joining us today. >> kristen will be in later today. that passenger is in critical condition as workers clean up the scene. more discoveries are being made now in the front seat of the car. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at foothill boulevard and 23rd avenue. >> reporter: foothill is still blocked as crews work to replace

power lines. neighbors say it has been very upsetting but they were most upset when they saw all the beer in the front seat of the car. when the car flipped and came to a stop here on foothill boulevard at 5:30 this morning. residents heard and felt it. they didn't think the boom they heard could be from a car crash. >> i thought it was ap earthquake. because it shook the buildings and then when we jumped up and saw everything, we tried to call 911 on cell phones and hooked up to wi-fi, we couldn't get through. >> reporter: tracey daniels wanted to help the men inside. two utility poles had come crashing down of the she didn't know if she could safely across the street. >> scared and angry and sad. i knew someone was in there and there was nothing we could do. so i can't, it was sad. >> she then saw the driver run away and left behind the passenger who was critically injured. witnesses watched as emergency

crews saved him and took him to the hospital. >> it was chaotic. it was wow, i couldn't believe it, i see the sparks flying, you know what i'm saying? i see the car like, boom, you know. >> reporter: when the car was flipped over, beer cans tumbled on the street. a case of beer could be seen in the front seat. all of this happening a block away from garfield elementary school. >> thank god it wasn't like school time, was not in full force yet because a lot of the kids walk down this way and come to the school. >> reporter: the power is still out to a couple of residential buildings here and also the laundry mat. they think it will be a few more hours until we get the area clear. abc 7 news. >> that really is a mess. new details involving another accident in oakland this morning. a vehicle hit a man in a wheelchair and it appears to be a paratransit bus that was

involved. sky 7 was overhead near lyndon street. that happened shortly after 5:30 this morning. police closed off 40th street. the driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. >> chp investigating the case of a messy accident in menlo park. you're looking from highway 101 near the will loi road accident. a mini van crashed into a tree at 3:30 this morning and the tree came crashing down on the exit ramp. two people are hurt and drugs are alcohol may be to blame. >> good morning, we're on storm watch. i know it's sunny outside. first time we've seen this much sunshine in days. we look ahead to thursday, couple of chances tomorrow but thursday is going to be the big storm for all of us. it's a very strong 2, borderline 3 which means it's moderate with 1 to 2 inches of rain and some strong gusty winds. in fact those winds will start

piece of plywood with the words beach access closed. you can see why they don't want people down there. >> the problem with sinkholes, they don't go away. in fact this problem in pacifica is only getting bigger. this photo was taken on friday about tara, you can see two sinkholes around the concrete path. flash forward to sunday, the sinkhole ate away at the path. this is drone video shot by local photography dave moorehouse. erosion is eating away at the only coastal access path. >> to see this whole area destroyed like it is, unprecedented. >> reporter: earth crumbled underneath 310 avenue last week. that apartment complex was yellow tagged last winter. two other buildings were recently demolished because of erosion. it's obvious why people want to live here. the view is spectacular and

until recently a walk on the beach was just a stroll away. >> i thought about buying in this area specifically because i like to take my dog to the beach every morning and for this exact reason decided not to. >> reporter: the city says ocean air apartment complex is responsible for the management of this path. it is private property. workers there referred me to their corporate office in southern california and we have yet to hear back from them. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> asking for your help tracking down the suspect in the video accused of robbing a disabled man at gun point. it started when the suspect road up behind the victim on his bike and knocked him to the ground after helping him out. bicyclist pulled out a gun and stole the cell phone and pedaled off. police just released this video this morning hoping to crack the case. the victim is unable to speak and can't provide much information. if you know anything about this,

please call san jose police. >> also new at 11:00, alameda police didn't have a clue who this man was until now. they haven't released his name but they say sharing the story helped locate his family and make a positive identification. >> federal officials have wrapped up their on site investigation in oakland just over a week after the ghost ship fire and plan to update us tomorrow morning which we'll bring to you live during the newscast. they don't think the fire was started intentionally and there's also a chance they rule the cause as undetermined even after a special mapping team came in from washington, d.c. do help out. there was a benefit event for the 36 victims last night in san francisco. moby flew in for the show and proceeds went to the families. >> i participated in ghost ship events and my heart goes out -- there are no words. >> over the weekend the first two victims were laid to rest. services were held for jonathan

they also shut down recount efforts in michigan. wisconsin could be completed by tonight. recounts were not on president-elect's mind this weekend. denying reports that the russians helped him win the election. >> mr. trump is calling all of this sour grapes. >> reporter: the controversy and debate over russian hacking not dying down. over the weekend on twitter and fox news, president-elect donald trump slamming a "washington post" report that russia interfered in the u.s. election to give him an advantage. >> i think it's ridiculous. it's another excuse. i don't believe it. >> trump has never believed the russian government was behind the hacking. this despite 17 known u.s. intelligence agencies concluding that the russian government directed the hacking. the director of national intelligence and department of homeland security releasing a public statement in october. a spokesman for the kremlin saying the allegation has nothing to do with reality.

her lawyers turned the spotlight on the police department behind these videos. they argue the police department staged this encounter and posted it online to impress the crew of the tv show "cops." attorneys for dippolito say it tainted the integrity of the investigation. >> posted on the youtube for the whole world to see in six minutes. >> you keep changing the time. >> you think this is funny, ma'am? >> i don't, now you're saying it's six minutes. >> this is the second time dippolito is charged for the alleged crime. an appellate court reversed the conviction. in an interview with amy ro back, she maintained her innocence. >> did you want your husband dead? >> no, absolutely not. >> did you hire a hit man to killi your husband? >> no. >> closing arguments could start as early as this afternoon.

a four lane highway covered in so much snow that it is now nearly impassable. slick roads also triggering accidents, including a 33 car pileup near flint, michigan. look at this in detroit, a delta flight skidded off the runway. all 70 on board are okay. 3,000 delays and 600 cancellations because of the weather. here's a live look from the sfo camera. what a contrast. a spokesperson tells us there are a few minor delays going to newark or jfk, no delays or cancellations at oakland and san jose airports, officials recommend before you go, signing up for flight status alerts with the airline and all of the rest. >> if you're in the bay area, we're tracking rain this morning and king tides. we've already hit or peak this morning, tomorrow and wednesday you can expect high tides over 7 feet. they occur every year when the earth is closest to the sun and the orbit is closest to the

it's not going to have much of an impact on the temperatures. you can see the higher clouds there and that's what we'll have filtered sunshine and mid-50s at 4:00. low 50s at 6:00 and 8:00 it's going to be getting chilly, 40. tomorrow morning is going to be cooler than this morning. north bay valleys and san ramon, 30s, everybody else in the low to mid 40s. tomorrow morning, 9:00, but watch scattered showers develop and become a morsteaddy rain as we head towards 5:00. it will try to dip down to san francisco and oakland, maybe a few rogue showers you can see there but by far the rain will mainly in the north bay. check out the rain totals for wednesday evening. absolutely nothing from san francisco southward and eastward. a third to possibly an inch from the valleys to the mountains in the north bay. my concern is on that thursday
