good afternoon. thanks for joining us. i'm lail larry beil. >> and i'm kristen sze in for ama daetz. crews are on the scene of a collapsed walkway in pacifica. whether. >> they are trying to shore up the trail on esplanade avenue. work under way late this afternoon on sky 7. >> sergio quintna is live with a look at the problem and what they are doing. sergio? >> reporter: this afternoon, crews brought in this massive pumping rig. i've already counted about six cement trucks come in. you can see that arm. it extends all the way down, almost all to the beach level where it's pumping concrete to fill in the base of that big sinkhole. a huge cement pumping truck was brought in to begin fixing a

portion of the sea wall that washed out during the weekend storms. drone video shot this afternoon shows the lower section of the wall without any sand or rock supporting its base. >> sand just, you know, washed away and that's why we have a big cavity. >> reporter: the sand behind the sea wall was carved out because of rain runoff and a drainage pipe that broke. concrete will shore up the base of the wall again and crews will refill the walkway with sand. >> popular walkway, is it going to rehope? >> of course. > it's supposed to open hopefully by the end of this week. >> the preparations for the cement pure stirred a bit of excitement and concern. workers installed a chain link fence on the overlook and then two men tethered down the side of the hill to take a look at how much of the base was washed out. one resident whose apartment faces the cliff says he was concerned for the worker's safety. >> the concern there is you don't go down anywhere by yourself when you're involving the ocean with a piece of land that just slid 50, 60 feet.

>> reporter: fire department was called in and ask the contractor's action plan and moved on. a coast guard environmental team was also here to make sure no contaminants were part of the washout. >> we came down other today just to get an assessment of what kind of pollution risks there may be along the shore line here. obviously we can't go down since the beach is secured. that's a safety concern. >> had to walk a couple miles south to get beach access and then walk all the way back. sergio quintana, abc 7 news. >> there could be more emotion this week as another storm moves in. >> i thought you were going to say emojis about the erosion which is possibility. you'll see a happy emoji with a live look outside at the east bay hills camera. a gorgeous sunset coming. >> spencer christian with a look at the forecast. >> the clouds are making the sunset rather colorful. live doppler 7 clouds increasing and that pattern will continue overnight. a current look and take you through the evening hours as the clouds increase tomorrow night and early tomorrow morning. we'll see temperatures mainly in the upper 40s to low 50s, and then as we get later into the

day tomorrow and into the evening hours we'll see showers developing into the north bay and maybe a sprinkle or two south dakota of the golden gate and most of that will stay up and the storm for wednesday will be mainly a north bay event and a storm of light intensity producing a quarter inch to maybe three-quarters of an inch in the wettest locations of the bay. a stronger storm comes in on thursday and this is the one where we're keeping an eye on right now. we're ranking it two on the storm impact scale and it will be a strong 2. we're not quite ready to call it a 3 and this will be a pretty powerful storm and you can download the abc 7 news app and enabling push alefrmts i'll have more coming up a little later. larry? >> thank you, spencer. we have breaking news in san francisco. a man has been stabbed to death in the castro district. sky 7 flew over that scene a short time ago. the fatal stack occurred outside the post office at 18th and diamond streets. police officers found the man with a knife in his crest.

this was just before 3:00 this afternoon and he died at the scene. so far the police have not shared any descriptions of a suspect or what may have led to the stabbing. oakland police are investigating an accident that killed a man in a wheelchair this morning. sky 7 was over the scene on 40th street neared a line. you can see a wheelchair a few feet in front of that van. that is an east bay paratransit vehicle. the driver says he was heading to pick up a passenger when he spotted the 56-year-old man lying on the street with the wheelchair next to him. police say the driver of the car that hit the man stayed on the scene and talked with investigators. >> all right. now to a wild crash in oakland, really kind of played out like a movie. this car took out two utility poles before crashing into a laundromat and the driver ran away leaving a passenger trapped inside. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield has the details. >> reporter: when the car flipped and came to a stop here on foothill boulevard around 5:30 this morning. residents heard and felt it.

but they didn't think that the boom they heard could be from a car crash. >> i thought it was an earthquake because it shook the buildings, and -- and then when we jumped up and saw everything, we tried to call 911 on the cell phones and, of course, it hooked up to wi-fi so we couldn't get through. >> reporter: tracy daniels wanted to run over and help the men inside. the two utility poles had come crashing down. she didn't know if she could safely cross the street. >> scared, angry, sad, because i knew someone was in there, and it was nothing we can do, so, yeah, it was sad. >> she then saw the driver run away. he left behind his passenger who police say was critically injured. witnesses watched as emergency crews saved him and took him to the hospital. >> it was chaotic and it was just, wow, i just couldn't believe it, the sparks were flying and i seen the sparks flying, you know what i'm saying. seeing the car like boom. >> reporter: when the car was flipped over, beer cans tumbled on to the street. a case of beer could be seen in

the front seat. all of this happening a block away from garfield elementary school. >> thank god it wasn't like school time. it was not in full force yet because a lot of them kids walk down this way and come to the school. >> reporter: after police cleared the scene, pg&e then moved in to replace those two utility poles that came down and restored power to a few customers here on this block. in oakland, amy hollifield, abc 7 news. the u.s. senate passed a resolution honoring the 36 ghost ship fire victims and commended first responders for working tirelessly under difficult conditions. the atf has completed its investigation into the fire and will hold had a news conference tomorrow. investigators do not think the fire was started intentionally. people continue to come to this memorial at the scene. one person is urging landlords to sell. >> these landlords, they can take that money they sell. the property goes to another city, right? go somewhere else.

>> over the weekend two victims were laid to rest. services were held for video jockey jonathan personbalm and the youngest victim 17-year-old dravin mcgill. >> police are looking for your help in tracking down this suspect accused of robbing a man with disabilities at gunpoint this. started when the suspect rode up behind the victim on his bike and then knocked him to the ground. after helping the victim up, the victim who can't speak pulled out his phone to try to communicate with the man and at that point the bicyclist grabbed the cell phone and took off. the attack happened back in september, but police just released the video today hoping to try to crack the case. san jose is adding fluoride to its waters today affecting 230,000 people in east san jose, and santa teresa who are customers of the san jose water company. parts of campbell and milipitas and los scatos are also

included. this will make dentists very happy. >> kristen, to give you a little perspective, more than two-thirds of the country have fluoride in their water. now there's always opposition when you talk fluoride in the water but health experts overwhelmingly agree it's safe including the cdc and dentists i spoke to today say it will be about five years when we see an improvement in the oral health of children. >> he's only 3. >> reporter: this doctor shows us dental x-rays. >> all these dark areas right there. >> reporter: 9 out of 20 teeth have cavities. >> when i see that, you know, i always think to myself, i mean, this is something which could be prevented. >> reporter: which is why health advocates worked for more than a decade to get fluoride in san jose's drinking water. >> the state of oral health for low-income children is really abysmal and we can do treatmented a more treatment and we're also doing oral health education, that's not enough and fluoride can really make a

difference. >> starting today fluoride is flowing into the water at the santa teresa water treatment plant. more than 20,000 customers are affected but you won't notice a difference in taste or apeerpts at the tap because the fluoride is so diluted. >> the optimal amount of .7 parts per million and there's and that's what we're aiming for to get that optimum amount. >> the water district board voted unanimously for flord i'dization after hearing opposition. >> we've heard all sides of the issues over many years and have maintained their policy. >> reporter: health and dental organizations and water rates funded the $5.4 million upgrades to water treatment facilities. efforts to get the rest of the city fluoride are under way. in san jose abc 7 news. >> abc 7 news was at this school

as restoration crews began setting up today. somebody broke the clasp on a sound morning and only one classroom was impacted. the principal praised the fire department for getting this quickly and compounding the f e fire. >> abc 7 news sources confirm a report that first appeared on nfl.com that league officials and members of the raid efforts brass met with the lott group and that meeting may still be going. belt behind. it's the first known meeting between all these parties and comes a day before the oakland city council and the alameda county supervisors vote on the offer proposed by nfl hall of famer ronnie lott. >> people waiting in ticket in line and online just to get tickets to see "hamilton."

now developments today in a story we brought you a few months back. >> little city gardens in san francisco were asked to vacate its land on kotter street. neighbors try unsuccessfully to keep the farm and now a small school will take its place. >> lyanne melendez is live from mission terrace where the last crops have been pulled. lyanne? >> reporter: you know, this was sort of the place that brought neighbors together and how many neighborhoods in san francisco have a gem like this up. this farm was full of leafy greens and other vegetables and now it's all gone. little city gardens has been in san francisco's mission terrace neighborhood for the past six years. despite community support the farm moved out today. >> pulling the last of our annual crops and dug out our perennials and a lot of various farm and garden projects around the bay area that we'll find homes for. >> reporter: i feel very heartbr heartbroken. >> reporter: kate levitt

discovered her love of farming here and has been volunteering ever since the one-acre piece of land located at 203 kotter street was not owned by little city gardens. two years ago a small school called golden bridges bought it the for $is.2 million with the intent of moving out of its present location and into the wide open space. more than 70% of the parcel would remain in open space areas with a small structure and neighbors are concerned of the amount of traffic the school will bring even though the school will ask parents to drop kids off at nearby balboa park and walk in a group from there. >> it's just a big unknown so hopefully we're just hoping that the school is going to be as good a community partner. >> they have helped retain rain water in an area known for flooding. >> you see the sandbags right there. they are usually across the street also. >> the school could open as early as september 2018.

>> children spend a lot of their time indoors and not moving and not experiencing nature so we're getting them out. they are looking to allow urban farmers to have some kind of security. in san francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. >> south bay teenagers could face criminal charges for allegedly sharing pictures of nude teens online. police are investigating several students who they say posted the photos of two students who were both minors. the pictures were sexually explicit and the case is being looked at by the d.a. to see if charges will be filed. >> an article from the center for investigative reporting says a former security specialist

claims he was fired by uber in retaliation for blowing the whistle on alleged security lapses. in a statement uber said it enforces strict policies and technical controls to limit access to user data. meanwhile, muni is blasting a state agency for allowing so many uber and lyft drivers on san francisco streets. the examiner reports muni is blasting the california public utilities commission for failing to reasonably limit the industry's explosive growth. reports say there are $45,000 lyft and uber drivers on the city streets compared to only 1,800 taxi cabs. muni says that's why the streets are so congested. muni would like to see more regulations put in place to handle these services. hundreds of children attended a special event in san francisco recreating one of the most important feast days in mexico. abc 7 news was at st. mary's cathedral for a celebration of our lady of guadalupe. more than 800 children from bay area catholic schools saw a play

and then participated in singing and dancing. the kids also made bouquets to offer to the virgin mary. >> the program in general likes to plant the seed of love in the children and they already really have, but just to nourish and nourish it through the arts. >> the event was organized by francis in the school, a 5-year-old program that provides outings for teach to teach them about respect and kindness. turning to the weather now. a little break today but more rain is coming. >> right, ready. >> slow and steady approach and then all of a sudden whammo it will be here. official word of the meteorological lexicon, whammo. >> live doppler 7. we've got calm companies right now and clouds are increasing slowly just as the rain is approaching us slowly but later in the week we have quite a storm coming our way. this is the view from our rooftop camera looking out over the bay. a bit of sunlight there reflect off the clouds. too esare our forecast features and clouds will increase overnight and we'll have breezy

conditions with light rain tomorrow evening into early wednesday, but that will mainly be a north bay event and a stronger storm arriving on thursday. right now we have temperature readings mainly in the mid-50s and over some of our inland locations an temperatures are down into the low 50s and tomorrow under increasingly cloudy skies, highs will range from the mid-50s at the coast to mainly upper 50s to around 60 at the bay and inland and at some point tomorrow we may see light showers develop over the north bay and perhaps a sprinkle or two will move southward but generally whatever develops tomorrow will stay in the north bay through wednesday and that storm, that first one approaching us ranks one on the storm impact scale, a storm of light intensity and it will produce a quarter of an inch to three-quarters of an inch and a north bay event. taking us into 8:00 wednesday morning and throughout the day wednesday we'll see that moisture remain confined to the north bay and then wednesday night we'll see the area of heavier rain, the stronger storm beginning to pout southward. by 7:00 thursday morning most of the north bay will be covered by

this system, and you can see the areas indicated here in orange and red. those are areas of moderate to heavy rainfall so it will be a wide path of moderate to heavy rainfall and for that storm mostly had a thursday storm we give it a rank of two. a storm of moderate intensity with soaking rain and gusty wind. it will produce generally three-quarter of an inch to an inch and a half of rain for urban areas and two to 4 inches of rain could fall along the coast and in the higher terrain. forecast animation starting at midnight. notice that area of heavy rain starts pushing southward by company thursday morning. it will be wet all over the north bay and by 10:00 thursday morning. it will be all over the bay area and heaviest rain right through the central part of the region and it will continue its southward push later in the day. it will be accompanied by strong gusty winds and here's the winds showing winds on thursday gusting between 30 and 40 miles per hour for much of the bay area and rainfall totals we project will range anywhere from nearly an inch at livermore and concord. this is by thursday to well over an inch in virtually every other location.

popular beach pathway that collapsed in pacifica. a large piping truck is pumping contract into the affected area and it's unclear how long it will take before that area is open. reporter cornell bernard tweeted a photo showing the effects of recent rain and the coming king tide. tonight at 5:00 cornell talks to people planning for the tied and return of heavy rain. and laura anthony tweeted that people are pouring in to play their respects to the 36 people who died at the ghost ship warehouse and at 5:00 the special tribute people have for tonight. and donald trump's inner circle continues to take shape with another general for a top position and however the president-elect is focused on the cia findings that the russia hackers impacted the election in his favor. abc 7 news reporter karen strafrs live with the later. >> reporter: good afternoon. the cia said russia did this hacking to help elect donald trump but some other officials in the u.s. intelligence community say they expect that russia expected little hill to

win in november and they were doing this to weaken her when she took office. now, the big question here in washington for lawmakers and analysts is what does the u.s. do next to send a message? growing calls for a thorough investigation into russia's hacking during the presidential campaign. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell was blunt. >> the russians are not our friends. it denies belief that somehow republicans in the senate are reluctant to either review russian tactics or ignore them >> reporter: white house wouldn't comment on what russia's motives may be, but the president's spokesman drew a line between the kremlin's interference and president-elect donald trump. >> didn't need a security clearance to figure out who benefitted from malicious russian cyber activity. >> reporter: over the weekend on twitter and fox news, trump slamming a "washington post" report that russia interfered in the election to give him an advantage. >> i think it's ridiculous. i think it's just another

excuse. i don't believe it. >> reporter: trump has never believed the russian government was behind the hacking, this despite 17 known u.s. intelligence agencies concluding that the russian government directed the hacking. a spokesman for the kremlin saying the charge today, quote, has nothing to do with reality. this public showdown between the president-elect and the intelligence community is unusual, especially in light of the statement by trump on fox news when asked about his infrequent intelligence briefings. >> you know, i'm like a smart person. i don't have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. >> reporter: and some members. electoral college have now asked the government for a briefing on russia's election interference. today the clinton campaign threw their through their chairman john podesta says it supports the efforts and the electors should have their questions addressed. kristen. >> before you go, what can you tell us about trump's meetings today, including one with carly

fiorina, the former hp ceo. >> reporter: yeah, there's a lot of buzz about carly fiorina possibly being named the director of national intelligence overseeing some 17 agencies for the u.s. intelligence gathering. carly fiorina came out after that meeting and spoke to reporters, but she would not get into details about what she is or is not being considered for. she said it was a productive meeting with drew. they talked about china and talked about hacking, not necessarily those two things connected though, and she said that donald trump has a lot of opportunity to reset the economy and reset the u.s. role on the world stage and no details about what maybe she was offered or is being considered as being offered for a cabinet position. kristen? >> karen, thank you. and speaking of tech ceos, tim cook and cheryl sandberg and tim page are among the silicon valley tech leaders who are scheduled to meet with donald

trump and the meeting is notable because most of them criticized donald trump and they are expected to talk about tax codes, trade deals. >> the recounts into the 2016 presidential election and today a federal judge rejected a green party backed request of a recount of pennsylvania's election results. a federal judge blocked a recount effort in mississippi and wisconsin officials announced this afternoon their recount is over and reaffirmed that mr. trump won that state by 22,000 votes. police in germany are looking for a man who kicked a woman down a stairway at a train station. some might find this video disturbing, we do want to warn you. it happened in berlin in okay. you can see the woman walk by heading for the stairs. well, watch the man with a cigarette holding what looks to be a beer as he kicks the woman in the back causing her to tumble down the steep staircase. the woman broke her arm. a reward of about $13,000 u.s. has been offered now for the

man's capture. it was a rare sunday night verdict in the rode rage trial of a man accused of killing former new orleans saints player will smith. abc news reporter elizabeth hur with the details. the verdict is in and the man who shot and killed former saints star and super bowl winner will smith is guilty. >> i pray for all the families. >> reporter: cardel hayes's family says while he respects the decision his team will regroup. the jury voted 10-3 to convict hayes of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter for shooting smith's wife. prosecutors called the road rage incident an execution. hayes argued it was self-defense claiming smith punched him three or four times and that smith grabbed a gun from his car, even testifying i didn't want to kill will smith. i didn't want to kill nobody. i knew for a fact that i was going to get shot. >> even though this verdict does

teammates mark sanchez was one of the pallbearers. joe mcknight was only 28 years old. authorities file formal corruption charges today against a one-time rising star in the republican star. former illinois congressman aaron schock is accused of using government and campaign money to subsidize an extravagant lifestyle. questions were sparked in reports that he redecorated in the lavish style of "downton abbey." shock says he's innocent. still to come at 4:00, cleaning up after the storm and where that cold arctic blast is expected to hit next. >> i'm michael finney. facebook, twitter and e-mail. let's start with ken from fremont asking i have a non-operational vehicle so is it legal to mark it in the driveway? >> there are two things you have to do with this, and most people don't know it, but, first of all, even a non-operating vehicle has to be registered with the dmvt.only costs $20 bucks a year and you fill out a form and certify you won't drive it and keep the $20 bucks and then you have to deal with your city or county depending on where you live and i do not believe they will allow you to fenway park in the driveway because you see those cars where they slowly kind of start sinking in. you can put it in your garage and put it in your backyard and can't put it in public generally and you need to check with your local government. >> next skwae little long here. pat asks the city of san francisco has a program called bank on for low-income people. >> yeah. >> what's going to happen to all the accounts now at wells fargo that have been closed. wells fargo was one of the participating banks in the program until its accounts scandal >> you know a lot about it.

here's the deal. wells fargo, the city and county of san francisco is no longer going to refer people to wells fargo but all those accounts are still good and if you have an account at wells fargo through this program which is a low-cost account for low-income people you can keep the account and move the account. the city doesn't care, it's fine. they are just no longer going to refer people to wells fargo. got it the. >> cheryl's got a question saying i own my home and get medical and i think of getting a reverse mortgage when i'm 62 in two years. will i be table do that mowing that there's a medical thing hon house? >> assuming it's not attached to the house, can you add madecal and that does not hurt when you you go to get a reverse mortgage. here's what will hurt you. if you owe a medical bill and you haven't paid that and they have attached that to the house. you'll have to wipe that out. i don't know of anyone that will actually give you a reverse mortgage if you have that hanging on there so if you have that you'll need to take care of it.
