thanks for joining us. >> the state is telling uber to get the cars off the streets immediately or else, and some drivers are already documenting issues with the self-driving cars. here's abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow with late-breaking details. >> on the same day irish ruled out its self-driving vehicles in san francisco the california department of motor vehicles sent uber a letter saying it must stop the service until it gets a state permit writing any action by uber to continue the operation of vehicles equipped with autonomous technology on public streets in california must cease until uber complies. uber has said it does not believe it needs a permit because a person is still behind the wheel monitoring the vehicle. >> it's dangerus. i mean, i mean, what if the whole operation were to malfunction? couldn't that cause like a catastrophe and maybe take a life. >> one taxi driver posted dashcam video of what appeared

to be unuber self-driving vehicle running a red light. uber said the incident was due to human error and that the vehicle was not part of the pilot for was it carrying customers. the driver involved was suspended. since debuting its self-driving vehicles three months ago in pittsburgh uber has said it has had no serious accidents to report. they will be sharing the roads with cyclists, pedestrians and lots of traffic. where some see danger others along busy market street see opportunity. >> i would try it because it eliminates human error. only time will tell. california dmv says it will take legal action if uber does not obtain a testing permit. in the san francisco. melanie road row, abc news. >> coming up at 6:00, 7 on your side's michael finney takes a closer look at the legal aspects and whether uber is breaking the law. >> tonight yahoo is dealing with another major breach. late this afternoon the company announced more than 1 billion

users may have been exposed to an august 2013 hack. the stolen information may include names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers and birthdays. the sunnyvale-based company believes users credit and bank account information was not compromised. yahoo is notifying users who might have been affected. in a statement tonight the company says yahoo encourages users to review all of their online accounts for suspicious activity and change their passwords and security questions. yahoo believes this attack is separate from the one it announced in september. that one affected 500 million users. >> now to the storm headed our way that could pack a wallop. >> set to slam into our region tomorrow. >> king kooids pose a problem for some people including this driver caught offguard by the water. his white utility van was drapd trapped in the rising tide by the bay bridge toll plaza this afternoon. >> abc 7 news meteorologist

sandhya patel is tracking it all for us. what can we expect and when. >> we'll be seeing downpours, dan and kristen and also strong winds. we're just tracking the moisture ahead of the system and taking you a little bit closer, we have the evening rush. street level radar and santa rosa and highway 101, definitely slick out there and also parts of the east bay between san leandro and san lorenzo as we take you down to the street level and 880 and here is the storm that's coming and it's going to pound the bay area. it's a 3 on the storm impact scale. we haven't seen this kind of intensity of a storm in nine months so it's going to bring some gusts to 50 miles per hour. 1 to 2 inches of rain for most of you. 2 to 5 inches for the hill meaning wind damage and flooding potential and here's a look at the watches and warnings and flood watch for mendecino county until late tomorrow night. rock and mud slides, ponding on the roadways and a warning starts at 10:00 tomorrow until

friday. debris flows and flash flooding and a high wind watch. coastal areas and mountains, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and watch out for trees going down and power lines going down, and it is going to be rough driving on the highways. i'll be back with an hour-by-hour look at the time line coming up. dan, kristen? >> thanks, sandhya. >> the heavy rain is going to hit as so often is the case the north bay first. >> wayne freedman joins us live from lucky drive in marin county. >> reporter: it's not exactly a lull in the storm. we've had rain on and off in marin county in the north bay all day long. not exactly the proverbial 40 days and 40 nights and people around here are worried about what's coming tomorrow. here's an anomaly and an overflow where rainfall to this point of the year is 120% of normal and reservoirs at 83% capacity. that is good news here. if the rest of the state had has much water as marin county would

advisories where you live. it works very well. investigator still have no suspect in the death of a castro valley widow. they say her body and home were set on fire to destroy evidence on the scene. abc 7 news reporter elissa harrington is live on grove way tonight where a mobile crime unit has been set up. >> reporter: fear among neighbors is this could have been a random attack and tonight nobody feels safe. we've seen investigators search the garage where that woman's body was found. they say she was a longtime resident of the street who never had any problems. >> well, we're very concerned. as anybody would be. ths is something that hasn't happened. >> had a homicide and arson investigate has this quiet castro valley neighborhood on edge. >> suspicious of everything. >> a 49-year-old woman was

killed and her house set on fire to burn the evidence. sky 7 video shows the smokey scene on grove way early tuesday morning. deputies won't reveal the victim's fame or cause of death. neighbors say she was a widow who lived alone. >> i feel bad for her. she was a person trying to live a normal life and some horrible thing like this happened. >> everybody without question says this lady is nothing short of a wonderful woman so there's no indication of why this would happen to her. >> reporter: crime scene investigators have been at the scene since the fire first broke out around 2:45 a.m. tuesday. their focusing, the garage, where the woman's body was found. at one point they uncovered and searched a storm drain out front. one neighbor has several cameras in his front yard and has reveed the footage but won't reveal what they found. >> in this day and age all we

can do is be vigilant and make sure our cams race are up and running. >> reporter: they have made no arrests and have no motive. ilyssa haitianton, abc 7 news. >> authorities say 47-year-old mar weber beat his neighbor after a fight last friday. police say he called 911 and told the dispatcher, quote, he killed his neighbor with the bat. when officers arrived they nountd victim with major injuries. he is now hospitalized and weber escaped and remains on the loose. federal officials are strongly suggesting they look into two incidents of sbarsment at palo alto high and gunn high school. a former principal was investigated for sexual harassment and stepped down in 2013. the u.s. department of education says the district needs to find out if students were subjected to sexual harassment when the principal was there.

>> the highway patrol has ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in a tragic crash that killed three marin county men on october 18th. 18-year-old chance moore and his two passengers 20-year-old chancellor and lance a lot were killed when the car they were crashed into a tree as you can see with devastating consequences. the cmp was driving above the speed limit between 75 and 95 miles per hour of the crash. >> a united front and meeting of the minds but it was a lot different last week. coming up, the oakland fire and the new pact on code enforcement. also ahead, the privacy policy that's not so private. the bay area company sparking public outcry. >> and setting a new stanford for computer manufacturers everywhere. >> also here for you, the surprise findings about women and abortions.

police stopped and searched santa clara valley vehicles. more live from san jose on what happened. >> yes, kristen, they searched trains and buses and even searched the suspect's home but they did not find any bomb-making materials. valley transportation trains and buttes are back on schedule after a bomb threat this morning. >> for the most part i keep my surroundings pretty aware and whoever i'm with i make sure they are safe as well so it's pretty scary knowing that this happened this morning. >> three calls came into vta's customer service center. the first one shortly after 9:00 when a man threatened to jump in front of a train. minutes later he called again

and then -- and then the third phone call came in at 9:31 when the individual threatened to carry out a suicide bombing. >> vta notified the sheriff's office and transit control officers after the first call. two others later officers located the suspect. 42-year-old jonathan keim at a fast food restaurant in sap jose. he had also e-mails a radio station which notified pda. >> the sheriff's transit patrol office arrested the suspect in the vicinity of highway 87. he did not have weapons or explosives in his possession. >> reporter: sheriff's deputies did not find bomb-making materials. they say kei salma known vta passenger. >> i don't see why there was a terrorist thing to vta. there's nothing really wrong with vta so it's like why would you harm vta. >> reporter: he's charged with making a false bomb threat. in san jose, lonni rivera, abc 7 news. >> two men had to be rescued

with a heard after their victorian house burst into flames. the firing are raged on east 19th street. the two men were in an upstairs back apartment and they were trapped. they could climb down and all six people were displaced but the good news is no one was hurt. the cause is under investigation. huge flamed damages a warehouse and the building is known as the wright brothers warehouse. storage for a furniture business and copperfield's books among others. no one was hurt here either. >> in the wake of last week's deadly fire in observing land, many people are coming together including some who are at odds just days ago. aches 7 was at this restaurant where two groups of working

together and the daughter of the restaurant owner say both the mother and owner have received hateful messages. >> we received an e-mail calling us the "n" word and i'm very emotional. >> in order for us to heal there must be some form of expression of support for those individuals who have been hurt. >> this afternoon a contractor and fire inspector took a look at the art collective. the collective says it has fire extinguishers and smoke alarms but admits it is not totally in compliance. >> all right. well, you know, your low-calorie lunch might have more in it than you thought. >> and lazy criminals are coming after you this holiday season. 7 on your side's michael anyony is here with more on that. >> bad criminalsle. now we've got lazy guys coming after you us and now big concern in a big jump of attacks on our computers. the attackers try to get you to

open e-mails and click on a link and as soon as they do they look the files on your computer. they call this the lady man's crime because it takes little work to get you to pay up. to avoid trouble be skeptical about the real source of e-mails and never click on a link unless you are sure you can trust it. this has been a major problem this holiday season. you may recall one of the most famous hacker stories of the past year, a breach of ashley madison, a site meant for extra marital affairs. now they have agreed to pay $1.6 million to settle claims misleading its users. the site promised to protect the identity of marital cheerts and sta hackers also revealed the site fabricated millions of female user profiles. authorities said the so-called fembots were used to lure male

customers. this affected 36 million users worldwide. when is a preservative not a preservative? the question comes up in a class action lawsuit against the mkers of lean cuisine frozen foods. the suitca says the nestle compy falsely claims that lean cuisine entrees are preservative free and the meals contain can i trick acid which can be used as a preservative and it can also be used to enhance flavors. so when is an ingredient an ingredient? >> that's a rhetorical question, thank you. scientists found that having an abortion has little affect on a woman's health. in fact, women are found to be much more emotionally stress federal they are denied an abortion. the five-year study followed nearly 1,000 women in 21 states who south abortions. meanwhile the fda today issued a warning about giving

roadways out there and this is the light stuff ahead of this storm and taking it down to street level between windsor, santa rosa and old redwood highway. do have some raindrops and right around bancroft avenue and between castro valley and 580. you'll be noticing that the roads are thick and upper 50s to the low 60s and san francisco to san jose really comfortable weather, but it's windshield wiper weather in san rafael and traffic is not doing too good. only going to get worse tomorrow night. mid-50s to mid-60s from santa rosa and you can see the clouds stacked up as we look across the embarcadero. >> a strong storm arrives early in the morning. looking at windy rainy conditions for your evening commute and there is a possibility of flooding and power outages so on our storm impact scale that is 1. a strong storm not to be taken lightly and gusts with 1 to 2 inches of rain and 2 to 5 inches

expected for hills. low lying flooding especially on the roadways and wind damage is possible as the winds will knock down drese and power lines. a look at the rush hour tomorrow evening. heavy rain and localized flooding and the power lines and trees coming down could mean some potential major problems. tomorrow morning we start out your commute. unless there's some rain it's very spotty in nature and the north bay is covered by light to moderate rain. we start to see some damp roadways and at 7:00 a.m. you'll notice heavier rain and you'll notice it's so far focused north and everywhere else. by 1:00 p.m. is really gets going and this is going to be the worst time to hit the roadways, around 3:00 p.m. the afternoon and evening rush hour is going to be very

difficult and you'll notice east bay peninsula and some reds popping up there, intense rainfall and 9:00 p.m. tomorrow night and the rain line begins to end and we'll see the scattered showers, and in terms of rainfall totals. anywhere from 1 to 3 inches and indicating up to 6 to 8 inches. the winds will be really gusty as we head into tomorrow morning. about 5 miles per hour along the cost and not out of the question for the evening rush and the winds will continue as we head into early tomorrow morning. we turn to snow and i would not recommend you even try up there tomorrow. winter storm watch noon tomorrow until 6:00 p.m. friday. 1 to 2 feet of snow expected and low visibilities and slippery roads and you know the drill. allow yourself extra time for the commute and 50s and in the 50s and 60s and a look at the

copyright case brought by cisco. they vuld that they did not violate the copyright nor infringe on its patents. they argued that arista copied a piece of the software and wanted $335 million in damages. arista countered the software has been widely adopted by many products and it's fair use. arista's stock jumped 3% after the ruling. redwood city base evernote is reading all your stuff. the app is designed for note-taking and organizing your personal lists. according to forbes they are using reading content to improve the aees machine reading technology. the group updated its privacy policy to reflect the add mission and even though you can opt out of the human review no way to do so unless you quit the service entirely. california has become the first state to approve energy efficient requirement for laptops, desktops and monitors. the energy commission approved new standards that will require
