three inches of rain. >> be so careful out there. this is what it looked like on miller avenue in mill valley earlier this afternoon. the heavy rain is causing flooding on roads all across the bay area now. >> thanks for joining us. from the north bay to the south bay, we have reporters all over the bay area covering the storm. first, we want to start with abc 7 news meteorologist. >> take a look at live doppler 7. we have seen intense rain, strong winds. right now it's still pretty wet. the intensity is not as widespread as earlier. we're seeing pockets of moderate rain. street level radar around castro valley. you'll notice pockets of yellow. pittsburgh area you are still seeing downpours right now as we take you down into your area. san francisco, lighter rain from the sunset to the bay view district. we're seeing pockets of brief downpours right around 280.

in the santa cruz mountains it was coming down hard. it's eased up. napa, fair field. it's wet. here are the watches and warnings you need to know about. also the san francisco peninsula and the east bay. this really means the ponding on the roadways can still occur. watch out. you'll notice and the napa river is definitely nearing flood stage. a flood warning is going until 10:24 tomorrow morning. on our storm impact this is a three. a strong storm. gust of 50 still possible with he have rain, flooding and possible wind damage.

all the water flooding nearby roadways. up the road this stretch of rohnert park expressway was closed entirely. closer to downtown this intersection at commerce and hunter was open, but barely passable for some cars. >> i wanted to come out here and see what it looked like in the rain. >> reporter: amos flynn said he and his father are in escrow on this property. >> we're looking to increase the farmland. it looks like everything is pretty flooded right now. >> give you any second thoughts? >> probably. probably some second thoughts on

it. >> reporter: look at it now. it's all clear. again, the rain has let up here at least for the moment. i can tell you all throughout this area there are plenty of roadways with standing water and the chp, the police want to make sure people know that it's not safe to drive through that water if it's more than a foot or so high. >> some driver forged standing water. this person was lucky but there were reports of one car that was stranded in the flood waters. just never a good idea to try this. the highway will remain closed for the next few hours. in marin county, this may be a common sight. look at that. this video from the public works. this is just one flooded road in wood acre. >> marin county is dealing with several issues.

flipped over. you can see a car ksitting n two feet of water. it's a well known hand crafted ceramic studio. in pacifica it wasn't so much the rain as it was the wind that got people's attention. abc 7 news was along when the wind whipped nonstop. the commute home along highway 17 is a tricky one. >> abc 7 news reporter joins us live now with more on the storm there. lonnie. >> reporter: a flash flood watch in effect here. you can see why the rain coming down pretty steadily. this is the commute right now which surprisingly things are moving right along. the storm is just getting started here. we'll have to see how things continue as the night

progresses. wind and rain knocked a tree limb on a power line along bean creek road in the santa cruz mountains. 80 residents lost power from this messy and wet situation. it's something p grkg&e crews expected during the storm. utility crews are expecting a very busy evening. >> this is first one but we're just getting started. probably be going all night keeping people energized. >> reporter: dark clouds hover over the tip of the south bay. bird watcher looks forward todays like this one. not exactly because he likes the rain. he's just fascinated by the type of wildlife it attracts. >> if you're going to see them, you have to be out of this kind of high tide. probably during the winter. i have arrived in my water

proofs almost certain in the knowledge i'm not going to see one. areas are the loma fire burned this past september and october are vulnerable for mudslides. people are keeping an eye out for sliding rocks and mud. you can see this commute. folks are heading home from work into santa cruz. as of now we have not seen any accidents. that's good news. that's the very latest reporting live here in santa cruz mountains. >> thank you very much. a sign that says subject to flooding, that turned prophetic today. it was under water as waves from the bay broke on itself. one fence walker tried to keep

this morning the national weather service recorded a gust that measured 106 miles an hour. that would have been equal to an f-1 tornado had the winds been sustained. >> or a strong getting to the sierra could be difficult when you see that. >> we have travel restrictions in place. let's talk about what's happening at yosemite at this hour. we could take a look at which roads are kind of treacherous at this hour. 140 itself is closing down at this hour after 5:00. it's going to be tough to get through there. there you go. we're noticing around 120 going towards yosemite village. it's closed. live doppler 7 showing you we're

tracking snow. it's not just a little snow. look at this. two to four feet. the highest peaks could see six feet of fresh powder throughout. they do not want anyone traveling there. we'll take you around lake tahoe at this hour. look at 80 and 50. there's no chain restrictions. it's just rain at this hour. it's going to take a while for the snow to really bring down. traveling across the state not golden to say the least. the rain is causing a giant mess on the roads here. >> it sure is. this is what it looks like in san francisco heading toward the bay bridge. cars are just barely inching along. >> this is what they are up against now. here is a live look at the bay bridge approach. the skyway jammed in both

directions. getting word that there is car stalled eastbound on the bridge just before treasure island. that's got it backed up all the way into san francisco. delay of 50 minutes. also it's slow from 101 from san francisco all the way down to sunnyvale. >> it's not any better in the east bay. look at this ribbon of headlights and taillights. there is heavy traffic in the maze in all drirections. cars are stacked up like a bunch of pancakes at the ihop on sunday morning. traffic continues heavy across the bridge. let's take a look now at traffic. the stormy thursday. this is a good view of the entire bay area. the red lines, you know what that means. streets and freeways are packed, jammed. slow in both directions of 101. really, you know, from the

peninsula, north bay, san francisco, east bay, all of it. >> slow going and more expense i ive. transportation officials are drafting ballot measure to hike the price by up to $3 per trip. >> reporter: the metropolitan transportation commission is considering a ballot measure that would increase tolls by one, two or threes. all state owned bay area bridges would be impacted. spokesman john goodwin said the money would restore infrastructure and other improvements they can't afford now. >> the state and federal governments have essentially backed away from transportation investment for an entire generation, really longer. ordinarily the prime vehicle, if you will, for transportation investment is the gasoline tax.

>> reporter: which has not increased since the 1990s. a $1 toll hike would bring in an extra $127 million a year. $3, 381 million. drivers already pay up to $6 to cross the bay bridge during peak hours. this new toll increase could change that to $9. for daily commuters, that money adds up fast. >> definitely adds to my cost of living to have to $3 more every day is a big deal. >> it's going to make the drivers even more angry. >> reporter: she's concerned about how much this could deduct from her trips. >> uber does pay it back but i live on the east bay and sometimes i have to go to san francisco to work there. i have to cross the bridge twice every day. >> reporter: the measure first needs to pass the legislature and be approved by voters. transportation officials hope to have it on the ballot in 2018. facebook is partnering with

as part of some holiday deals. in the past those deals have mostly included only budget brands like tcl and westinghouse. >> some of the lesser brands have been really aggressive. that's put a lot of pricing pressure on the major brands. >> reporter: that means your money goes further. for $500, you should get a 4k ultra hdtv from a top performing brand. something that would have cost you nearly twice as much just a few years ago. >> as the tv industry matures and new features come into the marketplace, first they are expensive and they are less expensive. >> reporter: that's why for $750, you should be able to buy a higher tier, 50-inch 4k ultra hd set from major brand that consistently do better in consumer reports ratings than value brands. spend a little more and you'll likely get a larger screen and

more of the latest features including better video processing and hdr or high dynamic range which can yield better contrast and realistic looking images. okay, because people keep their tvs for seven to ten years, consumer report says it's worth it to spend that extra 100 or 150 bucks if it means getting a higher quality tv. i agree with that. >> thanks very much. good evening. it's great to see the rain but it's been a soggy and rough commute. still tracking some pockets of moderate to heavy rain. taking you into street level radar. we are seeing some pockets of heavier rain there as we take you into the east bay, union city. you'll notice there are some downpours there. san francisco, pockets of rain as well. ingleside district you're looking at heavier rainfall now. 380, 101 so the commute is not

exactly an easy one. in the south bay the rain has lightened up a bit but it's still steady around 101. your commute is a dicy one. still tracking some light to moderate rain right now. i do want to show you some areas of concern. the fairfield area we're seeing rain. if you're going to travel across 80, this will be a problem. here are the areas of concern. a flash flood warning has been extended. it was lifted at 5:00. it's been reissued for 8:00 tonight. there's still concern. those creeks are still rising despite the fact that the heaviest of the rain has fallen off a bit. in sierra, nevada it's turning to snow. about a foot to two feet of snow is expected over the passes. expect white out conditions with strong gusty winds. i would not advise traveling. rain drops on our lens from pier 15. it's going be a windy, rainy,

evening commute. flooding in low lying areas. we're expecting colder mornings saturday through monday. this has verified as a three. gusts of 50 miles an hour. heavy rain at times. still the potential for more flooding and wind damage. we have seen trees topple as well. 7:00 you're still looking at rain especially across the east bay. the peninsula, south bay. 9:00 still going. pockets will be moderate to heavy. by 11:00 p.m. you'll notice the steadiest of rain is easing up. we're looking at a few showers lingering. most of your commute should be fine around 9:00 a.m. same thing for noontime heading into the santa cruz mountains. we'll keep in a couple of showers. the burn scar areas are under a flash flood watch. that includes the loma fires until 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. debris and flash flooding is possible. any time these watches are issued, we'll send you a push

alert. a good idea to have it handy right around this time. gusts 25 miles an hour this evening. continuing. 34 still possible. the winds will subside as we head into your friday. speaking of tomorrow morning, temperatures will be in the 30s and the 40s with isolated showers showing up. a cool day even though there will be sun around. a lingering shower or sprinkle tomorrow and we're looking at cold mornings. temperature will be down below freezing in some areas. afternoon highs will be on the cool side as well. it is a dry weekend. dry next week until thursday. the good thing is you'll get a chance to get out and good some holiday stuff done. >> i got a lot of that to do. >> did you forget it? raiders fans get a special mid-flight announcement.

last week the raiders played the kansas city chiefs in missouri. during the three-hour flight the flight captain took the pa system to congratulate passengers on wiping out all the alcohol on the plane. east bay times reporter was on board and tweeted announcement on flight congratulates the entire aircraft for wiping them completely out of booze. yep, it's a raiders flight. as a veteran raiders reporter, he said it was all pretty standard for a flight to a city where the raiders are playing. bay area based instagram has hit a milestone. 600 million monthly users. that's nearly twice the population of the united states. most of the posts are food picks or skyline shots. instagram's biggest competitor is snapchat. isn't this nice.
