new this is abc7 mornings. >> good morning. it's saturday, december 17th. i'm cornell barnard in for chris nguyen. it's cold out there. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. we have the freeze warning for most neighborhoods and a frost advisory closer to the bay. as we look at doppler 7 you notice we aren't picking up any precip but temperatures are ranging from freezing conditions from santa rosa, mountain view, and morgan hill 32. and livermore 33 and in concord. this morning even colder than yesterday. 7 to 15 degrees cooler. freeze warning until 8:00 and that's for the north bay, the east bay and south bay interior valleys. we should see temperatures drop further and a frost advisory right around here closer to the

bay. so it's going to be frosty again tonight. we will talk about when we get out of this freeze and if we have any precip in our future. >> lisa, thank you so much. breaking news overseas this morning. a tsunami threat has been issued following a powerful magnitude 7.9 earthquake offer the coast of new guinea. the quake struck just before 3:00 this morning our time. it's the blue dot. the quake was deep at 61 miles deep. at deep they cause less damage than shallow ones. but tsunamis are possible at some locations in the south pacific. it sits on the ring earthquakes. developing news out of the san mateo this morning. investigators are investigating a shooting near a bowling area that left a man injured. it happened at the bell matteo

renzi bowl on olympic avenue. the barns taken to the hospital and is in stable but serious condition. it appears the victim was targeted scary moments on a high rise building in san francisco after the seventh floor catches fire. the high rise on camden drive next to san francisco state university. two people inside the building were displaced. >> the flames in the window of a high rise caught the attention of a man. he drove headed toward 19th avenue and recorded this video. san francisco state university students who live in the building didn't realize the severity of the situation at first. >> we thought it was a false alarm but not the real thing, and especially next door. >> the twelve-story apartment building is on come den drive. the fire broke out in a unit on the 19th side.

the women left the their apartment without jackets thinking they would be let right back in. >> my roommate said it smells like smoke and we thought they were smoking and we got outside and there was policemen coming in the doors. >> they extinguished the flames in less than 30 minutes but called for backup just in case. >> it was a precautionary matter because it was a high rise. we were able to put it out quickly. >> firefighters dumped burned debris in inside the unit while is investigators worked to determine the cause. the red cross is helping two displaced residents. abc7 news. we are getting a new look this morning at the terrifying moments after a car careened into a bugs stop in chinatown yesterday afternoon. photographs taken shows the aftermath of the accident that injured ten people at stockton and klay streets at lunchtime. we have the details. >> reporter: an anxious crowd

watches from behind police tape as city workers sweep up broken glass and take apart a crumpled muni shelter piece by piece. ten people were injured when a car came bearing down stockton street and slammed into a busy bus stop. >> it was like, bam! really loud. >> raymond heard it happened. he stepped out of his photography studio and took these pictures of the immediate aftermath. the toyota crushed against the metal support beams. a man with a bloody face missing a shoe. a woman dazed and hurt on the ground next to her grocery bag. a man comforting her. first responders tend to go injuries. an elderly woman was driving with a passenger when she somehow lost control. >> the lady driving the small car, and they hit this, and the y-one, and then gave it full gas

and hit the busideo from a grocy store shows the impact and people scrambling to get out of the driver's path. the supervisor who represents chinatown was this the area when it happened. he helped load one of the victims into an ambulance. >> there were a lot of individuals on the ground, many of them bleeding. there's blood all over the sidewalk. it was kind he have a pretty horrific scene. >> all of those injured are expected to survive. abc7 news. california's attorney general has issued a warning to uber to stop testing self-driving vehicles on san francisco streets. there was a letter sent yesterday asking california to adhere to california law and immediately remove self-driving vehicles from the state's roadways until they comply with all applicable statutes and regulations. it comes after the dmv issued a warning to uber to get permits

before they could drive autonomous enforcement. >> there was a question about how much enforcement authority they had. >> they said the vehicles are not autonomous and should not be regulated as such. they require active human control like the autopilot device on test vehicles. >> the fact they are continuing to operate on city streets is they are doing so not just illegally but unsafely. >> they showed a self piloted vehicle running a red light in san francisco. uber said it was human error and the driver has been suspended. the city officials claim a warehouse near espee avenue has an underground nightclub called

burnt ramin but it's not licensed to do so and they are afraid it could be another ghost ship. firefighters were called to an auto yard in richmond parkway around 7:00 yesterday morning. a fire quickly spread between vehicles stacked upon one another, and waking the neighbors. >> i heard an explosion and i got out of my car and i just saw billowing black smoke. i was very startled. >> crews had to use so much suppressant to out out the fire it looked like it snowed. to the north bay where people spent the day cleaning up downed trees and soaked belongings, authorities had to use a crane to remove this tree

on the road. they received more than 1,000 calls for help in marin county alone a large rockslide forced a closer of highway 101 in an area until at least monday in napa county. sky 7 overhead showing the trees, mud and rocks that fell on to the lanes of south wooden valley. caltran suggests using highway 128 as an alternate route. in the south bay crews are still cleaning up after thursday's storm and it may take them quite a while. there are hazards on smaller roads throughout the santa cruz mountains. the storm had a tremendous impact on the county. abc7 news reporter indicate katie marzullo explains. >> you see the earth washed away below. it's one were two places the assistant director of public works said suffered permanent damage in thursday's storm. they said it will require long-term repairs, as will

into the 20s. not only this morning, but tomorrow morning. it looks like we are going to have to wait until monday night where we really begin to see the temperatures begin to modify. so cold mornings this weekend, bright, brisk and dry averages. and we will get into a slight chance of showers on thursday. that verifies, and it will be weak. not looking like anything intense. in fact, i'm not even sure it will be on our storm impact scale. so as we go through the rest of the morning, notice we are still in the 30s 8:00. a couple 40s. but if you think that's cold, i want to show you the windchills from the midwest to the northeast. this is saturday morning. check it out. 36 below zero. and then this all moves into chicago. 19 below. this is sunday morning. then it's even going to stay into monday. minus 21. you have friends or family coming in from the midwest or east coast, they will love our balmy 50s. certainly cool for this time of

year. 51 santa clara. along the peninsula. 50 milbrae. remember the frost advisory here until 8:00 in the morning. highs just in the upper 40s at the coast. in the north bay low 50s. this is where we will have some of the chilliest numbers, the interior valleys of the north bay, the east bay, the south bay. 52 closer to the bay here for san leandro and castro valley. still a cool afternoon and the highs reach about 3:00 in the afternoon. low 50s in the inland valleys. by tomorrow morning in san jose, you are still going to be awfully cold this the 30s and it's going to take until the middle of the week. we will get cloud cover that will help modify the overnight lows. so the accuweather seven-day forecast, sunny and chilly the next couple of days with with our frost advisory along the peninsula close to the bay. freeze warning for the interior valleys once again tonight until tomorrow morning. and then as we get into the middle of the week we add a little bit of cloud cover, a little bit more wind. slightly milder. and if you get our app you will have those push alerts and

20 feet below the sidewalk and extend 20 feet over the water. abc7 news has learned that the ghost ship warehouse founder has retained the services of a san francisco attorney. the attorney's office would only say they are working with him in a precharge capacity. 46 people lost their lives in a four-alarm fire approximately two years ago. there was a criminal investigation saying murder charges were a possibility. >> the attorney has defend add number of high profile clients. the fire bought spotlight on issues of building safety and code violations of that prompted fears of eviction among people who live in buildings like that in oakland. dozens of them gathered yesterday for a community meeting with city officials and tenants rights organizations.

to a legal dwelling unit a separate entrance and rent it out. >> richmond is one of 8 cities to take advantage of a new law allowing so-called accessory units. they hope the new policy will add up to 10,000 new housing units. happening today, the berkeley police and fire departments will distribute thousands of toys to children this holiday children. more than 3,000 toys will be given to kids in the toys for tots program. you can still donate today. by a new, unwrapped toy to any berkeley fire station or to the public safety building on martin luther king, jr. way. the distribution starts at 8:00 this morning also happening today, san francisco saint anthony's foundation starting their annual a christmas donation drive. they are still looking for donations, especially baby and minutes clothing and shoes. they also accept toiletries and new children's books and toys. it runs every day until

>> good morning, it's cold out there. lisa argen will have your forecast. it's a chilly one. find those gloves before the day is out. bay area bike share has announced where it plans a big expansion in the east bay. the group just released this map showing 66 proposed new bicycle stations in berkeley, oakland and emeryville. that would put an additional 1500 bicycles in the system in the east bay alone. the goal is to grow from 700 bikes to 7,000 bikes by 2018. you can see the map and get feedback about the new locations on our website, abc7news.com happening today the golden gate

it's 11 degrees cooler from novato and 15 degrees cooler in concord. this is the coldest air of the season, widespread 30s. and hopefully you have protected the plants and the pets this morning because it was awfully cold yesterday. but as we bottom out and hay pressure builds in, the coldest mornings is this weekend. it will be bright and brisk throughout the afternoon and a slight chance of showers. we are just talking a couple hundredths perhaps into thursday. we will get into an extended dry period. in the sierra nevada, 37 degrees south lake, 45 in the southern sierra. and even los angeles at 59 degrees. so certainly below average everywhere. we will be looking at temperatures around the bay today. some of the coldest we've seen in a while. so 3:00, 4:00 the afternoon highs. it should be 3:00 this time of year. 51 degrees from santa clara to san jose. 51 morgan hill. on the peninsula a frost advisory until 8:00. upper 40s pacifica, half moon

bay. the national weather service has extended the frost advisory around the peninsula and the freeze warning into sunday morning, as well. 50 downtown this afternoon in the north bay. the numbers just from the upper 40s bodega bay. 51 calistoga and vallejo. east bay plenty of sunshine and 50s. inland not much change for you with temperatures in a very a narrow uniform range. tomorrow morning in san jose you will still be in the 30s. little change there. but we will look for the numbers to slowly come up. the middle of the week we get some wind and more cloud cover. the accuweather seven-day forecast featuring frosty mornings with frost advisory around the peninsula and the freeze warning through tomorrow morning. another chilly start on monday. but the milder weather moves our way. winter begins with the somewhat warmer conditions on wednesday. then we look for pretty nice weather as we go into the holiday weekend. i think it's a good trade-off
