good morning, america. as more than 100 million americans take to the roads and skies t holiday travel nightmare already unfolding. planes, stranded on the tarmac for hours. back-to-back storms hitting in the west set to bring heavy rain and snow across the country. the ripple effect coast to coast. and the major concerns as the record weekend of travel now gets under way. breaking news for our viewers in the west. we are learning two americans were injured in that christmas market attack in berlin. as the global manhunt for this man considered armed and dangerous is on the run tonight. officials tracking him before his escape. trump calling this disgraceful. >> it's got to be stopped.

christmas' christmas eve eve eve. take a look at l.a.x., the lines starting to cause a headache for travelers and just probably going to get worse. >> look at this. the tarmac, so many planes backed up there. a record 4.3 million people are expected to go through l.a.x., i gather they're not singing christmas carols on those planes. they are stuck there. more than 100 million americans are hitting the roads and skies. fighting the weather warnings this holiday weekend. speaking of weather, who covers weather? ginger. >> nobody better. >> ginger, you've been covering both the storms sweeping across the west and the rest of the country. what's travel going to be like? >> that's the thing. you see video like that and hear we're number 47 for takeoff. right? you will see a lot more of that, and weather will be a small part of it. we're already seeing rain in parts of arizona. you can see las vegas this morning earlier, and los angeles rain. that rain impacting not only flights there, but of course, that storm is going to move east. and then there will be another one. that's why we see so many states in the west with winter weather alerts.

that bright green in the dakotas is a blizzard watch. two low pressure systems, the first slides across the nation. if you are traveling through chicago friday night, that's the first one i have to warn you about. that may impact you. it's late friday, but still something to note. and if you are traveling on the east coast on christmas eve itself, most rain on i-95. inland higher elevations in new england, that's going to impact you. another storm i have to talk about. i'll come back with that. >> don't you love it when they get you on the plane then they tell you? >> yeah. >> let's get to david kerley. he has more on this at the united airlines command center in chicago tracking thousands of flights. that record holiday travel is getting under way. hey, david. >> reporter: david, when you were sleeping these folks were really busy. the problems in l.a. this is united's command center and they have been dealing with that l.a. problem all night. larry here, who is in charge of the entire network tells me they got the l.a. picture figured out. overnight, the holiday travel rush leading to this mess, hundreds of flights delayed at l.a.x. >> over on the tarmac for 2 1/2 hours.

>> reporter: jets backed up on runways and tarmacs for hours even after landing. >> our pilot was telling us it would be, like, another 20 minutes. he hasn't seen so much airplanes on one track in a few years. >> reporter: it was a perfect storm of weather, construction and so many fliers even backing up roads. >> it's pretty nuts. >> reporter: a busy night for centers like this. >> is that thing ready to go? >> reporter: it's these workers -- >> you have runway 11 for overthrow. >> reporter: 1,200 of them watching computer screens, trying to keep everything on time. >> this room exists just to minimize that disruption. we'll try to reroute airplanes and flight crews, develop flight plans that get away from the weather. >> reporter: this time of year, it's all about the weather and more fliers. today and tomorrow are the busiest christmas air travel days. it's estimated nearly 5 million flyers will take to the skies to get home for the holidays. >> we'll have dulles take a look at it. >> reporter: united's share, nearly 500,000 passengers each

day. many of them, far from frequent fliers. but people are trying to get home for christmas. patience? >> patience is helpful. you know, about 75% of our passengers travel once a year, so we'll see a lot of those one time a year travellers over the next couple of days. >> reporter: they are all traveling now. we are not at the airport. this is a skyscraper in downtown chicago. that's the domestic side of united's operations. on the other side of the floor, international but the most important board right now is this one right here. weather, and they are expecting some snow here in chicago. it's really the factor that affects travel the christmas holiday. amy. >> yeah, unfortunately mother nature doesn't look like it's cooperating this time. thanks so much. now to overseas and the global manhunt for the suspect in that deadly attack on the berlin christmas market. german authorities are searching for a 24-year-old tunisian might. there he is. he is on the loose, and he is considered armed and dangerous. abc's matt gutman has been covering the latest developments

from berlin. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, amy. german officials saying they launched two raids overnight. one of them against a refugee camp trying to find the man suspected in the attack behind me. that dragnet across europe is only intensifying. this morning, it's the face seen across europe. german officials putting out this europewide apb, 24-year-old anis amri from tunisia. he's known to use at least six ail yachts and have three different nationalities and warns he's under urgent suspicion and could be armed and dangerous. police say he's suspected of hijacking this semi truck at this depot here just a few miles from the christmas market. the original truck driver, a polish man, found dead in the cabin, seen here on cctv footage just hours before the attack. that trunk loaded with 50,000 pounds of steel bulldozing

through the market. smashing stalls and crushing people. leaving at least 11 dead. over 20 people still hospitalized. inside that cab, officials made a shocking discovery, a wallet found with amri's i.d. inside. german officials saying he had been on their radar for months because of suspected ties to radicals, which is why his asylum request was rejected earlier this year. authorities offering a more than $100,000 reward for information leading to amri's capture saying he is a suspect but not necessarily the perpetrator of the monday attack. isis is claiming responsibility for the carnage after sending out recent messages calling for supporters to use trucks to attack public gatherings. this morning, after a breakneck effort to patch it up, the christmas market is back open. the stalls here have been rebuilt. the crowds are back out. the only difference, these freshly cleaned pavings and the heightened security here. but germans still fearful. is this a new normal for germany? >> i hope not.

but it might be. >> reporter: now we're learning that two americans were among the wounded, and this is only going to increase the outrage about how germany let this man out of their grasp. he had been under surveillance for months, but for some reason, that was called off in september. he was last mentioned in intelligence bulletins in november, amy. >> in fact, matt, germany actually tried to deport this man this past summer but that didn't happen. why? >> reporter: that's right. they tried to deport him back in june, but they couldn't because he didn't have the right papers, so they allowed him to stay here in berlin, and those papers finally allowing his deportation arrived yesterday, amy. >> oh, horrible timing there. okay, matt gutman, thank you. we appreciate it. abc's senior justice correspondent pierre thomas is in washington with more on the manhunt and the threat here at home. good morning, pierre. >> reporter: good morning, amy. german authorities clearly considered amri a suspected islamic radical before the

attack, and i'm being told by sources that germans shared some of this intelligence about amri with u.s. national security officials. of particular interest whether he can be tied in any way to isis, there's an urgent investigation under way in germany to determine if he was part of a cell or if he has a support network helping him hide right now. this is a tense moment for law enforcement worldwide, especially throughout the holiday season with concern that so-called lone wolves or people inspired by isis might attack on short notice. although no specific plot has been identified, everyone here is on alert, amy. >> speaking to that authorities here in the u.s. put out a security bulletin. >> reporter: that's right. laying out security concerns for the big celebrations in times square on new year's eve. again, no specific threat has been identified, but this bulletin specifically mentions what just happened in germany. it also states that terror attacks here at home and in europe have, quote, heightened concern about similar attacks being replicated in the near term. end quote. everyone is being vigilant,

case in point, florida authorities and the fbi are investigating a tampa man after he got into a violent confrontation with his parents and police. his parents had become suspicious about a weird smell coming from the residence. authorities are checking to see if there are explosives, and the local sheriff specifically mentioned germany as a reason to take no chances. >> all right, pierre, thank you so much for that update. as you know, president-elect donald trump reacting to the tragedy in berlin calling it a, quote, an attack on humanity as he briefly spoke with reporters outside his florida estate. we'll speak with donald trump's senior adviser, kellyanne conway, in a moment. big news to break on that front. but first abc's cecilia vega is here with more on trump's comments. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: good morning. an attack on humanity and what's going on is, quote, terrible. that is the latest response from donald trump. it's clear where he stands on that attack in germany. what's not so clear this morning is where he stands on that proposed plan to ban muslims. president-elect donald trump emerging from the confines of his mar-a-lago estate.

appearing before the cameras and addressing the terror attacks in europe. his national security adviser retired general michael flynn behind him. >> what's going on is terrible. in fact, we have intelligence here right now but what's going on is terrible. >> reporter: but this was no press conference. today marks 148 days since his last one. in fact, trump took questions for you will all of 90 seconds, and even then, he did not answer when asked whether he is now reconsidering his proposed muslim ban. >> you know my plans all along and it's -- i've been proven to be right 100% correct. what's happening is disgraceful. anyway, make sure everything is fine, folks. nice to have you here. >> reporter: and with that, it was over. but then, three hours later, trump emerged once again. before the cameras, a handshake with admirals and generals, and then questions about his meeting

with the heads of lockheed martin and boeing. >> trying to get costs down, costs. primarily the f-35. we're trying to get the costs down. it's a program that is very, very expensive. it's a little bit of a dance. but we're going to get the costs down, and we're going to get it done beautifully. >> reporter: this time, 35 seconds' worth of questions, and then the pet-elect went back inside. and this morning, president-elect trump is close to having a full cabinet. he has just two slots left to fill. agriculture and v.a. >> great to have you with us and president-elect trump's senior adviser kellyanne conway. a new role just announced for you. you're going to serve as counselor to the president. >> i am. >> you'll be in the west wing. >> i will. >> will you counsel him to have more press conferences, 148 days without an official press conference, 44 days since the election. no press conference and here's what you said about hillary clinton and her folks not having a press conference during the campaign.

>> her supporters are protecting her by not letting her talk to the press. i'm happy to talk to you, but apparently we don't respect you the way we do. she won't even give a press conference. >> what do you think? have the people waited long enough to hear from their president-elect? >> i was always surprised when hillary clinton was running for president she didn't make herself more available to the press but also to the public. she took five days off before the last debate. off at fund-raisers and not out at rallies like mr. trump was with tens of thousands of people -- >> a rally is much different than a press conference where americans can hear from their president-elect. george w. bush spoke a couple days after, barack obama three days after he was elected. we're at 44 days now. >> right, but let me say this. donald trump and mike pence have been forming their cabinet at rapid pace. so, their record speed with which they've done their cabinet and senior team is something to behold. we're way ahead of schedule even george herbert walker bush who was a sitting president and he's busy with that and about to announce our press secretary, communications director and more

of our senior communications team. this will be a traditional white house in the sense that you will have a great deal of press availability on a daily basis and have a president who continues to be engaged with the press. >> announce press secretary do you want to do it here on "gma"? >> no, i wouldn't. >> i had to try. the president-elect did talk yesterday briefly at mar-a-lago talking about the terror attack in berlin and asked about the muslim been that had been proposed during the campaign. you heard what he said in cec e cecilia's piece. he said, i have been proven to be right, 100% correct, so what does that mean as far as the registry is concerned or some of the list? >> the comment went to the fact he was immediately criticized when he presumed that these attacks in germany and in turkey had to do with isis and then, of course, he is correct and that's what he's saying. he is the guy out there saying we need extreme vetting policies and we need to have a better center, vis-a-vis countries, that train, harbor and export terrorists because right now, we

have a very uncertain, very chaotic, poor -- >> has he backed away from the idea of a registry? >> he said long after he proposed that that this would be more strictly tied to countries where we know they have a history of terrorism and that this is not -- this is not a complete ban. >> you were on the campaign obviously. you remember this well. donald trump often bashed hillary clinton for her ties to wall street and as we've watched the cabinet form we've seen three former executives from goldman sachs who will have close proximity to the president, by one estimate the net worth of the president-elect's cabinet is now at least $13 billion. 34 times greater than george w. bush, five times greater than barack obama. are you concerned that with the president-elect's message being about the forgotten people in america that that doesn't necessarily represent who they are? >> no, the two are not related in this way. the people on the cabinet are very successful men and women who have been job creators, and true american success stories, who are now bringing those skills to bear in the cabinet to help the forgotten man and forgotten woman. many of them are the original

welcome back to "gma." you are looking live at l.a.x. overnight passengers experiencing a travel nightmare as rain and construction led to major delays on the tarmac. looks like there are a lot of lines out there as well. a record number of travelers already starting their holiday travel this morning. more than 100 million expected to hit the roads and skies and bracing for back-to-back storms hitting the west all moving across the country right now. not going to be cooperating for holiday travel. ♪ it's the most wonderful time >> exactly. just keep singing that to yourself. >> you'll get to where you're going. >> eventually. >> exactly. also happening right now we are learning more about the attack overseas. we've learned two americans were injured in the berlin christmas market attack as a global manhunt is under way for this

man. the raids intensifying overnight. here at home security stepped up. there are also new developments in that deadly explosion at a fireworks center. investigating whether security was too lax as families now search for answers. as people gear up for the holidays, it's the biggest weekend at the box office. did you know that? >> i like to see a movie around christmas. >> great time. family is in town and something you can all do together. we'll find out the must see films of the season coming up in our big board. looking forward to that, but we begin with that atlanta attorney now facing charges accused of killing his wife from the backseat of a car. abc's ryan smith is here with the new twist in this case. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: good morning, amy. overnight, tex mciver turns himself in to police, expected in court today. the atlanta power broker admitting he shot his wife in the back but claiming it was all a terrible accident. this morning, prominent atlanta attorney, claude "tex" mciver is behind bars charged with involuntary manslaughter after

shooting his wife to death from the backseat of an suv. according to authorities, this 73-year-old and his wife diane were being driven home by a friend after a dinner in late september. ending up in an unfamiliar neighborhood. >> he looked around him and said, basically i wish we hadn't gotten off here. he asked diane if she would reach into the console and hand him his pistol. >> reporter: mciver's spokesman saying the pair feared unrest surrounding recent black lives matter protests in the area. but the suv moved on without incident. moments later, according to the spokesman mciver fell asleep and that the loaded gun in a plastic grocery bag on his lap accidentally went off when the car hit a bump on the road. a bullet striking diane in the back. >> diane said something to the effect of, tex, i think you've shot me. >> reporter: mciver never called 911. his wife dying in the hospital that night. now mciver contradicting his own

spokesman's story about the incident telling the atlanta journal constitution that the pair wasn't fearful of black lives matter but it was pulled out as a precaution in an area with homeless people and the car never hit a bump. mrk iver saying, i was suddenly awoken. i lurched, and i saw a flash. atlanta police have been investigating the incident for nearly three months. mciver passing a polygraph. now the man who is vice chairman of georgia state board of elections is facing trial, saying he's innocent. when talking about his wife saying, i'm not feeling guilty, i'm feeling grief. now, the driver of the car also believes this was an accident. mciver faced gun-related charges 26 years ago, accused of firing shots near three teens. aggravated assault charges were later dropped. he'll have his first appearance in court today, his 74th birthday. if convicted he could face up to a decade in prisone, amy.

>> let's bring in veteran felony prosecutor, nancy grace, in atlanta with more on this and, nancy, we just heard in ryan's report it took three months for police to charge mciver. why did it take so long? >> well, i can tell you this, if he had not been a prominent member of the atlanta society and wealthy to boot, he would have been in jail that night and then they would ask questions later. but this is what we know. we know that that night, she goes into the hospital at emory, even though there were hospitals much closer. they say they thought it was the best hospital in the area. but then later that night around 5:00 a.m., he checks himself into the hospital with a panic attack and does not speak to police for two full days. that's going to be an issue. now, another thing is they just had an estate sale of all of her belon belongsin belongsings, including about 100 fur coats. now, i would have advised him to hold on to her clothes until the legal matter is settled.

it's never a good look to sell off your wife's belongings. i mean, you might as well open the garage and let people pick through them. not a good look. does it prove guilt? no. but it doesn't help anything. >> what do you make of the chavrn charges? it is not a murder charge but involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct. >> one of those is a felony. one is a misdemeanor. involuntary manslaughter is normally when something happens negligently or doing a legal act carrying a gun in an illegal manner. you shoot somebody. so, that's what they're looking at here. a felony, but involuntary manslaughter carries a much lesser sentence. but this is just the beginning. these are police warrants. this is going to go to a grand jury. they will hear the evidence. now, mciver's camp is hopeful that the grand jury will dismiss the whole thing. they have also been complaining that he is arrested this close

to christmas. you know, she's dead. he should not be complaining about the timing of the arrest. now, does this prove he's guilty? no, but it's all going to come out in front of a jury. now he's had those 1990 charges dismissed. that was settled out of court where he was accused of shooting into the car, a ford mustang of three teens. that went away. now, there's this. his other problem is he's got too many people talking. he's got people blaming black lives matter and people saying he woke up. if he was afraid of a carjacking, how did he fall asleep? they said there was a bump in the road. then there wasn't a bump in the road. so all these people are giving conflicting accounts of what a that -- what happened that night. that's bad. and any minute he'll be going to court for a bond hearing. i predict he'll get out on a low bond, he'll be out in about 18

hours and the case will proceed from there. >> all right, nancy, i got the play-by-play, blow-by-blow from you. i know you'll be watching. thank you very much. nancy grace. >> i will. >> she made a few points there. all right, we turn to that new dash cam video out showing a terrifying moment. a truck swerving all over this minnesota highway with a a drunk driver is behind the wheel and he tested at more than three times the legal limit and when he is pulled over he falls out of the door and abc's gio benitez is here with more. gio? >> reporter: hey, david. good morning. when you see this video, it's just truly incredible that nobody was hurt. but the damage could have been catastrophic and it's all caught on camera. >> i don't know exactly what's going on yet. >> reporter: you're watching a commercial semi truck waving out of control because the driver, police say, was very, very drunk. off minnesota's highway 10 you can see it swerving off to the right shoulder, hitting a sign, struggling to get back on the road, then crossing several

all right. welcome back, everybody. time for our big board. we'll get right to it with dan abrams at the desk for our first story. let's start with that bombshell google lawsuit accusing a company of encouraging employees to spy on each other and silencing complaints with their confidentiality agreement and, dan, a lot of companies have confidentiality agreements, and what's the difference of this one? >> look, i read through the

lawsuit, and it seems that the confidentiality clause here is pretty similar to confidentiality clauses you'd have in a big technology-based company. what the plaintiff is saying that may or may not have merit is that the way google's enforcing it effectively becomes a situation where you can't talk to your spouse, you can't talk to your attorney. they have an in-house spying agency, they say, that makes sure people don't rat on each other, so that's going to be the question here, is whether that's actually true because the claim that this confidentiality agreement is so fundamentally different than others, at least based on what i have seen, doesn't really hold water. >> google issued a statement saying that the suit is baseless. our employee confidential requirements are designed to protect propriety business information while not preventing employees were disclosing workplace concerns. how difficult will this case be to prove for the plaintiff? >> yeah, it's not an easy case. the first thing that the plaintiff is going to have to

overcome is what's called a motion for summary judgment. it means google will say this ought to be thrown out. there should be no jury in this case, and as a legal matter, google will say it should end now. if the plaintiff is able to survive that, then there's a shot here. but that's going to be the most important hurdle for the plaintiff to overcome now. >> if you want to complain about senior management how safe is it for you to speak up and somehow smart is it for you to speak up? >> if the complaint is i'm not getting a promotion and i'm better than the guy next to me and that's frustrating for me, i'm not getting promoted -- >> keep that to yourself. >> maybe tell that to your colleagues and friends. >> tell that to your wife. >> exactly, exactly but if the complaint is that my boss is engaging in illegal conduct, in discrimination, et cetera, anything like that, all major companies now are set up such that there should be a way to safely report that to an hr

department, and be able to tell them what's happening and not be able to suffer any sort of retaliation, and if that ever happens, that's when you have yourself a lawsuit. >> all right. dan, thank you for that. next up, it is movie time and the biggest week of the year for movies. it kicks off tomorrow. a slew of new films hitting the big screen in a battle for the box office all hoping to dethrone the runaway hit "rogue one." larry hackett is here with more. i say good luck on that one but, larry, setting up to be a record-breaking year once again so what's the big story line here? >> well, it is. you're absolutely right. we are at about $10.7 billion right now. the record last year was at $11.2 billion. i think we'll beat it and the reason why in addition to ticket prices going up the success of family movies. pictures like "sing" opening this weekend and "rogue one," "moana," the number one movie of the year, "finding dory." all of these saved the bacon of hollywood. back in june, there were stories saying this year would be the worst year ever. instead one summer hit and these movie, four of the top six of

the year is why hollywood is doing so well this year. >> larry, you just named so many movies. so many choices. so what are the hits and what are the misses in your opinion? >> well, let's look at this weekend alone. you have got "sing" coming out, which i mentioned. same people that brought you "the secret life of pets." good reviews so far. i think that's the kind of picture people will take their family to. that's number one. number two is "passengers." the reviews have not been great. the real issue whether jennifer lawrence can carry a movie on her own. i mean, she was obviously, the heart of "the hunger games" franchise, and david o. russell films. the third is "assassin's creed" based on a video game and you know it's the young guys in the video gamers in all of us and the picture i'm looking forward to is "fences" starring denzel washington and viola davis and you can be almost assured both of them will get nominations and looks like a beautiful movie testing through the roof.

unknown vehicle pull into her driveway. >> what's going on? >> they're breaking into my house, please come really quick. >> what is the address? >> reporter: ashley retreated to a closet in her upstairs bedroom last tuesday as the three prowlers burglarized her home taking an estimated $13,000 worth of items. >> i was trying to be very quiet while in the closet so that they can't hear me. >> reporter: when the intruders made their way to the bedroom where young ashley was hiding, they kicked down the door. >> oh, no, please, please. i won't say anything. i promise you. >> reporter: according to police, the thieves fled after seeing this young girl. they were later caught after crashing their getaway car into a flatbed truck. authorities credit ashley's level head in these extreme circumstances as part of the reason the suspects were apprehended so quickly. >> she followed all the instructions. she did a great job being 11 years old. she did better than any adult out there. >> she was kind of a lifesaver for me. >> reporter: and wednesday night, "gma" was there. >> i want to thank her because when she did was really, really, really important to me.

inland will be a little rough on the roadways, and certainly could affect some of the roadways on the airports as well. here's a look at the road conditions and we'll follow both storms because there is another one right behind it. >> brutal out there. thank you. to our other top story, the intense global manhunt for the suspect in that christmas market terror attack in berlin. german police carrying out rays in two locations this morning including at a refugee camp as part of their search for 24-year-old anis amri, they say the tunisian man was on their radar for months because of his suspected ties to islamic extremists. sources say germany shared that information with u.s. intelligence officials, and we also learn this morning, that two americans were injured in that market attack. u.s. law enforcement authorities are issuing a security bulletin amid growing fears that a similar attack could happen here

at home. they are laying out concerns for the new year's eve celebration right here in times square but they do insist there is no specific threat. and turning to politics now, an announcement from the trump transition team. senior adviser kellyanne conway will be appointed counselor to the president, the highest ranking woman in the trump white house, and she spoke to david early why are on "gma." >> this will be a traditional white house in the sense that you will have a great deal of press availability on a daily basis and a president who continues to be engaged in the west. >> conway reportedly turned down an earlier offer to become press secretary. north carolina's controversial bathroom law still stands this morning after lawmakers there failed to repeal it. a deal between republicans and democrats fell apart. the law requires people to use the bathroom corresponding with their gender at birth, and limits protections for lgbt people. there is also a health alert this morning about melanoma. new figures show more americans than ever are dying from it. better detection may explain some of the increase, but also experts blame tanning for the spike in cases. and finally, if you are like me, sometimes you're not the

for holiday 911 and "good housekeeping" style director lori bergamotto is here with the best holiday hacks to survive the season and we've been getting a lot of holiday 911 questions on our twitter feed and we'll get right to it. we got to help some people out. the first one is helen who writes i'm in the middle of making chicken parm but out of bread crumbs. help? >> you'll help. do you think you could use cereal like cornflake, pretzels or potato chips. >> i think i would go with cereal. >> you're -- it's a trick question. you're half right or third right. the truth is it's all of them. it's all of them. so if you take your frying pan there and just start mashing, i'll use my rolling pin and essentially because you're making these so little you may way more brute strength and better than a food processor. >> let me help you out. any will work because you're

baking them and even if they're stale you can still use them. once you cook them it'll still taste as good. >> i never would have thought of that. >> so we have another one? >> this is a dilemma from evan who says, holiday party tonight but table looks terrible. stains and wrinkles galore, what do you do? >> first we'll get evan a subscription to "good housekeeping" to clean the stain but what happens is with tablecloths, the stains are usually in the middle. if you don't have a runner get wrapping paper as a runner, roll this out. ow beautiful is that. the key is making sure you get wrapping paper that has weight to it. a little weight so it doesn't crinkle and wrinkle. it's super easy and affordable. >> that wasn't from evan but me but last but not least a wardrobe worry who tweeted holiday party tonight, nothing to wear. no time to shop. how can i look party ready, festive in a flash. >> we have you.

we also got joy who is an audience member and her before wearing what most women have in their closets. a white button down and black pant, joy, come on out. what we did here was we tucked her in. tucked the shirt in, buttoned up to the top and gift wrap ribbon is all it is. double looped it. really feminine. help me out here and unbutton that. if that look is not for you -- >> unwrapping the gift. >> and we're adding -- whoops. we're adding another layer to it so you can put a jacket on, right. unbuttoned and use broaches to really -- >> broach. >> we have them here. what you want to do, in place of a statement necklace, cluster them together and mix metals and shapes, three or four is good then you don't have to worry about a statement necklace and you are good to go. >> the broach adds some pizazz. >> gives it a little holiday

[ cheers and applause ] >> great holiday audience. >> if you weren't already in the holiday spirit,this story is definitely going to put you in it. it starts with a mail mix-up that turned into a global movement. one couple mistakenly started getting hundreds of letters meant for santa sent right to their apartment door. so jim glaub and dylan parker decided to start miracle on 22nd street. it's a project that helps make those christmas wishes come true. our friends at "people" profiled them in an amazing story and now jim and dylan are joining us now

live from boston. thank you for all that you do. >> thank you for having us. >> happy holidays. >> happy holidays. >> happy holidays. >> so tell us how this all started. you had an apartment on 22nd street kind of far from the north pole. >> yeah. yeah, a little bit. >> a little bit farther. chelsea, north pole. yeah, no, we moved into this apartment,and the people that lived there before us, who were awesome, had said, you might be getting some letters to santa. we didn't really think anything of it at the time. but then a couple years went by, and in 2010 we had over -- i mean, over 300, 400 letters that had come into our mailbox coming every day, 20, batches of 20, 30, 40 every day. >> yeah. >> it was a really crazy thing. >> that is crazy. no explanation as to why 22nd and the north pole got mixed up. what made you decide to start answering some of those letters? >> yeah, i mean, that was the question i think we had at the time, and we both sort of

struggled with that, and i think this brought out a lot for us to figure out together. i initially thought we should take them to an organization or something. but as we talked with our friends and more and more people wanted to take a letter and fulfill it, we had so much response from people that we knew and people that we didn't know that we figured we would at least try to get them fulfilled that first year with our friends, and we've since gone on to create a facebook page, and you see that group, you know, has really come up, especially with the "people" article. >> so we unofficially teamed up with beanelf.org and they're taking letters up till christmas eve. >> so inspiring to hear what you do and, by the way, it's such an amazing and life-changing story for you, and i understand it's actually going to become a movie? >> i know.

>> the whole time we're like, this is a movie. why are we in the middle of a movie? yeah, we're working with tina fey to do a movie. >> wow, tina fey. >> that's amazing. >> we can't wait to watch the movie. it's so inspirational. thank you so much for joining us, and have a merry, merry christmas. >> merry christmas. [ cheers and applause ] >> great story. >> i love that. >> good things come to good people who give and inspire others. >> i thought they were excited about being on "gma." they got a movie with tina fey. >> and they're very inspiring. and speaking of another inspiring story this holiday season, it's about my friend, eric legrand, he was a star player on the rutgers university football team before a devastating injury ended his career. but it's what he's done since that's truly remarkable. take a look. >> fumbled it. rutgers says they have it. looks like eric legrand was at the bottom of that pile. >> reporter: at 6'2" and 275 pounds, eric legrand was a star player on the rutgers football team when one tackle changed his life.

ooh. >> oh, hit on eric legrand. >> reporter: fracturing his c-3 and c-4 vertebra paralyzing him from the neck down. in 2011 he told espn -- >> my body was stuck. tried to get up, but i couldn't. i was like, could i pass out, may i die here? >> reporter: but eric's spirit was unbreakable. >> it's not about the impossible, it's about the possible. >> reporter: his fox sports digital series "mission possible" pays tribute to inspiring athletes overcoming adversity. >> people see wheelchairs. i don't see wheelchairs. i see a brotherhood. >> reporter: like pro wheelchair basketball player jeremy. >> did you see that? >> bam. >> reporter: and 5-year-old golf sensation, tommy. >> i'm the only bilateral woman who ever finished the boston marathon. >> reporter: and jamie, a

double amputee. for eric life has no limits and any mission is possible. [ cheers and applause ] >> wow. >> wow! chills from head to toe right now. >> chills from head to toe. you know what, eric is here. eric legrand is here in our audience this morning, everybody. [ cheers and applause ] eric, thank you for joining us. and not only you, we get your mom, karen, too, which i'm excited about. and so you're so inspiring and you do so much for so many people and these stories of "mission possible" is inspiring. what inspires you to tell these stories? >> it all started when i put together at a foundation event for my foundation, you know, michael luciano was a guy who came up to me and was paralyzed and told me he did a documentary with this group called "mission possible" and they wanted to tell me all about it. when they came to my house they just came as normal people and i got to meet them and explaining to me how they wanted to pay it forward and show other people's stories and wanted me to be the host and use my platform to share these stories. i was like, this is what i want

to do in my life. this is perfect and the incredible people i've gotten to meet on the journey, they actually help and inspire me as we get to share their stories each and every day and help me get through my injury and helping them too getting introduced to cool things maybe they've never been able to do before. >> and inspires all of us. karen, you must be so proud of everything he's doing. >> michael, yes, i'm very proud of eric. the fact that he's been able to overcome, you know, just to fight through this injury and accomplish so much, and then now he wants to showcase other people and their stories and put, you know, put them in a light where they may not normally have been is just, you know, a testament to his character. [ applause ] >> yes, very much so. and do you have any, for lack of a better word, favorite stories that are coming out of the ones you're telling?

>> i've gotten, like i said, to do incredible ones. one of my favorite places to be is down in miami in the 305 so down there was cool to get out on a boat and haven't been out on a boat since my injury so that was a cool experience and seeing him play basketball but all these stories like 5-year-old tommy, you know, one-arm golfer, just, it's crazy watching him. you know on the golf course and gianna and bringing her to the prom. incredible moment. her whole family, the e-mail i got that day made me realize i need to do this and seeing those stories with celeste and jamie and it goes on. >> all of it all of them. you're the perfect person for this. i've known you a long time and been so active with everything and helped so many people, we wanted to bring you here today to like shine some light on your show on foxsports.com but i kind of told you a little story. i brought you here for more than that. i'm going to turn the tables a little bit and going to honor you for everything that you've done, okay. so we teamed up with sears, and they are donating $10,000 to

team legrand, which is your charity. there you go.
