out, we have wet pavement out there this morning. it's not coming town too hard at the bay bridge toll plaza, but slow down and take it easy. let's check in with mike. we have patchy showers out there. >> they'll be intermittent throughout the day and heavier throughout today. hi, everybody. we're starting this week wet. here's a look at live doppler 7. you see the hills into the valley, the best radar returns, and snow down to 2,500 feet on either side of san jose. get ready for waves of showers today. some of them could be light to moderate. temperatures barely making it to 50. we'll talk more about tomorrow's heavier rain cormi icoming up n. let's go back to more news. >> mike, good to see you. >> we're going to start with developing news in santa clara. we're expecting to hear from 49ers ceo after firing the head coach and general manager. >> the word came down yesterday,

though there were rumors this was going to be happening all weekend long. he and gm trent baalke were out. kelly was told after the team's loss yesterday. he's leaving after his four-year, $24 million contract. the 49ers tied a franchise worst, two w2 wins, 14 losses. kelly didn't make excuses when asked if the team's performance had anything to do with the firing. >> i wish i had that or that, but we were fortunate for the guys we had. we tried to coach them as well as we could. >> baalke was promoted to general manager in 2011, had been with the team since 2005. poor drafts and roster management paid into his undoing with the 49ers. fans weren't exactly surprised by the news. they said it was a long time coming. >> amy hollyfield is live outside the stadium as fans are reacting strongly to this news. >> hi, jessica. it's been raining out here this morning.

i have to say, it kind of feels right. it fits the mood. it is gloomy here at levi stadium. boy, the fans have really been through a lot. they have been asked to prove just how faithful they are. many of them who talked to us said they wish jim harbaugh was still the coach. they feel like firing him was the first big mistake. many say they understand that changes do need to happen, but some feel that chip kelly, well, they feel bad for him. they say he wasn't given much of a chance. >> i don't know. chip kelly, he just got here. we've been going through head coaches. i say give him another shot, let him work his system and find the right players. >> what about trent baalke? >> he should have been gone. he'll been here long enough. >> i don't like baalke. >> why? >> we shouldn't have let harbaugh go, period. >> look at the banner that flew over the stadium during yesterday's game. levi stadium, the house that harbaugh built. many fans missing him and

r real and west borough. the video was shot across the street by a neighbor. you see fire trucks surrounding the building. the business was closed at the time. inside, the fire and water damage is extensive, which is not good news for patients of the medical clinic, including the one woman we spoke to who is fighting cancer. >> i'll try to find a hospital or somewhere elsewhere i can get a test done. because then i have to have the test done before i see the doctor. the heart doctor wants me on wednesday. >> there is no word yet on how the fire started. crews were able to extinguish it quickly. unfortunately, repairs will take long. we have new details this morning on the deadly new year's eve shooting at a popular istanbul nightclub. isis has claimed responsibility for the attack that killed at least 39 people and hurt scores of others. reports say turkish police have detained eight people this morning in connection with the attack. the gunman though is still on the loose.

abc news has more. >> reporter: security cameras catching the seven murderous minutes. bullets ricochetting in the streets and people running for their lives. earlier in the evening, revelers celebrating the new year with sparklers and confetti, counting down to the new year. >> three, two, one! >> reporter: then the gunman opening fire. >> people were falling down. it was a terrible thing. >> reporter: at least 39 people dead, including more than two dozen foreigners. the club, popular with tourists. dozens more were injured. including jacob raake, here on a stretcher, after being wounded in the leg. >> i don't know. i saw one person. they're shooting. >> reporter: his family says he is okay and heading back to the u.s. also, a handful of wnba players who were celebrating in the building next to the nightclub. one of the players, carson, tweeting afterwards, we're okay. and hello, 2017.

be blessed. the u.s. and turkey are calling it a terrorist attack. turkish police sources tell abc news they believe the shooter was a traine isis fighter. >> the nightclub is a target, a symbol of secular deck danadenct makes it attractive to jihadi terrorists. >> reporter: the u.s. consulate is warning americans in istanbul to shelter in place. abc news, new york. and we also have new details in the indonesia ferry that caught fire yesterday, killing nearly two dozen. police have detained the captain of the ferry amid allegations he was the first person to jump ship. at least 23 people died, 17 are still missing, 5 other crew members are also in police custody. the captain's sailing license could be revoked. the cause of the fire is under investigation. a new crackdown for people

illegally parking in bart's lots. fines are going up by at least $20. effective today, the new penalty for not paying to park is $55. up $35 from previously. if you take a permitted spot, you'll be fined $75. that's up from what it was, a $40 fine. bart figured out people were willing to risk getting a ticket because of the fines, in many cases, were cheaper than driving and parking in the city. they hope the stiffer fine will change that. as long as you park legally, it won't cost you any more. bart is not raising the price on parking there. new rules on the road are in effect here in california for the new year. first and foremost, drivers are not able to hold their cell phones for any reason while you're behind the wheel unless the phones are mounted on the dash. other things to note. a new requirement that children age 2 or younger have to ride in a rear facing child seat. there is expanded use of ignition interlock devices for dui offenders.

it is statewide. this follows a successful pilot program already in effect in alameda county. gun laws are changing. you can no longer buy a semiautomatic rifle with a bullet button, allowing quick release of the magazine, used in mass shootings. anyone who has one of these needs to register it with the state. we have new laws. in ten minutes, we'll go over the lesser known changes aimed at protecting you where you live. new video this morning shows the iconic hollywood sign back to normal. in case you missed it, a prankster changed it to say hollyweed on new year's eve. pictures of the sign lit up social media when the sun came up yesterday morning. surveillance video shows one person hanging tarps to switch the letters. in 1976, someone did it on the day marijuana possession was reduced to a misdemeanor.

morning. the last group boarded a plane at washington dulles airport sunday morning and landed in moscow last night. the white house accused them of being spies after u.s. intelligence agencies concluded russians hacked the u.s. presidential election. 11 people expelled from the consulate in san francisco left over the weekend. the consul general said four diplomats and their seven family members drove to lax where they boarded a flight to moscow. he called the expulsions detrimental to relations between the united states and russia. crews searching for a missing plane in northern ohio. crews resuming the search for a fourth straight day. a beverage executive was piloting the plane when it vanished over lake erie, off the shores of cleveland. his wife, their two teenage sons and two neighbors were on board. cleveland police are investigating the contents of a bag recovered near a private harbor as part of the search. in the first look, the desperate search continues for a missing couple last seen ten days ago. >> they were on their way for a

weekend trip to big sur. abc has the details. >> reporter: in this morning's gma first look, on december 23rd, 20-year-old olivia gonzalez and her boyfriend, fernandez, told their families they were traveling from their north hollywood homes to big sur. it is about 300 miles away. saying they'd be back home by christmas. >> i am about to break if i go home today and don't find my sister. >> reporter: the last clue to their whereabouts, a credit card in one of their names swiped at this general store and gas station about 70 miles away from their destination. >> it is nerve-racking. it is nerve-racking to have to come out here and, you know, talk to people in the town and see their expressions. >> reporter: both families hoping to hear from them soon. >> i'm just hoping that they're just two young adults that wanted to be off the map for a little bit and enjoy the scenery, and that they'll come home. >> reporter: we'll have the latest on the search coming up at 7:00 a.m. with your gma first

pittsburgh and bay point dublin directions. if you're one of the few that has to head into work or school today, know that is still bouncing back. at least 20 minutes there. i have live doppler 7 on top of the traffic maps. we have scattered showers but not many on the roads. westbound 205 to 580, you're cruising there. driving for conditions. take a look at light drive times in a few minutes. mike nicco is in the weather center with a look at the forecast. the last day off for a lot of folks. what is it looking like? >> the weather isn't taking a day off. it starts today and lasts through the better part of the next seven days. unsettled weather. have the umbrella and a lot after patience. the area of low pressure is near seattle and portland but it is steering moisture our way. look at the high level snow. even snow in our hills and mountains. lafayette right there. we're getting a little snow there. also around hamilton and back

into the santa cruz mountains. everywhere else in green, that is light to moderate showers. in fact, you can see from 7:00 this morning all the way up until lunchtime, they'll continue. they may dissipate a little bit, but looks like we'll have another wave roll through as we head into the evening hours. 5:00 through 9:00. as we head towards tomorrow morning, it may not be quite as wet to begin with but everything should have wet, as far as leftover residual moisture. watch the waves of showers rolling in after temperatures dip into the 40s. let's jump ahead to those waves of showers that are going to roll on in. in fact, i want to broaden out the picture. look at the plume of moisture from the west. yellows, oranges, even reds moving in. tuesday afternoon, tuesday evening through wednesday morning. it'll transition over to lighter showers. look at these rainfall totals. they are going to be quite impressive. i'm going to roll all the way through 7:00 tuesday evening. 0.5 inch to 3

daly city. i was looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. it was coming down steadily. we have pockets of rain. we have wet pavement. you want to slow down and drive for conditions. check this out. highway 80, between 4 and the maze, 17 minutes. nine across the bay bridge. if you're heading to sfo, it is soggy, but it'll take nine minutes. mike is back from vacation. puddles are probable today and every day this week. today is going to be one of the lighter days. you can see the showers are scattered but pink is a wintry mix. when you see the white, that is all snow. that's what we have up in the sierra and all the way down to about lake county. we're going to see a dusting of snow today. couple inches possible, down to 2,500 feet. at least around our neighborhoods. down south, there's a few showers around san dieo and l.a. upper 50s there. winter weather advisory until 10:00 tomorrow morning.

better part of today. as soon as they let us know about the sfo arrival delays, i'll let you know. we're starting in the 30s and 40s now. we'll end up mainly in the upper 40s. there is a stronger storm tomorrow. details next. let's get news from jessica and regg reggie. 49ers ceo jed york expected to talk in a few hours about firing head coach chip kelly and general manager trent baalke. this hour, the 49ers reporter is tweeting the team has interviews lined up with patriots offensive coordinator josh mcdaniels and one in the chiefs front office. >> baalke found out on friday he won't be returning. kelly found out after yesterday's loss. this year's 49ers team ranks dead last in franchise history, tying their worst record ever at 2-14. kelly had to deal with some big injuries this season. he was asked before being fired if he would be surprised if the team let him go. here's his answer. >> i don't think anything

people. isis claimed responsibility for the attack that killed at least 39 people and injured 69 more, including one american. isis propaganda says the attack was carried out by a so-called heroic soldier in response to turkey's military operations against isis. a handful of wnba players were celebrating new year's in the building next door to the nightclub when the attack happened. none of them are hurt. >> nightclub, a target, it is a symbol of decadence that makes it attractive to jihadi terrorists. >> families already started burying their loved ones. the american consulate is warning americans to shelter in place. a 19-year-old driver is under arrest for felony dui after a deadly car crash in santa rosa. police say the teen was intoxicated when she plowed her car into a tree around 11:00 last night. a woman sitting in the front passenger seat died in the

crash. police say several people tried to help the teenage driver who was conscious but trapped in the silver chevy cavalier. emergency crews were able to get her out. she was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and then placed under arrest. home and business owners want to know who is going to pay for the damage left behind by a water main break. a viewer showed this video, water gushing through a parking lot. what a mess. abc news was there at the restoration company cleaned out the offices and homes. the damage inside is even worse. >> like any flood, everything is gone. you know? if it dries out, it's warped or molded by then. i think we still got maybe a foot of water under our office. >> in fact, 43 customers had to go without water service all day. service finally got restored

last night. the inauguration just 18 days away, and president-elect donald trump faces a point of contention with fellow republicans. russians hacking the election. abc news is in washington, d.c. breaking down why he could have a hard time overturning president obama's sanctions. >> reporter: president-elect donald trump is ringing in the new year by casting new doubt over whether the russians hacked the election. >> i know a lot about hacking. and hacking is a very hard thing to prove. so it could be somebody else. >> reporter: instead, calling into question the conclusion reached by 17 u.s. intelligence agencies that the russians were behind the hacks. >> i also know things that other people don't know. and so they cannot be sure of this situation. >> reporter: but the top democrat on the house intelligence committee says that is simply not true. >> it is very solid. it is indeed overwhelming. if he is going to have any credibility as president, he needs to stop talking this way. >> reporter: president obama

yourself. check that out. 70 miles an hour on westbound 580. let's check in with mike nicco. i don't know if 70 is a great speed because it is wet out there. but there are no delays. >> you wouldn't recommend that, driving 70 when it is wet outside. perfectly understandable. good morning. if patience is one of your new year's resolutions, this year is going to try them. 101 and 580 where it rained earlier, it is wet. low snow levels down to 2,000 feet. stronger, warmer storm for tomorrow and wednesday. a series of storms that'll last throughout the weekend. look at this setup. huge bowl of cold air to the north. warm, tropical air to the south. it'll stay to the south. that's why we have scattered showers today. that backs up to us tomorrow and brings us the gully washer. san mateo bridge all the way out to half-moon bay, we're seeing our better waves of showers developing right now. they'll be light to moderate, 1/10th of an inch.
