condition. >> i rap to the phone and ran to the window and flames were just leaping out of that window. >> reporter: residents of the weeds condominium complex in san francisco ran outside around 8:00 this morning when they saw fire coming from one of the homes. >> your heart just leaps into your throat and you think, oh, my god -- >> reporter: residents say the man who opens the condo was at work but a whom would often stayed with him whats here and was not able to escape. >> found the victim on the middle level. she was unconscious. you could tell she had smoke inhalation. she was covered with soot. >> reporter: firefighters got the fire out quickly and kept it from spreading to any other homes. the president of the homeowner association said the man who did lose his home will be able to count on this community for support. >> we will rally around and help them. there are plenty of people that he's closer to that i am but people will step in and help him out. >> reporter: firefighters have not found the cause of this fire. they say it could take a couple

of weeks. but they say nothing jumps out as obvious and it doesn't look suspicious. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. now to another big story, the oncoming storm. in the santa cruz mountains where they are expected possible flooding and mudslides and possible outages, preparations are being made to keep businesses running during the weekend storm. matt keller is live to show us what is happening. matt? >> reporter: kristen, no rain today but the san lorenzo river is riving through as people get ready for the stormy weekend. if you live in the santa cruz mountains, rain and wind aren't going to rattle you. >> i'm not scared of no storm. >> why is that? >> because we're ready for it. >> we sold a ton of dehumidifiered. >> reporter: nancy is helping people get ready for the weekend rain. >> candles, lanterns, oil, batteries, tarps, rain suits.

>> reporter: preparation is key. while everyone is keeping an eye on each other up here. >> we're just buttoning down and hoping for the best. we'll be open all the whole time so if anybody needs anything we're here for them. >> conference center is expecting 400 people this weekend. the wet weather has saturated the ground but camp officials say it is nothing new for them. >> we do our regular thing of cleaning out our drains and make sure the gutters are clear and extra flashlights and umbrellas for our guests coming through. >> and it might be an extra thrill coming for the zip lines. about 200 to 300 people come here for the canopy tours every weekend, rain or shine, although the wind could be an issue. >> now the wind gets me looking a little bit. but for most part, just a really wet weekend is really beautiful in the santa cruz mountains. especially in a redwood forest. >> and the redwoods are huge but they are not the problem.

the douglas furs are the trees that come crashing down when the winds pick up. live in bend low man, matt keller, abc 7 news. the incoming storm is a big concern for all of us in the boyer. >> mike nicco has been warning us. here is a time line as it rolls into the bay area. >> hi, everybody. things are starting to change as we transition from the medium range models that rpt quite as refined as our short range models. on saturday, still a two on the storm impact scale but the downpours are more likely in the morning with showers in the afternoon hours. the winds will pick up later on into the evening hours. and about one to three inches of rain already in the mountains with aer to an -- a quarter to an inch and a quarter elsewhere. on sunday, the heaviest rain in the morning and the scale a three. our biggest concern with flooding is early sunday during the morning into the noon hour and then our biggest concern with wind damage will be during

the morning and into the afternoon and evening hours. let's take a quick look at what you could expect. creeks, streams and even rivers will flood. remember, they will flood in that order. the creeks will fill up first and then the streams and it flows into the rivers, they will flood. debris flows into burp scars where matt was in the santa cruz mountains, one of my biggest concerns with rock slides up in the north bay mountains. down trees and power outages, more so than what we saw with the last storm. guys, the ground just can't hold any more water. >> saturated. mike, thank you. yosemite park officials are keeping a close eye on the storm as they consider closing the park over flooding concerns. this is video from a storm in 1997 that did a lot of damage to roads and camp grounds. the park had to be closed for two months while repairs were made. officials will decide in the next day or two whether to close this weekend. and crews in pacifica are waiting for the weather to improve before they can knock down this apartment building on a crumbling seaside cliff.

last night the city council voted to spend $220,000 to demolish the building before it collapses into the ocean. the cliff has been eroding quickly over the past few weeks. the property owner would have been asked to pay for it, but he has declared bankruptcy. it is the third apartment building to be demolished because of erosion on esplanade. and as we gear up for more possible mudslides, california is sitting on billion dollars of unspent bonds that could help ease the concerns. a study looks back to 2006 when california voters approve $42 billion in new infrastructure bonds. ten years later, roughly $7 billion of bonds still have not been issued. the lead analyst on the research project said that doesn't mean the state is ignoring the issue. rather the projects are complex and the permitting process between forward and state agencies takes time. you can track the approaching storm with abc 7 news app. we have live doppler 7 any time

you wish to see it. enable push alerts and get weather advisories on your phone or tablet. in the south bay, a power out anls has triggered the closure of the santa clara county government building. we were over the scene on west heading and first street. the outage was caused by the failure of three bus boards on a county switch gear. normal business services are expected to resume tomorrow. new this morning, a solano county sheriff's office has a warning for drivers about fake cops pulling people over all over the region. officials say the imposters are using police-type lights that trick drivers. there hasn't been any real crimes committed yet but the sheriff's oft wants to get the word out to stay safe. so if you think the vehicle pulling you over might not be legit, slow down, turn on your hazards, that will let the officer know that you see them and you are not refusing to pull over. second drive directly to a public place where other people are there. and third, call 911 to tell the dispatcher what is going on and they'll alert the local

jurisdiction to come to assist if needed. bay area police union are calling for the removal of a student painting painting officers in a bad light. this is a picture of the painting. the police officers are depicted as warthogs. it is called untitle number one and it won a congressional art competition last year. the painting is now hanging at the u.s. capitol, but san jose and oakland and san francisco police unions are calling on house speaker paul ryan to remove it. saying the painting is disrespectful and could endanger the lives of others. police are looking for someone who spat on a pregnant employee at a fast food restaurant. it was taken inside of the poppy's. when he complained about his order, he jumped over-the-counter and demanded a refund and she gave him the money and he came back and spit

in the clerk's face and left again. sorry we don't have the photo for you but we'll have that on our website later on. developing news. hate crime and battery charges have just been filed against four people in the torture case of a chicago teen. the attack was streamed live on facebook. you see it right here. we have to warn you, details are quite disturbing. here is abc news reporter marcy gonzalez. >> reporter: chicago police say this horrifying video -- is some of the torture endured by a young man with mental health challenges. investigators claim he was held captive for as long as two days, bound and beaten and cut with a knife and verbally abused. including racial slurs and even mention of the president-elect. >> [ bleep ]. >> reporter: all while many laughed and streamed the attack live on facebook. >> it is sickening. it is sickening. it makes you wonder what would make individuals treat somebody like that.

>> reporter: police say the victim's parents reported him missing on monday. while police searched, they claim the parents began getting text messages from people claiming to be his captors. investigators then found this video and discovered the victim wandering on the street, disoriented and alone. >> they saw that this individual was clearly in distress and he was in crisis. >> reporter: he was treated in a hospital and released. police say he knew at least one of his attackers. the two men and two women accused in the attack now face felony charges, including aggravated kidnapping and hate crimes. and a facebook spokesperson told abc news the original video was taken down, adding, quote, we do not allow people to celebrate or glorify crimes on facebook. marcy gonzalez, abc news, new york. san francisco firefighters used quick thinking and creativity to pull off a rescue at a b.a.r.t. station. these are pictures of firefighters carrying a man up the stairs at at 24th street b.a.r.t. station last night. the man somehow got wedged between a platform and a train

flights. at last check there were 173 delays and 141 cancellations. just as denver international airport alone. as you could see, they have been de-icing planes trying to get back on track. many airlines are offering refunds and waiving change fees. and we're going to have a similar problem this weekend. not because of snow, but because of rain. and you know how that works at sfo, mike. >> unfortunately friday night through monday morning, probably have long delays at sfo. let's jump in what is going on right now. you could see clearing on live doppler 7. i have the cloud layer on there. and from our exploratorium camera at peer 15. and the dryer and colder air will mean a frigid night ahead. protect the plants and pipes and pets. a hard freeze in the north bay and east bay valleys, santa clara valley from 3:00 until

9:00, temperatures 24 to 23 degrees. now we will have sp scattered frost around the bay. the usual places, the cold air draining into palo alto, menlo park, and possibly around fremont, union city and ctro valley. so you may want to protect your plants and pets there also. in fact, look at that, 32 at palo alto. fremont 33. sub-freezing temperatures all the way into the east bay with the san ram on valley in the 20s and like santa rosa and petaluma. this is the way it looks right now. who is thinking about freezing cold temperatures when we finally see some sunshine. grab the sunglasses, you need them today. after the coldest night tonight and many areas freezing, dry tonight and then the gusty rain coming this weekend. temperatures, mainly around 50 to 54. 54 in san jose and 50 in san francisco. this is the way it looks in san jose. gorgeous picture-esque day. and upper 40s at 4:00. starting to see some chilled sunshine there. 40s by 6:00 and even some 30s showing up by 8:00 so have the

heavier coat. here we go. by 3:00 on saturday morning, rain rolling in. heavy during the morning hours, especially across the north bay. and then the south bay and the rest of us, up until about 11:00, and then you could see just scattered showers, moderate at times, even another push of some moderate to heavy rain during the evening hours. and then the flood gates just open on sunday morning and that is when we could have the heaviest of the rain start to roll in. in fact, i'm thinking anywhere from four to eight inches in the santa cruz mountains. one to three inches in san jose an the rest of the south bay. two to four inches for the rest of us. three to five up in the north bay valleys. and we've got 10:00 p.m. friday to 10:00 p.m. saturday, a winter storm watch. they had nearly three to seven feet with this last storm, as you could see right there and they could have even more. the only thing drawing them from having another four to five feet is the snow levels get up around 9,000 feet on sunday, we're just

getting pounded with rain. our best chance for damage is going to be sunday. >> that is not even fun to see in when it is that wet. >> thanks, mike. >> macy's closing 68 stores and cutting thousands of jobs as part of a reorganization. they released a list of stores yesterday. all of the bay area stores will remain open for now. in san francisco, the buildings that housed the men's store at union square and the macy's at the mall will be sold and leased back to the company. the closings are among the 100 store closures announced in august. between the closures and disappointing holiday sales they are cutting about 10,000 jobs. so what was the most popular lap downloaded from the app store last year. here is a hint. it had people everywhere walking around in circles, with their eyes glued to their phones. you give up? well it is pokemon go. apple said it was a worldwide phenomenon which helped developers rake in it $20 billion last year. by the time the year was over,
