good morning. it's true, it is friday the 13th. but we are one step closer to the weekend, so it's going to be fine. i'm natasha zouves. >> says you. i'm reggie aqui, neerlgs mike nicco is here. traffic reporter alexis smith is also standing by. friday 13th is not a good omen for b.a.r.t. >> already a scary commute out there this morning, honestly. major problems here. major delay, system-wide, and this is due to a disabled maintenance vehicle so we talked to b.a.r.t. about 10, 15 minutes

ago. they said they can't get this maintenance vehicle to start. and it is stuck on the tracks between macarthur and 19th street station. that is a terrible spot to have those trains not able to pass through. so basically, everyone trying to get from the east bay to san francisco, not able to do that, and vice versa. we have not gotten any new information, so that is still major delay. that is squlus starting to have a ripple effect and that is over a 20-minute delay right now. live look outside bay bridge camera we're totally socked in this morning, dense fog. not only here, mike, but also in the tri-valley, the central valley, and parts of the north bay too. >> it's really starting to move around. i'll show you some of the thickest spots when we come back and do the next weather in about 7 minutes. it's dry, no need for the umbrella this morning. that's not going to hamper your commute. the wetness out there, because there isn't any for once. so let's talk about, you can see from the east bay hills, the fog is starting to fill in the bay too. temperatures are freezing in some inland valley spots, frost to scrape this morning. 30 to 42 is our spread.

low 50s at noon, mid to upper 40s, grab a coat this evening. you'll need the sunglasses today, guys. we are waiting to hear more this morning about the condition of two members of the popular east bay band, tower of power. >> an amtrak train hit them last night. abc7 news reporter matt keller is at highland hospital now. >> reporter: good morning. we are here at highland hospital, both men are here. band spokesperson told us that they are responsive and are being treated. we're also told we will get an update on their condition later today. this all happened in oakland last night at around 8:00. the two band members with the iconic r skpb group, tower of power, were hit by an amtrak train last night on embarcadero west in washington street, right next to yoshi's. that's the venue where they were set to take the stage.

david garibaldi and marc van wageningen were not in the designated crosswalk when they were hit. david garibaldi is one of the original members of tower of power and bassist van wageningen was filling in last night. >> fantastic drummer. i can't believe that he wouldn't cross right in front of the train. that's not like him at all. >> reporter: in a statement, amtrak says the two men were trespassing on the tracks. none of the 26 pictures or crew on board were injured. the band's management is asking for prayers this morning. reporting live in oakland, matt keller, abc7 news. san jose's fire department confirms deicing fluid is to blame for getting a flight attendant sick at san jose's mineta international airport. the fluid is nontoxic. sky7 frs overhead last night after three alaska airline crew members initially reported having symptoms. one flight attendant was hospitalized. no word yet on their condition. passengers told us last night the pilot had suspected deicing fluid they put on the plane in

seattle created a powder that got into the air system. none of the passengers on the plane were affected. in guerneville, finally a break from the rain and now that the russian river is no longer rising the real work begins. abc7 news reporter cornell barnard shows us. >> see what we've got left, what messes we have to clean up. >> reporter: jackie is checking out the mess flooding left behind inside her rv park in guerneville. these plants, which floated out of their pots are the only thing she realizes. >> i always try to look at the hard things and find the good things and hey, california, we needed this water. >> right where i'm standing, down here about 5 feet. >> reporter: co-owner steve says the water got pretty high but at long last it's finally going down. nicole cook is hosing down a muddy mess at her apartment complex on mill street. check out how high the water got up to the doorknob of thethe utility shet shed. ed in, there's a lot to clean

up. >> when it showed that it was going to go over flood stage, we pulled out and went to a campground, stayed there for a while zwlr the russian river now receding below flood stage. seven homes above guerneville are red tagged and remain off limits after a mudslide came dangerously close. authorities fear the slide could topple giant redwoods but for many, the danger has passed. life in guerneville slowly returning to normal. >> finally receded, we can get out. i live on vacation beach side and we've been trapped for five days now, couldn't get out. once the water goes down, we can get back to our homes and come into town and do what we got to do. >> reporter: many know winter flooding is the tradeoff for a quiet life on the river. >> seems like you have a pretty good attitude about all this. >> got to have it. just better than crying yourself to sleep. >> reporter: storm debris dropoff sites will be set up across sonoma county. we've got a list on where to find those on our website,

abc7news.com. in sonoma county, regional parks employees are using kayaks to check the flooded areas. they posted these pictures on facebook. nice rainbow. most river parks in the county are closed because of the flooding. dell value regional park is closed because of the flooding. sky7 flew the area yesterday. you can see where the water is and it's everywhere. campgrounds at the park are closed for next week because of power issues created by the flood. you can keep tabs on approaching storms with live doppler 7. it is on our abc7 news app all the time so make sure you enable push alerts. you'll get advisories sent straight to your phone. a san francisco fire department paramedic is scheduled to be sentenced today after pleading guilty to felony arson. the district attorney's office is recommending that 32-year-old james novello be sentenced to three years probation. he was arrested last august after a bomb went off outside his neighbor's home. novello was charged with 26

counts including possession of a destructive device and attempted arson. police need your help tracking down a purse snatcher or snatchers targeting women at the stanford shopping center. they arrested these two men in san francisco this week, one for being the smted get away driver in two snatchings and the other for an outstanding warrant. police are now looking for at least two other people who were seen in get away cars. a newer red or maroon four-door sedan, possibly a toyota camry in saturday's incident and a black 1996 lexus es 300 four-door sedan in tuesday's attempted purse snatching. novato police are searching for three people who robbed two stores within just one hour. first investigators say two women with a child stole thousands of dollars of items at a safeway on diablo avenue then 30 minutes later a man along with the woman from the safeway incident robbed a sephora. in both incidents, the woman threatened employees with a stun gun. the east bay sports community is making a huge

donation to oakland's ghost ship fire relief effort. representatives from the warriors, the raiders and the as presented a $750,000 check last night to the american red cross and the city of oakland. the presentation came before the warriors game against the detroit pistons. that money came in part from the teams and the more than 3600 individuals who donated to the crowd funding site, you caring.com in the days after the deadly fire. just take a look at what happened on this muni train at third and mariposa in san francisco. see that? someone threw a rock and it nearly shattered an entire car window. these photos came from a passenger. fortunately, no one was hurt. it's not clear if someone in particular was being targeted. muni is going to welcome its newest train at its's rail yard at noon today. they're planning to showcase the light rail vehicle's new features. yesterday, siemen's usa tweeted this photo of the train before it left its saekt plant. it's the first of 24 new trains

that will arrive by the end of next year. this won't go into service right away. it still has rigorous testing ahead of it. two nuns who served san francisco's poor officially have a new home in the mission district. sales force ceo mark benioff and motivational speaker tony robins came out to support the nuns. the commission gave the nuns permission to move their soup kitchen to a building at 16th and mission streets. benioff tweeted out the photos. robbins bought the building after the nuns were hit with a rent increase. some neighbors oppose the location because they say it will attract more homeless people into the area. let's take a look at our maps here this morning for b.a.r.t. we've got a major traffic alert this morning, commuter alert, i should say. so, we've got a disabled maintenance vehicle stuck on the tracks at macarthur and 19th street, so right in between those two stations. we did just talk to b.a.r.t. again and they said they don't know what's wrong with this vehicle. they can't get it to start. they're trying their hardest to

get it out of the way but in the meantime, no trains can pass by and that's a really critical spot where pittsburg, richmond lines all cross. if you're coming into san francisco from the east bay, expect significant delays. quite a bit of fog out this there this morning, i shall the central and tri-valleys. north bay is shifting around quite a bit as well and i was attempting to show you 580. there you go. we've got a still shot for you. it is fairly dense. you can make out those headlights there but you want to slow down and drive for conditions and i know mike nicco had to scrape that windshield again this morning. 32 degrees at my house, getting the ice off there. got a picture i'll show you in a minute. we're starting to get visibility down to a dangerous level, especially in livermore, it's 1/4 mile in novato and also santa rosa so 101 all the way up to santa rosa, pen grove, petaluma, livermore, up through the altamont pass into the tri-valley, just you have to slow down. i know the pavement's mainly dry

and you want to drive as fast as you normally do but today, you got to slow down because of the reduction of visibility. the fog in livermore is going to roll to the east towards dublin. the fog up north is going to stay concentrated in 101 and we may see some of this fog slip into the bay. we have a little bit in san francisco. we've got 39 right now in union city, walnut creek, 38, look at american canyon, 35, bell monitor, one of the warm spots at 36. top out around 53 to 56 degrees, 53 to 59 tomorrow, and then 53 to 58. so pretty steady through the weekend. i do have our next storm dialed in, in my accuweather forecast. i'll have it for you. coming up, the maker of nutella fights back against a study declaring a key ingredient can cause cancer. also --. it's a surprise no one saw

baltimore fire investigationers are looking into the cause of a house fire that killed six children. the fire broke out yesterday morning in a three-story home. the victims range in age from just 9 months old to 11 years old and all are members of the same family. the mother and three other children managed to escape. mom is in the hospital in

critical condition along with two of the kids. and the third child has been released. the father was at work at the time. and now we know the mom has been identified as katie malone, a long-time staff member of maryland congressman elijah cummings. wikileaks founder julian assange will agree to extradition if chelsea manning is released. manning is serving a 35-year sentence for leaking classified documents to wleerks. the twitter account says assange would agree to u.s. extradition despite the clear unconstitutionality of the department of justice case. manning admitted to leaking 700,000 documents in classified materials to wikileaks. she is in solitary confinement now and has served six years of a 35-year sentence. in today's gma first look, the maker of nutella is battling back after a new study claims one of its ingredients is a cancer. >> causing agent. >> in this morning's gma first

time now is 5:24. here are the seven things you need to know before you go. we have some major b.a.r.t. delays this morning but i just got some really good news. this is due to a disabled maintenance vehicle that was stuck on the tracks between macarthur and 19th. they have removed that vehicle and trains are moving through the downtown oakland area. i'll talk about how long those delays are coming up in just a minute. number two, conditions are developing right now for the potential of black ice. we have thick fog you can see right here as we open the weather window on the exploratorium into san francisco. our temperatures here above freezing but inland valleys where we're below freezing and some thick fog. we'll talk about that. number three, two members of the oakland band tower of power are in critical condition now after being hit by a train in jack london square last night. officials say david garibaldi and marc van wageningen crossed the tracks while the guard arms were down. shortly before their show at a nearby nightclub. number four, the marin ij reports a resident of marin has died of meningitis.

and good morning. watch out for black cats crossing your path for it is friday the 13th. i'm reggie aqui. >> i'm natasha zouves. we have meteorologist mike nicco here. >> good morning. >> and it seems like maybe friday the 13th has changed our b.a.r.t. issue, right? >> we've had a scary commute so far this morning but we are starting to improve. the latest with our commuter alert with b.a.r.t. is that we've got the disabled maintenance vehicle that was stuck on the tracks between macarthur and 19th street stations removed so that is out of there and that was the major problem, trains could not bypass that so everyone trying to get from the east bay into san francisco and vice versa weren't able to do that but about, oh, i'd say, five, six, minutes ago they reported that trains are moving through oakland once again. just checked. we first heard about this

problem about 4:40 so we're talking about 40 minutes that we had trains basically stopped getting through that area. so we still have major delays and that means over 20 minutes for now. we have a lot of fog out there this morning. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. almost a perfect setting for a friday the 13th movie with all that fog. live doppler 7, i've overlaid the fog on it. you can see a half mile in livermore. quarter in novato all the way up to santa rosa, 3/4 in napa and you can see fog across the bay also so watch out for varying visibilities as you drive this morning. 34 to 42 so grab a heavier coat. lots of sunshine, make sure you have those sunglasses, low to 50s throughout the afternoon. tracking our next chance of rain is a 2 on our storm impact scale. let's get back to that b.a.r.t. issue and see what kind of impact it's having on passengers. >> matt keller is live at the macarthur station. >> reporter: good morning. at least it's friday, right?

but now we have major delays. system-wide here for b.a.r.t. but we do have some good news. they have cleared that up and restored service in downtown oakland and trains are moving in all directions through downtown oakland people are waiting for the san francisco millbrae train. the train took off so that's a good news for people who are here. and they are making an announcement right now over the loud speaker saying that there is a disruption in service so we'll see how long these delays are worked through and how long it will take for them to go through. i do see a train that is parked right outside the station here. it's not moving toward us, so i'm not sure what that means, and we'll have to use our patience here along with all the rest of the passengers who are waiting for their next train. new this morning, someone who lived in marin died of meningitis and now there's fear of exposure. >> the health department is currently trying to track down hundreds who took suolcycle

classes with the victim. >> reporter: classes are scheduled this morning after a rider reportedly died from bacterial meningitis. health officials are concerned that hundreds of people who shared a classroom with that person could have been exposed. this was first reported in the marin independent journal. it says that the patient died from bacterial meningitis and that health officials were notified tuesday. a soul cycle manager sent a note to other riders saying classrooms and bikes have been clean and had sterilized. here are some of the ways bacterial meningitis can spread. through saliva, coughing, kissing, or other lengthy contact. the risk of actually contracting it is low. however, the manager here did send out a note to other riders urging them to see a doctor and alerting them of the death. reporting live in larkspur, abc7 news.

developing news now, two members of iconic bay area band tower of power remain hospitalized this morning after being hit by an amtrak train in oakland. long-time drummer david garibaldi and bassist marc van wageningen were hit last night outside of yoshi's just minutes before they were scheduled to perform there. officials say the two crossed the tracks while the warning gad arms were down. both men were taken to highland hospital in critical condition. they are said to be responsive. their passenger said this morning they will release another update on their condition later today. last night's shows were immediately canceled. this is facebook video of the band performing earlier this week. tower of power's compromised of about a dozen musicians. it's been a popular institution in urban soul music since forming in oakland in 1968. a serious warning to flood victims in hollister this morning. do not use the water. for any reason. that means no drinking, no washing, not even if you boil it. and do not give it to your pets. emergency officials for san benito county say well water

could be contaminated by sewage, pesticides or other hazardous materials. sky7 was over the area yesterday east of gilroy and south of highway 153. the county says fresh water is going to be delivered door to door for those impacted. starting today, disposal sites will be available in sonoma county for residents and businesses affected by russian river flooding. the river dropped below flood stage in guerneville last night after reaching its highest level in a decade. many homes and cars took in several feet of water and damage estimated to be in the millions right now. seven homes are red tagged so far after a close call bay mudslide. authorities are still concerned that giant redwoods in that area could come down. we have a list of debris dropoff sites on our website, abc7news.com. we have new video from drone 7 showing the enormity of this damage from the week's powerful weather. it flew over alhambra valley road minor pinole yesterday and you can see the massive hole caused by storm erosion underneath the pavement. the breach measures 70 feet wide

and 30 feet deep. you can see as drone 7 flies into the gap, the fast moving river of water at the base washed away a whole lot of earth. that road is closed indefinitely. and you can keep tabs on approaching storms with live doppler 7. go ahead, download the abc7 news app, be sure to enable push alerts to get advisories sent straight to your phone or tablet. deicing fluid is what kauded a flight attendant to get sick on a plane yesterday. alaska airlines told san jose's fire department residue from the fluid is what caused the issue. but that it's actually nontoxic. three flight attendants reported feeling sick about 20 minutes before the plane landed in san jose. only one went to the hospital. passengers say they heard from the pilot about what happened. >> the deicing fluid they put on in seattle created some kind of powder that got in the air system and they were checking it out. >> one of them was talking about he had -- he felt like his chest -- something was wrong with him for like 10 minutes. he felt woozy or something like

that. >> we are working to get an update on that crew member's condition. none of the 181 passengers on the plane was affected. the family of a man shot in a confrontation with san francisco police says officers used excessive force. >> you shot another black man in san francisco. >> he's not an animal. he's a person with a mental condition. >> abc7 news was at a packed town hall meeting where the mother and brother of sean moore stoke directly to the interim police chief last night. officers shot moore twice in the city last week. police say they were breaking up a fight between him and his neighbor when they were assaulted. >> subject had already kicked one officer and punched another officer in the face and that officer fell backwards down the start and that subject was coming down the stairs toward the second officer when he discharged his firearm. >> moore's family says he is bipolar and schizophrenic and they believe they could have deescalated the situation.

moore is many intensive care conscious and talking. he faces felony assault charges. vallejo police need your help in identifying the gunman in the deadly shooting of a pawnshop owner. armed robbers killed 49-year-old tom thooe pult on december 20. they also wounded a store worker who was in a wheelchair. this is a surveillance video, shows the two men considered suspects in the crime. they burst into the shop on springs road pointing wechz weapons. police want you to look at the sketch they released of one of those men. the state pawnbrokers association is offering a $25,000 reward in that case. a commuter alert. >> okay. well, we are improving but we still have a major delay system-wide for b.a.r.t. this morning. all started with a disabled maintenance vehicle. they couldn't get it to start and that was stuck on the tracks between mcarthur and19th street stations. service is being restored. we just saw matt at west oakland station and it looks like those trains that are moving through are making up folks quickly and

about 4:40, we got word they could not get a maintenance vehicle off the tracks. they got that resolved but that was a long time that trains could not pass through the downtown oakland area. they are moving now in all directions and just checked in with matt keller at west oakland station, trains are coming through quickly. it's a major delay, though. so that means more than 20 minutes, usually about 30 minutes. i think they're starting to make some progress, though. overall, pretty light day on the roads here. check out westbound 580 approaching altamont pass, only 22 miles an hour. that's really not too bad. normally we're down to several more miles of that and much lower speeds and here's a live look at the south bay, lawrence expressway, everyone moving along through that intersection just fine. not much fog this morning but it's definitely out there this morning. let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco. it's on the move. you could have rapidly changing conditions as you are driving or commuting or whatever you're going this morning. hi, everybody. here's a look at live doppler 7. you know it is dry.

recalling 543,000 cars and this is on top of the nearly 775,000 cars recalled by honda this week. more than 100 million vehicles have been recalled worldwide. there are a lot of makes and models involved in this latest round. we have posted all the details on our website. >> takata is expected to plead guilty as soon as today on criminal wrong doing. the "wall street journal" reports takata would pay about $1 billion to resolve the u.s. justice department's probe. the defective airbags have killed at least 16 people. more recall news. more than 3,000 electric skateboards made right here by a mountain view company are being recalled. take a look at video from boosted. this is the second generation dual plus skateboard. the battery packs started to smoke after water got inside. the company says they will no longer market the boards as water resistant and owners should stop using them immediately, go to the website for information on replacement batteries. nintendo's new game console

major delay after a truck got stranded on the tracks. let's get right to abc7 news reporter matt keller live for us at the macarthur b.a.r.t. station. >> reporter: really frustrating morning. it is really cold out here at the macarthur station. a lot of people are bundling up waiting for the next train. we've seen a lot of trains coming through over the last half hour. but one of the problems that is happening for these passengers that are coming here is they're getting stacked up at the beginning of the macarthur station so all these trains are actually stopping on the tracks long before they get to the station here, so the delays, you can really see them coming in to the station here in oakland. i talked with one passenger who was really frustrated by his morning on b.a.r.t. >> we just got here. i'm fed up. i'm getting off and going back in the other direction because i don't know how bad it's going to be up there. >> reporter: we've been hearing
