the president-elect during his campaign. in a few days, they'll see him sworn in as the 45th president of the united states. >> this is all about trump. this is all about seeing him sworn in. i can't imagine who we're going to see at the inaugural ball, or that we're even going to an official inaugural ball. it's actually mind blowing. >> he is one of an estimated 300,000 bay area residents who voted for mr. trump. he and his partner, juan, are jetting off in a couple of days and they'll be in d.c. for five days. live in santa clara, lonnie rivera, abc 7 news. many of the two dozen members of congress who will not attend the inauguration made the decision after this weekend's war of words between the president-elect and representative john lewis. in a network interview, lewis said he did not consider mr. trump to be a legitimate president because of russia's influence in our election.

crimea, ukraine, the build-up of russians nukes. not good. was this the leaker of fake news? he says there was unfair coverage caused by leaked information caused by intelligence officials. democratic congressman from the east bay says congress has an obligation to investigate russian meddling in the election. he told abc 7 he wants to appoint a bipartisan, independent commission to look into the russian influence on the election to make sure this never happens again. >> it would allow congress to appoint outside experts, so foreign policy, armed services, national security and elections experts, to look back with access to the classified information, declassify as much as possible, debunk a lot of the myths that president-elect trump has put out there about what actually happened. most importantly, as i said, depoliticize this so it is taken out of congress and put into the hands of independent

opened sports arena republ republic. people running to get out of the way before the roof falls. 80 people were inside at the time. all of them sprinted and managed to escape just in the nick of time. two teenagers had minor injuries. still, not clear at this point why the roof started collapsing. >> i've never seen anything like that. crazy. the search is on for a gunman who shot two people outside of the hyatt place hotel in emeryville. a witness tells abc 7 news the victims worked for her non-profit. our emeryville camera shows a man being taken out of the shopping center which is across the street. police say he ran into the store after the shooting. both victims are expected to survive. police do not believe the two were staying at the hotel. bart police are searching for the thieves their facility off of port

chicago highway. a bart electrician called police. investigators are process the scene for fingerprints. more snow expected to fall around lake tahoe in the coming week. you're looking at photos provided by north star resort, showing some of the 15 feet of snow they already have this month. that marks the largest january snowfall in 45 years. the next storm is supposed to arrive late tomorrow. that should dump up to two feet of snow on the mountains. this is just going to pile up as we continue to get more rain. the rain, mike, you say will start around the same time, wednesday. >> wednesday through monday. we get rain wednesday through monday. they get a lot of snow, couple of feet again for the next couple of days. at home, couple of nice days. not only here but also in tahoe. let's look at areas not dealing so well. denver, we have snow. chicago, we have ice. it is going to turn over to rain. hopefully, that won't affect your flights too much this morning. he's a look from the east bay

hills. pretty clear out there. we have fog in the inland valleys. it'll be sunny this afternoon for all of us. milder. three storms wednesday with a wet week but not a washout. the storm impact scale, moderate for the storm wednesday. moderate to heavy downpours during tevhe evening hours. high clouds increase tomorrow afternoon. high clouds wednesday afternoon. by noon, scattered, light showers ahead of steadier rain in the north bay. yellows and oranges throughout the afternoon hour. moderate rain in the north pay. it moves to the heart of the bay during the evening rush. by midnight, it is out of here. this first storm, the moderate to heavy rains, nothing for the morning commute. everything falls during the evening commute. possibly an inch and a half in the mountains. it'll taper to a light storm thursday. moderate on friday. light storm on saturday. sunday showing tendencies to be a strong storm. because it is still a ways out there, we're going to keep an eye on it.

yet about the proposal, other than to say it'll include health care for all. that's not sitting so well with thousands of people who rallied in the bay area and across the country to save obamacare this weekend. in san francisco, the mayor, congresswoman nancy pelosi led thousands of people in a rally at city hall. there was a smaller rally held in richmond. many people at the rallies are concerned about losing their coverage under a new system. >> i'm worried that medicare benefits will be decreased and more and more of the burden will be expected to be carried by each individual person. >> it is already gone. it is a done deal. that was decided long ago. now, they'll take six months to design the new program, which will work for the entire country. >> republicans pushed a measure through congress that will stop any effort by democrats to filibuster a repeal bill. facebook says it is unveiling measures designed to stop fake news from spreading in germany before the country holds its national election.

menlo park-based facebook is partnering with corrective. it'll be facebook's first ever outside fact checker. facebook faced criticism in germany for what some call an insufficient response to hate speech. germany's national election is set for september. fire season might be months away but a group of volunteer it is showing it is never too soon to get ready. abc 7 news was above the caldecott tunnel, which burned years ago in a fire storm. volunteers came from the world mission society church of god in hayward. president obama honored that group in the past. a sixth grader in iowa is standing up to cancer and bullies thanks to his principal. jackson johnson's grandfather has cancer and chemo is causing him to lose his hair. johnson shaved his head so he and his grandfather can be part of the club. not all his classmates thought it was an adorable idea. specifically, one kid at school.

>> at my first class, someone said, well, you look like you have cancer. >> the principal heard about that encounter and decided to do something about it. he let johnson shave his head at a school assembly. look at this video. the principal says he has lost family members to cancer, too, and he knows how important this haircut is for johnston. if your team loses, the last thing you want to do is hang around the stadium. that's exactly what happened to some dallas cowboys fans. they couldn't leave the stadium yesterday because there was a tornado warning in the area. for three hours, they had to wait it out. adding insult to injury after a close game against the packers. the cowboys lost to green bay, 34-31 on a last-minute field goal. also, the pittsburgh steelers beat the kansas city chiefs, 18-16. >> they lost and had to sit there languishing in the loss for several hours. that's the worst. awful. misery loves company, right? hundreds of jobs are up for grabs in the east bay right now.

challenges this past year with the city of walnut creek. city officials recommended it close earlier at 12: 30 a.m. instead of 2:00 a.m. police also responded to this address about 700 times since 2012. there was a deadly shooting outside crogan's last summer. a 38-year-old man was shot and killed after getting into an argument. a lot of patrons are sad to see crogan's go. some neighboring business owners are relieved. >> walnut creek is coming up and changing. and to, you know -- i hate to say the word riffraff, but truly, out of that area, it is going to make my studio a lot more pleasant to be in. >> crogan's announced on a facebook invite that it is holding a farewell celebration next sunday. that party starts at noon and it ends at 12:30 a.m. reporting live from downtown walnut creek, abc 7 news.

>> thank you. the chp hoping you can help track down the person who opened fire on another car in the east bay. officers say someone fired at this suv. two men were inside. this mercedes. this was on state route 24 the in concord around 5:00 yesterday. the driver was injured. the other person was not. at least five bullet holes can be seen on that car. police say they have little to go on and they need the public's help. >> we always get there after the fact. but everybody that's out there, you guys are our eyes and you guys are our ears. we need to get these people out of the streets that ar causing these crimes -- that are doing these crimes. that are taking people's lives. >> the driver is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. his passenger was taken in for questioning. there have been almost 40 shootings on bay area freeways in the past year and a half. 6:33 now. a contra costa sheriff's deputy is out of a job and facing five counts of attempted murder after

firing his gun inside a house party. 23-year-old kyle roland is being held without bail in a sacramento jail this morning. police say no one was hurt. by the time they got there, he was being retrained by other people at the party. he just joined the contra costa county sheriff's office in october and was still on probationary stt tuatus. he was fired over the weekend. roland is well-known among sacramento's music community as the lead singer of kyle roland blues band. a neighbor heard a woman screaming and saw what he thought was a kip ndnapping. it happened yesterday afternoon near durham road and topaz way. he saw women's legs out of a sedan before it sped off. surveillance videos don't cover this location. there are no missing persons reports but police are issuing a warning as a precaution. a weekend war of words between president-elect trump and a civil rights icon

a clerical error that could cost epa each of them thousands of dollars. pensions for 300 retired firefighters was overpaid by nearly $1 million. retirement officials blame inaccurate salary figures from the city's finance office. the problem was discovered in 2009. retirees weren't notified until this month. retirement officials say it took their office years to sift through the records. similar problem surfaced in november when officials discovered $500,000 in overpayment to non-service retirees. people are disappointed ringling bros. barnum & bailey surface is shutting down. they think something else will emerge. >> there is an appetite for seeing people do unbelievable things in the flesh. >> abc 7 news was at the circus center in san francisco where people train to be in circus acts. performers say going to the circus is a tradition for many families. they're sorry that's being lost. they also see ringling's

sticking with the animal theme theme, more than a dozen horses are heading from the san joaquin valley to washington, d.c. for friday's inauguration. members of the merced sheriff's posse practiced at home for the last time over the weekend. riders will be flying east tomorrow to meet up with their horses. the posse plans to be on in parade, it points out, no matter who was elected president. all the wet weather in california is going to bring a spectacular spring according to the bay area newsgroup. yosemite officials say visitors should expect amazing waterfalls, bubbly creeks, carpets of wildflowers and lush grass. livermore's park remains this muddy mess. it took the biggest hit in the storms. rain flooded beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas. officials say it may cost hundreds of thousands to clean up the mess and restore beaches. >> let's get to mike nicco. he says the weather window, we'll get rain coming on
