are also here in d.c., many to celebrate, many others to protest. tomorrow a massive women's march it take place on the national mall. as many as 200,000 people are expected. ork annizers say they want to tell the new administration that on day one women's rights are human rights. >> personally i've been waiting for a place to plug in in some universal way, in a national way. >> reporter: there were protests today as well, some turning violent. others are celebrating and looking forward to the change that president trump is promising to bring. hundreds of thousands witnessed his swearing in ceremony at the u.s. capitol capped off by three official inaugural balls tonight ♪ i did it my way >> a new era ushered in with some old traditions. president donald trump and first

lady melania made the rounds at three inaugural balls, celebrating the end of this historic day. >> preserve, protect and defend. >> the constitution of the united states. >> the constitution of the united states. >> so help me god. >> so help me god. >> congratulations, mr. president. >> the 45th president of the united states was sworn into office, then shared with the cheering crowd his vision for the country. >> it is going to be only america first. >> reporter: former president obama is now on vacation in palm springs after moving out of the white house, leaving a note for his successor and these words for the american people. >> this has been the privilege of my life. >> reporter: and though protesters clashed with police in the streets of the nation's capital, it did not stop the work from beginning or the thousands of supporters from lining pennsylvania avenue for the inaugural parade, honoring the new president. at the liberty ball tonight the

president had a few comments about the weather on his big day. >> and the crowd was unbelievable today. you know, i looked at the rain, which just never came. do you know, we finished the speech, went inside, it poured. then we came outside, the helicopter scene was an incredible scene, and then, amazingly, it rained and then we went out. it is like god was looking down on us. >> reporter: donald trump also signed his first executive order today for federal agencies to ease the burden of president obama's sweeping healthcare law. it comes after congress voted for a full repeal of the affordable care act. now, today we met a lot of about 'em from the bay area who traveled 3,000 miles to be in washington, one man from orinda has this message to those who did not support the president. >> they need to give him a chance. america needs change, he is going to bring change. some of it they will like, some

they may not like, but they've got to give him a chance. >> reporter: do you think he will be a good president? >> i think he'll be a great president. >> reporter: of course, all of those who came here to protest president trump have a different message they want to tell the nation, that they are watching and that they expect president trump to look after their interests as well. it is the weekend, tomorrow is saturday. for most folks that's a day off, but for newly-sworn in president donald trump, this will be his first day at the 45 th presiden of the united states, capping off a really interesting celebratory day here in washington, filled with just tremendous events. i think everyone who came here to celebrate the inauguration left happy. those who are here to protest also got their voices heard, and tomorrow on the national mall they will do that big time. 200,000 expected in the women's march to protest this new administration. we'll of course provide coverage of the president's first full

lined the street while attorneys observed. >> we're here to make sure people get the chance to protest peacefully, and hoping to help people protest and avoid being arrested. >> reporter: a diverse crowd bouncing from one police line to the next. >> everything has been peaceful. i would describe it as tense at times, but peaceful. >> i can resist. >> i can resist. >> reporter: an open mike event earlier in the day garnered large, emotional crowds. >> i'm a veteran. i served. i served in the united states navy, you know. if i was in the service today i would go awol many i would not serve under him. he does not belong in the white house. >> reporter: the socialist alternative is organizing for the trump administration. >> mass movements will be necessary to stop trump's attacks. >> reporter: police arrested three people, two for vandalism with a marker or spray paint, one for resisting arrest. in oakland, katie utehs, "abc 7 news." >> now to our storm watch coverage, northbound lanes have opened in los gatos after this

tree fell. all southbound are block. chp says drivers are going the wrong way to try to find a detour. some stuck for hours. >> hollister people who near the creek are evacuating again after a levy breach widened. the forewith sandhya patel in a minute, but first to katie marzullo in hollister. >> reporter: eric, this is the office of emergency services command post. it is where authorities have been closely monitoring the forecast and the level of the creek. because that creek flooded again today, people had to flee their homes for the second time in as many weeks. from sky 7 you can see the homes on lovers lane under water, again. >> approximately 21 to 22 residences, 22 homes, that were directly affect by flooding. those residents were evacuated. >> reporter: some people had to be rescue willed. rain sent the refer over its banks an -- >> the original levy that broke

widened. it doubled approximately in size. >> reporter: a specialist with the company took this drone video and created 3 d images that showed the break. >> that levy has been increased to about there. that die mission is over 100 feet. >> reporter: at the height of the evacuations, about 20 people took shelter at the veterans memorial building in hollister including children. >> we brought some toys in and the kids are having a good time, but everybody is kind of quiet. >> reporter: the red cross will be provided cots for anyone who needs to spend the night, and it is an uncertain night ahead. >> with the additional rain it is impossible to predict how much the affected area will grow to be. >> reporter: a mandatory evacuation order still in place. in hollister, "abc 7 news." . former president obama and first lady michelle waved good buy today to washington and began a vacation if palm springs. however, the weather was so bad the plane had to be diverted to march air reserve base in riverside. the obamas plan to spend a week in palm springs. most californians aren't happy to say donald trump take over the oval office. >> has been tracking a protest march in san francisco. he joins us live. sergio, has anybody been arrest? >> reporter: there were no arrests. it was a large, loud but peaceful group. they marched throughout the city, finally ending their

demonstrate here in city hall. police estimate more than 2,000 people marched through the streets of san francisco, many in this crowd couldn't participate in other demonstrations through the day, so they braved the cold and rain to be present here. >> everyone is committed, even though it is uncomfortable. it will be a lot more uncomfortable with the government, the new government. a lot more uncomfortable than rain and wind. >> reporter: this is a coalition of groups with varying causes, united in their opposition to the new president and his administration. >> whether it is women's rights, guy rights, climate change, labor rights, almost every issue you can think of, for some reason he has appoint he cabinet ministers who are in opposition to those issues. >> reporter: along with some of the many progressive issues, there were also people here concerned about basic issues like science. one group is a team of postdoctoral researchers. >> they're really concerned that, you know, the work that they're contributing for

coastline. high wind watch saturday night into sunday morning. southerly win gusts. could be stronger over the hills and along the does, a flash flood watch in effect for the entire bay area until 6:00 p.m. sunday. you could see flooding, ponding on the roadways and hydro plaining. mud slides and rock slides will be an issue. when you get several storms, one after another with not much time to dry out, you will get those issues. hour-by-hour forecast, sat your tear at 4:00 p.m. scattered showers. get out and enjoy your weekend. 7:00 you are looking at the main line of rain moving in, and it gets heavier by 10:00 p.m. some pops of yellow indicating moderate to heavy rain. north of clear lake in the hills, it turns to snow. 3:00 a.m. sunday, don't be surprised if it is really pouring around 5:00 a.m. as well. hopefully you don't have early morning plans. if you do, just keep that in mind. scattered showers for sunday afternoon. still light to moderate intensity. can't rule out a slight chance
