hey, good morning to you. it's saturday, january 21. i'm krb in for chris nguyen. >> good morning, cornell. we are not done with the rain by any stretch of the means. in fact, this morning, we are going to be in a lull, really throughout the afternoon. this morning, we do have some of these downpours and heavier rain with a bigger storm, the biggest of the three is on the way. here's a look at live doppler 7. where you can see the downpours from marin county down through mill valley across to the san pablo bay area and then down around 280, highway 1, the san mateo bridge, 92 is wet and rain, snow, mix here on top of mt. hamilton, further south and you can see the rain from hollister, and that is a

particular concern where we have had some flooding here and so we have a flood advisory, a flood warning in effect until 3:45 on monday, and in fact, the entire bay area under a flood watch through tomorrow afternoon. you can see temperatures are in the 40s right now, we're looking at some more gusty winds and a 2 on our storm impact scale. i'll detail you -- detail the rain for you coming up and pass on the advisories in just a few minutes. >> thank you so much. today is the first day of donald trump's presidency. it was a historic and busy day and night for the trump family. there was both pomp and circumstance and getting right to work. people from across the country, including many here in the bay area, are in d.c. to protest today in today's women's march. >> i've been rating for a place to plug in, in some universal

first. >> reporter: former president obama is now on vacation in palm springs after moving out of the white house, leaving a note for his successor and these words for the american people. >> this has been the privilege of my life. >> reporter: and though protesters clashed with police in the streets of the nation's capital, it did not stop the work from beginning. or the thousands of supporters from lining pennsylvania avenue for the inaugural parade. honoring the new president. the president had a few comments about the weather on his big day. >> the crowd was unbelievable. i looked at the rain, which just never came. you know, we finished the speech, went inside, it poured, then we came outside, the helicopter scene was an incredible scene, and then amazingly, it rained and then we went out. it's like god was looking down

on us. >> reporter: donald trump also signed his first executive order for federal agencies to ease the burden of president obama's sweeping health care law. it comes after congress voted for a full repeal of the affordable care act. he met a lot of people from the bay area who traveled 3,000 miles to be in washington. one man from orinda has this message to those who did not support the president. >> they need to give him a chance. america needs change. he's going to bring change. some of it they'll like, some of it they may not like, but they got to give him a chance. >> reporter: do you think he'll be a good president? >> i think he'll be a great president. >> reporter: of course all the folks who came here to protest president trump have a different message that they want to tell the nation, that they are watching and that that expect president trump to look after their interests as well. for newly sworn-in president donald trump, this will be his first full day as the 45th president of the united states, capping off, really, an interesting, celebratory day

here in washington filled with just tremendous events and i think everyone who came here to celebrate the inauguration left happy. those who were here to protest also got their voices heard. in washington, dan ashley, abc7 news. >> today, thousands of people in 600 cities worldwide are expected to take part in those women's marches. one of the majors -- major ones are planned here in oakland, san francisco, and san jose. protest marches took place last night as well. abc7 news reporter katie utehs has more from oakland. >> we are here to help facilitate your march but you need to move eastbound on the sidewalk. >> reporter: a tightly corralled march of several hundred people circled downtown oakland. >> people are angry, frustrated. they feel like they're government hasn't heard them. >> reporter: oakland police lined the streets as local attorneys observed. >> we're here to make sure that people get their chance to protest peacefully and we're hoping to help people protest and yet avoid being arrested.

>> reporter: a diverse crowd bouncing from one police line to the next. >> everything's been peaceful. i would describe it as tense at times, but peaceful. >> i can resist. >> reporter: an open mike event earlier in the day garnered large, emotional crowds. >> i'm a veteran. i served in the united states navy but if i was in the service today, i would go awol. i would not serve under him. he does not belong in the white house. >> reporter: the socialist alternative is organizing for the trump administraton. >> mass movements are going to be necessary to stop trump's attacks. >> reporter: police arrested three people, two for vandalism with a marker or spray paint, one for resisting arrest. in oakland, katie utehs, abc7 news. >> a protest was also held last night in san francisco. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana was there and has the story. >> reporter: police estimate more than 2,000 people marched through the steets of san francisco. many in this crowd couldn't participate in other

demonstrations through the day so they braved the cold and rain to be present here. >> everyone's committed, even though it's uncomfortable. it's going to be a lot more uncomfortable with the government -- the new government. a lot more uncomfortable than rain and wind. >> reporter: this is a coalition of groups with varying causes, yielded in their opposition to the new president and his administration. >> so whether it's women's rights, gay rights, climate change, labor rights, almost every issue you can think of, for some reason, he's appointed cabinet ministers who are in opposition to that those. >> reporter: along with some of the many progressive issues, there are also people here concerned about basic issues like science. one group is a team of post-doctoral researchers. >> they're really concerned that the work that they're contributing for american science is, you know, might not happen that much longer if the funding isn't there zplr many here say they've never felt so uncertain about their national government and this day of

protest may be the first of many to come. in san francisco, sergio quintana, abc7 news. three people were arrested in a protest in san jose. jason green with bay area news group captured these pictures downtown. we have the routes mapped out for today's planned women's marches in the bay area on our website, abc7news.com so you can see if they will impact where you live. now to our storm watch coverage. in hollister, people who live near pachenco creek evacuated again after a levee breach there widened. the office of emergency service sz keeping a close eye on the forecast and the level of the creek this weekend. >> reporter: from sky7, you can see the homes on lovers lane underwater again. >> approximately 21 to 22 residences, 22 homes that were directly affected by the flooding. those residences were evacuated. >> reporter: some people had to be rescued. the problem was twofold. rain sent the river over its banks and -- >> the original levee that did

break was widened. it doubled, approximately, in size. >> reporter: a specialist with the company tax at networks took this drone video and created 3d images that show the break. >> that levee has now been increased to about there and that dimension is over 100 feet. >> reporter: at the height of the evacuations, 20 people took shelter at the veterans memorial building in hollister, including children. >> we brought them toys in and the kids are having a good time. but everybody's kind of quiet. >> reporter: the red cross will be providing cots for anyone who needs to spend the night. >> with the additional rain it's almost impossible to predict how much further the affected area will grow to be. >> reporter: a mandatory evacuation order is still in place. in hollister, katie just before 11:30 last night in los gatos, one homeowner said he heard the trees cracking but thought it was thunder.

when he went outside, he found the trees down in the road. pg&e working to restore power to one customer in that area. all lanes of highway 17 in los gatos back open this morning after this tree fell. some drivers were stuck on the freeway for hours as crews worked to clear the debris. chp reopened lanes just after 1:00 this morning. so much rain and a lot more on the way, right? >> yeah, we're going to see scenes like that for sure into the weekend and beyond with the snow continuing in the sierra nevada but the heaviest rain arrives tonight into early tomorrow. here's a live look outside. 49 degrees, mid 40s inland and there is rain all around the bay area, but we are expecting a bit of a break today before the heaviest is yet to come. i'll have the full accuweather forecast in just a few minutes. also next, coming out of the shadows. see where republicans gathered to celebrate the inauguration right here in the bay area. and the legal battle over who actually owns the name

good morning. much of the bay area waking up to rain. yeah, you guessed it. especially here in the san mateo bridge where it's going to be a wet route all the way across to hayward or to san mateo, wherever you're going this morning. lisa argen is going to tell us about another storm heading our way and you want to get all the details with her when wh she comes in with her forecast in just a few minutes. peaceful anti-trump demonstration brought thousands to golden gate bridge yesterday morning. participants formed a human chain. organizers say it was to show unity as the strongest bridge of all. abc7 news reporter elissa harrington shows us more from that event. >> it's very exciting to be a

part of this. >> reporter: as president donald trump was sworn into office, thousands in san francisco gathered on the golden gate bridge and linked arms. this was not called a protest but instead a show of unity. >> all the reasons why you're unhappy or all the reasons why you don't like the results, it wasn't about that. it was about goodness, goodness coming to the. >> we're trying to show that love trumps hate and we're stronger together and you don't get anything by violence. >> reporter: video from sky7 shows roughly 3500 people forming a human chain that nearly stretched the entire span of the bridge. >> love, love, love. >> reporter: the peaceful ant anti-trump, called bridge together golden gate, was put together as a performance art piece. >> i hope that we can group together and make political change to make it a more inclusive country. >> reporter: you'll notice a lot of protesters wearing the color purple. they tell me this is symbolic of both party colors mixed together and stands for anti-bullying.

zain grim is skeptical of the new president and his promise to make america great again. >> i think it's pretty great right now. and i think the people who are here at the demonstration also believe that it's a great place right now. and we don't need him. >> reporter: the event closed several parking lots, including the one by the welcome center and vista point. they have since reopened. in san francisco, elissa harrington, abc7 news. well, the port of oakland are will resume normal operations today following a union protest against president trump that caused headaches yesterday. it began yesterday morning when numerous long shore workers didn't report to work. that caused one shipping terminal to close. vessel operations were also suspended for a time. truckers were backed up for hours. >> what hurt us is one of the terminals closed down. we got a lot of loads over there that we couldn't get done today. >> long shoreman union workers have been vocal opponents of president trump.

it wasn't all protests yesterday. abc7 news was in santa rosa at the in a minigo hotel where republicans came to party. >> well, republicans are thrilled to be able to come to a room where they can all talk and not be abused. >> and that defensive attitude from the winners was also present earlier yesterday. republicans at this inaugural watch party didn't want the media to come inside, saying they feared retaliation from neighbors. there were some minor confrontations between some uc berkeley students and students from the campus republican club. hundreds quickly filled sprawl plaza fn or anti-trump rally yesterday. lyanne melendez was there. >> reporter: berkeley high school students marched to cal in a show of solidarity with students already protesting. >> the only way we can get through these next four years is with support and love. >> reporter: didn't have the intensity of other uc berkeley demonstrations seen in previous

years. still, students seem to show the same commitment towards helping multicultural groups. >> and most importantly, it's to give them the strength and the encouragement and the support that's needed to go through the trump years. >> reporter: some faculty also came to support students. >> i'm very concerned about what i'm seeing, both in terms of the language, the visual symbolisms. >> we will bring back our borders. >> reporter: those words heard through a bull horn were spoken today by president trump and played over and over by uc berkeley college republicans. its members said they wanted other students to know they are here. at one point, both sides exchanged words. >> they're unhappy with the outcome of the election, but you know, here we are, january 20, new president, let's move forward. >> all of my friends have been personally attacked by his comments about women, about muslim americans, about immigrants and it's just disgusting to me that this hatred is allowed to be so open. i'm not going to allow it to

is wet into the santa cruz mountains. it's been snowing steadily and chain controls here with a winter storm warning in effect until monday morning. 2 1/2 feet expected above 4,000 feet and we're looking at some very gusty winds, winds gusting to about 30 miles an hour. so, temperatures in the 40s, low 50s, it is foggy in livermore, so yeah, we are just stuck in this wet, wet pattern. adding to it, we have some monster surf out there with westerly swells anywhere from 24 to 28 feet, right in there tomorrow, so very dangerous, and we are expecting ponding on roadways, stream and creek flooding, power outages, and the possibility of some river flooding around guerneville, san anselmo creek, and also debris flows very high due to the saturated soils and the flood watch in effect right through tomorrow so we're looking at that ponding, likely as the very heavy rain gets going late

tonight and lasts through early sunday, and this is the last in a series of systems, so looking at the high wind watch with our storm impact scale, moderate tonight into tomorrow, so timing out the system by today. this is just a scattered showers out ahead of it so here comes the main event. it's 7:00 tonight and then look what happens through the 11:00 hour. so, with the winds, yeah, you guessed it, we're gusting to 50 miles an hour along the coast but once the front moves through, the winds dial back and we will be looking at much lagter rain showers tomorrow. so here's the rest of your day on sunday. we're looking at the scattered showers, 11:00, the front has moved through but check it out, more rain behind it. so, rainfall totals, well, we are looking at once again about 1 1/2 inches in san francisco, better than that in the santa cruz mountains. here's the accuweather 7 day

authorities over a parking ticket. the ticket didn't even belong to her but everything she did to convince the citation company of that didn't really work so she contacted "7 on your side's" michael finney for help. >> susan cole loves her minicooper. she even customized it to show off her british pride. the vanity plate on her car fit the british slang. >> wee jam jar is slang for small car. >> susan received this delinquency notice from the citation processing center for an unpaid parking ticket for that very same car she had already sold. >> i sold it june 23, and i got citations -- two citations sometime the end of july that happened july 7. >> she had this release of liability which clearly showed the car had already been sold when the ticket was received. >> the citation company didn't seem to accept it because they sent me another citation with

information about having problems with renewing my license and possibly impounding the car. >> reporter: and all she said she received four notices of delinquency. the original $45 fine had doubled to $90. >> they just kept sending me a new citation. >> reporter: that's when she called "7 on your side" and we reached out to the dmv. the dmv contacted the stanford department of public safety and the citation was cleared. we contacted the citation processing center in newport beach but it didn't get back to us. we also asked stanford about whether it had any checks and balances on the processing center and how the center is had. the university declined to answer. susan says no matter what happened, she was not going to give up the fight. >> this is not my citation. i didn't park there. >> if we hear back from the citation processing center, we'll update this story. i'm michaelfinney, "7 on your side." donald trump now has two

suspended this morning until further notice after apparently retweeting anti-trump posts. one retweet, which has since been taken down from the page, compares photos from president trump's inauguration to former president obama's in 2009. nearly 2 million people attended obama's while officials estimated 700,000 to 900,000 would attend mr. trump's. officials are investigating if the account was hacked or if the retweets were intentional. a person of interest in the shooting of a man at a protest at the university of washington in seattle last night has turned himself in. officers are questioning that person about the incident. the 32-year-old victim is in critical condition this morning. people gathered to protest against far right commenter milo yooens when it happened. seattle police are increasing staff today for today's women's march. up to 250 thourks participants in washington.

peninsula congresswoman jackie spear will be taking part. here she was donning the pink knit hat that many participants will be wearing. similar marches will be taking place in san francisco, oakland, and more than 600 cities worldwide. a rally begins in d.c. at 7:00 a.m. our time with a march starting at 10:15. the white house has a new version of its website, including, we the people petitions. the first petition calls for president trump to release his tax returns. there are already more than 111,000 signatures. it needed 100,000 by february 17 to receive a white house review. this morning, former president obama and first lady michelle obama taking -- waking up in palm springs as private citizens. yesterday, their vacation was delayed because the weather was so lousy, the president diverted to march air reserve base in riverside. the obamas plan to spend a week in palm springs. this is an image of former

were returning to budapest from france when the crash happened. 39 people survived. 26 of them were injured. some seriously. one person has life threatening conditions. it is unclear what caused the bus to crash. federal prosecutors have filed formal charges against mexican drug kingpin joej. authorities brought the convicted leader to a brooklyn courthouse yesterday a day after his surprise extradition. guzman pleaded not guilty to charges yesterday in the sweeping 17-count indictment. the charges include corruption, murder conspiracy, drug importation, and money laundering. >> the allegations and the indictment make clear that over the course of decades, guzman's destructive and murderous rise as an international narcotics trafficker is akin to that of a small, cancerous tumor that metastasized and grew into a full blown scourge. >> u.s. officials say they

didn't learn until thursday that mexico was extraditing guzman but they say they were prepared for it. prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty as a condition of that extradition. a superior court judge has barred the operator of lefty o'o'douls in san francisco. yesterday, the battle over who exactly owns the name of lefty's also continued in the courtroom. a trademark infringement lawsuit was filed against the landlord by the operator, contending he owned the name lefty doolz but the landlord says he owns the name. it was also moving day. from the moment the obamas walked out the door yesterday, a team began readying the white house for its new residents. and here's a live look from the golden gate bridge. it's wet out there. another storm moving in

sky7 captured this fallen tree in the pacific heights neighborhood. the tree was found uprooted on the ground this morning, casualty of yesterday's winds. actually, that should have been yesterday morning. a rare sight in out san francisco. the fire department tweeted these photos of hail accumulating along southcliff avenue yesterday morning. what you see are hail and water mixing together to form these ice blocks. fire department was called in to clear some of the flooding that happened when the ice blocks some storm drains there. skiers and snow boarders are enjoying fresh powder up in the sierra this weekend. heavy snow continues to fall in lake tahoe. memorial ski resort said it's seen nearly more than 4 feet of snow in just the last four days. incredible. the sierra expecting at least 2 more feet during this weekend's storm. chains are required on interstate 80 to the nevada state line and on route 50 from

fairfield and on your way to the sierra nevada it changes to snow. so here's the heavier rain down around 280, around belmont and redwood city and across over into union city and scattered showers result from boulder creek it is breezy, winds up to 25 miles an hour. and of course chain controls and a winter storm warning as things are just really getting going here with mid and upper 20s in the mountains, 2 to 4 feet. this is above 4,000 feet for the west slopes, right on through monday and if we add up the totals, this is crazy, but you know the high elevation base around kirkwood, they're talking 63 inches. it is unbelievable how much more snow is coming. so right now, we're in the 40s with 49 san mateo, 42 in los gatos. we have more rain this morning until we get a bit of a lull throughout the afternoon. high surf warning in effect until 3:00 tomorrow with some huge, huge waves here. 22 to 25 feet right now so very dangerous and we are looking at

a very high likelihood overnight tonight and tomorrow for flooding and ponding for streams and creeks, some of the urban areas, the roadways, power outages, river flooding and some of those rock slides. we have a pretty good storm headed our way tonight so flash flood watch in effect right on through tomorrow evening. we're going to see once again rapid rises, the san anselmo creek, and also down around hollister where they've had big problems with that levee break. a high wind watch in effect for the entire bay area with wind gusts to 40 to 50 miles an hour but along the coast, upper elevations, we're talking in excess of 50 miles an hour. so, tonight, it is a 2 on our storm impact scale and we're looking at not only the rain but the wind accompanying the system and then behind it, much more unstable air and you know what that means, some thunderstorms tonight into sunday so once again, we have that the other night and it looks like this strong storm is following suit. so as we go through the rest of the afternoon, a bit of a lull,

then the strat form light rain comes into play by the evening hours. this is 7:00 tonight and then boom, look what happens. 11:00, then the fron begins to push on through, but with it, check out the winds. this is why we have the wind advisory, 40 to 50 miles an hour. this is the middle of the night. the cold front just pushing through. there it is with the yellow. and then behind it, the winds really dial back. so, 1:00 in the morning, you're sleeping, you could be awakened with the thunderstorms and then by 4:00 or 5:00, we have a bit of a break, the front passes through and then more rain headed our way behind the front and this is when we could see those thunderstorms so in terms of amounts, yes, upwards of 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches likely and we're looking at temperatures today with throws scattered showers, mid and upper 50s so download our app. you'll be well equipped with all the advisories. the squult 7 day forecast, the rain picks up tonight through the overnight hours with the wind and then we'll be looking
