blocked. not sure how long. sounds like it was a major one and several vehicles got flat tires before they put the closure in place. a soggy bay bridge. the metering lights on 5:30 this morning. slow drive approaching the bridge. once you make it on the bridge, looking okay. we'll look at drive times in less than ten. >> thanks, alexis. searchers will be out at alameda creek where officers believe a young woman died when she lost control of her car and drove into the creek. >> she and her car are still out there near niles canyon and palomares road. elissa harrington is live near the scene for us. >> such a sad story. the driver, an 18-year-old woman from tracy, has been missing since saturday morning. divers and search teams have not opinion automobile been able to get into the water because it's been too dangerous. this is what the alameda creek looks like now, more like a river, swollen and deep with rapids. rescuers are concerned about

branchers or other debris in the water that could be dangerous for dive teams. the alameda county sheriff's department said the driver crossed the center line and clipped another car. then she slid off the road and into the creek. people who live in the area say the road gets slippery. >> we knew it had to have been pretty serious, yeah. because we seen everybody, the rescue people, looking along the river there. like they were looking for something. >> the water is cold. so hypothermia. it is a sad situation. >> pictures taken by our media partners, the bay area newsgroup, show searchers along the muddy banks. the driver is still being called missing this morning because sheriff's deputies have not been able to find her or the car. they're still hoping this is a rescue mission. alameda county sheriff's

officials also used drone and helicopters to search from above but found no sign of the vehicle or the driver. niles canyon road is open now but it will close at 10:00 a.m. once the search continues. reporting live in alameda, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. >> terrible story. thank you. there is relief this morning if you drive highway 37 through marin county. part of it has been reopened to traffic. this though, what it looked like yesterday afternoon. you can see several feet of water forcing it to be closed between 101 and lakeville road over the weekend. drivers certainly ran into trouble. basically cut off people to most of marin county there. chp reopened the stretch between lakeville and atherton in novato last night after the water receded a bit. chp will have extra officers out there to help with the morning commute. drivers across the north bay face tough driving yesterday. 101 was flooded in marin city. in sonoma county, a mud slide

and downed trees caused problems for the forestville residents. highway 12 and 121 in shellville looked like a lake because of runoff from sonoma creek. the area is closed to traffic. some people used the breaks between the rain to check out the surf on the pacific pier. you can see why. it was under a high surf advisory. prompting a warning from residents. >> advisory for having a camera too close to big waves. might crash on to it. waves will crash over the wall. you know that. i'm like, i wouldn't have my camera here. >> she's looking out for us. we appreciate that. the high surf advisory was lifted. waves though still high. up to 18 feet at times. take a look at what powerful waves did to a local landmark in santa cruz county this weekend. this is known as the cement ship at the end of the pier at sea cliff state beach. waves ripped the state your n p 100-year-old ship. the ship's name is the s.s. palo

we're learning more about president donald trump's plans for his first full week in office. he will withdraw the u.s. from the transpacific partnership trade deal according to cnn this morning. it is a promise mr. trump made on the campaign trail as part of his policy of creating fair trade deals for the american worker. another campaign promise was about his taxes, of course. the president said he will release his tax report after an audit. a top aide is saying, no, he won't. >> the white house response is he is not going to release the tax reports. people voted for him, didn't care. most americans are very focused on what their tax returns will look like while president trump is in office, not what his look like. >> yesterday, the president spoke over the phone with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu and invited him to washington early next month. russia's alleged interference in the presidential

>> announcer: abc 7 mornings. all news. >> all morning. new details about a deadly shooting and robbery in a san antonio mall. this is a suspect being walked to a police car. this man and another suspect are awe accused of robbing a jewelry store and killing a good samaritan who came to help. second suspect was wounded by a bystander who was licensed to carry a concealed handgun. two other people suffered non-shooting injuries in the incident. so creepy. a ohio divorce lawyer hypnotizing his female clients and sexually assaulting them. he is serving 12 years in prison and facing six civil lawsuits. he was caught in this 2014 sting operation. a woman alerted authorities after noticing her clothes would be dishevelled after appointments. no word yet on when the civil trials will start. he has since been disbarred.

big changes could be coming to san francisco civil center. according to the examiner, the goal is to bring more traffic to the area. possible ideas floating around include an outdoor concert hall, a foodie shot spot. also reopening the underground brooks hall. the ideas may help deter drug dealers and homeless people in the area. interested contractors and bidders have until february 10th to submit any ideas. you're either going to find this really cool or kind of weird. check out the new toy that firefighters in dubai now have at their disposal. it is the dolphin. as you see, it is a jet pack that allows firefighters easier access to shorelines and overpass rescues. this shows how firefighters seem to come out of nowhere with their hoses blasting. felt like someone was blasting us with hoses over the weekend. at least it'll turn off a little today. >> the atmospheric river will be going away. right now, we're left with

watch throughout the evening hours. the downpours could be coming down heavy at times. as we go to live doppler 7, around highway 1, mark west springs, you have a flood warning throughout the rest of the morning. do be careful there. the creeks are overflowing their banks there. marin, san rafael, highway 101 to the east bay. we've been watching 580 to 680, through the north through concord and walnut creek. more cells offshore near half-moon bay. >> we know there has been so much rain lately, the roads are in bad shape. we have potholes in a couple areas that are slowing you down. sig alert for southbound 13 before broadway terrace. we had red a short time ago from highway 24. looks like that has improved. the left lane is closed while they make repairs. also hearing about a three foot wide pothole around altamont pass. some folks can see the rebar in the road. you don't want to hit that one. highway 84 between vinyard and

stanley, also closed. haven't gotten official word but i'm guessing it is due to a slide. we'll look at drive times next. if you take highway 37 to get to 101, heads up for you. you could be in for a big head ache this week. stormy weather closed the stretch of highway again. it might not reopen for days. abc 7 news reporter amy hol hollyfield is live in novato. good morning, amy. >> good morning, matt. some good news. the chp was able to open a detour overnight. you can nowatherton avenue but there is a backup on highway 37 using this. some of the water has been cleared, but you're still going to want the to give yourself extra time. you can now get to marin county using highway 37. they've used the closure. used to be at lakeville road. now it is at atherton avenue. the section between 101 and atherton avenue is underwater. it is so saturated around here.

the rain hitting the soil may as well be hitting concrete. there is nowhere for it to go. residents tell us they're trying to make the best of it. >> it is amazing. >> yeah. >> we need it. maybe it is inconvenient for a couple of days, but it's okay. overall, i think it is a good thing. >> cal trans tried to pump the water out but it was spilling back in from the swollen novato creek. the chp wanted to explain why they're not able to pump the water out like they have before when this area has flooded. it is a losing battle right now. the chp is estimating that this closure could last for a while, few days. it will last into the week. they say they will continue to monitor it. reporting live from novato, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. could take two days to remove a tree that crushed six vehicles in lafayette. a tree missed crashing into an italian restaurant on lafayette

circle. some of the damaged cars belonged to people there for a martinez woman's birthday party. she described what she heard. >> sounded like thunder. but it was -- >> thank god nobody got hurt. >> -- lightning, an earthquake. >> you can see and hear how close the tree came to the window of the dining room. no one was hurt. you can see the downed tree. kept a crew and power tools busy in berkeley. the tree fell at the pine avenue and webster street intersection yesterday morning. it did block a street. fortunately, no one was hurt. let's take you to the southbound lanes of great highway and san francisco which are closed because of flooding. signs are posted, which say it is closed all the way from lincoln way to skyline boulevard. drivers should find an alternative route if they'll be heading south. no word on when the lanes will reopen. bridgeway is now reopened

after a mudslide shut down southbound lanes between nevada and spring streets. debris fell on the road, forcing the closure. crews worked to clean up the mess so you can go through but you'll need to slow down. there are barriers around the slide as a precaution. it is only down to one lane between nevada and spring streets. in the south bay, the well traveled old santa cruz highway is off limits for now. a piece of the hillside gave way and brought down mud and trees near edwards road. you can see the debris was enough to block both of the lanes there. the santa cruz public works department lists 28 roads as closed throughout their county. not far from there, the lexington reservoir was nearly overflowing from all of the water. officials released some water to reduce the chance of flooding downstream. people stopped by throughout the day to marvel at the amount of water going over the spillway. >> just to see the power of mother nature. brother-in-law came earlier and he said it was incredible, the force of water is amazing to

happening the sentence for pg&e. according to our media partner the mercury news, the sentence could include having a court appointed monitor oversee the gas system. in august, a federal jury found the utility guilty on six felony criminal violations of u.s. pipeline safety rules. the 2010 blast killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. today's sentencing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in san francisco. the widow of the orlando nightclub shooter will be back in federal court in oakland today. she is seeking approval for counsel. she pleaded not guilty to terrorism charges last week. prosecutors say she helped husband plot last june's attack. a swat team killed martin. she was arrested in her mother's home last monday. her bail hearing is set for next week. a legal watchdog group is

filing a federal lawsuit against president donald trump today. citizens for responsibility and ethics in washington claim the president is violating the constitution by allowing him hotels and businesses to accept payments from foreign governments. the group says a provision in the constitution prohibits him from receiving money from diplomats or staying at his hotels or leasing his buildings. the language in the claus is disputed by some legal scholars. white house says the president has no conflicts. happening today, bill scott will be sworn in as san francisco's new police chief. the 52-year-old was a deputy chief of the los angeles police department. he was appointed last month by mayor lee. he'd only the third outside hire for chief in the department's 167-year history. 167-year history. one of implementing changes by the department of justice. one of the hardest things he say is earning officers' trust.

becerra is expected to clear this hurdle. he is the highest ranking liberal in congress and expected to defend policies against president donald trump. bart is trying the figure out how a man wound up on its tracks in downtown san franci o francisco. firefighters say the man was conscious when they reached him yesterday afternoon. he rolled into a gap in the track underneath the platform and that saved him from being hit by oncoming trains. paramedics took him to the hospital. bart police don't expect foul play. there was a 20 minute delay in service while firefighters pulled him to safety. united airlines flights are on the move after stuck on the ground for 3 1/2 hours because of a computer glitch. abc 7 news was at the sfo where united passengers waited for flights to depart. the carrier issued a ground stop 2:30 our time yesterday afternoon. stop wasn't lifted until 6:00 p.m. united says the problem affected its ability to get critical information to pilots. the airline said it wouldw waive

creek. >> both she and her car are still out there. abc 7 news reporter elissa harrington is live near the scene for us. elissa? >> natasha, this 18-year-old woman from tracy has been missing in alameda creek since saturday morning. sheriff's officials believe she's likely still in her car that crashed and sank. it happened near along niles canyon road near sanol. officials say the driver crossed the center line, clipped another car and slid into the water. emergency crews searched by foot and air but couldn't enter the creek because of the treacherous conditions. >> the area, with the weather, all the rain we've been getting, the water is flowing very fast. it is not safe to put divers in the water right now. >> pictures taken by our media partners, the bay area newsgroup, show searchers along the muddy banks. the creek looks more like a river with rapids and filled with debris. the water is so deep, the car is

completely submerged. you can see niles canyon road is back open this morning. it will close starting at 10:00 a.m. to continue the search. reporting live in alameda county, elissa harrington, abc 7 news. >> sad story. thank goodness for the bravery and quick thinking of one police officer. you're looking at his body camera here. the officer smashing the window of a car with his baton, trying to get a woman out from inside. it is burning at the time. the woman's name is kim novak. this all started on friday. she just went out for some ice cream. she hit a puddle of slush. then her car stalled and caught fire. none of the doors would unlock. she quickly called 911. >> i honestly believed that i may not make it out of there. i thought if was going to die there. panic was definitely setting in. i was doing everything i had within my power. i tried all the doors and tried to open them myself. kicking as hard as i possibly

could. >> her car was completely destroyed but she wasn't hurt. authorities still don't know exactly what caused the fire. look at this. they reunited the following day. he actually brought her the ice cream that she initially set out for on friday. sunnydale based yahoo! is under investigation for whether massive data breaches should have been disclosed sooner. the scc is looking into two hacks from 2013 and 2014. 2013, the private information of more than 1 billion yahoo! users was compromised. in 2014, at least 500 million users were hacked. both breaches were disclosed last year. yahoo! has yet to explai took so long to disclose the breaches publicly. foxconn may partner with apple to build a display panel manufacturing factory in the u.s. it could create up to 50,000 jobs. spokesperson for foxconn says the u.s. is the world's second

largest tv market but as no tv display facilities. foxconn and apple are well-acquainted, as foxconn makes most of the iphones in the chinese facilities. san jose is considering a curfew for city council meetings. members want a midnight curfew. the goal is to make times feasible for those who want to weigh in or hear issues but have to get up for work the next day. meetings capped at midnight will be postponed until the next day. and the council wants to move the start time to 6:00 p.m. instead of 7:00. freshly turned out senator leno could be running for mayor in 2019. the "san francisco chronicle" reports he hired mayor lee's political team to help with his exploratory bid to be the city's first openly gay mayor. he's not officially declared candy but he kan candidacy but is, quote, seriously considering doing so.

sports stars are going beyond touchdowns and threes to help a fan diagnosed with cancer. >> aiden was diagnosed with a rare cancer last year. he previously attended a football camp hosted by derek carr. the raiders quarterback heard about the diagnosis and sent aiden a personalized message to encourage him to stay strong. then he met steph curry last month during a make a wish trip. he went to a game at oracle where curry wore a special bracelet on his risk. >> wearing a fighting for aiden bracelet, i think it is pretty cool, that he does that. >> it is overwhelming. i mean, it's just -- it brings a lot of joy to me because to see someone doing that for my son, taking the time out of their day to do that, i think it is incredible. >> aidan's mom says the event was priceless for her son. >> incredible. i love that. >> makes it easy to root for those guys. >> absolutely. let's get to lisa argen. another day of rain, lisa. come on. >> it is beginning to increase,
