but he kept pushing an issue that many congressional republicans want to go away, the false claim that millions voted illegally in the election. >> we are going to protect the integrity of the ballot box, and we are going to defend the votes of the american citizen. so important. >> reporter: but house speaker paul ryan has been clear saying he has seen no evidence of massive voter fraud. in philadelphia, some congressional republicans say there are more important things to worry about. >> is voter fraud, should it be on the list of things he was talking about today? >> is that on the top ten of priorities for me? the answer is no. you know, it's up to the administration to figure out if it's the top ten for the american people. >> republicans also not interested in revisiting the election. or the size of the crowds at the president's inauguration. something president trump has talked about again and again including cia. >> you took some heat after your visit to the cia in front of that hallowed wall 117 stars of those lost at the cia. you talked about other things but you also talked about crowd size at the inauguration, about the size of your rallies, about covers on "time" magazine. and i just want to ask you, when does all of that matter just a little less? when do you let it roll off your

>> reporter: environmentalists say an oil spill on a magellan pipeline demonstrates the risks involved. >> pipelines spill at least once a day destroying farms and ranches and polluting water supplies. pipelines are a tremendous risk not only to the farms and ranches but also to the climate. and so here in the heartland, we are going to be fighting keystone xl with everything we have. >> reporter: nearly 140,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into an agricultural field in iowa. authorities say it does not pose major environmental impact buds snow and wind are creating problems for clean-up crews. >> the biggest threat right now is our weather. and right now with closing down the road. >> reporter: days earlier another leak in saskatchewan, canada spilled 52,000 gallons of oil. saskatchewan was also the site of a major spill seven months ago. the canadian prime minister says he supports trump's pipeline project because of the jobs he believes it will bring to canada. >> in both the conversations i've had with president trump now, keystone xl came up as a

topic and i reiterated my support for the project. >> reporter: and you know there's going to be a fight on this one, kendis and erielle. the standing rock sioux tribe has longs been opposed to this project and they say that there is currently an environmental study under way with public comment open until february 20th. they argue by federal law, that process has to be allowed to continue. >> that fallout continues. lana zak, an thank you. the engineer involved in a deadly train crash in philadelphia is suing amtrak. brandon bostian alleges the railroad ignored reports that people were throwing objects at the train. bosnian says that he was disoriented or unconscious after something hit his train before the 2015 crash that killed eight people. federal investigators determined the train was not hit. they say bosnian was distracted by reports of another train being hit. the engineer in another deadly train crash near philadelphia tested positive for

the knife struck the agent's handheld radio instead which was attached to his body armor. the suspect was eventually taken into custody. authorities say the incident is just the latest in a series of attacks against border patrol agents in that area. it's official. most of california is now drought free. thanks to the powerful storms that have swamped the state in recent weeks according to u.s. drought monitor, not a single part of california is now in the exceptional or worse category. however, state water officials say they'll continue to impose restrictions because when groundwater is depleted it takes a very long time to replenish. investigators in new hampshire believe they may have solved a series of gruesome cold case murders. detectives now say a drifter known as robert evans is likely responsible for the death of his then girlfriend denise beaudin who went missing in 1981. they're also linking him to the murders of another woman and three children whose bodies were founded in metal drums. they say his use of multiple aliases made him especially difficult to track.

>> he fled the area to avoid apprehension by the police. he used other names to avoid apprehension and for about a 12-year period, he went missing. >> authorities were finally able to track him down through a series of dna tests and they say he could be linked to even more unsolved murders. but he won't ever stand trial. evans died in 2010 in a california prison serving time for the killing and dismembering of another woman. now to south america, specifically chile where one official calls the country's wildfires a nightmare without end. take a look at the fast-moving flames pushed by strong winds. they've completely destroyed one town burning about a thousand homes. at least ten people have been killed in the fires, some of which -- look at those scenes -- some of which have been burning several months. the u.s. has sent a 747 supertanker to chile to help those folks in battling the

off. now there's talk of slapping mexico with a new tax. here's abc's jonathan karl. >> reporter: since day one of his campaign, trump's relationship with mexico has been rocky. >> who's going to pay for the wall? 100%. >> reporter: still he traveled there to meet with pena nieto last year. we asked about the wall. the wall, is it a nonstarter? is there any chance mexico pays for the wall? >> we did discuss the wall. we didn't discuss payment of the wall. that will be for a later date. this was a very preliminary meeting. >> reporter: since then mexico's president has been consistent, there's no way mexico will pay. the two leaders were scheduled to meet next week at the white house. but after mexican officials hinted they might pull out, trump tweeted if mexico is unwilling to pay for badly needed wall, it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting. three hours late pena nieto tweeted back he had informed the white house he would not be attending the meeting. later trump insisted the cancellation was a mutual

decision. >> the president of mexico and myself have agreed to cancel our planned meeting schedule for next week. unless mexico is going to treat the united states fairly, with respect, such a meeting would be fruitless and i want to go a different route. >> reporter: on thursday, the white house floated one possible way to get mexico to pay for the wall. the idea was a border tax of 20% on goods coming into the united states from mexico. although late thursday, the white house clarified that was simply one hypothetical idea. it is not something that the president has signed off on. jonathan karl, abc news, the white house. and jon, we should mention mexico's foreign minister said that that border tax would raise prices on goods which would be passed along to the american consumer and republican senator lindsey graham also slammed the idea in what was the tweet of the day. he seemed to mimic the president's speaking style

writing, "any policy proposal which drives up the cost of corona, tequila or margaritas is a bad idea. mucho sad." i agree. according to "the washington post," president trump called the acting director of the national park service on the day after his inauguration. the important issue, he was asking for more photographs of the crowds on the national mall. the "post" reports that the president wanted those extra pictures to prove the news media lied underestimating the number of people attending his swearing in. a scare in the skies for passengers as a smoky engine forced a united airlines flight to make an emergency landing. the flight headed from washington to nashville landed safely. cress immediately doused the smoldering engine with both foam and water. at least 75 passengers were evacuated from the plane and no injuries were reported. the faa is now investigating. a rooftop fire forced hundreds of guests from their hotel in tampa. wits ins say the flames were shooting off the top of the

building as you can see there. firefighters had to walk up 27 flights of stairs to put out the flames. after nearly an hour, the fire was out and guests returned to their rooms. no injuries reported there. a hotel in peru made out a lot worse than that. whoa. it collapsed right into a river that had swollen because of recent storms. the building's foundation was eroded by the rushing water. luckily everyone inside had evacuated before the collapse. no one was injured but plenty of waterbeds there in that hotel. harvard university has been handing out its hasty pudding award every year since 1951 to honor those have made lasting contributions to the world of entertainment. >> yes, and the award for woman of the year goes to oscar-winning actress octavia spencer. she was paraded through the streets of cambridge. look at her. later during a roast, spencer was serving up a little mock poop. she used that moment to send a message to white house advisor kellyanne conway. >> kellyanne, eat my
