it's saturday, january 28th. a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi there, cornell. good morning to you. with the clear sky, the light winds. and a little bit of fog out there. this morning. temperatures around the bay are in the 30s. and some 40s. here's a live look from the east bay hills camera, where you can see a little bit of haze out there and high clouds. up around the bay we're looking at more clear conditions from the sierra nevada. temperatures there started out around zero, going for a high in the upper 30s. and we're looking at a lot of sunshine today north of the golden gate bridge, high clouds. we'll look for numbers later on this afternoon near 60 degrees. that's near average. we'll talk about above-average temperatures and a return to some rain coming up a little bit later. >> lisa, thank you. happening now, officials have closed off niles canyon road in alameda county as they

pick up the search for a missing woman. jadea jenkins tracy has not been seen since saturday since her car crashed into the alameda creek. the 18-year-old's car was pulled from the creek on tuesday. she may have been been able to get out of the car. search teams will comb the banks of alameda creek to find any signs of jenkins. niles canyon road closure is between fremont and sanole. out of the south bay this morning, san jose police investigating a car crash that left three people injured. it happened just before 2:00 this morning on south 2nd street at east humbolt. bystanders tell firefighters the car was traveling at least 100 miles per hour. no word yet on the condition of the three patients. investigators are confident one of the people arrested in the south bay is the criminal who has been evading them since thursday morning. one of the suspects robbed the bank of america leading to the

massive manhunt. >> reporter: san jose police swarmed the area of mission and 7th streets after spotting a stolen car linked to a bank robbery. a silver chevy taken from a home in the santa cruz mountains that happens to be an unmarked law enforcement vehicle. they followed the car to an apartment complex. michael binel lives there. he said he heard a loud noise, came outside and found police. >> they had their weapons drawn at me and told me to put my hands up. >> reporter: police told him to evacuate the area. people in nearby homes had to shelter in place. police say there were three people in the silver car. they took two into custody without incident but the third man ran. >> i can't overstate the danger that he posed to the people that live in that complex. >> reporter: the suspect made his way from the apartment property to a neighboring construction site. >> they td us to evacuate everybody on site. police were on site with guns

ready to shoot. >> reporter: an officer deployed a taser at one point and the man was eventually taken into custody. authorities didn't know for sure if the men were involved in thursday's bank robbery in scots valley, but they knew they had to be cautious. >> they were occupants of a stolen vehicle, and when we challenged them and attempted to arrest him, he fled. when we attempted to take him into custody, had eresisted. >> reporter: the men are being questioned separately as the investigation into the bank robbery continues. in san jose, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. san jose police credit customers and employees for taking down an attempted robbery suspect. police say a man tried to rob the taco bell last night. customers and workers jumped in to stop the suspect. officers say he was armed and it's lucky nobody got hurt. >> definitely one of those situations with a happy ending. it could have gone either way. in this instance it worked out very well. >> that's for sure. the suspect is in custody. and is being treated for minor

injuries. happening today, the family of a 21-year-old man shot and killed about i police will hold a vigil and march today. angel ramos was killed monday when police responded to reports of people fighting with weapons. officers found ramos holding a knife, attacking a 16-year-old union city boy who was on his back. the officer shot ramos pause of the threat he posed to the 16-year-old. the vigil is scheduled for noon today at the vallejo police department on amador street. alameda county sheriff's officials looking for this man. they hope he has information on the murder of 59-year-old andrea st. john. she was dead in her garage in a house that had been set on fire the night of december 13th. an autopsy revealed she was murdered before the fire. neighbors say they haven't been able to rest easy since the incident. >> we're sitting here watching tv and she was being murdered, set on fire.

nobody knew anything. this poor lady. >> i hope they catch him. and the family gets some kind of resolve from this. >> police don't know yet why st. john was killed, whether she was targeted for some reason or perhaps interrupted a burglar or confronted an intruder inside her home. a swift reaction to president trump's sweeping executive order to ban refugees, plus people from seven muslim countries. an immediate suspension of immigration in countries with ties from terror, and all refugees for 120 days. however, the order places a priority on allowing christian refugees into the country. abc 7 news reporter sergio can tana has the falout from this. >> reporter: the executive order signed by president donald trump fulfills one of the promises he made on the campaign trail. >> we only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people. >> reporter: the order bans entry of most people traveling to the united states with

passports from seven countries. iran, iraq, syria, sudan, libya, yemen and somalia. the presidential order met with swift reaction from the council on islamic relations. >> if someone is a noncitizen in the united states and is from one of the seven countries that the trump administration is targeting, we suggest they consult with an attorney before any international travel. >> according to cnn google has sent out an advisory to employees from the seven countries, to cancel any travel out of the u.s. this is a man with the syrian-american council and said his friend is already affected by this order. >> he's of syrian descent and visiting his family in turkey right now. he's worried he won't be able to get back into the united states. >> reporter: on national holocaust remembrance day, a special reference in one of the

tweets. during the holocaust, we failed to let refugees like anne frank into our country. we can't let this history repeat itself. there is already a legal challenge in the works. the council on american islamic relations is planning a news conference monday to announce a lawsuit against this executive order. abc 7 news. in response to president trump's executive order on immigration, the archbishop of san francisco said the church will help those who are undocumented. the church will help immigrants, quote, know their rights. they also report the archbishop is troubled by some of the president's actions on immigration. a bay area businessman is not taking any chance the trump administration could delete years of hard work by the epa. former hedge fund manager tom desire takes steps to preserve the epa's climate change findings.

female. ann marie filed suit in december when she found her child was receiving gender medical treatment. she tried to intervene but was legally blocked. it names minnesota public health, and school boards which she says kept the records from her. here is the mom and her attorney. >> the u.s. constitution says parental rights are fundamental rights that can't be terminated without due process. >> i am his mother. he is and always will be welcome in our home. >> the 17-year-old left home two years ago and worked with a legal aid group on emancipation statement. the teen's attorney says she is unlikely to win the case based on the emancipation issue. government of france is taking a stand against soda. it's now illegal for restaurants, hotels and catering facilities to allow customers to refill their sodas for free. it is part of a sweeping public health law passed a year ago to

team. they have approximately, from what we understand from them, they've brought out about 100 volunteers as well. so it is a massive effort for us to get this recovery taken care of. and we're hoping to do that today. what the public should know is that the niles canyon area will be closed to through traffic, between 7:00 a.m., and initially i believe earlier, 6:00 p.m., but it looks like it will be closer to 4:00 p.m. alternate routes will be taking 680 to 880 or 580 to 880. that stretch of road will be closed from the city of sonole to fremont boulevard. our search efforts will take place from the crash site in niles canyon to mission pboulevard. >> i've seen drones, and dogs out here. what are you guys doing differently than you have done earlier this week? >> well, we're trying to make it

more intensive. we've been using drones from the beginning. we will continue our efforts, and using drones, we have more canines out here. we have, you know, people on the ground. so it will be, you know, a huge search, canine search, the drone search. we'll be doing everything possible to, you know, to get some answers to the family. they're waiting. they've been patient. they've been absolutely cooperative with us. they've done everything we've asked them to do. and we are trying to go above and beyond to bring jada home. >> today you will continue to -- [ inaudible ]? >> i'm not prepared right now to talk about what will happen tomorrow. because right now we just need to concentrate on our efforts today. and see what they yield. okay? >> that is alameda county sheriff's deputy taya modess.

blastoff. arian space completed its first launch of the new year. the satellite sent into orbit yesterday. it will be used for telecommunications in spain, portug portugal. it is the first to be built under the use of the small geoplatform to provide better signal quality and multimedia services. new details this morning on golden gate ferry's plan to expand service. it's not happening for now. yesterday the system's board was supposed to approve an agreement to take over the blue and gold fleet between tiber on and san francisco. that vote didn't happen because the board learned there was pending litigation. they'll continue to provide service between tiber ron and san francisco for the foreseeable future. pier 70 will be transformed

this picture from the closure at redwood gulch road to the santa cruz county line. the road is expected to reopen at 11:00 this morning. a berkley community came together to remember a couple found dead in their home. we still do not know what killed them. a memorial was held for valerie and roger moreash. the couple and their two cats were found dead monday not far from the campus. autopsies have been completed but the cause of death has not yet been released. the mystery of a rancid odor may be solved this morning. katie tells us about the facility county officials are now citing. >> it's like garbage and decaying bodies. >> it's definitely a more organic rancid smell than your sulfuric refinery smells. >> reporter: richmond as a pungent and perplexing problem. >> we have people going out and

sniffing the air at times of the day and night to pinpoint the issue. >> reporter: turns out the mysterious odor traces back to this facility where they process compost. it's led county health officials to issue a cease and desist order. >> we feel like they are not operating the facility correctly at this time. and we want them to cease bringing in new material. there's still a lot of material on site. >> reporter: they process garbage, repsyching and green waste. they discovered large compost piles that weren't maintained properly. >> it actually started becoming raps identification. >> i'm happy to see public agencies are taking things under control. >> reporter: complaints go beyond the 400 filed for odor. the county knows of seven fires for the facility. >> if you don't turn these piles, the opposite of turning rancid, they can actually start -- automatically catching fire. >> reporter: republic representative told city council

members said it is unfortunate and unnecessary, according to the contra costa "times." our requests for comment have not been returned. they plan to meet with republic next week. a man recovering this morning after had efell several dozen feet from an apartment in pacifica. we see he was pulled to safety late last night. responders say the man got through a fence and fell down the cliff. he appeared alert when they hoisted him up. demolition work will begin monday in the apartment house near where the man fell sitting atop an eroding cliff. this is a look from sky 7. pacifica officials decided last year that nobody could live in the building. crews have already knocked down two other buildings on esplanade avenue. lunar new year celebrations under way around the world. this is video from taiwan overnight as thousands of people

officials moving forward with plans to close a sinkhole that closed a road for more than a week now. they're looking over bids from contractors and crews have been keeping the hole on minor road stable since that cave-in. recent storms prevent them from doing more, but with the break in the weather, repairs can finally begin. the city says those living in the area are coping with detours, and a lot of traffic. >> the neighbors have been absolutely phenomenal. actually, this weekend, a neighbor right here adjacent to the sinkhole brought us some cookies and just been phenomenal. it's nice to have a nice relationship with people that you're putting out. >> that sinkhole is on a bridge that's 98 years old. if the weather allows, they could have a target date for reopening minor road by the end of the week. a few dry days to get that done, huh? >> a little-a week before we see the rain return, the stretch of our long, dry trend, which i think we're enjoying. high clouds out there. you can see the breeze from

good morning, everybody. if you're thinking today might be a good day for a hike in the east hills, you might be right. pretty much anywhere in the bay area. a warming trend under way as we speak. rain is out there, too. but don't fret. got some beautiful days ahead in the meantime. lisa's going to have your forecast in a bit. city of oakland just welcomed 24 new police officers on the job. oakland police nad the announcement in a tweet friday morning. the department said it's the 175th recruit class. they will investigate their hiring and training practices, that after several young officers who had graduated from the academy were arrested. some lucky california high school students are traveling to kenya to bring students there solar energy. at the state capital friday, the high school students were celebrated for winning a

statewide contest by pg&e. they helped construct solar suitcases that can charge computers, phones or power lights to a small room. the students will go to areas that don't have reliable power. >> i feel very honored and very privileged that i'm able to go to this program, and be able to help the kenyan students. and actually meet them in person. it's going to be a life-changing experience. >> awesome job. congrats to them. the students leave in early february and will stay for about a week, all paid for by the power company. they'll deliver 100 solar suitcases to orphanages, schools and medical clinics. good morning. you may have noticed high clouds out there in the sky. we'll thin those out as high pressure continues to be the dominant weather feature. the clouds going up and over a ridge. that ridge will be protecting us for the next several days.

but we'll go up to the mid to upper 60s monday, tuesday, and then the numbers will continue to drop off as the rain arrives. livermore, a little cooler for late january. upper 50s. we're about there. the warming trend continues through early next week. we'll bring in the storm impact scale for wednesday. wednesday's system is a weak one. it ranks 1 on our storm impact scale. the winds will kick up in advance of it and we'll see the light rain advance through the north bay wednesday afternoon. then by the evening hours, it's into the rest of the bay area. thursday really looks to be the wettest day, with rain for everybody. and then it does end by friday. this system could bring anywhere from an inch and a third to the north bay community. so it will be a typical system for late january. and today, probably everybody anticipating a nice afternoon. the sunshine and warmer temperatures. look for 58 in richmond today. low 60s around the bay. and in the sierra nevada.
