canadian prime minister justin trudeau called the shooting heart wrenching and said religious tolerance is a value canadians hold dear. flags have been ordered at half-staff today. the bay area's busiest airport is bracing for what could be another day of protests against the president's immigrant ban. >> if you have a flight today, there is a warning to know pabout. abc 7's amy hollyfield is live at sfo. amy? >> hi, natasha. officials yesterday were saying, you might want to get here three hours before you flight today just in case. as of right now, there are no protesters here. it is a quiet morning. but officials say they don't know what to expect today. they don't have any information that there will be protests here today. but they aren't sure. they are on alert just in case. here is what it looked like yesterday. more than 1,000 protesters descended on the international terminal to show outrage over the executive order from president trump. banning refugees and people from seven muslim majority countries

from entering the united states. the protests were large. at one point, they shut down the security checkpoint. but they were peaceful. some found it very touching. >> it is beautiful. it made me feel that we are one in the united states and good citizen. not terrorists. as mr. trump is profiling >> there were tense hours for people at sfo as they waited for loved ones who had been detained because of the executive order. but airport officials here say all of the five people who had been detained have been released. but the aclu is watching today to make sure nothing else like this happens again. they're asking that any of you who have people visiting from the seven countries listed in the executive order, and if you haven't heard from them, contact the aclu so they can look into it. protesters left here last night about 10:00. flights and the terminal all running normal. reporting live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. the department of homeland

security says there are no detainees remaining at u.s. airports this morning. however, look at how many people were stopped over the weekend. 735 people questioned at ports of entry. just 392 were permitted to get into the u.s. overseas, 348 were denied boarding at foreign airports. >> president trump taking to twitter early this morning already and he blames the delays in airports yesterday not on his order but first on delta's computer outage and then protesters and, finally, quote, the tears of senator schumer. the white house saying the ban is already having positive effect. many across america and around the world seeing it very differently. here's abc's elizabeth hur. >> good morning. white house officials maintain this is about protecting america but protesters aren't buying it. some are even taking their fight to the courts. so far, lawsuit have been filed in four states and counting. >> reporter: from los angeles to chicago, detroit and new york.

>> trump's america is not my america. >> reporter: protesters sounding off, slamming president trump's travel ban. >> the president's executive order is unconstitutional. it is discriminating against muslims. >> reporter: but in a statement, the trump administration fired back, saying this is not about religion. this is about terror and keeping our country safe. the white house, not apologizing, even though the seven countries on trump's list were not involved in a single major terror attack on u.s. soil. some are stand bing by the president. >> take care of our own first, and then take care of others. >> reporter: thanks in part from intervention to the courts, now, there is some clarification. green card holders, lawful, permanent residents from the several countries being targeted, won't be denied entry but they will likely face extra questions. >> at least 16 state attorneys general are vowing to take action, calling this un-american

and legal experts say some of these cases could end up in the supreme court. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. it was quite a weekend for the aclu. it received more than 350,000 online donations. when you add it up, $24 million. people donating since saturday morning. normally, the aclu receives $3 million to $4 million in a whole year. its membership has doubled to 1 million just since the november election. google is creating a crisis fund to help the aclu and three other organizations that help refugees. the company is putting $2 million into the fund, which can be matched with up to $2 million in donations from employees. it is google's largest crisis campaign ever. this weekend, google co-founder took part in a protest at sfo. we have a closer look at the impact of and reaction to the president's executive order on our website and news app. download it for free.

she was walking to an ice skating lesson when she vanished in 1989 and hasn't been seen or heard from since. her parents, supporters and family members held a vigil every year. her father has not given up hope. dublin police say the case is still open. change in ferry service to and from the north bay is on hold this morning. the golden gate bridge district put off a vote on friday because of a possible lawsuit. the angel island tiburon ferry company threatened to sue if the service started today as planned. it operates ferry service to angel island from near where golden gate would operate. the company is claiming there are safety issues because of the size of the ferries. the 49ers have a new general manager. the team announced that hall of fame candidate john lynch has been named the new gm. the niners and lynch agreed to a six-year deal. he won a super bowl ring with the tampa bay buccaneers in

order temporarily banning citizens from seven muslim majority countries from entering the u.s. iraq's parliament approved a reciprocity measure this morning that restricts americans from entering iraq. itit is not clear yet if it applies to all americans or just certain groups. the president's order imposed a 90-day ban on u.s. travel by citizens of iraq, syria, iran, sudan, libya, somalia and yemen. and a 120-day suspension of the entire u.s. refugee program. a warning for travelers this morning after a weekend of impassioned protests at sfo. >> hundreds of people packed the international terminal, denouncing president trump's order. abc 7's amy hollyfield is live at sfo. amy? >> hi, reggie. it is quiet right now. airport officials aren't sure what to expect so they've cancelled police officers' days off until further know fnotice, case there will be more

protests. you might want to think about getting here a few hours early for your flights just in case. here's what it looks like now, quiet. if you're about to head this way, this is what you can expect. here is what it looked like yesterday. more than 1,000 protesters packed into the international terminal at sfo. so many people were here, officials at one point shut down the security checkpoint. officers tell me some people did miss their flights. they're protesting over the executive order issued by president donald trump that focuses on who can come into the country. it says no refugees will be allowed for the next four months. it places an indefinite ban on syrian refugees and bars people from seven muslim majority countries. people here say it is unaccepted. >> i don't know what my life would be like if i hadn't been allowed to come into this country, and i want to make sure that other people have the same right, to a good life as i did when i came here. it is very important. >> there were travelers at sfo who were detained for hours.

officials say five of them, all of them, have been released. there is a request for people here in the bay area. if you have someone coming from one of the countries, and if you're having trouble reaching them at all, the aclu is asking you contact them so they can help you out. reporting live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. among the protesters was a small army of lawyers and law students. they were there to offer legal counsel for travelers who may be caught up in a confusing border security situation. >> there is a lot of confusion about that. there's also confusion about who is controlling the people that board overseas that come here, with what types of documentation. green cards versus non-immigrant visas, refugees. >> organizers tell us the international passengers they'd been tracking made it through customs and have been reunited with loved ones. >> where does this stand legally? federal judges were quick to react to the executive order over the weekend after suits were filed in four states on

behalf of the detainees. in all four cases, the district court judge issued emergency stays, including one in new york, who issued a nationwide stay. important to note here, these cases only apply to people already in the u.s. or are in transit. not those who are still hoping to come here. next, the cases for preliminary injunction will be heard. that would be temporary. if appealed, a trial at the federal appellate court level could stop the enforcement all together. while getting all the way to the supreme court normally takes years, a yale professor says in rare cases of, quote, paramount importance, cases can skip the appellate court level and go to the nation's highest. u.s. senators are pledging efforts in response to president trump's order. diane feinstein plans to introduce a pair of bills today, one of which would rescind the order. feinstein would need republican support for the bill to pass since the gop holds 52 of the senate's 100 seats.

at least four republican senators said the order is extreme. house minority leader nancy pelosi says house democrats will introduce their own bill to rescind the ban, which will be led by representative jo jose. freshman senator harris is embracing the effort and emerging as a protest leader. she joined protesters outside of the white house yesterday demanding anyone detained at a u.s. port of entry has access to legal counsel. >> we are going to fight for ourselves. we are going to fight for our muslim brothers and sisters. we are going to fight for our immigrant brothers and sisters because they and we are what makes this country great. >> harris says no matter what the white house calls it, the president's executive order is a muslim ban. president trump released a statement about the ban late yesterday. it reads, in part, this is not about religion. this is about terror and keeping our country safe. there are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority muslim that are not affected by this order.

we will be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over >> fellow republicans are fearing the ban could backfire, changing how people in the muslim world view america. mccain and graham say it could give isis more propaganda. president trump said, the two senators should focus energies on isis, illegal immigration and border security instead of always looking to start world war 3. >> the head of starbucks is doubling down to hire refugees. he writes, we are developing plans to hire 10,000 refugees in the 75 countries around the world where starbucks does business. in the u.s., it'll start with workers who helped the u.s. troops as translators. the uber president will talk to president trump this week about the ban. he sits on a business advisory board that will meet with the president the first time on

friday. the san francisco based company plans to compensate drivers for lost earnings and create a $3 million defense fund. thousands deleted the app over the weekend after uber provided rides to jfk airport saturday in the middle of a related taxi strike. a backlash against a planned summer visit by the president in britain. millions signed a petition asking for the trip to be cancelled. more than 1,000 people a minute were adding their names. parliament is debating suspending the visit so it doesn't embarrass the queen. immigration continues to play a key role in contributing to canada's well-being. to our economic prosperity and to our success as a nation. we're confident in our programs and will continue to ensure that our immigration system is about compassion, efficiency and
