and go or pretty heavy red traffic flows there approaching the incident. 580 for an alternate if you are not in a truck. we'll look at drive times in less than ten. the bay area's busiest airport is bracing for what could be another day of protests in relation to the president's travel ban. >> amy hollyfield is live at the airport this morning. hi, amy. >> good morning, reggie. there is one sign left here in the international terminal, indicating that something did happen here yesterday. right now, it is very quiet. there are no protesters here this morning. but officials say they're not sure what to expect today. they are advising you, if you have an international flight today, you might want to think about getting here a few hours early. here's what it looked like yesterday. more than 1,000 protesters descended on the international terminal to show outrage over the executive order from president trump, banning refugees and people from seven muslim majority countries from

entering the united states. the protests were large. at one point, they shut down the security checkpoint. officers tell me people missed their flights. it was peaceful. some found it very touching. >> it is beautiful. it makes me feel that we are one in the united states and good citizens. we are not terrorists, as mr. trump profiling us. >> sfo officials say five people were detained because of the executive order, but they have all been released. the aclu is going to be watching today to make sure nothing like this happens. they're asking any of you who have people visiting from the seven countries listed in the executive order, if you haven't heard from them, contact the aclu so they can took into it. airport officials have cancelled days off for the police officers until further notice just in case. now, they have no information indicating any protests are planned for today. live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc

7 news. >> thank you. we are tracking protests along the west coast right now from sfo, as you just saw, to los angeles, to seattle. large crowds showed up at airports last night. more protests from coast to coast are planned for today. despite the growing backlash, an unnamed senior white house official is claiming the ban is a massive success story. at least 16 state attorney generals are vowing to take action. they are calling the ban un-americ un-american. legal experts say some of the cases could end up in the supreme court. >> the department of homeland security says there are no detainees at u.s. airports this morning. look at how many people were stopped over the weekend. 735 people questioned at ports of entry around the world. just 392 permitted to go into the u.s. overseas, 348 were denied boarding at foreign airports. the president has been active on twitter this morning, saying delays at the airports over the weekend were not due to his ban. he tweeted, over 109 people out

terminal to denounce president trump's order. amy hollyfield is there live. >> here's a look at what it looks like right now in the international terminal. it is quiet. no protesters here. but if you're traveling today, you are advised to stay in touch, stay aware and prepare to get here early just in case protesters do show up. here's what it looked like yesterday. more than 1,000 protesters packed into the international term gninal at sfo. officials at one point shut down the security checkpoint. officers tell me there were dozens of people who missed their flights. they're protesting the executive order issued by president trump on who can come into the country. it says no refugees will be allowed the next four months. it places an indefinite ban on syrian refugees and bars between from seven muslim majority countries from coming in. people at the airport were saying it is unacceptable, including some lawyers. >> we have -- lawmakers.

>> we have to make sure our policy is welcoming, that vets people but doesn't leave people stuck at airports or sends them back into areas where they could be harmed. >> for the five people who were detained here at sfo for questioning because of that executive order, they have been released. there is a request for people in the bay area. if you have someone coming from one of those countries and you're having trouble reaching them, the aclu wants to hear from you so they can help any of those people who do -- who are detained and need some assistance. here at the airport, officials have cancelled all days off for police officers just in case. that's indefinitely. they say as of right now, they have no information suggesting that there will be a protest here today but they will be keeping a close eye on things. live at sfo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. among the protesters was an army of lawyers and law students, offering legal counsel for travelers who could have gotten caught up in a confusing

border security situation. >> there's a lot of confusion about that. there's also confusion about who is controlling the people that board overseas, that come here, with what types of documentat n documentation. green cards versus non-immigrant visas. refugees. >> the lawyers we talked to tell us the international passengers they have been tracking made it through customs and have been reunited with their families. >> president trump's executive order banning people from certain countries from entering the u.s. created a lot of confusion for green card holders specifically. one man we spoke with from walnut creek is anxiously waiting for his wife to arrive at sfo. she visited family at iran the last month and tried to come home on friday but was told she couldn't despite her green card status. >> i haven't slept for two days. i would hear contradictory stories. went to the airport. i spoke with three officers. border protection. every single one of them gave me an entirely different answer.

>> after two days, she was finally allowed to board her flight and is due to arrive at sfo this afternoon. homeland security declared permanent residents are exempt from the executive order. if you have any questions about who the ban applies to, we have a full list of resources at abc7news.com. you might be wondering where this stands legally. federal judges were quick to react to the executive order over the weekend after suits were filed in four states on behalf of the detainees. in all four cases, the district court judge issued emergency stays, including the judge in new york, issuing a nationwide stay. the cases apply to people already in the united states or who are in transit to the u.s. not those hoping to come here. next, the cases for preliminary injunction will be heard. that would be temporary. if appealed, a trial at the federal appellate court level could stop the enforcement all together. while getting all the way to the supreme court normally takes years, a yale professor says in rare cases of paramount

importance, cases can skill the appellate court and go straight to the nation's highest. california's u.s. senators pledging efforts in response to president trump's executive order. diane feinstein plans to introduce a pair of bills today. one of those would immediately rescind the order. feinstein would need republican support in order for that to pass. the gop holds a majority. at least four republican senators already said the order is extreme. house minority leader nancy pelosi says democrats will introduce their bill to rescind the ban, led by the representative from san jose. >> congresswoman harris is embracing the protests to stop the president's order. she joined protesters outside of the white house yesterday and is demanding anyone detained at a port of entry has access to legal county. >> -- counsel. >> we are going to fight for ourselves. we are going to fight for our muslim brothers and sisters. we are going to fight for our immigrant brothers and sisters because they and we are what makes this country great.

>> senator harris says no matter what the white house calls it, the president's executive order is a muslim ban. the president is responding on twitter this morning to criticism about his immigration action. writing, there is nothing nice about searching for terrorists before they can enter our country. this was a big part of my campaign. study the world. >> this follows a statement yesterday by president trump that read in part, this is not about religion. this is about terror and keeping our country safe. there are over 40 countries worldwide that are majority muslim not affected by the order. we will again be issuing vivas to all countries once we are sure we've reviewed and implemented the secure policies over the next 90 days. fellow republicans are fearing the ban will affect how people in the muslim world view america and could create backlash. senators john mccain and lindsey graham say in areas, it could give isis more propaganda. president trump responded in a tweet saying, quote, the two senators should focus their energies on isis, illegal immigration and border security
