campus chaos at cal. protests against a self-described internet troll turned violent tonight in berkeley. >> ma'am. >> good evening, and thank you for joining us tonight. >> protesters have been on the streets of berkeley all night, 00 even after cal cancelled the event featuring milo yiannopoulous. >> let's take a look at sky 7 from earlier. protest appears to be over at this point. this is a live look now, berkeley police say they received reports of five injuries. >> take a look at this time line of what happened in berkeley tonight. just after 5:30, the crowd started to form. police set up barricades for the protesters, the demonstration quickly turned violent. at 6:01, can you see someone throwing fireworks toward police on the balcony.

a minute later, demonstrators boke down the barriers and stormed the martin luther king student union building. by 6:25 they had broken windows and set a diesel generator completely on fire. after that, police issued numerous disbursal orders. at least for an hour, protesters remained. by a little after 8:00, many left and took to the streets of berkeley, breaking windows of a chase bank and shattering doors of a bank of america branch. >> now, we have live team coverage tonight, let's begin with lilian kim. lillian? >> university officials say they suspected trouble when they saw paramilitary style protesters march toward campus. uc berkeley police say they had never seen anything like it, protesters dressed in black, inflicting violence on campus. they threw commercial grade fireworks, rocks and much more. >> they began throwing molotov

cocktails and picking up barricades and throwing those. those were not our students. that's not our students behavior. >> the small group of protesters also set fire to a generator. the target of tonight's demonstrations had been escorted out of the building. an estimated 1500 people converged at the height of the protest. people we talked to were happy the event was cancelled. >> we will not tolerate hate or violence. >> he's here to make money off of spewing hate. >> if you do not leave -- >> police repeatedly told the crowd to disburse, at times officers shot paint and pepper bullets at the people responsible for most of the damage. no one was reported to be seriously injured. finally, protesters took their demonstration off campus where vandals left their mark on tell graph avenue. the protest was over, the

leave anyway. this event may never have got off the ground, it seems as though the university police didn't really want it to happen. >> a very intense night in berkeley, stay on the news with our app. the san francisco police department is suspending ties with the fbi's joint terrorism task force. the announcement comes amid growing concerns amid spying on muslim americans by the new trump administration. katie joins us live to explain. katie? >> reporter: san francisco may become a model as other cities look to examine their relationships with federal agencies. the concern from advocates here, is that local police departments could be used for surveillance that is too broad and possibly unconstitutional. >> the san francisco police department is suspending its participation in the fbi's joint

he was trying to break into the deputy's home in buena vista. the suspect ended up collapses in the drive way. neighbors were ordered to shelter in place. >> it's unnerving when s.w.a.t. was here, i'm getting on my cell phone shelter in place. >> no other suspects were found and the shelter in place order was lifted a short time later. >> the sources surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. >> bart could explore the possibilities of corporate partnerships at some stations. the board of directors is considering it as a way to bring in additional revenue. no revenue strategies have been approved, at least not yet, a bart board director says the sponsorship idea could come up for a vote later this year. take a look at live doppler

7. it's going to be slippery, this is just the beginning of our storm that's coming in. pockets of moderate rain in the south bay, right around milpedis. as we take you south, willow glenn area seeing light to moderate rain. in the santa cruz mountains, it's been raining steady. in santa cruz, here in san francisco and on the peninsula, south san francisco, san bruno, you're getting steady light rain. temperatures right now, 40s, 50s, pretty mild with the south wind in san jose, the wind hasn't really gotten too gusty, our concern is, as they increase, we will be seeing the potential for trees down tomorrow. ponding on the roadways, pretty high as the intensity of the rain picks up. the rest of the power outages, creek and river flooding looks pretty low. this is going to get heavier, winter storm warning in effect

now. it runsntil saturday at 4:00 a.m. 2 to 3 feet of snow is expected. with the gusty winds, it's going to make fordicecy driving conditions, i would not advise traveling. if you're traveling out of sfo tomorrow, expect the potential for delays, is it going to be a wet and windy morning commute, scattered showers in the afternoon, it's going to be unsettled through early next week. this system for tomorrow is moderate in strength, it's a two, gusty raining morning. there's a slight chance of thunder thursday going into friday. your hour by hour forecast, 4:00 a.m. pockets of moderate rain. if your commute begins at 7:00 a.m., you're looking at slow going roadways because of the rain. right around 8:00 a.m., you notice it switches over into scattered shower activity, this continues around the time you might be grabbing lunch, you need to hang on to the rain gear. another wave of heavier rain
