grab your umbrella. the showers continue in the bay area this weekend. here's what it looked like earlier this morning in san francisco on lombard street. how long will the rain last on this first weekend of february and how much should we expect. good morning, everybody. it's saturday, february 4. i'm cornell barnard in for chris nguyen. let's start with a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. hey, lisa, good morning. we're going to advertise a little bit of a break in the short-term because in the long-term, we're looking at much more rain. so, as we look at live doppler 7 right now, just a smattering of light showers. in fact, we'll continue to see these dissipate. this little area has been moving to the north and east from hercules through vallejo. scattered light showers from healdsburg, guerneville and as you go further south, the summit around victim santa cruz mountains but it's only a 1 on our storm impact scale. so just 2/10 or so and then it will be breezy so your forecast

calls for an isolated shower through the early afternoon. well, happening now, the -- happening in san francisco, thousands of people are expected to take part in a protest against president trump's travel ban. as first reported by our partners at hoodline, organizers say the protest will target racist and exclusionary executive orders. president trump signed the order last friday, banning travel from seven predominantly muslim countries into the u.s. this is video from last week's protest at sfo. nearly 10,000 people say they will attend the protest on the facebook event. they plan to gather at 3:00 at civic center plaza. celebrations and confusion this morning after a federal judge blocked president trump's travel ban. the decision means visa holders from those seven countries can fly to the u.s. once again. airlines have been given to go-ahead to let those travelers take off.

a federal judge in washington issued a temporary restraining order blocking the order after that state's attorney general filed the request, calling the ban harlful to states' residents and economies. this morning, president trump took to twitter to respond. he says, the opinion of this so-called judge which essentially takes law enforcement away from our country is ridiculous and will be overturned. >> the law is a powerful thing. it has the ability to hold everybody accountable to it, and that includes the president of the united states. >> white house press secretary sean spicer issued this statement, saying, "at the earliest possible time, the department of justice intends to file an emergency stay of this order and defend the executive order of the president, which we believe is lawful and appropriate." abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has a reaction to this decision. >> for the volunteer lawyers who have been here over a week, this is a night for celebration. >> reporter: julia wilson has been helping coordinate volunteers at the airport since

last weekend when mass i crowds turned out to protest president trump's executive order. the federal restraining order has had immediate implications. wilson showed me the e-mails she's been exchanging with a syrian refugee in turkey. >> this is his message. i feel strong with your support and it's such a dream that i will finally see my wife and my son. >> reporter: the white house quickly vowed to challenge the judge's restraining order, but legal analysts say it's not clear how long it may take to worrying itself out in court. >> i'm not sure whether they would hold a hearing. they would probably ask for briefs to be filed very quickly. so, i would think this order would stay in place at least over the weekend. >> reporter: the federal restraining order is just one of a flurry of legal actions filed. a stanford freshman is part of a class action lawsuit filed by the aclu to overturn the order. she's been unsure about her future here. >> if this is going to further affect my studies here in stanford, because i'm from

yemen. >> reporter: yemen is one of the seven primarily muslim countries listed in trump's travel ban. sergio quintana, abc7 news. a central california man and his 12-year-old daughter are scheduled to fly to san francisco tomorrow after being stranded for a week because of the executive order. a u.s. citizen went to east africa to bring his daughter back after she received her immigrant visa. she also has a yemeni passport. they were detained entry to their plane home last week but sfo officials directed the airline to let them board to plane tomorrow afternoon. there was some confusion in the muslim community this morning following the ruling. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has that part of the story. >> reporter: this gathering at the muslim community center in santa clara was intended to help immigrants navigate the new travel restrictions but word came of the temporary restraining order, putting a halt to the ban. >> we're all excited and confused at the same time. >> reporter: hesham hussain is from yemen. he has dual citizenship.

he's supposed to go on a business trip in two weeks. >> even though i hold a u.s. passport, but my family are kind of worried that i might get held up in the airport for longer hours, and they do not want to think about this possibility, so more likely i will cancel the trip. >> reporter: an immigration attorney says he's right to be cautious, despite the judge's order. >> it's not that the judicial order is unclear. it's that it's unclear whether that will be honored. and unclear whether or not that will be properly enforced. whether because of genuine misunderstanding or some other confusion or deliberate disobeyance of the order. >> reporter: idiris abdi is a somali refugee and a u.s. citizen. his mother is still in the refugee camp. he has been saving money to bring her here. >> people are devastated. we lost hope. it took for a while but now we're feeling good. and i hope it stays that way. >> reporter: hope tempered by uncertainty. in santa clara, katie marzullo, abc7 news. we'll stay on top of this fast developing story with the

seizures ever in california just happened right here in the bay area. police arrested jasvir singh and his wife donna santo after a three-month investigation. yesterday, abc7 news was in mountain view where detectives say singh was processing and selling opium poppy pods out of his apartment. police found 4,000 pounds packed into a storage lockers. that's worth $400,000. they say the couple imported large quantities from overseas, then ground it into a fine powder to sell to people who turned it into a potent illegal tea. and neighbors can't believe it. >> wow. opium. weird. very strange. >> officers also found $30,000 in cash inside singh's home. a tiny device is providing a big advantage for patients fighting breast cancer and as abc7's cheryl jennings discovered, it's leading doctors right not target area. >> and how's your range of motion? >> reporter: sue has been a breast cancer activist for decades but last year, tests

revealed she was also a victim. >> then we decided to do a little bit more exploration and only to discover that i had breast cancer in both breasts. >> reporter: dr. ann pellet is a surgeon at california pacific medical center in san francisco, she laid out a plan to remove the tumors and mask the damage. >> try og refill the cavity where the tumor came out so you don't leave a defect and get better cosmetic outcomes. >> reporter: but during that breast reconstruction, dr. pellet also implanted sue with a powerful weapon to help doctors knock out any remaining cancer. the device, known as a biozorb, is a spring-life scaffold with tiny titanium clips that act as a post-cancer gps system. >> the plastic looking part is going to dissolve over time and then these titanium clips titanium clips here are going to remain in. >> reporter: first, the doctor removes the tumor from the breast and then places the

stinson beach in marin county is open once again this morning. crews worked all day to remove this tree that fell across the panoramic highway yesterday. marin public works department tweeted this photo. the highway was closed between the throckmorton fire station and the pantoll campground parking lot. that's a two and a half mile stretch. good saturday morning to you. if you're waking up early with us, you see a few scattered showers here on live doppler 7. the roadways are wet, mainly mist and drizzle this morning as we're going to see this system really wind down, so if you take a look at the green, you'll notice up in the north bay, from novato to san rafael through hercules, i-80, kind of wet out there and we do have light rain being reported around santa rosa. you can see our sweep here on top of mt. st. helena, and also in the santa cruz mountains. so this is a warm system. the temperatures have been mild. the due points well into the 50s, it has been raining in the northern mountains and now it has switched over to rain in the

sierra nevada with temperatures in the mid 30z so when this system passes up to the north, we get a bit of a break and then we've got multiple systems offshore that will continue to get us wet for the week ahead. winter storm warning winter storm warning until 10:00 tonight. so the winter storm warning has dropped but still we can see some heavy snow showers. the winds, they've been quite a factor with a lot of resorts closed yesterday due to those gusty winds. sfo has delays of over three hours yesterday. nothing going on yet, but they could stack up in the mid 50s right now from san francisco. it's 53 in san jose. good morning to you. 52 in gilroy. another vantage point from emeryville and numbers in the low 50s from fairfield. concord, 56 degrees and from the exploratorium camera, it looks pretty dry right here and we'll continue to see the showers become fewer throughout the afternoon. and even a few sunny breaks so

the next storm arrives late tomorrow, anywhere from early evening to late in the day, and the week ahead, looking particularly wet, perhaps tuesday into wednesday, the stronger system coming in. maybe one or 2/10 today maybe in the north bay. some scattered showers, breezy winds and this is the timing of it. as we go through the morning hours, you'll notice a few light areas of returns here and then by 3:00 in the afternoon, it's pretty much over. and we'll see the overnight hours dry tonight into your sunday morning. but look what's lurking offshore in the afternoon. some heavier downpours coming in by about 6:00 or 7:00 at night and then this line goes right over us, right through the evening hours into the overnight hours. so, if you add up what we're expecting throughout the day today, tomorrow into the week ahead, it does look wet. we look to see some rain each and every day with anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 inches throughout the workweek. 61 in oakland.

conditions. cornell? a federal judge in washington state has issued a nationwide restraining order on president trump's travel ban. it halts parts of the executive action signed last week by mr. trump. in an interview with cnn last night, washington's attorney general says he is prepared for the case to go all the way to the supreme court. it comes the same day the president announced a new crack do you kn crackdown over the iranian government's ballistic missile test. >> reporter: the president landing in florida for a weekend get away at his winter white house, mar-a-lago. but not before making good on that threat to put iran on notice. >> they're not behaving. >> reporter: the white house issuing new sanctions going directly after people and entities tied to iran's ballistic missile program. we asked, is this just the beginning? or should americans be ready for the possibility of military action with iran? is that on the table? >> i've said this before. the president's been very clear.

he doesn't take options off the table but he understands the impact of something like that. >> reporter: in a statement, tehran saying it will respond proportionately and iran's missile program is the right of the iranian nation. as the white house goes on offense against iran, it is playing defense on the president's controversial extreme vetting executive order. temporarily banning travelers from seven majority muslim countries. it is now the subject of multiple lawsuits. a federal judge in washington state has temporarily halted the order nationwide. what exactly that means still unclear at this hour. but the state attorney general declaring victory. >> judge robart's decision, effective immediately, effective now, puts a halt to president trump's unconstitutional and unlawful executive order. i want to repeat that. it puts a stop to it immediately. nationwide. >> reporter: no word on whether the white house will appeal. the justice department saying in

a statement it looks forward to reviewing the court's written order and will determine next steps. and in a virginia court, a justice department attorney said more than 100,000 visas have been revoked. >> i mean, the number 100,000 really sucked the air out of my lungs. i think you could hear the collective gasp in the courtroom. >> reporter: the state department later said the number of people who had their viss revoked is about 60,000. amid the fallout from images like these, families reunited after being detained at airports across the country, the white house initially focused on a much smaller number. >> we had 109 people that were temporarily detained. they're all in. but they were temporarily detained to make sure that the safety of the other 324 million americans was put first. i don't see how that's a big problem. >> reporter: it is becoming increasingly clear tens of thousands of people directly impacted by the new policy. of the nearly 60,000 who have had their visas revoked,

thousands are already here in the country. they won't be deported but if they leave, they will not be allowed back in. and there are tens of thousands more overseas with visas already in hand who would have been allowed in but no longer. cecilia vega, abc news, the white house. new this morning, after the first two weeks of his presidency, president trump is discussioning the controversial travel ban. in his address, he vowed to keep the american people safe, explaining why he signed the executive order. >> the executive order establishes a process to develop new vetting and mechanisms to ensure those coming into america love and support our people. that they have good intentions. you, the law-abiding citizens of this country, are my total priority. your safety, your jobs, and your wages guide our decisions. >> president trump says he will continue his america first approach when it comes to trade, taxes, immigration, and foreign affairs. one day after nordstrom said it was cutting ivanka trump's

clothing line, the last of the items are being marked down in what some are calling a fire sale. yesterday afternoon, a few shoes that were available online were selling for 40% off the original price. a spoerks person for ivanka trump's line says nordstrom still has her products. as abc7 news reporter kate larson explains, the whole thing was prompted by a bay area boycott. >> reporter: nordstrom and neiman marcus say they're dropping the ivanka trump brand. neiman's announcing it will no longer be carrying her julie line on its website. nordstrom also dropping shoes and clothing, saying, based on the brand's performance, we decided not to buy it for this season. >> people can vote with their vote but they can also vote with their pocketbook. >> in my mind, there's a very clear connection. >> reporter: shannon colter is talking about a boycott she helped start in october using the hashtag, grab your wallet to

workplace protections for lgbt americans. the couple lobbied president trump to issue a statement promising to uphold the order. the white house released the statement tuesday night promising to protect lgbt rights. a bay area legislator wants to stop landlords from using president trump's immigration crackdown to force tenants out of their homes. yesterday, abc7 news was at san francisco's mission neighborhood center as assembly man david chiu introduced the bill. it would prohibit landlords from threatening to report tenants to immigration authorities. legal aide groups say landlords are threatening tenants with deportation so they can leave on their own, allowing landlords to raise rents. >> this particular landlord said to the tenants, don't make me give you an eviction notice and go through the courts, you'll be deported if that happens. >> the bill also bars landlords from disclosing information about a tenant's immigration status. it's patterned after a similar

workplace protection that exists in the state. happening today in the south bay, more than 1,000 bay area educators will meet at the california teachers association conference to urge a no vote on president trump's education secretary nominee, betsy devos. she is a school choice activist and has been promoting charter schols for more than 20 years, but labor unions fiercely oppose her, saying she is trying to take apart public education. the confirmation vote in the u.s. senate for devos is monday. educators plan to meet at noon today at the fair month hotel in san jose. coffee shops across the nation are raising money for the american civil liberties union or aclu. our partners at hoodline report that andytown coffee roasters in san francisco's outer sunset is one of the participating locations. andytown is providing these postcards to send to senators feinstein and harris thanking them for leading the fight against the travel ban. all donations to andytown will

here's live doppler 7. starting in the north bay, you can see from marin county there, across 580 in richmond, vallejo, a few areas of light rain up towards geyserville, healdsburg, and santa rosa and further to the south on the peninsula, 280 here all the way down through pescadero and the santa cruz mountains, certainly wet, it's foggy at the coast, the visibility is low and we're looking at some breezy winds up to 20 miles an hour. but this is all pretty much rain or changing over to rain and we have a conveyor belt of moisture that's going to aim right at the bay area for much of the upcoming workweek. but we are going to get a break after this system pushes through, oh, in the next couple of hours but in the sierra nevada still looking at a winter weather advisory, 4 inches of snow above 6,000 feet. heavier snow showers above that and looking at gusty winds again. yesterdays a lot of the resorts were closed down due to the gusty winds and today could be the same issue. from emeryville, pretty gray out

there. 56 in the still, 52 in gilroy, 55 in half moon bay and looking at santa cruz where numbers are in the mid 50s now, going up to about 60 today and maybe a few light areas of sprinkles, otherwise it will be a few sunny peeks there and this is a shot of tahoe where you can see the snow but right now, we've got some rain happening with temperatures in the mid 30s so some showers, maybe a few peeks of sun. the next storm system arrives late tomorrow from the early evening hours to the later evening hours and then the rainy pattern throughout much of the upcoming workweek, tuesday, tuesday night, looks particularly strong, stronger than what we're going to see between now and about tomorrow night. so, things are going to settle down in the next few hours, just a scattered showers here or there, 1 to 2/10 and as we go through the next few hours, a wave now and another wave by about 11:00 or 12:00 and then after that, we get a pretty decent break. showers will be isolated, taking you through tonight, tomorrow,

and then by 4:00 p.m., sonoma county could be getting wet but it's really 7:00 when the showers, the line of pretty good rain is offshore. you can see it heading south ward from sonoma and marin by 8:00 and by the evening, it's pretty rainy out there. so, if we add up the rain totals from that system late tomorrow, we are looking at anywhere from about 1/10 inch to over 1 inch in santa rosa. so humid again today, upper 50s to low 60s and the accuweather 7 day forecast, we have a 1 on our storm impact scale each and every day with some scattered showers, late tomorrow looks tock a stormy night. morning showers on monday. tuesday could be a little heavier and then we'll look at more rain for wednesday and on and on. so, we're hoping that we get enough breaks in between that we don't see some flooding problems. so download our app and you will be up to date. wow. just wow. that's all i can say. all right. we'll take it, lisa. thank you. we are just one day away from super bowl sunday as the new england patriots take on the
