the showers continue in the bay area this weekend. this is what it looked like earlier this morning. how long will the rain last and how much should we expect? good morning, everybody, it's saturday, february 4th. i'm cornell bernard in for chris nguyen. a wet one out there. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> we've been watching the showers scattered about this morning. we'll take you around the east bay at street level. this is around piedmont, 580. pinehurst road and up to highway 24 in lafayette. further to the north bay, it's raining east of windsor and on the peninsula. 280 just a little bit wet there and into the santa cruz mountains. as we put this into motion, you'll notice how scattered in

nature this is, and throughout the day today we'll see less rain with just anywhere from .1 to .2. some sunshine in san jose. sunny breaks here and there. and we'll look for a kind of mild to muggy afternoon. heavier rain to the second half of your weekend. i'll time that out for you coming up. >> thank you, lisa. breaking news out of the east bay. police are investigating an early-morning shooting that left one person dead. it happened just before 1:30 this morning near maybell avenue. the victim was taken to the hospital but died. thousands much people expected to take part in a protest against president trump's travel ban. as first reported by our partners at hoodline, they say the protests will target racist and exclusionary executive orders. president trump signed the order last friday banning travel from seven predominantly muslim countries into the u.s. nearly 10,000 people say they

will attend the protest event. organized on facebook. they plan to gather at 3:00 at civic center plaza. the state department said it will comply with the judge's order reversing visa applications following president trump's travel ban, which means visa holders from the seven countries can fly to the u.s. once again. last night a federal judge in washington issued a temporary restraining order blocking the order after that state's attorney general filed a request calling the ban harmful to state's residents and economies. trump said the opinion of this so-called judge which essentially takes law enforcement away from our country is ridiculous and will be overturned. >> the law is a powerful thing. it has the ability to hold everybody accountable to it, and that includes the president of the united states. >> white house press secretary sean spicer issued this statement saying, at the earliest possible time, the department of justice intends to

file an emergency stay of this order. and defend the executive order of the president, which we believe is lawful and appropriate. abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana has the story. >> reporter: julia wilson has been helping coordinate volunteers at the airport since last weekend when massive crowds turned out to protest president trump's executive order. the restraining order had immediate implications. wilson showed me the e-mail she had been exchanging from a syrian refugee in syria. >> i feel strongly of upsupport, i will finally see my wife and son. >> reporter: the white house quickly vowed to challenge the judge's restraining order. but it's not clear how long it will take to work itself out in court. >> i'm not sure whether they would hold a hearing. they would probably ask for briefs to be filed very quickly.

i would think this order would stay in place at least over the weekend. >> reporter: the federal restraining order is just one of many filed. this woman has been unsure about her future here. >> this is going to further affect my studies here in stanford, because i'm from yemen. >> reporter: yemen is one of the primarily seven muslim countries mentioned in the travel ban. central california man and his 12-year-old daughter are scheduled to fly to san francisco tomorrow after being stranded for a week because of the executive order. ahmed ali, a u.s. citizen, went to east africa to bring her daughter back after she received her immigrant visa. they were denied entry to their plane home last week. but sfo officials directed the airline to let them board the plane headed to sfo tomorrow afternoon. there is some confusion in

the muslim community this morning following the ruling. katie marzullo has that part of the story. >> reporter: this gathering at the muslim community center in santa clara was intended to help immigrants navigate the new travel restrictions. word came of the temporary restraining order putting a halt to the ban. >> we're all excited. >> reporter: hussein is from yemen. he has dual citizenship. he's supposed to go on a business trip in two weeks. >> even though i hold a u.s. passport, my family are kind of worried that i might get held up in the airports for longer hours and they do not want to think about the possibility. more than likely i will cancel the trip. >> it's not that the judicial order is unclear, it's that it's unclear whether that will be honored, and unclear whether or not that will be properly enforced, because of genuine misunderstanding or some other confusion or deliberate disobeyance of the order.

one of the largest opium seizures ever in california happened here in the bay area. police arrested singh and his wife after a three-month investigation. yesterday abc 7 news was in mountain view where investigators say singh was processing and selling opium poppy pods out of his apartment. police found 4,000 pounds packed into storage lockers. that's worth $400,000. they say the couple imported large quantities from overseas ten ground it into a fine powder to sell to people who turned it into a potent illegal tea. neighbors can't believe it. >> wow. opium. weird. very strange. >> officers also found $30,000 in cash inside singh's home sglchcts a tiny device is providing a big advantage for patients fighting breast cancer.

as cheryl jennings discovered, it's leading doctors right to the target area. >> reporter: this woman has been a breast cancer activist for decades. but tests revealed she's also a victim. >> we decided to do more exploration. only to discover that i have breast cancer in both breasts. >> reporter: a surgeon in san francisco laid out a plan to remove the tumors, and mask the damage. >> we're trying to refill the cavity so you get a better cosmetic outcome. >> reporter: during that breast reconstruction, dr. pellet also implanted sue with a powerful weapon to help the doctors knock out any remaining cancers. the device is a spring-like scaffold with tiny titanium clips that act as a post-cancer system. >> it will dissolve over time.

and then the titanium clips here are what are going to remain in. >> reporter: first, dr. pellet removes the tumor from the breast, then places the biosorb into the cavity area before rebuilding the tissue around it. as it heals and the scaffold dissolves, they're locked into place. they will provide a visible target for radiologists. >> the inner circle represents the marker that's in place, and that's the area that we have to treat. >> reporter: dr. john lee said the titanium clips form a clear outline on their targeting imaging allowing his team to more precisely control the powerful doses of radiation. >> it allows us to focus the radiation at where the tumor was, but avoid the structures like the heart, lungs, ribs, next to it, that might be damaged. >> reporter: in sue-case, the target imaging was so clear, she was actually able to skip follow-up scans. and begin her radiation earlier.

people, but more seats are coming with a new location. they're opening a $30 million brewery down the road sometime next year in windsor. your forecast with lisa argen. >> scattered light showers in the north bay. really just few and far between here from napa to pengrove, as we go into the east bay you'll see around arinda, wet pavement is more like it. around the santa cruz mountains perhaps. but overall, we're beginning to see a break in the action. this is the sierra nevada where we've seen some rain. the a winter weather warning has been replaced with a winter advisory. a lot of resorts were closed yesterday because of the wind and still potential gusty winds up to 40 miles an hour. we have a nice break in san jose. where some sunshine today will allow temperatures to reach 60 degrees. look at already, 57 in the city.

54 in san jose. 55 on the coast. a little grayer here further to the north, the golden gate bridge. the visibility has been reduced, but believe it or not, no airport delays yet. we're looking at 2 1/2 miles along the coast, 3 miles in napa, and looking at the breaks in the clouds throughout the afternoon. here's a look at the mountains where you can see some of the lifts running. but really nobody on there. they're probably in a holding patte pattern. lingering showers for the first part of the day. the next storm arrives late tomorrow for some of you. some of you the early evening hours. a rainy pattern throughout next week. tuesday looks especially rainy later on in the day. today it's a 1 on the storm impact scale. that means light activity with .1 of an inch or less. the model is doing well. at 8:00 they've sort of picked up where we have the scattered showers.

as we take you hour by hour, you'll notice 11:00, we're not through with it yet. still throughout the afternoon, we're not looking totally dry, but there will be some breaks. through the overnight hours and into tomorrow, yeah, we are going to see a pretty good break. it's not until about 4:00 up in sonoma county you get the heavier impact by about dinnertime. and this pushes across the entire bay area for a rainy evening. so look to see what happens in the overnight hours. it takes us right on through monday. rainfall amounts anywhere from .1 of an inch to over an inch in santa rosa. highs in the upper 50s, low 60s. if you're planning to go to the mountains, temperatures in the upper 30s. that might be a problem. but still, that advisory in effect. the accuweather seven-day forecast, download our abc 7 news app, for now we're looking

good morning. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, cornell. we have a few light showers, sunshine, and some fog out there. we're starting out at street level in the east bay, or thereabouts, around lafayette and pleasant hills. 680 looking at a few light showers into concord perhaps. certainly some wet pavement for you. in the north bay, you can see from pengrove to 280 further south into the santa cruz mountains we've had showers. we have sunny breaks. throughout the day today, the rainbow in the afternoon. temperatures on the humid site. dew points pretty high. we'll get a little bit of a break today, tonight heavier rain later tomorrow, and the week ahead, glad you asked. you'll want to come back and take a look at how much rain we

have in store for you. cornell? >> lisa, thank you. the state department said it will comply with the judge's order regarding visa applications following president trump's travel ban. visa holders from seven countries can fly to the u.s. again. last night a federal judge in washington state issued a nationwide restraining order on president trump's travel ban that halts parts of the executive order signed last week. in an interview with cnn, washington's attorney general said he is prepared for the case to go all the way to the supreme court. abc news senior white house correspondent cecilia vega has more. >> reporter: the president landing in florida at his winter white house mar-a-lago. but not before making good on that threat to put iran on notice. >> there's not behaving. >> reporter: the white house issuing new sanctions going directly after people and entities tied to iran's ballistic missile program. we asked, is this just the beginning? should americans be ready for the possibility of military

action with iran? is that on the table? >> i've said this before, the president's been very clear, he won't take options off the table but understands the impact of something like that. >> reporter: tehran saying it will respond proportionately and that iran's missile program is the undeniable and inalienable right of the iranian nation. as the white house goes on offense against iran, it is playing defense on the president's controversial extreme vetting executive order, temporarily banning travelers from seven majority muslim countries. it is now the subject of multiple lawsuits. a federal judge in washington state has temporarily halted the order nationwide. what exactly that means, still unclear at this hour. but the state attorney general declaring victory. >> judge robart's decision effective immediately, effective now, puts a halt to president trump's unconstitutional and unlawful executive order. i want to repeat that, it puts a

stop to it immediately. nationwide. >> reporter: no word on whether the white house will appeal. the justice department saying in a statement it looks forward to reviewing the court's written order and will determine next steps. in a virginia court, a justice department attorney said more than 100,000 visas have been revoked. >> the number 100,000 sucked the air out of my lungs. >> reporter: the state department said the number of people who had their visas revoked is actually about 60,000. but amid the fallout from images like these, families reunited after being detained at airports across the country, the white house initially focused on a much smaller number. >> we had 109 people who were temporarily detained. they're all in. but they were temporarily detained to make sure that the safety of the other 324 million americans was put first. i don't see how that's a big problem. >> reporter: it is becoming increasingly clear tens of

thousands of people directly impacted by the new policy. of the nearly 60,000 who have had their visas are evoked, thousands are already here in the country. they won't be deported, but if they leave, they will not be allowed pack in. and there are tens of thousands more overseas with visas already in hand who would have been allowed in, but no longer. abc news, the white house. democratic leader nancy pelosi just released this statement following the judge's order to halt the ban. she said it's a victory for our values, security and constitution. new this morning, after the first two weeks of his presidency, president trump is discussing the controversial travel ban. in his address, the president vowed to keep the american people safe, explaining why he signed the order. >> the executive order establishing a process to develop new vetting and mechanisms to ensure those coming into america love and support our people. that they have good intentions.

you, the law-abiding citizens of this country, are my total priority. your safety, your jobs, and your wages guide our decisions. >> president trump said he will continue his america first approach when it comes to trade, taxes, immigration, and foreign affairs. a day after nordstrom said they're cutting ivanka's clothing line, some are calling it a fire sale. a few shoes available online were selling for 40% off the original price. a spokes partnership for ivanka trump's line said nordstrom still has her product. as kate larsen explains, it was all prompted by a bay area boycott called grab your wallet. >> reporter: neiman marcus announcing it will no longer be carrying ivanka trump's jewelry line on its website, and nordstrom saying based on the

brand's performance we decided not to buy it for this season. >> people can vote with their votes, but also vote with their pocketbooks. >> there's a clear connection between the boycott and nordstrom's decision. >> reporter: shannon who we spoke to today is talking about a boycott she helped start in october. using the #grab your wallet, to discourage retailers from doing business with the trump family. >> from october 11th through yesterday, the hash tag has been seen on twitter over 600 million times. especially women don't want to see the trump name while shopping. >> reporter: that's true for sharon who learned macy's in union square still has an ivanka shoe display. >> if they don't get them out, i'm not coming back in. >> i actually like her shoes. i own some myself. not necessarily a big fan of her dad but i think she's great.

>> reporter: a spokesperson for the ivanka trump brand said nordstrom did purchase their apparel for spring. in san francisco, kate larsen, abc 7 news. a bay area legislator wants lan lords from using president trump's immigration crackdown to force tenants out of their homes. abc news was there when david chu introduced the bill. legal aid groups say land lords are threatening tenants. >> don't make me give you an eviction notice or you'll be deported. >> the bill also bars landlords from disclosing information about tenants' immigration statuses. workplace protections already exist in the state. happening today in the south bay, more than 1,000 bay area

educators will meet at the california teachers association conference to urge a no vote on president trump's education secretary nominee. betsy devoss is promoting charter schools for more than 20 years. but labor unions fiercely oppose her saying she's trying to take apart public education. the confirmation vote in the u.s. senate is monday. educators plan to meet at noon, today at the fairmont hotel in san jose. coffee shops across the nation including some here in the bay area are raising money for the american civil liberties union, or aclu. our partners at hoodline report that the coffee roasters in the outer sunset is one of the participating locations. they're providing these postcards to send to senators dianne feinstein for leading the fight against the travel ban. all donations to andytown will be given to the aclu. >> specifically the country of

just very widely scattered. as we go into later on tomorrow, we begin to gather in the north bay. 5:00. the heavier rain moves over the bay area. dinnertime tomorrow, right on through the evening, we'll get some downpours. this is 11:00. into monday morning, your monday morning will be soggy. the roadways will be wet because as we go through 6:00, you'll notice still showers out there through 9:00. i talked about the uncertainty of the extended outlook. but as we put the rainfall together in total for the next six days, we're looking at 2 1/2 to potentially 3 1/2 inches with some on-and-off rain. more likely on after tuesday. so highs today, underneath a partly to mostly cloudy sky with scattered showers. the break today more or less into tonight and tomorrow. the heavier downpours for sunday night. leftover showers for monday. more wind and rain on tuesday.
