live, where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> good morning, everybody, i am carolyn tyler. thank you for joining us this sunday, february 5th. let's go to our meteorologist, lisa argen. >> as we get started, visibility is reduced in some spots, and if you look at live doppler 7, you will notice we are not picking up green or rain, but as we cue it up offshore, you will see what is on the way, plenty of clouds and the next storm system. 40s and 50s with cloudy skies today, and in the 50s for most of you by noontime, and between 5:00 and 6:00, rain will develop in the north bay spreading

south. it's a 1 on our impact scale, and we'll time it all out for you coming up. thank you, lisa. developing news this morning, the u.s. court of appeals denied an emergency motion by the u.s. justice department to immediately block a suspension of president trump's travel ban. what does it mean? the ban is not in effect and will remain on hold until at least tomorrow afternoon, giving both sides time to file legal briefs, and then the court will make a decision. the justice department says the injunction immediately harms the public by thwarting the enforcement of the executive order of the president based on his national security judgment. >> this is the paperwork and the docket number specifically assigned to what continues to be a historic case. three ninth circuit court judges will decide if a restraining

order issued by a washington state federal judge should be reversed, and last week president trump signed a travel ban prompting nationwide. little insist the current executive order is too broad. >> we want to keep out bad guys and terrorists but you are keeping outwei way more than th. >> this 12-year-old was born in yemen who a mother had only recently becoming a citizen. she has her visa and is due to arrive at sfo on sunday and still her attorneys are worried.

>> if there were an emergency order issued the stop the ban from being applied and she could be stranded again. >> the judges could make a decision at anytime and experts believe it likely will be early next week. iranian media says the country has reversed its decision to deny entry visas allowing the u.s. wrestling team to participate in the freestyle world cup later this month and the wrestlers were initially banned from the country after president trump's immigration order. in florida, 3,000 protesters chanted against the now blocked executive order near the president's private

and they dressed a flag over a coffin that they say represents the death of democracy. >> president trump sent out this tweet. for the second week protesters in san francisco against the order, and sky 7 was above the civil plaza yesterday afternoon, and hundreds of protesters say they plan on keeping up the pressure on the administration. and sergio quintana was on the ground and as this story. >> reporter: this event brings together a cross section of people that share a similar concern. >> i'm here to protest what trump is doing. we're the voice that has to say something for anything to change. >> reporter: the feeling at this

demonstration was notably different than the protest clouds we saw last weekend. on sunday people flooded san francisco international airport, and many aim to shut down security lines to get their voices heard. this was not a rally aimed at shutting anything down or parading through the streets. it was one of dozens across the country that were organized as a du demonstration of momentum. this is a protest of president trump's executive order and speakers are encouraging people to do more than turning out at rallies. >> organizing means talking to members of congress and trying to get at them at all avenues, writing and calling and showing up to town hall meetings. >> reporter: these two are originally from iran and came here to voice their concerns about president trump. >> the way he is leading the

country is going towards what reminds me of back home. >> reporter: this event was peaceful and there were no counter protesters. >> members of the bay areas community joined that protest. their message, don't keep us out. abc 7 news anchor, eric thomas, has the details. >> reporter: dozens of yemeni emgrune immigrants are discussing why they believe the ban is misguided. >> we are american citizen. we protect this country. we will continue to protect this country. >> yemen is one of the seven countries included in the ban. mansoor said he had been in contact with 75 americans trapped overseas this week. meantime, many of the folks they

meeting marched to the protest at civic center, and after talking to his immigration attorney, he's not sure his wife can get a visa this week. >> she said everything is stopped for now, and until you hear news. i don't know when. >> this yemeni national is afraid to travel overseas and he's speaking through an interpreter. >> he's a green card holder, and he's worried about being one of those trapped. >> none of us have ever committed a crime. we are all law-abiding citizens. we pay our tax and work hard. >> eric thomas, abc 7 news. a family who visited iran for an engagement party will be reunited because of the travel ban. the family doesn't know why one

what, you think our country is so innocent? >> critics saying he is putting the u.s. on par with putin who is accused of ordering the murder of dissidents, and trump says he respect putin but will not ge -- that doesn't mean he will get along with him. and posted on his facebook page he hopes to return within the next few months to give the speech he was prevented from delivering. campus republicans from uc berkeley invited him but protests turned violent and the event was canceled. yesterday abc news was at the temporary shelter, about a block away from the fire.

volunteers are now helping the seniors with food and clothing, and the city is working to find them new places to live. this morning, a pair of alameda county k-9s and their deputies are in houston helping to keep everybody safe at super bowl li. the department tweeted out this picture last night of the two deputies in front of the convention center. they thanked them for their service. i understand in houston the weather is not so great right now. >> yeah, i have some friends in houston, and you are absolutely right, they concur. but you know what? we are need this rain, and we are getting more, and snow. we will talk about a busywork week to come. right now a live look outside from the exphroloratorium. we'll time out the rain and talk about when it shuts off coming up. also ahead, why a republican

yesterday afternoon around 2:00 to 3:00 on vicksburg avenue in oakland. the 73-year-old has dimension and is hearing impaired and anybody that tries to talk to him has to speak very loudly, and he doesn't speak english. if you see him you are urged to contact the oakland police. a crowd chanted shame as a republican lawmaker was escorted outside of a town hall meeting in sacramento yesterday, and tom mcclintock of roseville took questions from the crowd and they asked about climate change and the president's immigration order and the affordable act, and his answers led to loud booing, and security capped the attendance inside the hall at

charter schools and former florida governor jeb bush is in her corner and thinks she can help to reform the education system. a right of passage for many young boys. the cub scouts district pine wood derby was held yesterday from santa clara, and they built custom cars from just a block of wood. this is the tenth year the race was held at the muslim community association. the scouts believe in respecting people of all faiths. >> we in the boy scouts, we have a code to be rev runt, but we don't define what rev runt is to people. it's good to see people who live different and the whole community together. >> levi margolis had the fastest

maybe a few returns but overall we are dry and cloudy skies to get going. we are looking at a storm system off the coast here, and this will be arriving late tonight and arriving for heavy downpours. it will take us through your monday morning commute. we already have a winter storm warning for the west slope of the sierra nevada, and this lasts until 4:00 p.m., and the one in tahoe lasts until 10:00 p.m. on tuesday. you can see two to three feet at some of the resorts from tahoe city, and the high base allowing for five feet of snow. unbelievable. as we start off this morning, it's 48 degrees in sunniville, and 50 in san jose, and temperatures elsewhere, slightly cooler than yesterday. the dew points are down a little bit and we are back in the mid-40s feeling a little less humid. 51 in alameda.

compared to yesterday, it's 11 degrees cooler from livermore to about 8 degrees cooler in some spots along the peninsula. a long island look outside, foggy this morning, and we do have areas where the fog is shrouding parts of the city here. the rainy pattern lasting throughout the middle of the week, and it looks like the end of the week to the next weekend will get a little reprieve. we are looking at almost 2 inches of rain in mill valley and half an inch around hayward, and one-third of an inch around mountain view, and then we are going to add another three or four in the next couple of days in the mountains there. let's time out the system. we are looking at the cloud cover, and it's rainy in santa rosa, and 7:00, some locally heavy downpours, and this will continue through the 10:00, 11:00 hour, and as you wake up

and go to work or school on monday, we will continue to see the showers, and it looks like we are going to get a break but we are not. the next system quickly on its heels, and then this is when we get the heavier rain. monday night into tuesday night, and then it just kind of keeps on coming. so this first system, we are not looking at much in the inland valleys, and most amounts in the coastal hills and in the north bay up to an inch. that's just with system number one. upper 50s to low 60s. it's a one on our storm impact scale, and we are looking at the heavier rain monday night into tuesday. still a 1 on our storm impact scale. and leftove showers ends on wednesday, and most of the activity on wednesday will be in the north bay, and another system on thursday, and then this should come to an end by late in the week, and we are looking at significant break hopefully with high pressure building and you can download our app to time it out in your neighborhood.

stops working how can you prove it wasn't your fault? an east bay man said he was unfairly blamed when his brand-new phone died, and he went in person to an ask finney event. >> reporter: it was a great night meeting so many viewers out in walnut creek and answering your questions in person. >> we decided to go and see michael and let him know we were having a problem. >> john was very frustrated. >> they came to see me and brought the phone with them. john's samsung galaxy phone would not turn on. but that was not why he was so upset, it was the fact that

>> jeff, you know, we had a little thing called super bowl 50, and they are still debating the economic impact. i am wondering if there has been that sort of debate there in houston about whether this is really just a big party or does it bring something to the table economically? >> reporter: you know, we have not got to the point of adding up all of the dollars, but you know there's that debate in san francisco and in every host city, did it actually turn a profit. i can tell you this, this is a 24 an hour operation, and we have been downtown houston throughout the week and talked to dozens and dozens of people working as security and that kind of stuff, and they are seeing a direct economic benefit because they have jobs that they would not have had otherwise, and there were venues that popped up in empty fields and parking lots all around town and a lot of people that did that, they hired local people to do

the electrical and steel work, and so on a personal economic scale i know a lot of people are feeling an economic impact from this, and as far as the city goes, how much money is pumped into the city and that's something that will be looked at in a couple tkaeutz days or a w everybody here is certainly ready for the game. >> go falcons. thanks, jeff. lady gaga's half-time show will have drones, and last week the faa declared a 34.5-mile radius around the houston stadium, and a no-drone zone on game day, and not for lady gaga, and it's the first time any super bowl

so-called judge that takes law enforcement from our country is ridiculous and will be overturned. he reinforced the belief at a red cross gala at his florida estate last night. outside the estate protesters chanted tkpwepbagainst and in f the president. and vice president mike pence thinks trump is if the person he always has been. >> how is he a so-called judge? >> again, we face a dangerous enemy, inspiring people to come into this country and frankly inspiring people already in this country and the president is determined to use the authority he has under the constitution and under the law, but we are -- >> does the judge have the authority to do what he did as well? >> what does mike pence say about the authority?

we'll find out on "this week" this morning at 8:00 right here on abc 7. surprising video shows a laptop computer exploding into flames. a security camera at a home in thousand oaks shows flames shooting out of a 4-year-old dell laptop plugged in inside the couch. and it happened again when it was unplunged and outside. >> the fire appears to have come from the laptop's lithium ion battery, and dell recalled 4 million of those batteries back in 2006 because of the risk of fire, and it's promising to investigate this case. never charge your laptop on a couch or bed, only on a hard r surfa surface, and you should not leave it plugged in overnight while you sleep or leave for

and still both of these a one on the storm impact scale, and it looks like we are looking at a dry end of the week and weekend. as we look at the rest of the day today some holes in the overcast and then by 5:00, the north bay, and getting the downpours here, it will take until 7:00 when it pushes to the south and east, and it will keep going throughout the evening hours. we will get the downpours. and on the peninsula, pi particularly wet. and here's the monday morning commute. we have more downpours, 11:00 on monday. that's the first system, and then the one coming in on monday night into tuesday, that will bring the widespread steady rain, and that's going to last. we are going to look at rainfall amounts with the first system, anywhere from quarter to an inch in the inland valleys. that doesn't sound like much and it's not, and then the one
