thank you for joining us on this sunday, february 5th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist, lisa argen. >> hi, everyone. we are starting out dry, and live doppler 7 picking up on cloud cover but we will wait on the rain. we have a moist flow from the pacific queuing up offshore and it will spread south throughout the rest of the evening hours. 50 in oakland as well as hayward. 49 in san jose, with cooler numbers to livermore. forecast today, patchy fog and clouds. we will be mild again, upper 50s to low 60s, and we will see the rain towards the evening hours and it stays with us all night into your monday. i will time it out for you in just a few minutes. the ninth district court of appeals here in san francisco has denied an emergency motion by the u.s. justice department to immediately block a

suspension of trump's travel ban. that means the ban is not in effect and will remain on hold until at least tomorrow afternoon, giving both sides time to file legal briefs and then the court will make a decision. the justice department says the engiinjunction says the ban har the public by the executive order of president trump based on his national security judgment. abc 7 news reporter has more. >> reporter: this is the paperwork and the docket number specifically assigned to what continues to be a historic case, and three ninth circuit court judges will decide if a restraining order issue bide a washington state judge should be reversed, and last month donald trump signed a travel ban prompting pretests nationwide. >> i think it's unlikely they would vacate the stay. >> the emergency motion argues

president trump has the power to regulate immigration and protect our borders. little insists the current executive order is way too broad. >> we want to keep out bad guys and terrorists, okay, but you are keeping outweigh more than that, and you are keeping out lots of people that already have been vetted, et cetera. >> this 12-year-old was born in yemen to a mother who recently had become a u.s. citizen, and that means she did not automatically qualify as a u.s. citizen and has been living in yemen without her parents, and she was supposed to arrive on sunday but her parents are worried. >> if there was an order issued to stop this from being applied, we would go back to having the executive order enforced and she could be stranded again. >> reporter: the judges could take a decision at anytime and experts believe it likely will be early next week.

in san francisco, abc news. >> iranian media said that country reversed its decision to deny entry visas allowing the u.s. wrestling team to participate in the freestyle world cup later this month. the wrestlers initially had been banned from the competition in response to president trump's immigration order. >> in florida, thousands of protesters chanted against the now-blocked executve order near the president's private mar-a-lago resort, and president trump hosted a fund-raiser for the national red cross last night, and the protesters flagged a coffin and they say it represents the death of democracy. and president trump had this tweet, the judge opens up our country to potential terrorists

and others that do not have our best interests at heart, and bad people are very happy. >> sky 7 was above civic center plaza in san francisco yesterday afternoon where hundreds of demonstrators say they plan to keep up the pressure on the administration. abc 7 news reporter, sergio quintana, has the story. >> reporter: this event brings together a cross section of people that share a similar concern. >> i am here to protest what trump is doing. >> we are the voice that has to say something for everything to change. >> reporter: the feeling at this demonstration was notably different than the protest crowds we saw last weekend. on sunday people flooded san francisco international airport and many aim to shut down the security lines to get their voices heard. this was not a rally aimed at shutting anything down or parading through the streets.

it was one of dozens across the country that were organized as a demonstration of momentum to keep public pressure on the administration. this is the second week of protests against donald trump's executive order, and speakers are encouraging people to do more than turn out at rallies. >> organizing means talking to your members of congress and trying to get at them in all avenues, from writing to them and calling them and showing up to town hall meetings. >> reporter: it was a multicultural and nationality group. >> the way he is acting and the way he is leading the country, it's going towards what reminds me of people back home. >> reporter: this event were peaceful and there were no counter protesters, and at san francisco city hall, abc 7 news. >> members of the bay area

yemeni community joins them. >> reporter: dozens of yemeni immigrants packed a room at the holiday inn to get the latest updates about the president trump travel ban and why it's misguided. >> we are an american citizen and we protect this country and we will continue to protect this country. >> reporter: yemen is one of the seven countries included in the ban, and mansoor said he was in contact with 75 americans trapped overseas this week. meantime, many of the folks at the meeting marched to the protest at civic center plaza, and this man hoped his wife would get a visa to travel to the u.s. next week, and after talking to his immigration attorney, he's not so sure. >> i called her and she said, i'm sorry, honey, everything is stopped until you hear news.

i don't know when. >> reporter: this yemeni national is speaking through an interpreter. >> the trump strategy right now, holding people in airports and he is worried about being one of those guys. >> none of us have ever committed crime. we are all law-abiding citizens. we pay our tax. we work hard. >> reporter: eric thomas, abc 7 news. a family that visited iran for an engagement party will be reunited after several members were delayed because of the travel ban. one relative arrived in the united states yesterday, and another last weekend, and the family doesn't know why he was held in custody despite being a green card holder. >> they give the visa and did all the securities they have to take, so why should that be when he gets here. >> the family is confused and

worried but are thankful for the support here in the bay area. >> you can get breaking news updates as they happen with our abc 7 app. and president trump talked about another hot-button issue when he sat down for the pre-super bowl super view, and his remarks to bill o'reilly are causing controversy this morning. >> i say it's better to get along better with russia than not, and if russia helps us with isis, a major fight, that's a good thing. will i get along with him? i have no idea. >> he's a killer, though. putin is a killer. >> there's a lot of killers. we have a lot of killers. you think our country is so innocent? >> the critics say president trump is putting the united states on par with putin who is accused of ordering the killing

of dissidents. and then this man posted on his instagram page he hopes to return in a few months to give the speech he was going to give. peaceful protests turned violent and his speech was canceled. this morning a pair of alameda county k-9s and their deputies are in houston helping to keep everybody safe at super bowl li. the department tweeted out this picture last night of the two deputies in front of the convention center thanking them for their service. i was saying it is raining in houston and we are about to get more here in san francisco. >> yeah, and with the cover of the stadium there -- >> yeah, it's got a roof. >> we care about the rain, of course, and it will be on the way late tonight, and the golden

an east bay family asking for your help this morning to find a missing man missing since yesterday afternoon around 2:00 to 3:00 on vicksburg avenue in oakland. they say the 73-year-old has dimension and is heri hearing impaired, and he does not speak english. if you see him, you are urged to contact oakland police. a crowd chanted shame as a lawmaker was escorted outside of a town hall meeting in sacramento yesterday. the representative mcclintock

lifestyle and benefits bay area charities. runners take off at 8:00 this morning. good morning. the runners will be running under cloudy skies. there's patchy fog on live doppler 7 right now, and no problems in terms of rainfall throughout the day today, but the rain will increase tonight due to a system offshore that will allow for good downpours from time to time. this is the first system in a series of systems, and we have a winter storm warning of the slope, and a winter storm warning for the greater lake tahoe area at 10:00 tonight. both of these go through tuesday evening, and one to two additional feet so snow levels getting lower and two to four feet over the highest peaks. wind will be an issue once again. kirkwood, five feet. can you handle that?

more of the heavy snow will be headed your way for incline tahoe city in the next several days. in the 40s, 48 for you in the eastbound valleys. 44 in dublin. and hayward, 52. novato with 45. looking for a cloudy day, and foggy spots as well, and then rain by about 4:00 in the north bay, and then that will continue to push through the bay area allowing for a rainy night and then a rainy pattern. so far we have had at least three days, four days of february, and rainfall amounts are looking pretty good. from a half inch in livermore to over three quarters in san francisco, and you can see the north bay and ben lowman looking at the highest amounts. we could see an additional half of foot of rain by the end of the week. the storm impact scale will be a

one. we'll time it out for you. you can see it's quiet to start the morning. the afternoon, a few breaks in the overcast. by 5:00, it's wet from the coast here, the marin county coast into sonoma. 7:00, everybody is wet, heavy downpours, and then by the evening hours it's still raining and maybe a little break, and then the next system already arriving and bringing showers in advance of some steadier rain arriving late monday into tuesday. timing these out, you will just have to know each and every day right through the week we are looking at wet weather. the first system, quarter of an inch to half an inch in the east bay, and then the shadow affect around san jose, but you will pick up throughout the next several days. highs today, upper 50s to low 60s. a mild afternoon, and remember the winter storm warnings

voids the warranty. abc 7 news was in san francisco's mclaren park yesterday for the street skate project ribbon cutting. they transformed two lanes of a old roadway into a safer place for people. it will be a huge benefit to the community. people are now going to be able to walk on this street and ride their bike on this street and not have to worry as much about cars speeding by at 50 or 60 miles per hour right in the middle of a park. >> the project added raised crosswalks and new lighting and landscaping. and then a surveillance video shows a laptop exploding on a family's couch. what may have caused it and what exports warn not to do so it doesn't happen to you.

4-year-old laptop plugged in on the couch, and it happened twice in the house and two more times after it was unplugged and taken outside. >> just in shock. we did not know what was happening or what to do. >> the family says the fire appears to have come from the laptop's lithium ion battery, and dell recalled 4 million of those batteries back in 2006 because of the risk of fire and is promising to investigate this case. experts say never charge your laptop on a couch or bed and only on a hard surface, and they also say don't leave it plugged in overnight while you sleep or when you leave for work. police in southern california are investigating what caused a car to crash into a cheesecake factory restaurant yesterday. the same place where a homemade explosive device was tossed on thursday night. the crash happened yesterday afternoon, and police are looking into whether alcohol or drugs were involved. nobody inside the restaurant was

rain. we have a moist flow from the pacific that will allow for a conveyor belt to be aimed at the west coast, and just where are we going to see the heavy rain stall out, midweek. not picking up on rain, but the cloud cover shows what's ahead. it's the next system queuing up offshore. first in the north bay spreading south, and we'll time it out, but already the national weather service issued a winter storm warning, and lake tahoe through tuesday. that starts tonight and goes through 10:00 on tuesday in the mountains around lake tahoe. one to two feet there, and looking at two to four feet higher elevations. kirkwood has a base of 7,800 feet, and goes up to 9,800, and that's where you see the higher number around kirkwood. unbelievable numbers again. emeriville, good morning, and it's 52 degrees in the city. and slightly lower dew points

this morning, so you might notice the change. and look at all the cloud cover here. ar kwrauz livermore, 45, and at the beach you will get rain later on in santa cruz, and all the way down the central coast. we are looking at potentially getting out of the drought for everybody. we have been out of it here in the bay area, but how about central and southern california, looking better for them as well. foggy morning in spots. cloudy. rain arrives late tonight. a rainy pattern through much of the workweek, but we will look through a series of storm systems to start out slow, so it's a one on our storm impact scale. we are dry until about 5:00. by 7:00, it pushes all across the bay. so you are wet in san jose, and that rain shadow affect going into what will be lesser amounts there. also our east bay valleys, this

is our first system. monday morning, you still have the shou wweshowers, and then h 11:00, and then the next system bringing more wide-spread steady rain mann rain. the first system, a quarter of an inch to a half inch, and the east bay, lesser amounts here in the south bay, and then the coastal hills and the north bay, up to an inch. that's system number one. let's pick it up here, monday night into tuesday. notice we have pockets of heavier rain. this is still monday night. and then into your tuesday morning, it's still raining out there. it looks like the first part of the week it's going to be very wet, and then we get a break by wednesday, and rainfall amounts right on through wednesday morning bring anywhere from two to four inches from san francisco into the santa cruz mountains. highs today, upper 50s to low 60s. the accuweather 7-day forecast,
