good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. let's check the weather with lies sa argen. >> here's a live look at live doppler 7 where we're clear of rain but we widen the perspective and, check it out, several storm systems are lined up. first one coming in tonight is a 1 on our storm impact scale. it will be breezy at times but a few hints of sun. upper 40s to lower 50s. another mild afternoon with cloudy skies. 50 degrees on the peninsula and south bay and the evening, that's a different story. we will time-out on sunday,

monday and tuesday and wednesday's rain coming up. >> lisa, thank you. developing news this morning. the ninth circuit court of appeals has denied a response by the justice department's ban of muslim country. the ban will remain on hold until at least tomorrow when legal responses are expected from the federal judge who blocked mr. trump's executive order and from the justice department which wants it restored. the justice department says the injunction immediately harms the public by thwarting enforcement of an executive order issued by the president, based on his national security judgment. lisa amin has more.

>> reporter: the restraining order issued by a washington state fred d state judge and i think it's unlikely that they would reverse this order. it's unlikely that they would vacate the store. >> reporter: this professor says the emergency motion argued president trump has the power to regulate immigration and protect our borders. little insists that the current executive order is way too broad. >> we want to keep our bad guys and terrorists but you're keeping out more than that. you're keeping out people that have been vetted, et cetera. >> reporter: this 12-year-old is an example. she was born in yemen to a mother who recently became a u.s. citizen. that means yemen did not qualify as a u.s. citizen and has been living in yemen without her parents. she has her visa and is due to arrive at sfo on sunday. still, her attorneys are worried. >> if there were an emergency

stay issued that stopped this temporary restraining order from being applied, then we would go back to having the executive order enforced and she could potentially be stranded again. >> reporter: the judges could make a decision at any time, but experts believe it likely will be early next week. in san francisco, lisa am amin gulezian, abc7 news. in florida, an estimated 3,000 protesters chanted against the now blocked executive order near the president's private mar-a-lago estate. president trump hosted a fund-raiser there last night for the international red cross. the protesters set up a flag that they say represents the death of democracy. president trump tweeted, "the judge opens up our country to potential terrorists and others that do not have our best interests at heart. bad people are very happy."

for a second weekend, protesters turned out in san francisco to protest president trump's executive order. abc7 news reporter sergio cantana has the story. >> reporter: this event brings together a cross-section of people who share similar concerns. >> i am here to protest what trump is doing. >> we're the voice. we have to say something for anything to change. >> reporter: the feeling at this demonstration was notably different than the protest crowds we saw last weekend. on sunday, people flooded san francisco international airport and many aimed to shut down security lines to get their voices heard. this was not a rally aimed at shutting anything down or parading through the streets. it was one of dozens across the

country that were organized as a demonstration of momentum to keep pressure on the administration. >> this is the second weekend of protests against president donald trump's executive order and speakers are encouraging people to do more than turn out at rallyings. >> organizing means talking to members of congress and trying to get them at all avenues, writing to them, showing up for the town hall meetings. >> reporter: it was a multicultural, multinational group. these two people are originally from iran and came here to protest against president trump. >> the way he's acting leading the country is going to which reminds me of back home. >> reporter: this event was peaceful. there were no counter protesters. members of the bay area's yemeni community joined that protest after first holding a mee meeting in san francisco. their message, don't keep us

out. eric thomas has the details. >> reporter: dozens of yemeni immigrants packed the holiday inn to get the latest updates of the trump administration's travel ban and to discuss why they believe it's misguided. >> we are american citizens and protected this country. we will continue to protect this country. >> reporter: yemen is one of the seven countries included in the ban. monsour said he had been in contact with 75 americans trapped overseas this week. meantime, many of the folks at that meeting marched to the to tests at civic center plaza. this man's wife hoped to travel to the u.s. next week but after talking to his immigration order, he's not so sure. >> i talked to my attorney. i don't know when. >> reporter: despite the judge's order blocking the ban, this yemeni national is afraid to

travel overseas. he's speaking through an interpreter. >> he's a green card holder so with the trump tragedy right now, holding people at airports, he's worried about being one of those guys. >> none of us have ever committed a crime. we are all law-abiding citizens. we pay our tax. we work hard. >> reporter: eric thomas, abc7 news. a family who visited iran for an engagement party will now be reunited after several members were delayed coming back to the bay area because of the travel ban. one relative arrived yesterday. the family doesn't know why he was held in custody despite being a green card holder. >> all of the security status steps we took. >> the family's confused, they're worried but thankful for the support here in the bay area. stay on top of all of the developments with the abc7 news

escorted out of a town hall after he took questions from the crowd asking about climate change, the president's immigration order and the affordable care act. his answers sometimes led to loud boos. security officials capped attendance at 200. outside, a smaller crowd. some upset that they could not get in. >> we were trying to educate ourselves and figure out how to get our message out and let people know we're worried. it's amazing how many people showed up. >> mcclintock says there was an anarchist element to the meeting. no one was arrested. some bay area public school teachers are urging senators to vote against president trump's choice for education secretary. yesterday, abc7 news was at the fairmont hotel in san jose where the message was loud and clear at a california's teacher

conference. betsy devos will have her confirmation hearing tomorrow. critics say the charter school advocate is an out-of-touch billionaire. >> never having been to a public school, worked in a public school, didn't send her kids to a public school, she's used her wealth to undermine public schools. >> devos has support from the national alliance for public charter schools and from former florida governor jeb bush they believe she can help reform the education system. it's a rite of passage for many young boys. the district pinewood derby was held yesterday in santa clara. they build custom cars from a block of wood. this is the tenth year the race was held at the muslim community association. the scouts believe in respecting people of all faiths.

>> i was shocked, because i know he hadn't abused it. >> reporter: john protected it with a screen cover and hard case. he said he never dropped or cracked it. it looked pristine when he showed it to us in walnut creek. >> when they say, no, you did this, it's like a slap in the face. >> reporter: samsung said that its company found damage and it was determined to be caused by the customer and mailed it back without a good explanation. samsung repaired it for free, after all. samsung told us, "we know customer satisfaction is core to our business success. we are sorry to hear that he was not fully satisfied with his samsung experience." john is still sure he was not at fault but he's glad the phone works. >> awesome. michael, excellent job. >> reporter: samsung has a new policy as of last september. it suspended the mail service for out-of-warranty phones.

welcome back, everyone. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. we're looking at upper 40s to low 50s with a little bit of fog out there. if we look outside at the golden gate bridge, you can see the winds kicking up ahead of the storm system. upper 50s to 60s and the rain arrives at 5:00 in the north bay. it will feature scattered showers with gusty winds. it will take us through your monday morning commute which also features showers.

coming to when a judge can halt a homeland security travel ban and anyone, even with bad intentions, can come into the u.s.?" and he says the opinion of this so-called judge which takes law enforcement away from our country is ridiculous and will be overturned. he reiterated that at his florida estate. outside the estate, protesters chanted against and in favor of the president. california senator dianne feinstein is responding to the federal appeals' court refusal and appeared on fox news and senator feinstein says, "the executive order has caused tension between the three branches of government." >> this is done within the scope of executive power and the challenge to executive power i think can be made, is appropriate to be made when you

think it's succeeded and people in terms of particularly the muslim ban aspect of this believes that the president's executive power has been exceeded. >> senator feinstein says she has no doubt this will go all the way to the supreme court to decide whether president trump has exceeded his authority. surprising video shows a laptop computer exploding into flames. security cameras at a home in thousand oaks in southern california show flames shooting out of a 4-year-old dell laptop plugged in and placed on a couch. it happened twice inside the home and then twice after it was unplugged and brought outside. >> i was just like in shock. i didn't know what was happening. i didn't really know what to do. >> the family says the fire appears to have come from the laptop's lithium ion battery. it was recalled in 2006 because

become entrenched over the bay area monday night through tuesday. we've increased the storm impact scale. lake tahoe, one to two feet through tuesday. two to four feet at the highest peaks and that would include kirkwood and donner and tahoe city. driving will become impossible here. you can see the fog on top of mt. tam. from our sutro tower camera, a cloudy afternoon. looks like the rain is still slated to come in this evening. the timing is still in tact for a rainy evening. 52 fairfield. south winds in advance of our system and quite gusty. cloudy skies.

the rain arrives tonight and this rainy pattern that sets up later on on monday, tomorrow night into tuesday, that will bring the most rain we see all week. upwards of two inches with that system. so as we look at the day today, we're dry and for the most part a shower and then by 5:00, the rain is knocking on the door of the north bay. by 7:00, it continues right on through the evening hours. a few breaks. we'll still have showers into monday. that's a 1 on the storm impact scale. as we go through monday night, this is when the rain begins to pick up again. it's 4:00, 5:00, evening commute is a mess monday night. the amount of system ams to two-tenths around san jose. north bay, santa cruz mountains that could pick up an inch and then we added a up what is going to happen monday night into tuesday. that's when we're looking at totals of 2.5 inches to about 4
