steadier and heavier during the evening hours. alexis? i think maybe a lot of folks stayed up past their bedtime last night. we have a light start on the roads. the only place that's red is westbound 205 to 580 is down to 17 miles closer to altamont pass. not much current rain. a sprinkle or two. the golden gate bridge, slow down and drive for conditions today. we'll see how the bay bridge commute looks in less than ten. >> thank you. the spotlight on president trump's immigration order shifted to the bay area. the 9th circuit court of appeals in san francisco. >> a three-judge panel decided to -- expected to decide on travel ban. washington and minnesota challenge the ban and turned the briefs to the court. if the ban on travelers from seven majority muslim countries is restored, it would unleash chaos, they said. hawaii opposed the immigration

order, citing travel restrictions could damage the economy. the justice department must file its response by 3:00 our time today. from google to facebook, tech companies are taking a stand against the immigration order. >> almost 100 companies filed a brief with the court, saying it is discriminatory. matt keller is live for us at apple headquarters in >> 97 companies, including apple, say president trump's executive order is bad for business. now, they filed these briefs late last night. here are the reasons why that they gave to the 9th circuit court of appeals in san francisco. the travel ban on refugees and travelers from the seven countries would make it more difficult and expensive for companies to recruit, hire and retain some of the world's best employees. this weekend, the 9th circuit court of appeals denied the trump administration request to set aside a judge's ruling putting a hold on the ban. companies are not a party in the lawsuit. this friend of the court filing

her face, the 12-year-old walked out of customs and into selma's arms. iman's story began 12 years ago when her mother, a u.s. citizen, was traveling and gave birth to her in yemen. it wasn't until this past friday, when a federal judge in seattle signed an order to temporarily stop president trump's travel ban, that iman, accompanied by her father, was able to complete her journey home to california. >> waited for a long time. seven years already. after seven years, finally to be home. >> reporter: seven year it is the length of time it took iman's parents to get their daughter a vehicle, to travel to the u.s., though both parents are u.s. citizens. the visa came the day before trump signed his executive order, suspendi ining immigrati from seven predominantly mu lly people. >> some people are bad.

vince wilfork, a tackle for the texans, said, that should shut up all the doubters about who the greatest qb of all time is. congrats to patriot nation. hashtag tommieboy. other pro athletes congratulating brady, including basketball stars kobe bryant and lebron james. they're speaking out. everyone talking about the big game last night. reggie, back to you. >> thank you, jessica. music producer golden donna released a new album with all the proceeds benefitting fire relief funds after the ghost ship fire in oakland. it is a stage name for joel shanahan. he was scheduled to headline the 100% silk label concert the night of the fire in december. according to the online magazine "pitch fork," golden donna worked on the album as therapy. the ghost ship fire killed 36 people. police are investigating robberies that took place within a three-hour period. they all happened saturday at the locations you see on the map. officials say the first robbery

an arrest has been made in the case of the murder jogger in new york. >> a jogger was strangled to death after going for a run in her neighborhood. >> reporter: in this morning's gma first look, a long-awaited break in the case of murdered new york city lewis arrested and arraigned on second degree murder. >> the demon must get his justice. >> oh, yeah. >> we will see to it. >> reporter: police saying lewis admitted he attacked the 30-year-old fitness enthusiast, punching her on the face and head before he allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled the victim around the neck. >> it appears to be a chance encounter. >> reporter: she disappeared after 5:00 p.m. last august. a camera capturing her jogging in the queens park moments before the brutal attack. we'll have more on the arrest at

7:00 a.m. with your gma first look, abc news, new york. 5:15 now. violence broke out during an after party following a college dance competition. police posted photos on facebook. officers received reports of gunshots by the event center around 1:00 a.m. sunday. police contained the crowd and didn't find anyone hurt. the event center was hosting an afterparty for a dance competition in davis for students from a number of universities. transit district received $3.5 million to install a traffic signal priority system. it'll extend green lights for busses or shorten the time they wait between the daly city bart and palo alto stations. it could be operational by 2020. transit officials believe this will result in a 10% increase in on time performance. president trump said americans may have to wait until next year for his health care

plan. he tells fox news o'reilly it could take until 2018 to replace obamacare. he said some of the elements could be in place this year though. it is a slower time than the president and other republicans promised. he also said americans can expect tax cuts this year. bmw recalling 230,000 vehicles in the u.s. because of takata air bags. the recall affects some bmw3 series cars produced between 2000 and 2002, along with the 5-series between 2001 and 2003. it is impacting suvs between 2001 and 2003. auto makers had to recall millions of cars because of these potentially defective takata air bags that can explode and spray shrapnel. they've been linked to 11 deaths in the u.s. 5:17 now. among the most talked about super bowl ad, san francisco

number four, traffic looking good so far this morning. we have a mass transit issue. ten-minute bart delay at sfo, millbrae, daly city and east bay directions. number five from the live desk, a community college in flint, michigan, is shut down because of an active shooter threat right now. ca classes are cancelled at 100 campuses in michigan. you'll have three extra days to pay your taxes. usually, of course, they're due april 15th. the new deadline is april 18th. it is because of a federal holiday. number seven, the pats big win yesterday could mean a down year for the stock market. according to the super bowl indicator, which is unscientific but fun predictor, stocks will fall if an afc team the indicator has been right 80% of the time.

half-moon day, san mateo in the next five minutes. the richmond side of the richmond-san rafael bridge. spray is shooting up. it'll be slick in most areas for the morning commute. it'll dry throughout the latter parts. more hit and miss. the scattered showers are possible throughout the evening. that's when the brunt of the next storm rolls in. more on that next. let's get a check on the commute. the roads are looking pretty good. we're having issues with mass transit. taking a look at muni, we're hearing about wires down. we were able to confirm this. the muni wires are down at montgomery and bush. the intersection is closed now. fire department is on the scene, saying muni has to repair that. of course, the intersection is in the financial district. i also have an update on the bart delay. it is improving a little bit. next traffic update at 5:40. >> thank you. the battle over president trump's travel and immigration ban is unfolding here in san francisco. >> the 9th circuit court of

appeals set to consider the nationwide hold on the president's moratorium. abc 7's amy hollyfield is live outside of the court this morning. amy? >> hi, reggie. arguments from both sides are due here at this courthouse by 3:00 this afternoon. a three-judge panel will listen and review the case here at this courthouse at 7th and mission here in san francisco. as of right now, the ban has been lifted. there were tearful reunions with families at airports over the weekend. president trump says his justice department is appealing the decision to lift the ban, and the president said over the weekend, he is confident he will win. he says for the safety of the country, we will win. california senator diane feinstein is glad to see the judicial branch is watching over the president. >> the federal court has a right to make a judgment, whether a law or an order is lawful and constitutional. that process has begun.

as a matter of fact, i believe there's some 60 filings on various things the president has done thus far. >> the president sent out tweets over the weekend, expressing his displeasure with the court overturning his executive order, calling jam ining the judge in so-called judge and if anything bad happens, blame him. the justice department says the courts are ill equipped to second guess the president about future risks. experts think we will get a decision from this court here in san francisco within the week. many think this court will end up -- this case will end up at the supreme court. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. nearly 100 tech companies including apple, facebook and twitter, are teaming up to voice their opposition to president trump's immigration order. 97 companies filed a friend of the court brief late yesterday. it argues the order is discriminatory and illegal.

they said reinstating the travel ban would be harmful to their businesses, making it harder to hire great employees. it is leading to other countries retaliating and it can hinder business abroad. president trump is revealing more about his claims of voter fraud in the election. >> you have illegals, dead people, you have this. it is really a bad situation. really bad. >> the president told bill o'reilly he will put vice president mike pence in charge of the voter fraud investigation. the fremont police department is investigating its first officer-involved shooting of the year. it happened last night. police were called to look into a disturbance of some kind. the shooting took place after officers found one of the suspects involved in a dispute. that suspect was killed. >> it is up to us to do our best to de-escalate the situation. unfortunately, doesn't always turn out that way.

>> no officers were shot. one was injured. we don't know how at this time. all we know is he was rushed to a nearby hospital with what authorities say are non-life threatening injuries. police haven't said if the suspects are armed. they're not active live looking for anyone else. suspects are in custody following a search that caused bart to shut down service at the montgomery street station. police closed the station for an hour yesterday afternoon after the men were seen running in. police arrested the suspects and the station is back open and no one was hurt. san jose state university is warning students to be careful following an armed robbery two blocks from campus. two people held up a group of students on south 7th and east reed street friday night. one victim was hurt but is going to be okay. the robbers took off in a car, possibly a gray dodge charger. a homeless person is in custody accused of setting this car on fire in oakland. chp posted this photo showing a burning near fruitvale and east

7th yesterday morning. a witness helped officers track down the suspect. officers are trying to figure out a motive. happening today, legislation is going to be introduced this morning in san francisco to amend california laws that criminalize hiv. the current laws were enacted in the '80s during the height of the aids epidemic. the proposal introduced today protects people who are hiv positive from being prosecuted for intentionally transmitted the virus, even if their partner tests negative. the legislation also protects hiv positive sex workers from being convicted of solicitation even if they don't engage in intercourse. legislators will discuss the bill this morning at 10:00. the victory parade for the new england patriots set for tomorrow morning in boston. the game is being called the greatest comeback ever for a super bowl thanks to star quarterback and san mateo native tom brady. exciting game, as you know. i'm sure a lot of you were

staying up late watching it. brady brought the patriots back from a 25-point deficit. it forced the first overtime game in super bowl history. he became the first qb ever to win five super bowl titles. >> down 25 points. i mean, it's hard to majimagine winning. it is why you play till the end. 60-minute game. halftime, i'd say we weren't down at all. i mean, we were disappointed in the way we played and knew we could go out and do better in the second half. >> final score, 34-28. the people of atlanta all crying a collective tear this morning. brady was named super bowl mvp for the fourth time. a league record. he dedicate td game to his mother, who has been battling an undisclosed illness. >> brady's family lives in san mateo and we were there at a block party with the family's neighb neighbors. they never doubted their hometown boy could get the job

points hundreds of reports to exactly 126 this morning. it means both people were probably asleep getting ready for their work and school days and could also explain the flurry of twitter activity we've been seeing ramp up this morning. back to you. >> thank you, jessica. some heads up for you if you're thinking of heading to the sierra today. want to show you traffic conditions on interstate 80 at castle peak last yesterday. 25 miles from lake tahoe. look at all the snow coming down and blanketing the ground, too. you need chains. the sierra could see one to two feet of snow at higher elevations. bart is pruning these trees along the tracks to keep trains moving as the bay area is hit with more wind and rain. abc 7 news was along the tracks near the san francisco/daly city border. bart has to close one track for several hours and it delayed passengers. bart hopes pruning the trees

several chances of rain with the heaviest being tonight through tomorrow morning. another chance of rain wednesday, thursday and into friday. looks like we'll salvage the weekend. more on that coming up next. let's see what alexis has for your morning commute. a bit going on with the mass transit this morning. i'll take you back to the muni issue. wires down at the intersection of montgomery and bush. the intersection is closed t. fire department is on the screen and saying muni needs to come out to fix this problem. they are acknowledging this now. we got information from muni. they're saying the 30 and 45 line has no power from columbus and green to market. they'll run busses to supplement service this morning instead of the electric busses. keeping an eye on this. we're sending a crew out to check this on the scene, as well. on top of that, we have a bart delay. ten minutes still. downgraded it for san francisco stations in the east bay directions. the counter commute for this time of day. it is due to a track problem near glen park.

amy hollyfield, live at montgomery and bush. what is happening there, amy? >> a, reggie. you can see behind me, they're making repairs here on bush street. this intersection is creating a slowdown as people navigate around it. they've closed montgomery. montgomery is closed for fear these wires could come down again while they're working on it. muni has gotten the wires back up. they still have to test them. what that means right now for you is that the bus lines, the 30 and the 45 lines from cl columbus and green to market and kearney are using hybrid diesel busses. no electric busses on those lines as of right now. i asked the spokesman, what happened? he said, well, it appears that a truck carrying a dumpster hit the wires. they'll have to investigate it once the repairs are made. that could take a while. now, the focus is on getting this repaired so they can open all of this back up. what you should expect is for thin
